LUKE THOMAS *LIVE CHAT*: Conor McGregor latest | Makhachev v Tsarukyan | UFC P4P

Starting Soon. e e e e let's bang let's bang tuy how are you hello everybody it is Intro. the 6th of June 2024 my name is Luke Thomas this is episode 207 of my live chat thank you so much for joining me I greatly appreciate it here on this wonderful Thursday thumbs up if you're watching on YouTube oops I got my jacket here let's take that [ __ ] off here all right on the docket today dude what a crazy week this has been how about what's going on with Connor I don't think I have a theory well not a theory I have a con concern I would like to pause it to you here as we discuss it so that's up for grabs the pound-for-pound debate just won't stop I think for good reason actually it won't stop um so we'll get to that should you drink water that appears that appears to be a point of contention as well whatever you want to get to we can get to your chat as much as it is mine so thank you so so much for joining me I greatly appreciate it so the format is as follows I go for a free I put up a thread yesterday I look at the questions there I'll do an hour of those questions and then if you want to get in anything specifically you can donate at the end of the live chat um and help us out now um certainly under no obligation to pay it's just if you want to support you can you can also become a member and there are sort of two privileges of that one um free content that goes only to members doesn't go anywhere else that's one two is you can contribute to the live chat today for free now aello I should warn you is sick he is battling a number of different ailments and is not here today he's actually been in and out of the he's okay but he's been in and out of the ER a couple times on vacation so I don't know if I'm going to I'm trying to get people someone to help me identify anybody's questions who are members who are just you know contributing for free on the on the paid portion of the of the chat um if I can't get it then what I'll do is I'll just do something free for the members later either this week or early next week or some point in Vegas I will make it up to you there um ordinarily it's a fellow that flag fls them if I can't get him I have no really way of doing it so I will find a way to make it up to you one way or the other but thank you so much for joining me greatly appreciate all that good stuff so let's get this going without further Ado let's get this party started shall we okay there we are let's turn this off just like that and let's get this party going okay how about about here like that all right very good all right first things up uh luk with rumors of DDP versus Izzy in the works could you give a breakdown of how you think that fight plays out yes good call also the UFC has been extra trigger happy with the copyright claims yes they have as of DDP vs. Izzy. late it seems good luck in dealing with that yeah they caught my they they took down or they claimed anyway my Islam breakdown video which I had fully expected would happen I knew that that was inevitable so I'm just trying a few different things to see what works and what doesn't um and you might be thinking oh well if you expected it then you know what's the long-term solution actually that's what I'm working on and I've been working on the last couple of weeks so not really ready to to divulge that quite yet but anybody who watched it I appreciate it um we'll probably put it up on for for for members but that we we I am working on a way where I can make sure everybody has access to all of the breakdown content that I do be It Boxing or MMA so stay tuned for that but okay you're asking about DDP and Izzy let's think about that for a second okay so how might that go um couple of big questions one to what extent will Izzy's fainting game at all be convincing to DDP so one thing that DDP does is a lot of times he'll back up straight I could imagine him getting forced back and then hit with a kick combo at the end as he moves away that's something I could see but the question is like to what extent can I he slow slow down this guy's blitzes slow down his pressure slow down any of that kind of thing what can he do in terms of that um and then what can he do to then take advantage of somebody who is on those blitzes so I'm thinking about the way in which they're going to interact one let's start on the Izzy side as already mentioned getting him backing up straight with a kick at the end of the combo either as a leg kick or a head kick I think is something that Izzy could probably use if he's able to to either return counter pressure or just sort of make DDP Retreat that's one DDP doesn't do a lot of slipping and countering it's a lot of blocking and then going and if you can get a guy to block like this with shots up the middle if you have a reach Advantage then I would imagine I'm just gonna say this more generally DDP himself has very heavy leg kicks but is susceptible to the leg kick depending on what who the striker is and I think Izzy would be very qualified to do it to get him to cover up to even retreat in certain ways as I mentioned but he doesn't have to necessarily be in Retreat the point I'm trying to make is occupy his guard he doesn't have the kind of Defense where he can let it go past him and then counter not not not continuously not routinely like we saw with Islam against Dustin Poria he could slip inside and outside off of the Cross and the jab that's not that's not DDP DDP is block and then get pull out and get out of the way whenever you've got something like that you can always take advantage of it you can throw it up the middle and then you can hook shots you can throw it up the middle and then in MMA you can just drive shots um to the you can you can drive those leg kicks and I I really would imagine that's going to be a big part the guy is heavy on the front foot the guy is um always pressuring into you the guy is a bull just physically and so you would imagine slowing down his wheels would be a big big part of any kind of strategy against him a because is he likes to do that anyway and B because he is open for it under those aformentioned contexts again you have to set it all up you can't just throw it if you just throw it he's going to Barrel into you but if you can get him to cover and then go which I do think is possible like just based on what you've seen in the Whitaker fight that would be a big part of it so that's one the other one is look what he did to Whitaker Whitaker had different kinds of blitzes as he did the first fight he's able to lean back and then just kind of throw from way out here I would imagine that might play a big role as well like how he intercepts any kind of Blitz by letting him go past him and then kind of punching him along the way that could be something at the same time DDP is quite durable I would also Imagine like you just thinking about how they match up man the takedown is going to be probably real key and and you know listen DDP finds the takedown sometimes in weird kind of ways where pull guys on top of him accidentally even in that Whitaker fight remember he was going for like I forget what throw he was going for but it didn't work and then he fell backwards at an angle but then he got on top and then he went for that Dar you know what I mean so I would say this if I'm DDP I might be looking all the different ways in which you can set up that takedown you can do that with your own pressure you can do that with your own faints you can do that with your own double jabbing and on the way in and then getting him to plant his feet sometimes when he's square and to maneuver his own weight and then you can't really defend a takedown very effectively and let's just talk about it too a big physical Style on the feet big physical style in terms of his grappling as well he hit the Salo or the toy pass which is like a very very physical hard noosed you know in your in-your-face kind of passing style and then on top of it he's got good ground in pound uh DDP does and it's aggressive ground and pound like when he gets to the floor he's not like waiting for something to happen like he's trying to pass he's trying to really land significant damage along the way um I would imagine that's going to be that you know you would have to think that's going to be a huge part of what he does to really beat up Izzy slow him down make him counter but it's going to be a big test to see like what Izzy can do to intercept or slow the progression of the forward pressure of DDP and for DDP I would imagine a big part of it is going to be just taking this guy off of his feet and absolutely working him over on on the uh on the ground if that's at all possible I'm sure that DDP can land a big shot with that pressure he gets guys to move and evade I do think he's going to miss a lot the question is does he how much does he like he's going to swing a big shot and is he's gonna you know he's going he does a bit of the juking and he'll get out of the way but he only has to land like a couple of those to really have a pronounced effect on the round that's really the other part of DDP I'm not saying he's got like punishing one punch power but he's got round altering power for sure uh he dropped he dropped wha with I can't remember but um you know taking him off of his feet obviously the one with Strickland is a very different kind of fight because he's so defensively sound or at least difficult to hit anyway so I would think these are the two big fault lines if you're either Izzy or you're again that's not to say that DDP couldn't attack him on the feet I think he can especially if you can pressure him up against the fence then he can just go to work also DDP a very very again everything he does is physical a physical finisher like once he has you hurt it it's he's on the Move um and so I think getting I he pressured getting I he backed up against the fence controlling which way he can go and then timing it that's going to be big for him too that's going to be real big for him so those are the ways in which I would kind of assess it I would imagine leg kicks going to be really kicking in general but leg kicks are going to be really important for Izzy take down ground and pound sub attempt making Fast action on the ground pressuring backwards uh you can go from the take down to like you could I don't know if you want want to go to the clinch necessarily but some of these ways obviously I have to look at tape more you know readily to have a better answer but um those are the things that come to mind that's the one I think about how those two match up for sure uh okay imagine a year or so from now Islam Remains the 155 champ shavkat Biggest International Star. and Hamot both remain undefeated and become 170 and 185 Champs who is the biggest International Star gez probably still Islam Islam is the Protege of khabib he comes from a giant country obviously chch is part of Russia and I'm sure more broad leak would be popular there although he now has residen and has had residency outside of chesa for a long time previously Sweden now the UAE for hamzat and then shafkat has I think a really big backing out of Kazakhstan I think that's the wild card