Rome Odunze On Caleb Williams Connection, Learning from Keenan Allen, Returning Punts, Adams Comps

Rome nice to meet you you were you know one of your top traits not route running not speed being elusive clearly I was in Chicago you evaded me you were too shooting commercials I didn't realize you were an actor a little bit a little bit of an actor you know gotta do my side quest got to you know set myself up for Life After football so maybe you'll see me in the next Hollywood film uh 10 years down the road so just getting some practicing what was it like being fully in uniform running up and down the stairs at Soldier with this awesome campaign uh it was awesome you know um uh it was it was exciting I think it was great to finally be able to you know work with them um Levy and got a mentor for me and Coach Chris he was teaching me you know you know the the vendor calls and you know how to how to get people buying hot dogs so um it was awesome you know uh you know people been asking me you know all about the Chicago Foods so um you know finally I got to work with them and you know figure out the Chicago dog figure out the Deep disc pizza and all those different things and you know got to shoot my little little commercial with my with my boy Chris and you know now going to have my own little hot dog in uh in Bears Soldier stadium so yeah I'm excited about it I need to hear some of the calls what did you learn give me your best we're in section 231 I need a hot dog what are you saying you need a hot dog oh my gosh I mean shoot I I got a little practice gotta get my vocal cords right but it's like it's like hot dog get your hot dog here woo that was good right there coach Chris would have been proud of me on that one for sure that's not bad who on your team would be the biggest competition in selling hot dogs like who would you be like oh he's gonna sell more hot dogs than me he's good um definitely Mercedes Lewis um his voice like when he talks like it's commanding I don't know what it is you know he's been in the league for a long time he's he's a grown man so I don't know whenever he talks it's like IR attention from everybody so um I'll probably say him it probably turn a lot of heads in the stadium what have you learned so far about being Chicago Bear and how special that is oh man I mean I learned something every single day you know the history of of this franchise and you know all the things that uh comes with it um the legends that have played here before that are still around and and walk around and you know the fan base that's super passionate and is very you know hungry for a winning team and uh another Super Bowl it's it's awesome you know it reminds me a lot of you know my college who which had a lot of history and uh um pedigree as well so to be a part of that fraternity to be part of something that could um continue to inspire this city which you know so far I think is a great city is uh something I'm super excited about for sure you roll up to the Hall of Fame game in a de Jersey and I'm just like oh my God I love this kid I can't believe it but is that how much you're politicking to return uh kicks punts whatever like how is that how was that experience going are we are we done with that chapter hope hopefully I mean I'm doing whatever I can to you know help the team so if I'm back there returning punts I'm I'm back there returning punts I'd love to do it but um there there's plenty of guys on the team that do a great job of it as well but um you know so you know opportunities for people out there but um yeah you know rocking my boy Deon Hester for sure you know that's something that excitement you know that he brought to the stadium and everywhere that he played is something I'm trying to bring whether that's on punt return on offense um whatever it is so for sure have you met Devon I I haven't met him um well formerly I got to see him you know walk walk across the hall of fame uh field down there in in Ken um so that was that was awesome to see and uh he texted me um a little bit just saying you know good luck and wishes me well on the season so um definitely looking forward to you know be able to chop it up with him and and and uh and do that but yeah he's he's a big inspiration for me right now I can't believe that you talked to Deon H that's amazing I was really thinking about it and with your skill set what you can do the situation you're walking into I think you I think I might be talking to the best wide receiver that Chicago will ever have that's what I think is that crazy Devon aside of course Hester did his thing Walter Payton is the fourth best wide receiver by the numbers in Chicago History he's obviously a legend at running back it's Johnny Morris it's Haron Hill and it's Alshon Jeffrey right so we're talking straight up pure wide receiver I feel like it's going to be you Rome I really do I appreciate that now that's that's big goals to strive for something that I definitely is on my list so you know it's going to take some time a lot of hard work dedication but you know that sounds good you know when it's all said and done if if that's where I'm at then you know I'll be happy with that career so you know I'm CH chasing my boy Johnny was just at practice uh the other day um he was he playing back in like the 65 or something so you know chasing his record you know chasing behind DJ um to to go you know do that thing but yeah I appreciate that that's that's High Hopes but you know we we'll get it done I think you will if if I said that you couldn't answer with route running and I asked you what is the it that you do best as a wide receiver what would you say you can't say route running can't say route running um I would say um I would say probably my uh contested catch ability I'll probably say just uh being able to catch the ball like with Defenders around I think is something that you know I've buil a good trait you know good skill skill set in so um I'll probably say contested catch for sure but the the Devonte Adams comps they're hot they're heavy they're flying all over the place do you enjoy those and how much yeah I mean shoot if I'm getting compared to Devonte Adams that's you know that's a that's a check on the buet list for sure that that's awesome you know he's a tremendous receiver so if I can do even you know one or two things the way that he does them out there on that field I'm know I'm doing pretty well so um that's awesome for sure you know definitely got to find my own style and find you know exactly how I want to play the receiver position in this