Alert! CDC Issues Warning: Deadly Listeria Outbreak Linked To Recalled Deli Meat

outbreak spreads in multiple States while a rare disease caused by mosquitoes kills one person in the US our very own Dr kohley is here to explain today's top health headlines kamla Harris's first sitdown interview as a Presidential nominee airs tonight with pressure building ahead of the November election what's at stake for her Michael Rapaport and Harry Hamlin will both be here live and Venice rolls out the red carpet for the stars of the new Beetlejuice movie oh my gosh get real no y just stop this is a sham it's finally here drum roll welcome to DBL we got our one and only Dr Coley in the building yes hi guys my girl um okay so Dr Coley you know we are going to begin with some very scary diseases in fact they are making headlines including a leria outbreak that's now le to B's head deli meat so far it has killed nine people so Dr Coley what is leria and what can we do to protect ourselves uh leria is a bacteria and it's all over nature you find it in soil you find it in animal feces but it can also cause food poisoning this is not just any kind of food poisoning this is the food poisoning from hell so it is diarrhea it is vomiting it is fevers it is chills and then if it gets into your bloodstream it can cause septicemia it can even get into your central nervous system and your brain but the most people at risk are like pregnant women or those with weakened immune system but this is the biggest leria outbreak that we've had guys in over a decade and you find it in contaminated meats you can find it in raw cheeses and we really have to take some precautions if we want to minimize our exposure because most of us handle raw meat right at the grocery store and such so I tell my patients when you're buying meat always put it in a separate bag never put it in the same bag as your other groceries when you're cutting meat at home you want to wash your hands before of of course but use a special cutting board and maybe even think about special knives for that meat so you're not contaminating your other food but also think about your produce cuz it's not just meat you can also see it in fruits and lettuce and other types of produce as well so really rinse that super well sometimes use a brush and sometimes people think if they're peeling something like an apple they don't have to rinse it cuz they're taking the peel off but we really encourage people to do that because it can pop up and it can make you pretty sick wow lord well one thing that I uh hate is mosquitoes because they love me so much and there are a number of mosquito born diseases going around um one is EE there's West Nile there's even something called sloth fever so talk to us about all of these yeah uh mosquitoes love me too Erica and and so it's it's kind of interesting it's your body chemicals that attract the mosquitoes and so certain people just get bitten a lot but even if you're someone who doesn't get bitten by mosquitoes you have to pay attention cuz we're seeing a surge in a lot of these mosquito illnesses Dr fouchi in fact was just hospitalized with West Nile Virus and he's going to be okay he didn't have any neurological involvement or anything like that but these are essentially what's called mosquito born illnesses the mosquito carries the illness to you usually from another host it doesn't spread human to human so that's the nice thing about it and most of us that are healthy will probably do okay with it we might have a flu like Illness but some people it can get into the brain or the nervous system and if that happens there's a high risk of death there's even a chance of permanent neurological damage how soon would you get sick sorry to interrupt but this is concerning how soon would you get sick if you were um bit by mosquito depending on which virus it is but usually within about a week to two weeks you can start to see symptoms the lesson here don't get bitten by those mosquitoes and you know that's why I don't go outside okay and you don't go into the woods you just stay in the city air conditioning no mosquitoes you have you been bit since you've been in the studio Erica I arrest my case well you're making a joke but at summertime I love to take a walk around the lake in the evening and guess when they're most active Dawn and dusk guess when they're active standing bodies of water so if you have a bird bath or you have a swimming pool you live near a lake that's you Sam that's my bird back I have a my bird bath do you get a ton of mosquitoes yeah are you going to let her get away with saying bee bath no she knows what a bee bath is a shall with they need to drink water I have a video why would you want bees near you because they pollinate and save her agriculture plant some flowers and move them away I did she did I did you did I did the bees are pollinating but the mosquitoes are also breeding around the water so ladies when you go out into your backyard make sure you spray your kids or spray yourself with insect repellent with de or you can even put lemon eucalyptus oil on your I do is that right oh yeah wow but it's just as important as that sunscreen and we don't take it seriously enough but we really have to pay attention because these viruses can I don't think I've ever been in a store that sold Lemon Eucalyptus no you get where what is that like Whole Foods you can get you can sprouts you can pretty much go anywhere you can get some essential I use vix oh vix yeah I've been using vix for a while oh there is eucalyptus in vix that's smart like a menthol kind of thing ER is an 89y old black woman if that is some old school right the Vick put on your yeah put on your chest go to sleep all right all right switching gear to that was hysterical uh Eli Lily has started selling its weight loss medication called this no I'm kidding it's called Z bound and it's direct to Consumers with a prescription but instead of coming in those injector pens it's going to be a single dose vial that you have to fill and inject on your own is that a good idea I know diabetics do but I mean tell me about that I'm kind of liking this idea and I'll tell you why they're being pressured to make this because of all the compounded knockoffs that are out there the fact that their prescription drug in the pre-filled pen so it used to be a pen that you just you know you click into your thigh and you inject those are more expensive to manufacture so the cost was $1,000 to $1,400 a month which was prohibitive so these single injection vials which will hopefully prevent overdoses because it's just one dose um are much cheaper $399 a month for the lowest dose and they provide the same sort of benefits you can also change the dose so let's say you don't want 5 milligrams you want 2 and a half milligrams I as a doctor could tell the patient to inject half but the question for you guys that I have is would you feel comfortable drawing up something and injecting yourself here's the thing anyone who's gone through IVF you know that this is just part for the course but I would say one thing that was very helpful for me was having a stationary place where I did all of my injections and everything and also the only thing about the needles are depending on where they're coming from sometimes they have um air in them before you use them dang and sometimes they don't so it is important to actually push the air in before you're injecting yeah so that you're you know not it is dangerous if you inject air into your blood vessel not so much into the fat but into the blood vessel can cause a cardiac arrest so but but the idea here is to take the drug and make it more accessible to people even if that means educating them more but that education piece I cannot emphasize enough and also making sure our older patients who might have a Tremor or some other type of problem dexterity issue are able to use it can we not get a pill get a pill so there is a pill okay yeah there is a pill we get it okay it's only for diabetics it hasn't been approv for weight loss yet got it got it but I think weight loss drugs are here to stay I think injections are here to stay especially with IVF and weight loss and we have a cholesterol injection that I use all the time so I think we need to not be fearful of the needles and just kind of embrace the idea of treating ourselves well said dry and I also heard you have an announcement please tell us is it about me oh man hi just let me know if you want me to turn his fair so the announcement is to be like Al and go ahead and schedule your flu shot and your Co shot good job yes are they available the new Co one so they got it green lighted by the FDA and they will be on the shelves in the next couple weeks and the flu shots are going to be there starting next week so I I can't emphasize this enough guys after everything we went through during the pandemic I know we're tired of the vaccines but let's just think of them as something we do every year just like we get our kids back to school we get those vaccines and we keep ourselves healthy well said Dr Coley well said of course back to DBL Jeff is joining us hey Jeff well we're glad that you're here for the next story for weeks now Republicans have been criticizing KLA Harris for not sitting down