there where it could be something interesting obviously all three um you know Muslim athletes that's going to be a uniting factor and a and a boosting factor for their popularity in large swaths of the world as well but I think Islam is a you know it's just an underrated terms of star not not in the United States I don't know how well 302 did on on pay-per-view seemed sort of like it's okay Jesus Christ this [ __ ] thing hold on um seemed kind of you know fine for what it was it wasn't a huge show it wasn't some kind of disaster but um I still think Islam's got he's got a certain just the khabib and the the overall the nurm made of Halo I think has really boosted his fortunes and obviously he's doing stuff that's pretty spectacular along the way does s Yukan have the best chance to Dethrone makev and how would you view a potential makev rck manov matchup Arman vs. Islam. playing out I get asked about the makev and rock monov one and I obviously I think makev is going to be a a bit of a cleaner technician and it's going to be a more patient thoughtful fighter that rck monov is thoughtful but he's a little bit still a little bit Reckless certainly in the standing and so there is that but dude rock monov is a real like the thing is think Islam can fight at welterweight I don't think he's a natural welterweight rahmanov is a natural welterweight and there's a big difference between them I mean obviously you guys know so I feel like that would you know even if you wanted to say makev has certain kind of stylistic advantages or certain even certain skill advantages I don't think they're going to be significant enough over the course of time to undercut how big a physical Advantage Rock monov would have but getting back to suuki and certainly do you go back to that first fight suuki can scramble his ass off he can just seemingly go forever he can wrestle for significantly long periods of time and as we saw in this fight um you know the offensive takedowns I mean again what did he do five for 16 Islam makev did against Dustin porier five for 16 again the flip side is he got one in every single round but five for 16 the question is not that the question is what he would have to do in terms of take down defense and he's very very good remember he was hitting foot sweeps on S yukin last time so yuken is physical in your face quick again super athletic Dynamic Scrambler but it's he's going to be the one hunting the takedown can he really beat Islam on the feet again maybe but that probably wouldn't be his best course of action his best course of action is going to be finding a way to make this some kind of a grappling contest it's not like Islam unless he's really tired like you saw in like the fifth round or whatever against vul in the first fight which also was a big weight cut issue that that that is a wild card the the weight cut does appear to slowly be having more and more of a noticeable effect I think and I know he had the staff before but I still think the Wake cut is hard for him it was hard for khabib as well but stukin is going to have to find a way to score offense through grappling through grappling positions I don't think he's going to be able to be consistently rely on what he can do in the standup um against a guy like makev who I think can slip counter get out of the way the whole nine yards if you can pivot in pivot out we've seen it switch stance and shift through combination he just as much more much more well-rounded in that regard so Yukan has to find a way to score offense by either pinning makev or some kind of submission potentially as well but it has to be in that context and that's where if you're going to if if makev can just defend on that or counter you know with a foot sweep or whatever it's just it's it's a much it's a much it's a much that's a that's a more doable game plan for him I think the folks realize but sorry yukin certainly is tough yeah I just I mean this is the thing about Islam Islam is like he's got just enough usually it seems like for every different kind of style you can throw at him at 155 at least on paper he's got just enough for every single you know different kind of matchup there along the way pretty remarkable how good he is all right look the opinion on the most rare or unique submission we've seen in the UFC well there's Twisters there's um there's I mean what's what's some of the other ones the Peruvian necktie is another one example like tkz Twisters Ben Saunders om Plata I wouldn't say omop Plata is a unique submission rare Rare Submissions. it's okay the omop Plata is rare because it doesn't work on good people that's why I mean can you use the omop Plata can first of all can you submit people with it yes and can you use it for all other different kinds of purposes yes that is certainly true but like by itself self just like finishing someone with an OM Plata you don't really see it at the black belt level hardly at all it's very very very rare it does happen but it's rare or the Beats sulev stretch come to mind suev stretch is a big one named after Amar suloev which one stands out to you the most and why the Twister would probably be the most onop Plata certainly and the suo F stretch uh is cool definitely but you know a lot of guys have done it in not just zabit you know obviously who else has done it um St done it there's been a couple of guys that done it Sterling had almost an upside down arm triangle on tea mizugaki which that is not a rare submission but doing it from underneath I mean understand most guys need not just the ability to be on top but to create some kind of an angle even if they're keeping the knee on the hip to be able to finish that position so you have to be able to like force your weight into them and turn with the force of gravity so to lose that and then you just have to rely on squeeze do that you have to be very very very very strong to do something like that so that's pretty cool too but I would honestly say who had a ninja joke did um did CB do have one Tony dusza have one somebody had one I forget who it was but you've seen a couple of uh you've seen a couple of those those are pretty interesting too here we go we'll get to this Connor stuff I can't believe no one's asking about it so I'm just going to bring it up here in a minute Islam almost exclusively used a Straight Jacket System. body triangle to attack the back of parier and vul okay making a 2 by two hand fight nearly impossible to win why do we not see Dan her straight jacket system used at the higher levels of MMA great question we've talked about it before why would you want to not lock up a body triangle why would you want to keep it open two hooks in and the reason why you would need one of your limbs uh one of your legs to control one of their hands and so now it's a two versus a one battle versus instead of 2v2 because if you have to go two versus two it's really hard to submit someone if they have both your hands and they're they're they're good talented hand Fighters and you have both of yours even though you have a superior position it's very very difficult so you have to create numerical Supremacy you have to take away one of their limbs with your leg and now it becomes much easier to you know find out what you want to get which is the the straight jacket system and there's a whole way of you know uh there's look up the DVD it's it's or the instructional on BJJ fanatics but that's the basic concept is just creating when win winning scenarios via number so in the vul one I think he might have been sorry yeah in the vulk one I think he might have been tired and the guy was scrambly and you know I I I feel like that he was preserving how long he could fight in that one there might have been a little bit in this one too against parier however however we talked about this in I the the this video was kept up by the way what had to be I was using literally only photos what could they possibly take down but the preview I did of the parier makev fight and one of the things I noticed was parier is very good about when guys get a little bit out of position and he assists them getting a little bit out of position or through scrambles he'll reach behind and peel a hook with his hand in order to then turn out and come out on top or or you know disassemble the the grappling scenario that's in play he's very very good at it and you have to be careful you have to have one hand on the choking arm and then you can peel and there's certain scenarios where you can do that certain ones where you can't but he's very very good about that he does it all the time and so they had to have seen that along the way that you get you can when scenarios where you least expect it he can sometimes do it so I think a big part of it was winning the round potentially saving some cardio if he had staff infection relatively close to the bout and then also particularly solving for the kind of thing that Dustin's very very good at you take that away so yes does that enable you to get the submission he couldn't get it from there that's this is proof of what Dan her talks about he had the back did he get any of those chokes from the back he couldn't get them it didn't work because he had the body triangle and that's say you couldn't get it but if someone is skilled that's a Jiu-Jitsu black belt Dore it's going to be very difficult it's going to be very difficult it's the asymmetry nevertheless he won the round he's able to drain got good control time you get the idea let me talk about this Conor McGregor thing if I C if I can here's what I basically don't understand and I want to be clear I'm not I'm not suggesting that I have just I have questions okay so both Ariel helwani and py Carroll have indicated that they had heard something was off about the following day's presser so this is Sunday they had heard that something was going to be off the following day about the presser as I indicate all the way back on Sunday so that means that whoever like whatever issues they were experiencing at a bare minimum if there are any health issues and it's sort of assumed that there might be some kind of Orthopedic issue with Connor that means at a bare minimum that they knew something was off on Sunday right help me understand something here Sunday all day Monday they canel op pressor Tuesday Wednesday Thursday so you had almost all because they were they were hearing about it on the morning State Side time or morning noon time State Side on Sunday so most of Sunday Monday Tuesday Wednesday it's now Thursday and what time is it right now in Ireland is it like 8:30 9:30 something like that guys what Orthopedic issue could he possibly be having where they were able to make some kind of evaluation on it on a Sunday and still by Thursday they don't know at least in terms of resolving the issue they don't have an accurate timeline for or they don't understand when he'll be ready to go that doesn't makes sense or something is missing here I know what folks might say they're like well I had to get an MRI and I've had to go get surgery folks I've had to get an MRI I've had to get surgery I have to get another MRI coming up in a couple of weeks for my [ __ ] up knee so I understand we're not talking about average people