league but um you know the more I can emulate Devonte Adams game the the more successful I'll be for sure you were part of the play of the preseason right let's get into it you and Caleb you roll he rolls to his left you make the sweet over the-shoulder grab on the sideline what does that play does single play what does that tell you and tell us about your connection oh I think you know I think it's it's uh it's exciting you know it's something that um is continuing to grow um I think you know that's something that that we have the capability of doing on you know any given down within within this offense and within his playmaking ability my playmaking ability so um something that you definitely got to look out for you know um those are definitely plays we we we we're going to be making but you know uh you know hopefully it doesn't always have to look like that hopefully we can you know continue to you know move down the field with you know execution different things but those plays you know that's why we love football plays like that so definely something special to be a part of did you know Caleb or talk to him ever before that flight to Detroit that everybody made a big uh mess of going to the draft yeah that was crazy um no I I had worked out with him um before um at U USC um just through a couple routes um worked out a little bit so that was fun um and and talk to him then but before then no not really got to see him play play against him see what he did um against our team which was exciting to see and then you know continue to develop that relationship but since we've been drafted I'm trying to think about what that must have been like like you know Caleb you've watched his game you've thrown with him you're on this plane everybody makes a big deal of it he gets drafted you get picked ninth and then like for the next couple of days or weeks you must just be thinking about what that's like me and Caleb I want to know is it right now the relationship the connection the skill level all of it the man the whatever is the is the Caleb Williams romad dun experience what you thought it would be back then right now or is it different um I don't know I don't know if I really set expectations for I think it's definitely you know something exciting like I definitely expected you know like you know break away plays where like I'm Escaping The Defender and he's rolling out and doing something crazy back there like it's crazy that that play actually happened in the preseason for sure but you know it's definitely a a new experience for sure you know um I think it it keeps you on your toes at the receiver position knowing he can do so many special things back there so um you always got to be you know looking for the ball and and trying to get open so um it's been something that we we've both been you know adjusting to both both been working at but um you know I wouldn't have it any other way for sure how do you relate to Keenan um you know me and Keenan just continuing to develop our relationship and it's been awesome to be able to you know learn underneath him like one as a player you know watching him out there every single day like there's something you can learn from every single one of his routes and I trying so up um all that information but um to like who he is in the locker room who he is you know as a person like he's a great dude you know someone who brings you know everybody together he's always trying to hang out like you said play the Monopoly um play cards or different things like that so um it it's been awesome being able to you know work alongside him and and build our relationship for sure and you know he he's uh continued to support me and it's been awesome so um you know I try and bring some youthfulness he's got he's got a lot of youthfulness in him all still to this day so you know uh it it surprises me how much en energy he continues to bring but you know he man I don't know when he's gonna stop he he Still's got the juice so we'll see because you have a huge family you have big ties super close-knit um Nigerian culture very family oriented family values and all of that how the hell are you gonna figure out your ticket situation ahead of this Titans game yeah I'm trying to figure that out right now I'm trying to figure out you know exactly who who's getting these tickets how I can figure out get more but um you know some something that when it comes to family we we'll make sure it happens we'll make sure everybody's here and you know in some good seats and joying my first you know official NFL game so um yeah they but they they deserve it you know all the support that they give me all the lessons that they've taught me um and things sacrifices they made to give me to this point so um however I I can get it done I'm gonna get it done so when you sent the levy hungry for football campaign ad to that family group text or email chain what are the responses oh man there's a little bit of roas in there I'm going to be honest us a little bit of Rosen uh when I when I sent the little ly um commercial to him but you know a lot of uh uh happiness as well laughter which you know is always always shared within the fam but um they were excited for me you know the the uh just for the opportunity and also you know uh me going out there doing a little bit of acting they see it just like me my little little side quest of doing doing things away from football so it was a lot of fun you want to be an actor I don't know I don't know we'll see we'll see how everything goes but I I don't know I have that have that in me we'll see we'll see maybe one day but right now I'm focused on ball so U maybe that'll be my second career but who knows you can help me out with that then then let me know I was making sure Aaron Clark is doing his job as your a PR guy I have to throw in a question about something football I needed you to say I'm just focused on week one I'm just focused on this Titans game I'm just FOC focus on helping my team and you nailed that with flying colors I'd buy a hot dog from your room I really would I wouldn't I wouldn't get ketchup on mine because I'm from Chicago would you get ketchup on your hot dog let's wrap it there oh you trying to set me up here um I'm gonna be honest I'm putting ketchup on my hot dog I just don't know how you can I just don't know how you can I'm simple like ketchup and mustard type of guy but you know I think the Chicago dog is is cool I mean y'all throw the kitchen sink on it so it's it's solid it's iconic it's drowning it's messy and you know you got to love