and doing an interview with the Press well tonight Harris and her running mate Tim Walls are going to be interviewed by CNN's Dana Bash the interview will Air in prime time at 9:00 p.m. Eastern on CNN now there is a lot of stake in this interview and a lot of Republicans including Trump say she's going to flunk the difficult questions so what do you think about this and what questions do you want to hear uh Harris answer let's start with you Jeff um I kind of wish it was live I know that's kind of the sentiment out there because now it seems like politics is more about Optics than it is their policies right but I would like to because she she hasn't spoken live yet so I'd like to see her go out there by herself when you have someone with you like Tim Walls which is fine it is kind of a crutch right when you're out there by yourself it's kind of just one-on-one with the interviewer and I hope they do a good job of a Level Playing Field because it is CNN interview but I would have like to see her do it live and do it by herself since we haven't heard from her yet yeah I so weird this whole agreeing with Jeff thing um I will I will say this very quickly um do I think she can handle an interview uh by herself and perfectly live yes I understand why she's doing it live to tape and with Tim because it's a crutch I think it would move the needle more if she had done it by herself and live I really I'm not saying she couldn't I'm saying I I get why she's doing it I understand but it really would have made some Independents feel much more comfortable she can handle the questions alone she can handle the questions and exactly what I said I know I'm just simply saying I agree with you yeah I don't I don't find this I understand optically what it looks like but I think that what the Harris Waltz campaign is doing very well is actually taking control of the campaign strategy I think that there are things that people are asking for and when the other side is doing the most it appears that you're doing the least um but that's really not the case in my opinion obviously we've already established that no one at least here believes that she's unable to answer the tough questions but I think in terms of people saying we don't know her the other side of that is we don't know wals either we don't know them right so them coming in a united front I believe is a campaign strategy all right and let's just switch gears because on the Lighter Side Barack Obama is joking about suit gate he posted this side by-side photo showing him and Harris wearing tan suits commenting how it started how it's going 10 years later and it's still a good look what do you think about this Alan why do you think it's such a big deal I mean I I look back almost nostalgically at that like remember those problems who knew that Co January 6 and all these things like that was all Fox had to go on was like his suit and that used to be a big argument and you know honestly people are going to uh wait their time revenge is a dish best served cold and Obama took those arrows when uh you know when he was in the presidency and really couldn't fire back but now as a private citizen former president he going to take his shots I'm sure that was annoying and I'm sure the nitpicking that we saw with him as uh not only the first president the first African-American President we uh you know I I don't care what anybody says he dealt with more and had to say less or nothing than anybody that except for maybe our first uh woman of color uh president will and the the reason we're sitting here discussing whether she'll be able to handle an interview on her own uh when we've been subject to a parade of foolishness from uh you know certain people on both sides but the idea that she can't handle it as a former prosecutor what do you think she's going to do why not start babbling yeah it is her first interview I mean it is a legit question I do I I do believe that she's going to do hundreds of interviews by herself but you have to understand they they're on they're on a clock though they they got they got into this game to the to the race almost three and a half years late like this is me and this is my running just saw the convention we got walls I'd like to see just her right now coming up on DBL Erica is going to share one of her favorite moments from the last seven years of DBL next and [Music] welcome back this week we are celebrating our time on DBL together and looking back at some of our favorite moments Erica it's your turn today so what special moments stood out to you the special moment that I had at DBL had to have been my natural hair Journey mhm there was a moment on daily blast live where we were talking about Biola Davis I got tired of always celebrating movies that didn't have me in it I don't mean me Viola I mean me as a black woman stop taming us and that stuck with me so much because I remember watching her on how to get away with murder when she took her wig off and I was like wow I want to be a part of the change that I want to see in media today living out my natural hair Journey on live TV hasn't always been easy but I found it necessary I had to learn how to be vulnerable and surrender to my hair it's been a wild ride that included gain the confidence to star in my own music [Music] [Music] video everyone sitting here on this panel and in the studio are so proud to share this moment with you oh my gosh thank you oh oh my my gosh Erica okay okay so you spoke about Viola Davis and how she impacted you but you also said your mom changed some things in your head tell me about that yeah I think um it's just important when I said the natural hair Journey when I was talking about it y'all have to remember this was in 2019 so it was before the social justice movement and we were just learning what the crown Act was and shout out to Dr AA B asamoa for leading that um and it was really about being able to wear our hair professionally as people color in any way that we saw fit and at the time natural hair was not prevalent on television and it was something that I wanted to be free to be me and my mother had always encouraged me that I don't have to hide behind other things in order to feel like I'm beautiful and she's always you know modeled that for me and I really appreciate her for that Dr cob beautiful story it's great that we're doing this because when I was asked to prepare my favorite memory it was this seriously I mean it would it just impacted all of us so much Erica so tell us how did Michelle Obama play a role in this so at the time um I was quite frustrated because I we were all kind of locked into our looks you know and I auditioned for the show with braids which for black women you know it's a temporary style like maybe a few weeks or a few months and because of that continuity my hair which I had done a a big chop um for or I wasn't able to wear my hair and so when I met Michelle Obama I was telling her how proud I was of her for wearing her natural hair into being seeing the change that we want to see in the world and I was like well I'm not able to do that and she said you tell whoever that I said that you can wear your hair however you want to wear your hair and ultimately that is the foundation of the crown act it's the ability to wear your hair how you see fit and all of it is considered professional or appropriate or something that we shouldn't be ashamed of so I'm so proud and just privileged to have been in a situation with so many people who have supported not only my journey but also I get so much to this day so many correspondences from DBL Nation saying you have changed the way that I feel about my hair you have changed the way that I walk out and represent myself in the world and I am just so proud to be a part of that change because all I can think of is when I needed someone to be that for me we had so few limited um examples of that so I'm proud well you're one of and she helped legislatively by the way that's right tomorrow we'll be sharing oh my favorite DBL moment oh no so stay tuned for that we'll be right back well done to see who New Yorkers will be voting for for president did any body say Eric B nobody said Eric B but that was I was I was hoping for somebody say Eric Eric be for president or Rock Kim or or or maybe uh you know somebody else but no there was there was a bunch of it was pretty pretty divided I mean it was you know probably the worst day of weather uh for the summer but it was I was surprised that it was as divided as it was I mean you know the this election is going to be I mean probably the craziest in history and we're coming off one that was really crazy we're coming off a two that were really crazy in the last eight years so it's uh I think it's going to be tight I am not a I'm not a betting man I I don't know how it's going to go but you know come November which seems like very close but also so far away Anything could happen at this point I think it's going to be tight what do you guys think like what what's the consensus what do you know you guys are the inside daily blast uh I will tell you m you're a d DC Insider I'm a full DC Insider DC in some years I live there my father there she's a DC we all have people that live places my God my how rude so excuse me thank you um I think