getting relatively routine Medical Care through normal procedure right making an appointment waiting to get your MRI waiting for the lab to process it waiting for that to then be sent to your doctor having another meeting with your doctor and then if you're going to get surgery then having that all that scheduled that's not what we're talking about here we're talking about the guy has by himself access to Physicians almost certainly on call we know for a fact UFC has in-house Physicians essentially on call for this kind of a thing how is it taking this long if there actually is some kind of Orthopedic injury to make some kind of assessment on Sunday and not know a what the problem is and then ultimately how long it's going to take to recover like when I got my MRI when it was sent to my doctor it was sent to him in the morning he called me in the afternoon like you need surgery it didn't take it wasn't like this majorly deliberative process they knew they knew they know either it's torn or it's torn to a degree like they they're able to make these medical assessments what what they don't have is information but for the M MRI or but for the the CT uh the the the Cat Scan they need they need that it's hard to make a diagnosis without that without that yeah there is significant uncertainty right but if you've got that and again we're talking about a situation where figuring this out is also not just because you have the resources it's like of of monumental importance to get this answer to them right they need to get an answer right away some kind of an assessment so like not only do you have access to these kinds of things but there is a timeline in imperative where if they do have to pull that fight and again I'm not suggesting that they will but if they do have to pull that fight you know they're they're under the gun like they're losing money every day if they don't end up doing I know that the gates already 20 million plus I'm simply saying if Connor does have to get pulled you want to do that sooner rather than later otherwise you're just cheating the customers and with the speculation already in play this would be a disaster for them so I just don't understand what the situation is I don't understand how you can have something so inscrutable of a medical orthopedic problem and I saw people being like well I'd have to go to The Specialist and specialist will get an opinion and send back okay it's been five days I've never seen that in the NBA I've never seen that in the NFL with the exception of something that was like horrifically traumatic and it was ongoing and ongoing like Alex Smith Alex Smith also broke his shin bone but he didn't break it like this for people who watching this from Europe he didn't break it like this right like you're taking spaghetti like angel hair pasta and you're just breaking it his was a spiral fracture it turned and twisted and then broke in the process which as I'm told is like the worst [ __ ] way for that thing to get broken and so yes when you have something like horrifically bad where you know it is hard to know how long it's going to take to come back if you can't at all yeah okay fine but if that's what we're talking about he can't fight anyway and of course that's not what we're talking about we've seen a picture of him kind of lounging in what appeared to be a doctor's office and again all this could be for show no one else finds this weird this it's some there's some portion of like what is being told to us here or not much is being told hinted at and rumored doesn't make sense it doesn't make sense that he's had it does not to me in any way make sense that he had he's had an orthopedic injury again under this assumption this hypothetical scenario on a Saturday or a Sunday and it's now Thursday and they don't have a good idea about when he could return and I saw people coming up with some dumbass comments like oh well because of inflammation and blah blah blah guys they can make these calls on these NBA teams or these NFL teams with their in-house Physicians quickly quickly very very quickly whether you want to get surgery if they recommend it is a different conversation you can get another second opinion they have to make these decisions quickly now doesn't doesn't it doesn't something doesn't make sense about that that explanation to me oh he's got some medical ailment and they're just waiting to see how it goes if they know what it is then they know what the timeline for Recovery typically is and then they know whether he can do it and if it really is that sensitive where they can't figure it out but for two weeks only to then drop the ball later assuming he couldn't or something like that I don't buy that I I I think that they if what if he does have an injury then they should know relatively speaking again no no one can ever be 100% medically certain but they should know with a relative degree of certainty what that timeline for a recovery would look like and whether or not he can make it and you can't just like cancel a press conference and kick your feet up and be like ah we'll figure it out in a week you got to figure that out now um I don't know I don't I don't I I'm not saying he's not injured I'm just saying that argument that that explanation is full of holes full of holes I think if that is an explanation then it's probably being then there's actually something else going on and that might be some kind of public cover for it I don't know I I again I'm speculating but I can just tell you like he's got an injury and medical doctors at the highest level inh house with no obstruction ability to run tests immediately if they needed it can't make a call after five [ __ ] days dude that's not how this go I'm telling you if you've ever had surgery if you've ever had an MRI your doctor takes one [ __ ] look at it and goes yeah you need surgery it's very easy to tell if the lab is torn you can see it right there on the MRI I don't get that I don't get that part all right what do you think about a potential fight between Joshua and Jiang yeah it's be fun considering they fought Joshua vs. Zhang. once in the 2012 Olympics with Joshua coming out on top how do you see a rematch playing out now with their professional careers Big Bang Jiang is great but he's not super mobile and I think he's crafty and he set stuff up pretty well but he's also in his 40s I think Joshua would Pro I'm not yeah Joshua would win I was gonna say tune him up I don't think that's right we gotta be careful with that um but yeah I think Joshua has gotten a lot better um I think I don't know if he's got a longer reach or not i' have to go back and look I I and I've not seen their first fight just cards on the table but just sort of seeing late form of Joshua and then late form of Jiang jien is not mobile he's pretty flat-footed and I think a guy like that is going to get eaten alive or not have great success anyway against a guy like Joshua who much much more able to work behind the jab big powerful right hand cut angles move turn really make it a much more mobile contest and I think that's going to be a big disservice to a guy like Jen I've heard that volkanovski and ol Vera might step in as a backup if the Chandler McGregor fight falls through what are your initial thoughts on this match up vinoski versus Ola I don't have any interest in that personally I have some reservations about whether it's the best choice for volkanovski volkanovski needs to not fight he got polished off twice head kick KO and then a brutal one basically a one punch KO uh that was in February March April May March April May June so we're just four months removed from that dude I don't want him in the Octagon under any circumstance before six months at a bare minimum at a bare minimum yeah no thank you it's not that we don't want to see vulk it's not that we don't like vulk it's that dude if you care about this dude Beyond just what he offers to you as a service product then we need to take we need to pump the brakes on that for sure okay so this person writes seems like John I'm assuming John Jones is Jon Jones' Resume. highlighted by its length rather than its names yeah okay Jon's best win is DC what would you say is his second Rashad third seems like JN has a lot of good wins but only a couple of great wins for example Shogun Rampage weren't on big streaks dude [ __ ] Shogun was the champion when Jon took the belt off of him and recently lost to Forest oh y'all okay he has title wins versus cha OSP Smith and Gus 2 not saying John is in the goat but in terms of rums does GSP have better wins you can make an argument about GSP being potentially the best if you wanted to um that's a good argument you could make I don't think I would make it um but you could if you um you could have it's very very close it's very very close between he and GSP but hold on just one second here boys and girls hold on just one second now listen I'm always up for some Jon Jones criticism the guy deserves it certainly more than any else potentially in the game he's no friend of mine and I am no friend of his however we do need to talk honestly about uh you know what the [ __ ] the story is here okay so let's look at this if we can here for just a second these are excuse me this is going to be his resume let's see good Lord is [ __ ] guy's career is insane okay so let's look at his career in the UFC first of all Goose mauu was a big name coming out of the pfl when he fought him Stephen boner this was you know the next kind of thing in the process but he dominated him and literally th you never seen those threw him all over the Octagon a ridiculous performance Jake O'Brien let's talk about Jake O'Brien UFC 100 now at this point Jon Jones has made some noise he [ __ ] beat up Andre Guzman who had a good reputation coming from the IFL and then he threw Stephan Bonner around like a rag doll and then hit spinning [ __ ] you'd never seen in your life like and literally he had learned these things to he admitted he learned them on YouTube okay and he's out there just doing it in UFC fights crushing these bamas then he fights Jake o bryen Jake o Bryan was supposed to be like the next big thing um at heavyweight he's ultimately he fought there was a heavyweight component to his career Jon Jones just absolutely beat the living [ __ ] out of him that was not even remotely close I'm surprised they went to the second round then there's Matt Hamill let's go back then there's Matt Hamill a good amateur wrestler you know sort of the next place along in the process and I know he got dced but you know he was beating the [ __ ] out of him Brandon Vera was the next one along in the line Brandon Vera was a guy who was um destined for greatness at heavyweight and light heavyweight for a time had some great wins you know obviously beating Frank Meir beating Justin isers and Brandon Vera got got his face broken by Jon Jones Matt Yenko credential but you know aging wrestler Jon Jones beat the absolute [ __ ] out of him and I have it on good authority he barely was ready for that contest and just rolled right over him so at this point it now puts him in contention for top of the division for a title shot he fights Ryan Bader who had also been on a bit of a run up to