Mark Zuckerberg Throws US Officials Under The Bus | Facebook Interfering On Behalf of Mayorkas

I don't believe anyone has lied under oath before Congress as many times as Alejandro mayoras Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg claims he was pressured by the White House to censor content related to co during the pandemic isn't the rule that if you if you lie under oath at Congress you go to jail [Music] on cuz there there there was another story I I did want to get to in a little bit uh but one of the things I wanted to ask Ron about you know we had this whole thing uh today Mark Zuckerberg of of of meta Facebook formerly still Facebook now the company's called meta because meta was a cool word that year and they had to change and an incredible Business Development I mean they really you know oh yeah uh it's it's absolutely amazing so we had a bit of a news break today did we not let me let me pull up I found I think the most perfect video cut uh that that set this up for those of you that don't know what we're talking about and this I want everybody to imagine for a second this this certainly extends out Beyond just Facebook and meta if you remember this story so let's let's play this I don't know if You' seen this particular cut but I thought this was absolutely brilliant Senator Josh Holly two years ago repres from Missouri uh asking this we have example after example of this Administration coordinated apparently according to a federal court by your agency pressuring coercing social media companies to engage in censorship is that constitutional that is unequivocally false is what the emails show it is unequally false now I want you to just for everybody's own edification here Alejandro mayores he's still there he's the head of Homeland Security DHS okay um this is who was on on on on the witness stand as it were at this Senate hearing Ron no one has in my in my many many years of observing American politics I don't believe anyone has lied under oath before Congress as many times as Alejandro mayoras Ron I'm not I'm not super familiar you I'm not a lawyer right if I can you know but but isn't the rule that if you if you lie under oath at Congress you go to jail isn't that the rule that is the rule for not for Republicans yes oh okay I wasn't my fault just calling the balls and Strikes all right let's get back to it you are not pressuring the big tech company false is what the emails show it is unequivocally false Senator you are not pressuring the big tech companies to take down accounts you are not meeting with them to ask them to censor on your behalf that is correct we are not here's my point talking about Facebook accounts folks right talking about during the pandemic and the lockdown and all this kind of stuff um talking about how Facebook or or Senator Holly saying that uh were you asking him was he pressuring Facebook and other other companies to censor post to block accounts and all this kind of stuff and may may orus is saying unequivocally no Mr secretary it has been established for years in this country as you very well know because you're a lawyer that the federal government may not use private third parties to engage in activities that are unconstitutional that's exactly what you and this Administration are doing you are leveraging private companies to carry out censorship on your behalf it's dystopian but worse than that it's unconstitutional it's also false turn now to a story breaking overnight Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg claims he was pressured by the White House to censor content related to covid-19 during the pandemic Aaron kki joins us now with details Aon good morning good morning to you Whit for years critics have taken aim at Facebook for silencing views that challenge the general consensus in the medical community especially about the origin of covid-19 now Facebook's founders surprisingly says they're right he pressure from the Biden Administration to censor content the Facebook founder issuing a letter to the house Judiciary Committee that said senior Administration officials pushed the social media platform to censor posts about covid-19 and expressed a lot of frustration when the company resisted Zuckerberg saying I believe the government pressure was wrong and I regret that we were not more outspoken about it adding I feel strongly that we should not compromise our content standards due to pressure from any Administration in either direction and we're ready to push back if something like this happens again house Judiciary Committee chairman Jim Jordan celebrating the letter calling it a big win for free speech oops tell us something we knew without you know a few years too late right the Supreme Court punted on this yeah in the M Missouri versus Biden Cas as it was known before the last iteration they they found a a a rather far-fetched standing argument as a way to to avoid ruling on it it was a real disappointment that was the case I thought that was really going to make a difference and we had a companion case that was also uh in neutral at the time waiting to see how that would go the one for DC Drano that's oh Handley versus uh California they blew it they they absolutely dropped the ball and it's and it's a tragedy because this is a huge problem and but you know