the momentum is on kamla and walls I think that um JD Vance was the wrong pick I think he should have picked a woman maybe a Nancy mace from South Carolina um and I think he's scrambling and a little bit rattled and I wanted to ask you I know this is private but if you're free to share which candidate has your vote I uh I'm not sure I I've said I've said a lot about you know about this I've talked a lot about this um you know I I've turned into a one policy person totally and and uh you know I uh to be I never thought I would say that I I don't know I I I can't I can't really you know uh uh uh assistant coach Waltz and uh you know I don't know about I don't know I don't know some of the people that you know he talked about you know that he gets elated and excited knowing that Elon Omar is in uh in government I I don't know how she can make you excited or proud uh that she's a part of our government in any way shape or form uh obviously I've talked about uh Trump endlessly I might not vote I don't know I I don't know tot honest I don't know can I ask you a possibility of not voting is is in your head because I think a lot of people feel this way yeah I mean I think ultimately I'm GNA vote but a possibility of not voting is is a way of sort of protesting in a way but then if I don't vote can I complain I'm trying to figure it out I have time to figure it out I am putting in the work to figure it out I'm putting in the time and the energy to figure fured out more so than in the past uh way way way way more so than in the past I I know that if I Vote or I don't vote it'll be uh uh thought about considered and uh slept on and uh you know rinse and repeating all that I I I'm taking it very seriously app even if I don't vote I'm taking it seriously I appreciate that and even if we disagree on some things I appreciate the passion and the wellth thought educated motion of doing it and not just complete apathy so thank you for that one more question I'm sorry for hogging but do you think the mics of the presidential candidates should be muted if they do agree to debate I think that they went out of their way to mute the mics with Biden and I don't see why they wouldn't want to continue that uh uh with Kamala um you know I I I know why they wouldn't but you know they went you know all the rules and regulations were were dictated by uh the Biden Administration and his his crew and his team so why would they want to change it now um I know why you know I mean uh um you know but I I think I think to be totally honest you know the last de debate I thought it was the way a debate should be I don't think that it should be this tip fortat I don't think it should be this bullying I think it should be policies policies policies and I did say after that debate that I thought this is the way a debate should be and you know instead of interrupting and you know um you know getting into I call it snapping a snap contest it should be just like that and if if uh you know that's the way it was set up the first time they should run it back like that because I like the way that debate turned out even though uh you know a lot of people didn't like uh uh you know the way abide and perform but I like the temperature of it did the rules and regulations of it yeah agreed Michael and we just want to thank you for joining us like it you know that's great but if you want to sell it to people at large you got to make a lot of it right and how do you find a company that can make a lot of something you make a little of and make it taste just as good if not better wow because I actually I did a a blind tasting with my neighbors I've been feeding getting them this sauce every week for the last 25 years every Sunday and they uh I did a blind test tasting and they picked the one from the factory over the one that I just made on the store am that's really good you found the right people I don't go to the factory what I same time same place bye guys day e outbreak spreads in multiple States while a rare disease caused by mosquitoes kills one person in the US our very own Dr kohy is here to explain today's top health headlines kamla Harris's first sitdown interview as a Presidential nominee airs tonight with pressure building ahead of the November election what's at stake for her Michael Rapaport and Harry Hamlin will both be here live and Venice rolls out the red carpet for the stars of the new Beetlejuice movie oh my gosh get real no no y just stop this is a sh it's finally here drum roll welcome to DBL we got our one and only Dr Coley in the building hi guys my girl um okay so Dr Coley you know we are going to begin with some very scary diseases in fact they are making headlines including elisia outbreak that's now linked to B's head deli meat so far it has killed nine people so Dr Coley what is leria and what can we do to protect ourselves uh leria is a bacteria and it's all over nature you find it in soil you find it in animal feces but it can also cause food poisoning this is not just any kind of food poisoning this is the food poisoning from hell yeah so it is diarrhea it is vomiting it is fevers it is chills and then if it gets into your bloodstream it can cause septicemia it can even get into your central nervous system and your brain but the most people at risk are like pregnant women or those with weakened immune system but this is the biggest leria outbreak that we've had guys in over a decade and you find it in contaminated meats you can find it in raw cheeses and we really have to take some precautions if we want to minimize our exposure because most of us handle raw meat right at the grocery store and such so I tell my patients when you're buying meat always put it in a separate bag never put it in the same bag as your other groceries when you're cutting meat at home you want to wash your hands before of course but use a special cutting board and maybe even think about special knives for that meat so you're not contaminating your other food but also think about your produce cuz it's not just meat you can also see it in fruits and lettuce and other types of produce as well so really rinse that super well sometimes use a brush and sometimes people think if they're peeling something like an apple they don't have to rinse it cuz they're taking the peel off but we really encourage people to do that because it can pop up and it can make you pretty sick wow lord well one thing that I uh hate is mosquitoes because they love me so much and there are a number of mosquito born diseases going around um one is EE there's West Nile there's even something called sloth fever so talk to us about all of these yes uh mosquitoes love me too Erica and and so it's it's kind of interesting it's your body chemicals that attract them mosquitoes and so certain people just get bitten a lot but even if you're someone who doesn't get bitten by mosquitoes you have to pay attention cuz we're seeing a surge in a lot of these mosquito illnesses Dr fouchy in fact was just hospitalized with West Nile Virus really and he's going to be okay he didn't have any neurological involvement or anything like that but these are essentially what's called mosquito-born illnesses so the mosquito carries the illness to you usually from another host it doesn't spread human to human so that's the nice thing about it and most of us that are healthy will probably do okay with it we might have a flu like illness but some people it can get into the brain or the nervous system and if that happens there's a high risk of death there's even a chance of permanent neurological damage how soon would you get sick sorry to interrupt but this is concerning how soon would you get sick if you were um bit by mosquito depending on which virus it is but usually within about a week to two weeks you can start to see symptoms the lesson here don't get bitten by those mosquitoes and you that's why I don't go outside okay and you don't go into the woods you just stay in the city air conditioning no mosquitoes you so have you been bit since you've been in the studio Erica I arrest my case well you're making a joke but at summertime I love to take a walk around the lake in the evenings and guess when they're most active Dawn and dusk guess when they're active standing bodies of water so if you have a bird bath or you have a swimming pool you live near a lake that's you Sam it's my bird B I have a be my bird bath oh do you get a ton of mosquitoes yeah are you going to let her get away with saying B bath no she knows what a b bath is a shall with they need to drink water you want bees near you because they pollinate and sa her agriculture plant some flowers and move them away I did she did I did you did did so the bees are pollinating but the mosquitoes are also breeding around the water so ladies when you go out into your backyard make sure you spray your kids or spray yourself with insect repellent with DEET or you can even put lemon eucalyptus oil on your SK do that's right oh yeah wow but it's just as important as that sunscreen and we don't take it seriously enough but we really have to pay pay attention because these viruses can I don't think I've ever been in a store that sold Lemon Eucalyptus no you get where what is that like Whole Foods you can get you can Sprouts you can pretty