that point and very very good this is UFC 126 we're talking about literally 13 plus years ago and Jon smokes him if you don't haven't seen this one Jon actually finished him off uh with a guillotine choke where he had his own Fist and he shoved it in the throat of Ryan Bader so that's Ryan Bader then he fights Mauricio Shogun Hua who was the [ __ ] champion at the time and takes the belt off of him then he goes into Denver and fights Rampage Jackson You Might Recall this is where Jon Jones tried to do a British accent with me the entire time we had an interview it was [ __ ] weird but that's what he likes to do anyway Rampage uh was let's see what was rampage's streak coming into this one certainly he had done quite well for himself in Pride so prior to the Jon Jones fight let's see about that so prior to the Jon Jones fight uh let's see let me pull it up here very quickly if I can yes so he came to the UFC obviously before that blah blah blah he beats Silva he beats Jordine loses to Rashad and then he had the two wins himself leoto and Matt Hamill so that one was I was there for that one was at the Pepsi Center in Denver it was a big name but we all kind of felt like he would do better but the one key thing you have to remember is Rampage at his best had awesome takedown defense if you've never seen the Kevin fight it's a great example of that vtor bfor was one that was last minute and the guy was Juiced and JN still beat him with a key lock the cha sonan thing I you know that was just a stupid fight that they made gust ofon gave him a very very difficult fight with really key great movement behind a jab and Jon had to rescue himself out of that one and ultimately did that was a very credible tough good win Glover toera I was there for that one he was overmatched Daniel Cormier then he wins that one oven St per did didn't look that great but got the job done beats Cormier again at UFC 214 and what could only be described as a mugging then beats guson again and what can only be described as a very ugly mugging and then to me is when things really slow down for him Smith he beats but it's ho hum Thiago Santos he looks poor doing Reyes I thought he lost to and then serial Gan kind of [ __ ] the bed I mean guys when we talk about like what Jon has done I'm willing to hear almost any criticism about him but that his resume and this didn't use that word but that his resume every resume has flaws every resume has limits but that is an objectively [ __ ] awesome resume and you will very rarely see ever in your life a resume like that I cannot overstate to you when he was going through light heavyweight there were Everyone likes to say oh the division was a little bit older and there was a bunch of guys who were flawed and that's true but these were also guys who were still very very good and very viable fights and he [ __ ] mowed through them and to the extent that the Rampage fight I think went to like the third or fourth round it was only really because Jon let it he could have gotten those fights out of there even quicker if you wanted to and he wasn't even training full-time through a lot of these like we all talk about like boxers who take time off and then like come back for the camp and then they fight and then they go off and then they have camp and then they go fight and we're like oh you can't really do that in MMA like GSP didn't do that John would do that for long stretches of his career and still win just just an absolute Phenom no no two ways about it um yeah you just you can't take that from him someone asking another question about DDP and izy kind of been already been over that all right let me see oh we're gonna kill Brendan cha now all right let's see uh according to Brenan sha this person writes and I don't know if that's true because I know if I've heard this Islam Schaub On Islam. should not be pound-for-pound number one because he had two defenses against a featherweight and against an old poier he even said Pera should be higher than Islam because he's beaten better opponents according to him light heavyweight ain't even it's not even a top four division wow okay why does sha never give credit to khabib or Islam it's always the opponents are not good enough yeah I mean again I would have to double check to see if he he said these things but certainly I would never agree um light heavyweight and down versus 185 and up are two different sports and the the 155 and down one is a much better one and a much more difficult one I I don't mind the idea that something should be said about Islam fighting a featherweight twice now this is not any ordinary featherweight when at the time he bought uh he beat him the first time he was ranked number one pound-for-pound so like you know if you're going to take on a smaller weight guy that's about the best case scenario in terms of what it can do for your resume if you're Islam so let's just be clear about that he was beating the best guy that everyone had looked around and thought was the best guy in the sport he beat him and then knocked him out in the rematch and Charles he just [ __ ] ran through that fight wasn't even close porier was a tough fight but he gutted it out in the end and he got the job done but porier really showing he's very very very very competitive significance improve significant Improvement in his wrestling durability um you know really made Islam work really really made it tough for him I don't know that I mean p has had some good fights but like the yam bovich fight like yanovich is not on the level of what any of the opponents Islam has faced recently is I know he's a former Champion but which I respect but like you know a much much much less competitive division certainly now this is what folks don't understand johon Jon okay 205 used to be the glamour division of the UFC Circa 2004 five six 7ish it was the glamour division right and Jon Jones was the guy who came and laid waste to all of that that is what he did there was this era of Tito and Chuck and Randy and vtor and vanderlay and Rampage and aona and Shogun and you can go on down the list and no Jon didn't fight all of those people right and I I didn't even get to the Macho one where he just [ __ ] left them slump there on the mat um but Jon didn't fight all those people but he destroyed that he destroyed this entire world of 205 being a marquee Division and not by himself the surgence uh the I should say the um the Resurgence really actually is a better way to put it the the Resurgence of 155 was a big part of that and the general way in which MMA was going was a big part of that but that [ __ ] guy just just with a with a machete H and just hacked through all of it and then the next crop that came up they might have been better in the sense that MMA was more advanced than those guys but they'll never replicate what it meant to have those guys in the division holding up the sport in that way both in UFC and pride when they were the real co-leaders or Pride was even better that's what Jon did Jon just destroyed all of that uh getting to this one you know I I respect that bovich was a champion and and Peta beating him was great but Jamal Hill coming off the Achilles Like who was beating pound-for-pound guys uh I don't know if porier was ranked pound-for-pound when they fought but certainly [ __ ] vul was Charles Olivera was as well and po Islam is has put all of them away yeah it's not it's not debatable I love I love Brendan but Brendan no sorry my friend all right I get asked this all the time how many champs do you see losing their belts this year probably most of them the [ __ ] is hard to hold on to probably probably most of them uh okay so do you know what actually caused the Dublin press conference do I know for a matter of fact no I do not but Dublin Press Conference. like anybody else in the industry you get a lot of calls and a lot of texts with people with a lot of theories but the only thing I can say is again I want to be clear I'm not suggesting to you and you guys know me I'm like the anti-conspiracy guy to the extent that I can be I'm not suggesting to you that he's not injured I don't know I don't know if he's injured what I just can't wrap my head around is the idea that there is a medical delay because either they can't get enough care or the care that they've gotten the doctors can't make an effective diagnosis about recovery time and therefore you know that's what's holding all of this up that doesn't make sense that doesn't make sense something else or something that that could be happening on one level but there may be other things running into that I mean it could be a few things right but why would you why would you it doesn't it it doesn't add up it just doesn't add up nothing about that adds up so that's the part that I've got questions on um will we see your post fight reactions back on the podcast again yes that was my fault it's 4 in the morning I'm trying to do everything I can it's just too hard I apologize for that dude I've got to get get this computer [ __ ] fixed man how long how let me ask you a question out there folks because I don't know the answer to this how long should you keep a PC like how long yeah okay upgrades and everything else but from beginning to end how long do you keep a PC I don't know the answer I've never this is my first one I've had the in forever so I don't know the answer to that all right if uh let's go to this question if McGregor ends up not fighting should Chandler just say [ __ ] it and take a short notice replacement fight or hang on and keep waiting for Connor it's getting absurd now how long he has waited for this one guys I mean I'm just going to be honest if Connor does have some medical ailment I mean I can't I don't think this is the case but if he does have some kind of medical ailment that they genuinely cannot figure out that they genuinely cannot figure out and is delaying him from this fight why the [ __ ] would you wait for him anymore that would make less than zero sense if you're really at The Point again this is an if this is a we are we are we are hypothesizing in a hypothetical scenario where this opponent you have waited for all this time who is by the way don't lose out of the fact he's trying to come back from a traumatic Sports an orthopedic injury if at the finish line or close to the Finish Line he actually can't get to it because he has a medical ailment that his own doctors can't figure out what the timeline for Recovery is going to be if there can be one at all all why the hell would you wait for him so this is what I mean it's like a lot of this just doesn't I don't know just something something's something's missing from this equation of course we don't have a lot of public information but you know I I just don't I just don't get it I don't I mean how many times has a guy been injured and they waited this long to tell you like every other time not just in this sport but other sports when they give an injury the doctors look at it they might get a second opinion they might get a specialist and then they're like well can you do this or not and all of a sudden we can't do that here it doesn't make sense that explanation that particular explanation does not make sense yeah if I was