mayorcas is is a truly contemptible character yeah uh and there's you know there there's no accountability there's I mean I don't really know why I I've been asked more than once why did Zuckerberg come out with this what you know what's the benefit is it some kind of you know is it some kind of scop is it really to make us think the opposite is it is it to put to put our face in I think the coast is clear because that case is over we're coming up to Labor Day the political campaigns really begin now there's going to be a lot of controversy over what is being censored and there is censorship um as long as it's not government censorship it's it's completely legal you you can then have debates about how much should YouTube censor and how much should X censor you can have that debate but there's no debate that the government can't and shouldn't do it and that the government has done it and is continuing to do it that's a real problem it's a real problem it is and this is the lawsuit I think you're referring to here or to try to put before The Supreme Court because Louisiana of course was involved as well um you know with the governor Jeff Landry um and and my question is uh could they could they ask the SU Supreme Court now to revisit is that possible I don't know no no what because the Supreme Court decision didn't go the merits there was really no evidentiary problem with the case I mean they won in the in Texas and they won in the fifth circuit Supreme Court said oh no but they shouldn't have even the case shouldn't have even been considered because the plaintiffs weren't really injured or didn't appropriately demonstrate injury wait so and just for my clarity because I'm a dum dum here when you say the plaintiff who exactly are you speaking of in that case in the case that was dismissed it was there so there were a number of plaintiffs including State Attorneys General okay but what about what about I don't know the American people being injured by this by by uh by this I mean well that's sort of the that is sort of the approach that the Attorneys General were taking which is that on behalf of the state in other words on behalf of the people of the state Missouri the state of Louisiana Etc our citizens have been injured and here's how how by by being by being uh censored by the federal government outsourced to Facebook outsourced to Twitter outsourced to YouTube that's really a pretty damn strong claim um can I tell you we did our best I wasn't involved in that case but we we did our best in the companion case yeah um and and here it is I wanted to find this post and this is why I brought up the article a second ago um and why I asked you that question um is because earlier today my boy Jeff Landry here in Louisiana we love this guy been a fan of his for a long time uh well before he was governor actually before he even got elected as attorney general prior to being Governor he posted this on X today in the June Supreme Court uh ruled against our case regarding the White House's censorship well I'm wondering what they're saying now [Laughter] so it's done Ron if I understand so there's no way this can go back yeah it's not going back yeah wow could there be a separate I mean I guess there's yes there could be a brand new lawsuit if you prove if you can prove facts of censorship by the government that would not have been covered by the original claims and it's going to get litigated the you know one of the big knocks on the Supreme Court over the last five to 10 years has been and and among those knocking it for this reason have been justices such as Justice Alo that it will only take a case when it is just just perfectly framed and perfectly postured and it that's not really how litigation works it's not really how problems come up and the timing of the Supreme Court's um dismissal of that case right ahead of the election was shameful absolutely shameful yeah I mean I I I I tend to agree with you I think this this this letter comes out now because what does it matter right what what can we still do um I I kind of part of me wonders what and maybe there was something I missed I mean I genuinely asking this I wonder what compelled Zuckerberg all of a sudden to to to make this statement I mean the only thing that just popped into my head actually a couple minutes ago was you know there is a lot of um action going on in this space you have the whole Telegraph telegram thing yeah I was gonna ask about that too Telegraph going back to my childhood yeah the whole the whole telegram thing um and people are you know battle lines are being drawn and even I mean remember WhatsApp unlike Telegram in WhatsApp which is owned by Facebook all chats are we're told end to end encrypted and not withstanding his waffling in the past he may very well be setting up a posture that if foreign governments try to do to us what they're trying to do to to telegram mhm we're going to have to be a little bit more like Elon and a little bit less like YouTube um at least right now yeah and there doesn't seem to be any real downside to it so I mean that's just my my wild speculation and I actually am going to have to um bow out and let you guys get to your gamer talk make sure you're subscribed to Valiant Renegade and join us every Sunday at 6:00 p.m. Eastern for the live show