much go anywhere and you can get some essential I use Vick oh vix vi vi yeah I've been using vix for a while oh there is eucalyptus in vix that's smart like a menthol kind of thing is an 9ye old black woman if know that is some old school right the Vick put on your yeah put on chest to sleep all right all right switching gear here that was hysterical uh Eli Lily has started selling its weight loss medication called vix no I'm kidding called Z bound and it's direct to Consumers with a prescription but instead of coming in those injector pens it's going to be a single dose vial that you have to fill and inject on your own is that a good idea I know diabetics do but I mean tell me about that I'm kind of liking this idea and I'll tell you why they're being pressured to make this because of all the compounded knockoffs that are out there the fact that their prescription drug in the pre-filled pens so it used to be a pen that you just you know you click into your thigh and you inject those are more expensive to manufacturer so the cost was $1,000 to $1,400 a month which was prohibitive so these single injection vials which will hopefully prevent overdoses because it's just one dose um are much cheaper $399 a month for the lowest dose and they provide the same sort of benefits you can also change the dose so let's say you don't want 5 milligrams you want 2 and a half milligrams I as a doctor could tell the patient to inject half but the question for you guys that I have is would you feel comfortable drawing up something and injecting yourself here's the thing anyone who's gone through IVF you know that this is just part for the course but I would say one thing that was very helpful for me was having a stationary place where I did all of my injections and everything and also the only thing about the needles are depending on where they're coming from sometimes they have um air in them before use sometimes they don't so it is important to actually push the air in before you're inting yeah so that you're you know not it is dangerous if you inject air into your blood vessel not so much into the fat but into the blood vessel can cause a cardiac arrest so but but the idea here is to take the drug and make it more accessible to people even if that means educating them more but that education piece I cannot emphasize enough and also making sure our older patients who might have a Tremor or some other type of problem dexterity issue are able to use it can we not get a pill get a pill so there is a pill okay yeah there is a pill we get it okay it's only for diabetics it has been approv for weight loss yet got it got it but I think weight loss drugs are here to stay I think injections are here to stay especially with IVF and weight loss and we have a cholesterol injection that I use all the time so I think we need to not be fearful of the needles and just kind of embrace the idea of treating ourselves well said Dr FY and I also heard you have an announcement please tell us is it about me oh man hi just let me know if you want me to turn his fair so the announcement is to be like Al and go ahead and schedule your flu shot and your Co shot good job Al yes are they available the new Co one so they got it greenlighted by the FDA and they will be on the shelves in the next couple weeks and the flu shots are going to be there starting next week so I I can't emphasize this enough guys after everything we went through during the pandemic I know we're tired of the vaccines but let's just think of them as something we do every year just like we get our kids back to school we get those vaccines and we keep ourselves healthy well Dr Coy well said of course her announcement will be about Republicans have been criticizing KLA Harris for not sitting down and doing an interview with the Press well tonight Harris and her running mate Tim Walls are going to be interviewed by CNN's Dana Bash the interview will Air in prime time at 9 p.m. Eastern on CNN now there is a lot of stake in this interview and a lot of Republicans including Trump say she's going to flunk the difficult questions so what do you think about this and what questions do you want to hear uh Harris answer let's start with you Jeff um I kind of wish it was live I know that's kind of the sentiment out there because now it seems like politics is more about Optics than it is their policies right but I wouldn't like to because she hasn't spoken live yet so I'd like to see her go out there by herself when you have someone with you like Tim Walls which is fine it is kind of a crutch right when you're out there by yourself it's kind of just one-on-one with the interviewer and I hope they do a good job of a Level Playing Field because it is CNN interview but I would have like to see her do it live and do it by herself since we haven't heard from her yet yeah so weird this whole agreeing with Jeff thing um I will I will say this very quickly um do I think she can handle an interview uh by herself and perfectly live yes I understand why she's doing it live to tape and with Tim because it's a crutch I think would move the needle more if she had done it by herself and live I really I'm not saying she couldn't I'm saying I I get why she's doing it I understand but it really would have made some Independents feel much more comfortable she can handle the questions alone she can handle the questions and exactly what I said I know I'm just simply saying I agree with you yeah I don't I don't find this I understand optically what it looks like but I think that what the Harris Waltz campaign has doing very well is actually taking control of the campaign strategy I think that there are things that people are asking for and when the other side is doing the most it appears that you're doing the least um but that's really not the case in my opinion obviously we've already established that no one at least here believes that she's unable to answer the T questions but I think in terms of people saying we don't know her the other side of that is we don't know W either we don't know them right so them coming in a united front I believe is a campaign strategy all right and let's just switch gears because on the Lighter Side Barack Obama is joking about suit gate he posted this sidebyside photo showing him and Harris wearing tan suits commenting how it started how it's going 10 years later and it's still a good look what do you think about this Allan why do you think it's such a big deal I mean I I look back almost nostalgically at that like remember those problems who knew that Co January 6th and all these things like that was all Fox had to go on was like his suit and that used to be a big argument and you know honestly people are going to uh wait their time revenge is a dish best served cold and Obama took those arrows when uh you know when he was in the presidency and really couldn't fire back back but now as a private citizen former president he is going to take his shots I'm sure that was annoying and I'm sure the nitpicking that we saw with him as uh not only the first president the first African-American President we uh you know I I don't care what anybody says he dealt with more and had to say less or nothing than anybody that except for maybe our first uh woman of color uh president will and the the reason we're sitting here discussing whether she'll be able to handle an interview on her own uh when we've been subject to a parade of foolishness from uh you know certain people on both sides but the idea that she can't handle it as a former prosecutor what do you think she's going to do why start babbling yeah it is her first interview I mean it is a legit question I do I I do believe that she's going to do hundreds of interviews by herself but you have understand they're they're on they're on a clock though they they got they got into this game to to the race almost three and a half years late they have to kind of be like this is me and this is my running we just saw the convention we got walls I'd like to see just her right now coming up on DBL Erica is going to share one of her favorite moments from the last seven years of DBL next a restaurant and I'm going to [Music] welcome back this week we are celebrating our time on DBL together and looking back at some of our favorite moments Erica it's your turn today so what special moment stood out to you the special moment that I had at DBL had to have been my natural hair Journey mhm there was a moment on daily blast live where we were talking about Biola Davis I got tired of always celebrating movies that didn't have me in it I don't mean me Viola I mean me as a black woman stop taming us and that stuck with me so much because I remember watching her on how to get away away with murder when she took her wig off and I was like wow I want to be a part of the change that I want to see in media today living out my natural hair Journey on live TV hasn't always been easy but I found it necessary I had to learn how to be vulnerable and surrender to my hair it's been a wild ride that included gaining the confidence to star in my own music [Music] videoen radi now everyone sitting here on this panel and in the studio we're so proud to share this moment with you oh my gosh thank you oh my go oh my my gosh Erica okay so you spoke about