LAURO ELEMENTARY SCHOOL WILL CLOSE THEIR DOORS AT THE END OF THE SCHOOL YEAR. THE RHODE ISLAND DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION -- THAT RUNS THE SCHOOL DISTRICT -- SAID THE CLOSURES ARE PART OF A 500 MILLION DOLLAR INITIATIVE TO REPLACE OLD, CRUMBLING SCHOOL BUILDINGS WITH FEWER, NEWER ONES.