Chandler I mean if if Connor pulls out here it's a very easy for me to say I don't have to live his life but I couldn't imagine waiting any longer I just could not that would be a really really really bad idea all right let's see here if McGregor and dos anjos had fought back in 2016 at UFC 196 who do you think would have won it's tough because Conor was like in the zone back then but he Conor vs. RDA. was also a little he was starting to get a little bit Reckless you know um if Connor could have defended the takedown well enough Connor would have won that one uh but you know dos sandas had great Muay Thai tough as nails but Pro probably Connor probably all right oh Jesus I don't if I can read all of this but I'll try all right Luke I've been wait meaning to ask you since volkanovski's KO lost to Islam but after Trying And Failing. Dustin's latest defeat it seems poignant to ask now okay possibly not until the requisite time has passed but do you think Fighters like vul and Dustin place any value on their title defeats given that a lot of their peers never get to test themselves at the highest level so for example vul said in many pre-islam fight interviews that he wants to find out who's better he did it wasn't him those Knights but is there any way to derive satisfaction from having had the opportunity to try even if the result wasn't what they wanted yeah sure I mean listen this that's only a question that they can answer and I think you know hardcore competitors are usually going to say something like um they were better that night or you know uh there be some limited upside but they'll acknowledge that there's some upside but it's limited upside it really just depends person to person it really is a big big you know to know that you were competitive and of that ilk must be in some ways confidence boosting and yet to never get over the hump must in some ways be some probably a little bit hard to process I think if you're still in the journey and you've had some setbacks then it might be a little bit different than if you're at Dustin where you're not even sure what the point is anymore you guys have ever seen that clip of Giannis of the bucks um and a reporter asked him on on the year that they didn't make it to the finals was this a was this a was this a waste of a year was this a was this all for nothing and he was he couldn't believe the question he was like trying to point out like Michael Jordan played 16 Seasons or whatever it was 13 Seasons something like that he only won six championships with the other seven with the other Seven Seasons just total failures and of course the answer is no the answer is all of these things not all of them but many of them really contribute to a broader career they contribute to broader perspective they help you understand things they help set up success in subsequent chapters so it really will depend on the athlete it will depend on the athlete I can just tell you as a hobbyist you go up against somebody really good in practice and you get a sweep you get a pass you get a back take you get a big you land a big shot in sparring yeah it feels kind of cool but I don't my relationship to the sport or anybody anybody in those scenarios their relationship to the sport is different enough where I you know that you can't ask that of somebody who is fighting at the highest level hey what satisfaction do you take in your L's I think balanced smart Fighters will take some degree of satisfaction in certain aspects of failure in particular if it motivates them to subsequent greatness but in general I think they're going to have a fairly neutral to negative view of it but again this a better question for vulk how is Dustin going to be remembered given the context of not winning an Undisputed Championship I honestly think of anybody it's really not going to hurt him that much he did have to go up against all guys on Double Digit win streaks which is crazy Max for the in room was 13 Habib was 11 Charles 10 and Islam 13 honestly I really Dustin's Legacy. believe this of anyone who has not won the full weight class title and given what he's what he has achieved again Connor twice Justin Eddie um Chandler and others I honestly believe he's going to be kind of considered among that ilk he'll be removed from certain debates or certain rankings by by just by necessity right who's the greatest you know the greatest the top three lightweights of all time you cannot include him because he doesn't have a belt so he is he is he is excluded from those kinds of conversations at the same time Blood and Guts fighter I mean fought in the [ __ ] trenches of the the toughest division for the very longest time you got to be kidding me what this guy has done never ducked or dodged a thing and more often than not got his hand raised including against some guys who were absolute Hammers and he put most of those guys away I mean yeah there's certain things lacking on his resume that will keep him out of certain places but the the good parts of his resume lift him to me I I think of him as a championship quality fighter I do I'm not saying you have to I'm not saying that that's the appropriate view but when you just look at what he's done those are typically the guys the losses hurt him too but on The Winning Side the way in which he's won and who he's beaten it's like a Champions resume on that side so um he is a tier or two down just by necessity but I like he said he's competitive with those guys and I consider him to be roughly in that same range of quality and because he is so adored I think the fans are just going to you know really love him and put him in the Hall of Fame and perhaps in a few different ways you know all right right now Japan has three undefeated prospects in tetsuro Tyra Rena Nakamura and Ray seruya out of Japan Prospects. these three who do you think will be the best why is it taking so long for the UFC to replenish their Japanese Talent too when I came into the game Japan was spitting out prospects in multiple weight classes men and women like you could not believe I had a hard time I still have a hard time but I had especially a hard time back then figuring out the crazy B versus W Jutsu kukai who's in this gym and that one and it's coming and it's going and it was crazy I mean the amount of talent coming out of Japan was [ __ ] Bonkers it was so much and then after the collapse of Pride dream hung on for a while s Goku hung on for a while but they ultimately collapsed and I feel like all of that not necessarily took down Japanese MMA with it but it was all part of a coinciding decline and so all of those names kind of got or I I should say the the the talent pool and the pipelines just seem to if not vanish dramatically shrink but now things are kind of turning around a little bit where I think there's some gyms that have hung on so there's some new ones out there again I'm not an expert in Japanese MMA by any stretch but it does seem to me that there's a bit of a new chapter that has kind of hit and they're getting guys who have a lot of composite amateur I should say excuse me they're getting guys who have a lot of composite um sports that make up MMA so a lot of wrestling a lot of Judo and they're getting them at who were like high Achievers in the amateur level that's exactly what you want like that's that's what you need so I'm not sure what's happening with inside Japanese MMA that's finally pulling some of those guys in but in the case of uh I'm not sure if Tyra's full resume but in the case of Nakamura and seruya we're talking about people who have good highlevel um composite amateur um combative Sports Experience and and creating a pipeline between that to MMA is uh critical um but yeah I don't think the UFC can only do so much they can't make Japanese MMA be something that it's not they can do a few things to kind of boost it they've made Mexican MMA be more but they had more to work with there there was they were starting from you know I'm not not going to say scratch but relatively speaking scratch Japan has been Advanced at this more than everyone they had a deep contraction solving that problem to get it going again is a very very different kind of one anyway the UFC put a perform performance Institute in China so let's see here did you see Joe Rogan talking to Max Holloway on his podcast Max on JRE. he said that he thinks that rounds should begin with the fighters in the same position they ended the last round in yeah I hate that idea he also said that MMA should take place in a basketball court I'm not impressed by either idea I don't yeah I don't agree I think would be the nicest way I can put that I don't think those are very good ideas either of them um to me these are readaptation of old school ideas so you know hey if you have if you if you think about MMA in the late 90s and the early 2000s and what was important removing some of these kinds of obstruction you guys would use their own Gees if the the there was Dojo storming and [ __ ] or you know whatever kind of challenge match but in general it was this kind of idea that there was a way in which a fight should go without being obstructed by some of these other elements and you know that was hoy's whole thing oh these guys are bigger than me these guys are stronger than me they have striking skills that I don't have but I can Outlast them in this kind of crucible that you know can go on for an hour plus remember have you guys ever seen ho Gracie versus kazushi sakuraba then that one was different it had some it had it had pauses in the action and whatnot but first of all sakuraba beats the [ __ ] out of him but that was more in keeping of what they what they wanted they wanted this kind of like let this thing breathe undisturbed there's no stoppages there's no or there's no rounds the ref's not gonna stand you up you just got to figure it out once the fight starts you know two guys enter one guy leave kind of scenario and what you realize is there's nothing more authentic about that way of fighting than any other way of figh fighting what you really have to wrap your head around is fighting is there are many different ways in which to do it and some are more dangerous some are more entertainment friendly some are something you could do more at scale things uh the rules enable more ma more bouts to be held versus like you know if you allowed ey gouging in your league even if it was legal you would not have a league that lasted very long so there's all different rules and adjustments you can make to make it more or less palatable more or less functional more or less entertainment friendly and you should pull those levers you have to find the right one that matches what you care about what the audience will respond to but this idea that you can't interfere or create obstacles in terms of a cage or have rounds because this would this would pollute the pure essence of what the fight was actually supposed to be is really just an old school way of looking at fighting from a completely different era that values the things that mattered in fighting at that time but they're no longer relevant and they're not in any like what would be the intrinsic argument that that is a more authentic way of doing it nothing about