Viola Davis and how she impacted you but you also said your mom changed some things in your head tell me about that yeah I think um it's just important when I said the natural hair Journey when I was talking about it y'all have to remember this was in 2019 so it was before the social justice movement and we were just learning what the crown Act was and shout out to Dr AA B asamoa for leading that um and it was really about being able to wear our hair professionally as people of color in any way that we saw fit and at the time natural hair was not prevalent on television and it was something that I wanted to be free to be me and my mother had always encouraged me that I don't have to hide behind other things in order to feel like I'm beautiful and she's always you know modeled that for me and I really appreciate her for that Dr cob beautiful it's great that we're doing this because when I was asked to prepare my favorite memory it was this seriously I mean it would it just impacted all of us so much Erica so tell us how did Michelle Obama play a role in this so at the time um I was quite frustrated because I we were all kind of locked into our looks you know and I auditioned for the show with braids which for black women you know it's a temporary style like maybe a few weeks or a few months and because of that continuity my hair which I had done a a big chop um for I wasn't able to wear my hair and so when I met Michelle Obama I was telling her how proud I was of her for wearing her natural hair into being seeing the change that we want to see in the world and I was like well I'm not able to do that and she said you tell whoever that I said that you can wear your hair however you want to wear your hair and ultimately that is the foundation of the Crown act it's the ability to wear your hair how you see fit and all of it is considered professional or appropriate or something that we shouldn't be ashamed of wow so I'm so proud and just privileged to have been in a situation with so many people who have supported not only my journey but also I get so much to this day so many correspondences from DBL Nation saying you have changed the way that I feel about my hair you have changed the way that I walk out and represent myself in the world and I am just so proud to be a part of that change because all I can think of is when I needed someone to be that for me we had so few limited um examples of that so I'm proud well you're one of and she helped legislatively by the way right tomorrow Makes You unique I love it man now you did something really cool you recently pulled the streets of New York to see who new New Yorkers will be voting for for president did anybody say Eric B nobody said Eric B but that was I was I was hoping for somebody to say Eric Eric B for president or Rock Kim or or or maybe uh you know somebody else but no there was it was a bunch of it was pretty pretty divided I mean it was you know probably the worst day of weather uh for the summer but it was I was surprised that it was as divided as it was I mean you know the this election is going to be I mean probably the craziest in history and we're coming off one that was really crazy we're coming off at two that we're really crazy in the last eight years so it's uh I think it's going to be tight I am not a I'm not a betting man I I don't know how it's going to go but you know come November which seems like very close but also so far away Anything could happen at this point I think it's going to be tight what do you guys think like what what's the consensus what do you know you guys are the Insiders daily blast they saying uh I will tell you my D DC Insider I'm a full DC Insider hav been a DC in some years I live there father there she's a DC we all have people that live places God how rude EXC me thank you um I think the momentum is on kamla and walls I think that um JD Vance was the wrong pick I think he should have picked a woman maybe a Nancy mace from South Carolina um and I think he's scrambling and a little bit rattled and I wanted to ask you I know this is private but if you're free to share which candidate has your vote I uh I'm not sure I I've said I've said a lot about you know about this I've talked a lot about this um you know I I've turned into a one policy person totally and and uh you know I uh to be I never thought I would say that I I don't know I I I can't I can't really you know uh uh uh assistant coach Waltz and uh you know I don't know about I don't know I don't know some of the people that you know he talked about you know that he gets elated and excited knowing that Elon Omar is in uh in government I I don't know how she can make you excited or proud uh that she's a part of our government in any way shape or form uh obviously I've talked about uh Trump endlessly I might not vote I don't know I I don't know be totally honest don't know can I ask you possibility of not voting is is in your head because I think a lot of people feel this way yeah I mean I think ultimately I'm gonna vote but a possibility of not voting I is is a way of sort of protesting in a way but then if I don't vote can I complain I'm trying to figure it out I have time to figure it out I am putting in the work to figure f it out I'm putting in the time and the energy to figure it out more so than in the past uh way way way way more so than in the past I I know that if I Vote or I don't vote it'll be uh uh thought about considered and uh slept on and uh you know rinse and repeating all that I I I'm taking it very seriously even if I don't vote I'm taking it seriously I appreciate that and even if we disagree on some things I appreciate the passion and the wellth thought educated motion of doing it and not just complete apathy so thank you for that one more question I'm sorry for hogging but do you think the mics of the presidential candidates should be muted if they do agree to debate I think that they went out of their way to mute the mics with Biden and I don't see why they wouldn't want to continue that uh uh with Kamala um you know I I I know why they wouldn't but you know they went you know all the rules and regulations were were dictated by uh the Biden Administration and his his crew and his team so why would they want to change it now um I know why you know I mean uh um you know but I I think I think to be totally honest you know the last de debate I thought it was the way a debate should be I don't think that it should be this tip fortat I don't think it should be this bullying I think it should be policies policies policies and I did say after that debate that I thought this is the way debate should be and you know instead of interrupting and you know um you know getting into I call it snapping a snap contest it should be just like that and if if uh you know that's the way it was set up the first time they should run it back like that because I like the way that debate turned out even though uh you know a lot of people didn't like uh uh you know the way abide and performed but I like the temperature of to me they go oh God I love your wife where can I get your sauce so I mean it just one of those things where like I had to do it I had no choice I had to bring it out wow well now that it it is out in that Zeitgeist is it too much because are people just constantly asking you to make it for them is it like a little overwhelming well you know I I I found a company that could make it at scale I mean look the big thing about if you make something on the stove at home and people like it you know that's great but if you want to sell it to people at large you got to make a lot of it right and how do you find a company that can make a lot of something you make a little of and make it taste just as good if not better wow because I actually I did a a blind tasting with my neighbors I've been feeding them this sauce every week for the last 25 years every Sunday and they uh I did a blind test tasting and they picked the one from the factory over the one that I just made on the am that's really good you found the right people I don't go to the factory what I do is I just make one jar and sell it for $58,000 no buys it no one is buying less of a market no one buys that it's rotting we had it all season all right people will soon be able to buy the sauce and it even comes with this downloadable recipe and an instructional video so there's some hairy in there is there one specific step in is here to explain today's top health headlines kamla Harris's first sitdown interview as a Presidential nominee airs tonight with pressure building ahead of the November election what's at stake for her Michael Rapaport and Harry Hamlin will both be here live and Venice rolls out the red carpet for the stars of the new Beetlejuice movie oh my gosh get real no y just stop this is a sham it's finally here drum roll welcome to DBL we got our one and only Dr Coley in the building yes hi guys my girl um okay so Dr Coley you know we are going to begin with some very scary diseases in fact they are making headlines including a leria outbreak that's now linked to B's head deli meat so far it has killed nine people so Dr Coley what is leria and what can we do to protect ourselves uh leria is a bacteria and it's all over nature you find it in soil you find it in animal feces but it can also cause food poisoning this is not just any kind of food poisoning this is the food poisoning from hell so it is diarrhea it is vomiting it is fevers it is chills and then if it gets into your bloodstream it can cause septicemia it can even get into your central nervous system and your brain but the most people at risk are like pregnant women or those with weakened immune system but this is the biggest leria outbreak that we've had guys in over a decade and you find it in contaminated meats you can find it in raw cheeses and we really have to take some precautions if we want to minimize our exposure because most of us handle raw meat right at the grocery store and such so I tell my patient Pati when you're buying meat always put it in a separate bag never put it in the same bag as your other groceries when you're cutting meat at home you want to wash your hands before of course but use a special cutting board and maybe even think about special knives for that meat so you're not contaminating your other food but also think about your produce because it's not just meat you can also see it in fruits and lettuce and other types of produce as well so really rinse that super well sometimes use a brush and sometimes people think if they're peeling something like an apple they don't have to rinse it cuz they're taking the peel off but we really encourage people to do that because it can pop up and it can make you pretty sick wow lord well one thing that I uh hate is mosquitoes because they love me so much and there are a number of mosquito born diseases going around um one is EE there's West Nile there's even something called sloth fever so talk to us about all of these yes uh mosquitoes love me too Erica and and so it's it's kind of interesting it's your body chemicals that attract the mosquitoes and so certain people just get bitten a lot but even if you're someone who doesn't get bitten by mosquitoes you have to pay attention cuz we're seeing a surge in a lot of these mosquito illnesses Dr fouchy in fact was just hospitalized with West Nile Virus really and he's going to be okay he didn't have any neurological involvement or anything like that but these are essentially what's called mosquito born illnesses so the mosquito carries the illness to you usually from another host it doesn't spread human to human so that's the nice thing about it and most of us that are healthy will probably do okay with it we might have a flu like Illness but some people it can get into the brain or the nervous system and if that happens there's a high risk of death there's even a chance of permanent neurological damage how soon would you get sick sorry to interrupt but this is concerning how soon would you get sick if you were um bit by mosquito depending on which virus it is but usually within about a week to two weeks you can start to see symptoms the lesson here don't get bitten by those mosquitoes and you know that's why I don't go outside okay and you don't go into the woods you just stay in the city air conditioning no mosquitoes you are so been bit since you've been in the studio Erica I rest my case well you're making a joke but at summertime I love to take a walk around the lake in the evenings and guess when they're most active Dawn and dusk guess when they're active standing bodies of water so if you have a bird bath or you have a swimming pool you live near a lake that's you Sam it's my bird bath I have a my bird bath do you get a ton of mosquitoes yeah are you going to let her get away with saying B bath no she knows what a b bath is a shallow with they need to drink water I have a video near you because they pollinate and sa her agriculture plant some flowers and move them away I did she did I did you did so the bees are pollinating but the mosquitoes are also breeding around the water so ladies when you go out into your backyard make sure you spray your kids or spray yourself with insect repellent with de or you can even put lemon eucalyptus oil on your SK that's what I do is that right oh yeah wow but it's just as important as that sunscreen and we don't take it seriously enough but we really have to pay attention because these I don't think I've ever been in a store that sold Lemon Eucalyptus no you get where what is that like Whole Foods you can get you can Sprouts you can pretty much go anywhere you can get some essential o I use vix oh vix vix VI yeah I've been using vix for a while oh there is eucalyptus in vix that's smart like a menthol kind of thing ER is an 89y old black woman if know that is some old school right the Vick put on your yeah put on your chest go to sleep all right all right switching gear here that was hysterical uh Eli Lily has started selling its weight loss medication called vix no I'm kidding called Z bound and it's direct to Consumers with a prescription but instead of coming in those injector pens it's going to be a single dose vial that you have to fill and inject on your own is that a good idea I know diabetics do but I mean tell me about that I'm kind of liking this idea and I'll tell you why they're being pressured to make this because of all the compounded knockoffs that are out there the fact that prescription drug in the pre-filled pen so it used to be a pen that you just you know you click into your thigh and you inject those are more expensive to manufacture so the cost was $1,000 to $1,400 a month which was prohibitive so these single injection vials which will hopefully prevent overdoses because it's just one dose um are much cheaper $399 a month for the lowest dose and they provide the same sort of benefits you can also change the dose so let's say you don't want 5 milligrams you want two and a half milligrams I as a doctor could tell the patient to inject half but the question for you guys that I have is would you feel comfortable drawing up something and injecting yourself here's the thing anyone who's gone through IVF you know that this is just part for the course but I would say one thing that was very helpful for me was having a stationary place where I did all of my injections and everything and also the only thing about the needles are depending on where they're coming from sometimes they have um air in them before you use them sometimes they don't so it is important to actually push the air in before you're injecting yeah so that you're you know it is dangerous if you inject air into your blood vessel not so much into the fat but into the blood vessel can cause a cardiac arrest so but but the idea here is to take the drug and make it more accessible to people even if that means educating them more but that education piece I cannot emphasize enough and also making sure our older patients who might have a Tremor or some other type of problem dexterity issue are able to use it can we not get a pill get a pill so there is a pill okay yeah there is a pill mind we get it okay it's only for diabetics it has been approv for weight loss yet got it got it but I think weight loss drugs are here to stay I think injections are here to stay especially with IVF and weight loss and we have a cholesterol injection that I use all the time so I think we need to not be fearful of the needles and just kind of embrace the idea of treating ourselves well said dry and I also heard you have an announcement please tell us is it about me oh man hi just let me know if you want me to turn his fair so the announcement is to be like Al and go ahead and schedule your flu shot and your Co shot good job yes are they available the new Co one so they got it greenlighted by the FDA and they will be on the shelves in the next couple of weeks and the flu shots are going to be there starting next week so I I can't emphasize this enough guys after everything we went through during the pandemic I know we're tired of the vaccines but let's just think of them as something we do every year just like we get our kids back to school we get those vaccines and we keep ourselves healthy well said Dr Coy well said down and doing an interview with the Press well tonight Harris and her running mate Tim Walls are going to be interviewed by CNN's Dana Bash the interview will Air in prime time at 900 p.m. Eastern on CNN now there is a lot of stake in this interview and a lot of Republicans including Trump say she's going to flunk the difficult questions so what do you think about this and what questions do you want to hear uh Harris answer let's start with you Jeff um I kind of wish it was live I know that's kind of the sentiment out there because now it seems like politics is more about Optics than it is their policies right but I wouldn't like to because she hasn't spoken live yet so I'd like to see her go out there by herself when you have someone with you like Tim Walls which is fine it is kind of a crutch right when you're out there by yourself it's kind of just one-on-one with the interviewer and I hope they do a good job of a Level Playing Field because it is CNN interview but I would have like to see her do it live and do it by herself since we haven't heard from her yet yeah I so weird this agreeing with Jeff thing um I will I will say this very quickly um do I think she can handle an interview uh by herself and perfectly live yes I understand why she's doing it live