nothing about it is more authentic if you're fighting for money it's not authentic even if you're fighting in the street it's I mean fighting in the street with a shirt on fighting it with a denim jacket fighting it where there's glass on the ground fighting when there's multiple attackers when there's weapons when there's not when there's C any number of these scenarios changes the the the the the variability one is not more authentic a version of fighting than the other they're all just different versions of the of a similar kind of struggle so find the exact formula of that struggle that makes it you know obviously you you want the athletes to be tested in terms of the the challenge should be challenging it should be entertaining it should be it should have a little bit of flow to it and then just be done with it that's what literally every sport does like when the when when when basketball I'm reading a book Now by um Mike Michael praa uh who wrote on the three-point Revolution I'm almost finished it but because I've been reading it on and off for a while but the point I'm trying to make is dude when they like the lane used to be six feet now it's 16 feet The 3o Arc has never been as far back as it is they've slowly moved it that way and all of these other adjustments they slowly tweaked the formula to make it kind of work over time but like you this is more authentic basketball than anything else that's that's just a total that's just that its authenticity can only be a function of what value preference you put on it there's nothing intrinsic about one version of it being more authentic than another and so for that reason it's just kind of silly also like a matted basketball court like what the [ __ ] are we gonna get out of that no you have to have a constrained and contained fighting surface the rounds give it some flow they give it they give it some direction it make it it makes it palatable to Regulators because that's a thing you actually have to solve for right these rules all kind of matter and this is why I keep saying this to people dude in in wrestling you have to advance position you cannot in any way just sit around and the and the referees will blow the [ __ ] whistle quickly on you they move the sport along I don't know if we need that in MMA but again this idea like oh I'm just not going to interfere here you are already interfering if you don't make a call about what the rules exactly say because the fighters will respond to it and then they will compete around it you already made a choice so you know anyway you get the idea there Tu home that's an interesting comparison thoughts on this comparison khabib is Jordan with the mentality in game Islam Khabib = Jordan/Islam = LeBron. is LeBron with a diverse skill set but not as much of a Killer Instinct I don't know if I could if I'm enough of a basketball I don't know if I have enough information to make that s it's sounds like a good comparison I can say that sounds like a good comparison all right let's see if we got anything I'll get like one more top five MMA coaches of all time that's a good one um Greg Jackson Javier Mendes Ray Longo um Mike Brown maybe and I got one more I can fit in there who am I forgetting I'd like to put Nick sick in there I think he's nipping at the heels I think you have to have multiple Champions he I guess he has he had Francis he had Shawn yeah he might be in that convers I have to think about that that's a good one certainly he's in the he's in the running you maybe you want to say Dan Lambert but he's more just gym owner at this point you know um it would be anyone that's said I mean you could maybe say Trevor Whitman depending on how you wanted to look at it anybody who's had like multiple Champions across multiple weight classes I think is going to be uh you know at the top of that list all right let's see what you got onto the paid portion again thank you to everyone you don't have to do this but if you want to we'll get in on it and I don't know if I had let's see do I have somebody checking these out for me oh yeah yes we do okay great okay great very good let's see how this goes all right Luke in the Cricket World Cup the good news is USA beat Canada the bad news is you're playing Pakistan Cricket World Cup. next all right fair enough I can't say I love Cricket enough to care too too much but uh duly noted d noted I can't pronounce this dude's name Reading Comprehension. what is your approach to reading comprehension straight through page to page or do you take notes make highlights reflect chapters the biggest thing you can actually do is um physically write like I don't mean just typing on a keyboard or even with your pen on a like a lap or a an iPad but like actually with a pen and a paper writing there there's been some studies to suggest the actual Act of writing by itself is the one that really gets it done what two rappers would make for a fun MMA match you're asking a 44-year-old white Rappers In MMA. dad um oh you know who Freddy Gibbs and man who else I'm not sure about the other one Freddy Gibbs [Music] I guess Joe Bud he's more of a podcaster now right something like that all right Basher welcome my friend Luke praise the Lord UFC Denver I know you hate The Ultimate Fighter but don't you think the finale at the sphere will help its popularity without tough is there a UFC well it certainly holds a UFC Denver. valuable place in the history of the Ultimate Fighting Championship but no there I don't people keep doing this being like hey what if they put it on ESPN plus it's not going to make a difference hey what if they you know change up the format of the show it's not going to make a difference hey what if they put it in the sphere it's not going to make a difference it's not going to make a difference the format is done it's cooked it's old it's over it doesn't matter anymore it was enormously successful for them I mean don't get me wrong it was a huge huge win for them but it is not it is not some kind of game changer in that way anymore no Chris says do you and BC make money from the MK store if not why we didn't used to we we are about to start now MK Store. because it wasn't in our contracts back then and now it is is really the simple answer when we made the deal I never made a big stink about getting money from it I don't think BC did either I don't even know what we were expecting from it to be honest with you so it was just never part of the deal now it's part of the deal now it's part of the deal uh Chris says who you got for the Stanley Cup finals let's go Oilers huh NHL Finals. Edmonton let's go Edmonton that's what I got to say all right hi Tom says Hey despite evence Dana's hellbent on I mean this is unbelievable Dana's hellbent on power slap was there a point in history PowerSlap. where facts stopped mattering to him or was it always was like this I gotta tell you I don't even it's it's weird right so what's the interpretation here because every time he does one of these things there F first of all let's be clear about something there are certain ways you look at Power slaps numbers and they're in no way impressive at all and then there are other ways you look at them and of course got a series of viral videos that you can really count as like how was this a big win on on um did this do well for them yes there are their their content at times can certainly do quite well if you know you're measuring clicks there's no evidence that there's any kind of fan base for it to be clear and very little evidence anyway and every time he does one of these things like he's got a sheet of paper with him now and every time he does it he says some kind of statistic that is so wrong and like like literally disprovable with a cursory search on Google you know hey how many followers does Real Madrid have what are Taylor Swift's most watched videos like you can just look them up very quickly this is not this is not like where do we even go for this information like we already know where to go very very simple and yet he'll say things like that are completely like totally off so is it that he is getting good information like it's actually very you know if you actually read what the what's written on that sheet it's like you know Tik toks from May to June in the sports category we had number one you know something very specific is he just excluding that and just being like we're number one all time on everything that's one interpretation the other interpretation is whoever is compiling those stats for him is just trying [ __ ] things up on purpose because I I candidly am like I'm actually like shocked at this point that like this keeps happening where it's like oh we've got more than all of these and then you just look and you're like dude none of that's true you would imagine that like would he not have some kind of like hey stats guy or whoever's like compiling that information for him like you have to be more thorough and correct so we don't have these subsequent issues and it's like I can't tell if he's like completely disconnected in a way where he regret believes it and then that someone just gives him like complete [ __ ] and he just regurgitates it because that's what he wants out of this and when you're rich you can just have whatever kind of relationship to the truth I suppose that you want I don't know I don't know I genuinely don't know it's just baffling that you say things like oh yeah you know um Mars is closer to Earth than our own moon it's like well dude no it's not like we know it's not it's just a it's just you know certain things are up for like debate but like objective numerical measurements on on term term for term like apples for apples Instagram to Instagram Tik Tok to Tik Tok H how how do you what what would be your theory out there for why this thing keeps happening where it's like oh we've got more than any soccer team it's like dude you you'll never have more than Madrid has now like you won't even get close it's just it's just crazy TJ says thoughts on Dana saying Islam/P4P. Islam is not pound-for-pound number one as a way to Garner him fan sympathy support especially since Jones is Persona n gr who is Jones Persona NG gr with well I guess some of the fan base is pissed at him but not with UFC he's not um I I I tend to think that like there's two things at play here one they're selling this Jones fight as best they can right there's there certainly has to be some kind of salesmanship angle that goes into all of this and that's a factor you simply cannot Overlook that's one to I keep seeing like oh everyone's allowed to have their own idea about what pound-for-pound means and that is true there is no settled upon AG you know agreed definition however that's not to say that every definition is equally coherent and good so for example when people say hey if you put everybody in a room like who would walk out is to me the most nonsensical thing ever or conversely um what if everyone was the same size does it is like is like objectively like the shitiest way to adjudicate this conversation why because there is no possible way in which you can arrive at an answer even if I think for example if you put Demetrius Johnson and Jon Jones in a room most of us would probably imagine that Jon Jones would win but we cannot guarantee that we simply do not know that we would just be guessing just be speculating there is no way to actually decide and prove aha if these two got in there then we we can say with absolute certainty in every way Jon Jones would always win you cannot say that between any two fighters any two people you actually can't say that it's actually not ma it's not it's literally not possible to say that so you're creating this measurement criteria that is inherently nonsense it doesn't mean anything well who would you know they were all the same size but they're not so we can't and we don't know what it would mean if they were all the same size we can guess what that might mean we don't actually know so to me when we're actually looking at like what pound-for-pound means again there is no agreed upon definition you are allowed to sort of figure out whatever way you want but it's actually what they've done not what they might do that's the part I don't get at all oh if they were all in a room so and so would walk out you are just making that up that's just made up it's just literally made up invented we all we all know they walk out we are we don't know that we actually don't know that we have no [ __ ] possible way of knowing that doesn't mean it's just words it doesn't mean anything it's completely incoherent so and by the way Dan is not alone in this measurement it sounds like I'm picking on him for this there's a lot of people who believe that but the point I'm trying to make is if that's your definition and your way of measuring pound-for-pound first of all you're not understanding the like what recency uh like the the value of having recent accomplishments and what that means and more to the point if your whole argument is a theoretical possibility of what could happen in a scenario that never will your definition is so terrible I think you should be excluded from the conversation that's what I think for anybody anybody if BC triy BC tries it sometimes well if they were all the same size they're not so now what well if they're all the same room they're not they're never going to be it's never a thing that's going to happen so now where are we we have to look at what they've achieved and we have to make some guess about how that measures up against other divisions and other greats and by the way that's super inexact too but that at least gives you something finite to work with something real you can look at that I can look at what Demetrius Johnson did I can look at what John Jones did I can look at what Islam makach have did and I can try to make some assessment of how they compare that alone is hard enough versus some well if they were all on the moon and the moon was made of green cheese who would eat their way from the north to the South Pole first I don't know but the moon's not made of green cheese and they're not going to be up there and that doesn't tell us anything so these conversations they just we need to stop them before they ever get to the next place that people want them to go I it doesn't just incoherent incoherent nonsense well they were all in the same room okay okay I mean what the [ __ ] does that mean what does that even mean how big is the room you know like uh is the lights on uh you know this is just you see what I'm saying it it asks you to think about things that have no bearing on understanding what greatness actually is greatness is what you have done what have you done let's look at that that is that's how you measure greatness [Music] so yeah dude if your whole answer to this whole [ __ ] is like well if they were in a phone booth and one of them had their pants down if that's your assessment of pound-for-pound I just don't think you should be contributing to the conversation all right we funked up says there is a movement to incorporate modern coaching science into MMA BJJ that challenges the Paradigm of drilling greater than sparting prevalent in martial arts gyms any interest in talking to some of the leaders sure Modern Coaching Science. message me message me oh here we go some of them being Scott SE Josh peacock and dude so I used to train under Greg saers um Greg used to train uh GRE Greg was a um that's a long time ago Greg was a purple belt purple belt he's a purple and brown belt and he taught uh at the school that I was going to at the time so I um I'm friends with him on Facebook I haven't seen him since the DC open which was pre pandemic but uh dude Greg's the man super smart guy super smart guy really great way of breaking down everything and I remember the last thing he taught us was um standing passes so grabbing the ghee dropping your elbow into the hip other hand on the hip uh head overhead standing um pushing it down and then you know stepping out the whole bit like that came all from Greg so yeah man Cody says if Islam goes to 170 how does he Faire against Leon Bal Islam At 170. or most importantly shaut we did the Sha cut already I just think in general he's a little too small I think in general he's a little too small he's not a small lightweight he's a big lightweight I think he's like a mediumsized welterweight at best I don't think he and I don't think that's going to be enough in that weight class Fred says I apologize for dting USA's cricket team we've just taken Pakistan to a super over that's insane I don't know what that even means but I'm happy for him you know what I'm saying I'm happy for him all right mua 2 says Luke Alex P versus uh arur better beeve in a boxing at their natural weights who Beterbiev vs. Poatan. you got considering weight Advantage dude better beeve would [ __ ] send him to the next planet kind of a question is that oh well you know Alex is Big okay that would matter I mean he might land some big shots better be is a champion in boxing Grant at 175 but your natural weight is going to be much bigger than that with a 100% finishing rate yeah better be's going to win that one Chris says who you got in the C the Cup finals again Oilers definitely definitely Edmonton definitely Edmonton by the way and I only only he could make me do it but I'm actually cheering for the Dallas Mavericks because that dude Luca donic you know I know it's very very like cliche to be a super casual NBA fan and then be like LCA donic but like he is [ __ ] electric I mean just you can't help it all right Cay says hey Luke hope you're having a great day thanks who wins EG or royville I would say EG but Royal's Erceg vs. Royval. tricky also is it safe to say that you're rooting for luuka there we go perfect yes of course I am Mavs and six although I saw Drake bet on them so that's you know that's a death sentence frequently casual says it is often said that inaway would be too small to fight a 135s and I agree but what about a fight with LMA in a year or two as he came up from 126 I don't know L's going to be here in a year or two now yes that to me is interesting 126 to me is interesting 13 remember he's at 122 now so he had to go 126 130 then 135 like no that's just let whoa timeout but at 1 126 I'd be very curious to see I just don't know if L's gonna be around at that time Evan welcome to the party all let's see what we got Zach says is Jones versus poon the current day version of what Jones versus Rumble Poatan vs. Jones. would have been no no Rumble was a big puncher but he could wrestle um and I know you oh you've seen him take him down you've seen him do all this kind of stuff but he had a good wrestling base poan certainly learned on the job but is bigger and lankier better kickboxing but probably not going to be as good in that in like a pure down blocking kind of way so it's not quite not quite the same any advice when job searching yeah it's going to be a lot easier if you know somebody at that company versus just trying to apply through the normal pipeline of how they receive all applicants got to figure out a way to get in the door that way oh how do you do that got to figure it out bro life is not fair Felipe says Luke according to sports media the favorites to win the bendor 2024 are two Real Madrid players venicius and Bellingham who do you think will win and who should win venicius Ballon D'or. Bellingham had a ridiculous start to the season kind of petered out over time which was normal he had to come back to earth he was playing at an absurd level but if you just look at who was I think the most decisive in key games over the course of the Season throughout the different championships La Liga Champions League and others it was Vinnie Fred says USA beat Pakistan the biggest upset in cricket is this real hold on now I have to Google now I have to Google Pakistan cricket let's see what they got USA won the super over by five runs I guess that's big yeah there you go cool all right I guess that's pretty big biggest upset in cricket history all right I'll take that USA [ __ ] all right which fight do you think was better vul or Dustin well vul was two of them Dustin fight was more competitive but Dustin fight dust both dust the first y'all can say what you want the first vulk and Islam fight was 4-1 Islam you know I could swallow 3-2 but no it was four to one Islam crackman top five Global Sports next 10 years MMA one of them maybe if for no other reason then there's still so much unconquered territory right like Top 5 Global Sports. what if it blows up in China vast parts of the of other countries with you know significant Islamic populations look what's happening in Europe it's possible absolutely absolutely it's possible did your politics and military service align not really Politics/Military. know I kind of had like a much more of a compartmentalized identity at that time but I mean they weren't like super Divergent they're probably less Divergent than they are now but no they were not aligned Dylan says did you see where Kamar Usman called out Dustin I did Dustin vs. Usman. thoughts on the fight and if Dustin won what would that do to his res alltime lightweight talks first of all I think kamaru is way I mean kamaru gave Hamza a tough time I think he's way too big and um I mean it'd be huge for Dustin if you got a win like that but you know the guy broke his nose broke tour his ACL and broke something else too I think he broke his eye socket something like that some absurd punishment he had to endure so yeah yeah crazy is it difficult being a national fan I went to the game last night they they lost nine to No 9 to1 I left in Nationals. like the eighth or ninth inning I was like yo [ __ ] this not really I I enjoy it on a casual level like who cares if they win or lose you know what I mean all right huaa I'm sure I'm saying that wrong I'm devastated that 303 Main Event might be off do you feel the same way or UFC 303. are you less interested than most fans about the return of McGregor I'm definitely very interested in the return of the McGregor but I my fandom doesn't hang on it you know it's to me it's more just a question of like will he or won't he and what that will mean for the sport I don't have like U I won't be disappointed in the way that a fan would but I understand why don't please don't misunderstand me that's not me me saying oh I'm better it's just I'm in I have a different