to tape and with Tim because it's a crutch I think would move the needle more if she had done it by herself and live I really I'm not saying she couldn't I'm saying I I get why she's doing it I understand but it really would have made some Independents feel much more comfortable she can handle the questions alone she can handle the questions and exactly what I say I know I'm just simply saying I agree with you yeah I don't I don't find this I understand optically what it looks like but I think that what the Harris Waltz campaign is doing very well is actually taking control of the campaign strategy I think that there are things that people are asking for and when the other side is doing the most it appears that you're doing the least um but that's really not the case in my opinion obviously we've already established that no one at least here believes that she's unable to answer the tough questions but I think in terms of people saying we don't know her the other side of that is we don't know walse either we don't know them right so them coming in a united front I believe is a campaign strategy all right and let's just switch gears because on the Lighter Side Barack Obama is joking about suit gate he posted this sidebyside photo showing him and Harris wearing tan suits commenting how it started how it's going 10 years later and it's still a good look what do you think about this Alan why do you think it's such a big deal I mean I I look back almost nostalgically at that like remember those problems who knew that Co January 6th and all these things like that was all Fox had to go on was like his suit and that used to be a big argument and you know honestly people are going to uh wait their time revenge is a dish best served cold and Obama took those arrows when uh you know when he was in the presidency and really couldn't fire back but now as a private citizen former president he is going to take his shots I'm sure that was annoying and I'm sure the nitpicking that we saw with him as uh not only the first president the first African-American President we uh you know I I don't care what anybody says he dealt with more and had to say less or nothing than anybody that except for maybe our first uh woman of color uh president will and the the reason we're sitting here discussing whether she'll be able to handle an interview on her own uh when we've been subject to a parade of foolishness from uh you know certain people on both sides but the idea that she can't handle it as a former prosecutor what do you think she's going to do not do start babbling yeah it is her first interview I mean it is a legit question I do I I do believe that she's going to do hundreds of interviews by herself but you have to understand there they're on they're on a clock though they they got they got into this game to the to the race almost three and a half years late they have to kind of be like this is me and this is my running M just saw the convention we got walls I'd like to see just her right now coming up on DBL Erica is going to share one of her favorite moments from the last seven years of DBL next [Music] welcome back this week we are celebrating our time on DBL together and looking back at some of our favorite moments Erica it's your turn today so what special moment stood out to you the special moment that I had at DBL had to have been my natural hair Journey mhm there was a moment on daily blast live where we were talking about Biola Davis I got tired of always celebrating movies that didn't have me in it I don't mean me Viola I mean me as a black woman stop tting and that stuck with me so much because I remember watching her on how to get away with murder when she took her wig off and I was like wow I want to be a part of the change that I want to see in media today living out my natural hair Journey on live TV hasn't always been easy but I found it necessary I had to learn how to be vulnerable and surrender to my hair it's been a wild ride that included gaining the confidence to star in my own music [Music] video everyone sitting here on this panel and in the studio are so proud to share this moment with you oh my gosh thank you oh my gosh Erica okay so you spoke about Viola Davis and how she impacted you but you also said your mom changed some things in your head tell me about that yeah I think um it's just important when I said the natural hair Journey when I was talking about it y'all have to remember this was in 2019 so it was before the social justice movement and we were just learning what the crown Act was and shout out to Dr AA asamoa for leading that um and it was really about being able to wear our hair professionally as people of color in any way that we saw fit and at the time natural hair was not prevalent on television and it was something that I wanted to be free to be me and my mother had always encouraged me that I don't have to hide behind other things in order to feel like I'm beautiful and she's always you know modeled that for me and I really appreciate her for that cob beautiful story it's great that we're doing this because when I was asked to prepare my favorite memory it was this seriously I it would it just impacted all of us so much Erica so tell us how did Michelle Obama play a role in this so at the time um I was quite frustrated because I we were all kind of locked into our looks you know and I auditioned for the show with braids which for black women you know it's a temporary style like maybe a few weeks or a few months and because of that continuity my hair which I had done a a big chop um for I wasn't able to wear my hair and so when I met Michelle Obama I was telling her how proud I was of her for wearing her natural hair and being seeing the change that we want to see in the world and I was like well I'm not able to do that and she said you tell whoever that I said that you can wear your hair however you want we your hair and ultimately that is the foundation of the crown act it's the ability to wear your hair how you see fit and all of it is considered professional or appropriate or something that we shouldn't be ashamed of w so I'm so proud and just privileged to have been in a situation with so many people who have supported not only my journey but also I get so much to this day so many correspondences from DBL Nation saying you have changed the way that I feel about my hair you have changed the way that I walk out and represent myself in the world and I am just so proud to be a part of that change because all I can think of is when I needed someone to be that for me we had so few limited um examples of that York to see who New Yorkers will be voting for for president did anybody say Eric B nobody said Eric B but that was I was I was hoping for somebody say Eric Eric be for president or Rock Kim or or or maybe uh you know somebody else but no there was it was a bunch of it was pretty pretty divided I mean it was you know probably the worst day of weather uh for the summer but it was I was surprised that it was as divided as it was I mean you know the this election is going to be I mean probably the craziest in history and we're coming off one that was really crazy we're coming off a two that were really crazy in the last eight years so it's uh I think it's going to be tight I am not a I'm not a betting man I I don't know how it's going to go but you know come November which seems like very close but also so far away Anything could happen at this point I think it's going to be tight what do you guys think like what what's the consensus what do you know you guys are the Insiders daily blast what they saying uh I will tell you m you're a d DC Insider I'm a full DC Insider been DC in some years I live there father she's a DC we all have people that live places God my how rude EXC me thank you um I think the momentum is on kamla and walls I think that um jie Vance was the wrong pick I think he should have picked a woman maybe a Nancy mace from South Carolina and I think he's scrambling and a little bit rattled and I wanted to ask you I know this is private but if you're free to share which candidate has your vote I uh I'm not sure I I've said I've said a lot about you know about this I've talked a lot about this um you know I I've turned into a one policy person totally and and uh you know I uh to be I never thought I would say that I I don't know I I I can't I can't really you know uh uh uh assistant coach Waltz and uh you know I don't know about I don't know I don't know some of the people that you know he talked about you know that he gets elated and excited knowing that Elon Omar is in uh in government I I don't know how she can make you excited or proud uh that she's a part of our government in any way shapee or form uh obviously I've talked about uh Trump endlessly I might not vote I don't know I I don't know to be totally honest I don't know can I ask you possibility of not voting is is in your head because I think a lot of people feel this way yeah I mean I think ultimately I'm G to vote but a possibility of not voting I is is a way of sort of protesting in a way but then if I don't vote can I complain I'm trying to figure it out I have time to figure it out I am putting in the work to figure it out I'm putting in the time and the energy to figure it out