relationship to the sport I think fans being disappointed would be like the most normal understandable reaction um I don't have that one but yeah I I mean I obviously I don't wish anything bad for him I'm just if he if he can't fight he can't fight like it's that's the sport your intro louder than the TX T THX one in the theaters I know it always comes out that way I apologize take on Hills tantrum towards fans super steroid says and Alex for making fun of him for getting KO despite talking all that [ __ ] pre-fight seems he needs help processing it I I mean this is this is what I would say right if being on social media is causing you this much consternation it's time to log off a little bit and I'm saying that like to help I mean it genuinely I'm not doing a bit like I'm not I really and genuinely me like I couldn't be more sincere if you're getting that much annoyed and bothered by what people are saying about you online you gotta you got to walk away because you can't fight it you I mean I know he's got like the he had like $20,000 people able to show up but like you literally can't actually fight it you can't do it um so dude you got to log off I said this before so many fighters pay attention to what people say about them and then and this is true of like a lot of different people but they what they want to what they want you to believe is the strength comes from either silencing them physically or intimidating them into silence or getting people to respect you so that they want to be silent but the real trick to getting past all of it is to just not care what they say to not let it affect you and then it's easier to do that when you have a little bit of distance between it that that's actually the that's the real antidote is to literally not be bothered by it not to try and intimidate everyone into silence so like if you're getting that if it's and I understand it dude like it's I can't imagine being a fighter and then people just ripping you to pieces like that dming you about how you [ __ ] their parlays and it must be hard but it clearly is bothering him so I think for like mental health purposes if it was me just gotta log off for a little bit Jackson says which UFC Champions do you think Jon could beat right now if he didn't have a left arm none of them not UFC Champs vs. Jon Jones. one uh okay Johnston says Dustin par had his nose rib that was the other one and ACL broken but the X-ray also revealed that he had 100% that dog in him Armen will need all those things and more healthy to have a chance of raining down Islam vs. Arman. on the Islam parade yeah it's going to be tough Armen is young athletic great control just doesn't have Dynamic offense for anybody who can resist his physical control that's why I think Islam's gonna be a bit of a tough matchup for him uh the last stand says national anthems before MMA title fights yay or nay big nay for me don't need it boxing does it don't like it don't need it waste of time I've seen Regional MMA fights do it you know they bring out the the local Marine reserve unit and they do the color guarden [ __ ] I'm good I'm good on that they do it by the way they don't do the national well no they do the national anthem at games and I can't tell which inning it is for the gats but they do Walmart it's like let's thank all the veterans and I was there with my buddy yesterday who was an Army Captain who did two tours in Iraq I was there and we we were we looked around we were the only ones sitting it's like dude that whole thing about like the pageantry with the military that's for the civilians like oh we're doing it to like you know to make the veterans feel good thank you very nice I don't need it but thank you my friend he went to Iraq he saw some crazy [ __ ] he doesn't want it or need it either like it's for the civilians it's it's so that they can feel better it doesn't it's not for anybody else all right here we go the bad guy I Islam Fans. don't think it's the actual bad guy think a lot of fans are coming around on on Islam right now he came in clutch with that finish though because if he didn't people would be crying robbery and [ __ ] on him again just like the first vulk fight yeah dude dude Islam is [ __ ] good he is good he is very very good and Dustin made him work in ways that really no one else has to this point not not not not certainly in the takedown department and some other ones too and he still got the job done um but he is he is at worst the third best lightweight ever and I think he's got a better case to be number two all time behind khabib that's I mean what the hell else do you want from people a historically good guy in a historically good weight class like isn't that enough you know all right Anthony says Reed McGregor two fights left on his deal think he wanted more money for the Chandler fight biggest G yet he doesn't get a cut of it severely underpaid so this to me would make more sense as a theory now want to be clear I don't have any I literally and I could not be more sincere I don't have any information to that effect however and he might have some medical ailment too I'm just saying the story as previously discussed like this took five days and we have no answer medically it doesn't make sense so that being some kind of cover for what the real story actually is or you know one is semi true but there's really this other bigger story that makes a lot more sense to me now whether it's because he wants more money or another deal or something I don't know but you know how many fighters have ever gotten a cut of the gate none this is GNA be the first $20 million gate dude like when the when Spence and Crawford fought in Vegas they ended up doing I think 700,000 pay-per-views or so give or take they each had a $25 million guarantee guarantee each of them Chandler ain't going to get that so you could even give him like a 40 million guarantee and and he would he would get a cut of the gate like they're not they're not going to get that either so like to me I don't know if he's holding them over a barrel although he's done that before right he was supposed to fight a UFC 200 didn't want to do media they canceled it and pushed it off later or 196 or whatever it was you know or then they fought a one whatever the ones he was supposed to do and then didn't do and then they ended up having to move it he's like done this before you know and I wouldn't blame him one bit if he did I wouldn't blame him you got a $20 million gate yeah he should get a cut of that right shouldn't he get a cut of that does doesn't that seem fair that I mean they're coming to see him they're coming to see who Carlos olberg no disrespect but he's not the one pulling 20 million at that gate you know Blair Flair versus Broner who you got Broner was literally threaten the Flair vs. Broner. guy threatening the guy with murder so I'm going to go with the other guy uh Johnston says let's say McGregor Chandler is off okay which fight is more likely to replace Alex 303 Replacement. Ilia Alexander volkanovski versus Ilia Toria again or Alan I think you mean Holloway Ilia or Alan I would imagine the bigger one of the two would be Holloway Ilia but the question is do they want to burn that when they could keep it for a later date I don't know that's the big one that's the big one did Real Madrid pick up Killian in the recent trade yeah they got him for free they got him for free going to be a long 10 years of people just hating on real mrid I welcome it will Don King steal 50% or more of the pay because he's the one promoting the Broner fight um probably probably is the answer all right let me make sure I didn't forget anything on this end let's see let's see I don't think I did I think I got them all here ah here we go here's one from aifi 96 aside from MMA boxing and soccer which sports do you enjoy regularly uh at the opposite which popular sports do you find so boring I cannot watch cycling American football or baseball okay which one do I enjoy regularly I I like a lot of sports man uh soccer would probably be number two behind Combat Sports um and then after that probably American no yeah after that American football and then after that socc uh NBA and then after that it doesn't work that way I watch the local teams so whatever season is on I watch the commanders I watch the Caps I watch The Whiz I've been watching the playoffs because again donic is amazing but the ones I can't I can't watch I don't know man I most sports I can watch I don't really have like oh this is an impossible sport to watch like rowing and [ __ ] I can't watch but you know team sports of the professional leagues I can watch all of those uh was there anything else I think that's it oh wait here we go um hi Luke can you share with us your short medium long-term goals for your personal Channel paying my mortgage um I have a larger I've talked about this before about getting off the algorithmic treadmill to a degree obviously you cannot do that on YouTube so I want to complement some of the efforts in some other places but then have them all work together uh I think I'll have something probably end of this month or next month as a comprehensive here's what I plan to do kind of thing and that will give you a greater sense of like where it's all headed it's a good question and then he says who's the most random person that's ever reached out to you with an MMA related question someone you were caught off guard by I've had some weird ones um I won't say who but I've had some conservative like uh very famous conservative um like podcasters or YouTubers or whatever I've had several of them reach out for like questions um but I was friendly with him you know I wasn't trying to start some stupid ass argument so yeah that's probably in the strangest one you know uh that I can think of but yeah okay boys and girls thank you so much for watching I greatly appreciate unless you got anything else that should be it I don't think there's anything else I think that's all I got for today trying to see yeah because aell is not here guys if you talk to aello give him a shout oh wait there's one more here sorry from Jay Jenkins shank given in boxing right now we've got three extreme talents at the top of the pound-for-pound it makes me wonder how do we not discuss constantly that Silva GSP and Jones never fought well Silva and GSP kind of wanted to and they wanted to do it at a catch weight they could never really agree on the catch weight was it going to be 178 180 would they go up to 185 it was a whole thing and then Silva's gone and then GSP does it years and years later fighting bisbing but that was the issue they could never really agree on on weight and I'm assuming probably money as well yeah okay there we go thank you everyone I greatly appreciate it of course this will go on podcast make no mistake about it love you all um going to have a video for you guys tomorrow with a with uh should be a fun one I think as I'd put it it's already done we're going to have that uploaded for you tomorrow a different one but a fun one and um yeah some more content over the course of the weekend thank you guys so much I really appreciate it you're the best and until next time boys and girls you know the drill stay frosty