more so than in the past uh way way way way more so than in the past I I know that if I Vote or I don't vote it'll be uh uh thought about considered and uh uh slept on and uh you know rinse and repeating all that I I I'm taking it very seriously app even if I don't vote I'm taking it seriously I appreciate that and even if we disagree on some things I appreciate the passion and the well thought educated motion of doing it and not just complete apathy so thank you for that one more question I'm sorry for hogging but do you think the mics of the presidential candidates should be muted if they do agree to debate I think that they went out of their way to mute the mics with Biden and I don't see why they wouldn't want to continue that uh uh with Kamala um you know I I I know why they wouldn't but you know they went you know all the rules and regulations were were dictated by uh the Biden Administration and his his crew and his team so why would they want to change it now um I know why you know I mean uh um you know but I I think I think to be totally honest you know the last de debate I thought it was the way a debate should be I don't think that it should be this tip fortat I don't think it should be this bullying I think it should be policies polic policies and I did say after that debate that I thought this is the way a debate should be and you know instead of interrupting and you know um you know getting into a I call it snapping a snap contest it should be just like that and if if uh you know that's the way it was set up the first time they should run it back like that because I like the way that debate turned out even though uh you know a lot of people didn't like uh uh you know the way a Biden performed but I like the temperature of it and the rules and regulations of it yeah agreed Michael we just want to thank you for joining to make it for them is it like a little overwhelming well you know I I I found a company that could make it at scale I mean look the big thing about if you make something on the stove at home and people like it you know that's great but if you want to sell it to people at large you you got to make a lot of it right and how do you find a company that can make a lot of something you make a little of and make it taste just as good if not better wow because I actually I did a a blind tasting with my neighbors I've been feeding them this sauce every week for the last 25 years every Sunday and they uh I did a blind tastic tasting and they picked the one from the factory over the one that I just made on the store am that's really good you found the right see I don't go to the factory what I do is I just make one jar and sell it for $58,000 no one buys it no one is buying that less of a market no one buys that it's rotting in the back we had it all season all right people will soon same place bye guys have a good day he outbreak spreads in multiple States while a rare disease caused by mosquitoes kills one person in the US our very own Dr kohley is here to explain today's top health headlines kamla Harris's first sitdown interview as a Presidential nominee ears tonight with pressure building ahead of the November election what's at stake for her Michael Rapaport and Harry Hamlin will both be here live and Venice rolls out the red carpet for the stars of the new Beetlejuice movie oh my gosh get real no y just stop this is a sham it's finally here drum roll welcome to DBL we got our one and only Dr in the building yes hi guys girl um okay so Dr Coley you know we are going to begin with some very scary diseases in fact they are making headlines including a leria outbreak that's now linked to B's head deli meat so far it has killed nine people so Dr Coley what is leria and what can we do to protect ourselves uh leria is a bacteria and it's all over nature you find it in soil you find it in animal feces but it can also cause food poisoning this is not just any kind of food poisoning this is the food poisoning from hell so it is diarrhea it is vomiting it is fevers it is chills and then if it gets into your bloodstream it can cause septicemia it can even get into your central nervous system and your brain but the most people at risk are like pregnant women or those with weak IND immune system but this is the biggest leria outbreak that we've had guys in over a decade and you find it in contaminated meats you can find it in raw cheeses and we really have to take some precautions if we want to minimize our exposure because most most of us handle raw meat right at the grocery store and such so I tell my patients when you're buying meat always put it in a separate bag never put it in the same bags your other groceries when you're cutting meat at home you want to wash your hands before of course but use a special cutting board and maybe even think about special knives for that meat so you're not contaminating your other food but also think about your produce cuz it's not just meat you can also see it in fruits and lettuce and other types of produce as well so really rinse that super well sometimes use a brush and sometimes people think if they're peeling something like an apple they don't have to rinse it cuz they're taking the peel off but we really encourage people to do that because it can pop up and it can make you pretty sick wow lord well one thing that I uh hate is mosquitoes because they love me so much and there are a number of mosquito born diseases going around um one is EE there's West Nile there's even something called sloth fever so talk to us about all of these yeah uh mosquitoes love me too Erica and and so it's it's kind of interesting it's your body chemicals that attract the mosquitoes and so certain people just get bitten a lot but even if you're someone who doesn't get bitten by mosquitoes you have to pay attention because we're seeing a surge in a lot of these mosquito illnesses Dr fouchi in fact was just hospitalized with West Nile Virus really and he's going to be okay he didn't have any neurological involvement or anything like that but these are essentially what's called mosquito born illnesses so the mosquito carries the illness to you usually from another host it doesn't spread human to human so that's the nice thing about it and most of us that are healthy will probably do okay with it we might have a flu like Illness but some people it can get into the brain or the nervous system and if that happens there's a high risk of death there's even a chance of permanent neurological damage how soon would you get sick sorry to interrupt but this is concerning how soon would you get sick if you were um bit by mosquito depending on which virus it is but usually within about a week to two weeks you can start to see symptoms we week so the lesson here don't get Mitten by those mosquitoes and you know that's why I don't go outside okay you go into the woods you just stay in the city air conditioning no mosquitoes have you been bit since you've been in the studio Erica I rest my case well you're making a joke but at summertime I love to take a walk around the lake in the evenings and guess when they're most active Dawn and dusk guess when they're active standing bodies of water so if you have a bird bath or you have a swimming pool you live near a lake that's you Sam that's my bird bath a beath my bird bath oh do you get a ton of mosquitoes yeah are you going to let her get away with saying be bath no she knows what a bee bath is a shallow with rock they need to drink water I have a video why you want bees near you because they pollinate and save our agriculture out plant some flowers and move them away I did she did I did you did so the bees are pollinating but the mosquitoes are also breeding around the water so ladies when you go out into your backyard make sure you spray your kids or spray yourself with insect repellent with deep or you can even put lemon eucalyptus oil on your SK that's I do is that right oh yeah wow but it's just as important is that sunscreen and we don't take it seriously enough but we really have to pay attention because these viruses can I don't think I've ever been in a store that sold lemon eukalyptus no you get where what is that like Whole Foods you can get you can Sprouts you can pretty much go anywhere and you can get some essential oil I use vix oh vix vix vix yeah I've been using vix for a while oh there is eucalyptus in vix that's smart menol kind of thing ER is an 89y old black woman if you didn't know that is some old school right the Vick put on put on your chest go to sleep all right all right switching gear here that was hysterical uh Eli Lily has started selling its weight loss medication called vix no I'm kidding Called Death bound and it's direct to Consumers with a prescription but instead of coming in those injector pens it's going to be a single dose vial that you have to fill and inject on your own is that a good idea I know diabetics do but I mean tell me about that I'm kind of liking this idea and I'll tell you why they're being pressured to make this because of all the compounded knockoffs that are out there the fact that their prescription drug in the pre-filled pen so it used to be a pen that you just you know you click into your thigh and you inject those are more expensive to manufacture so the cost was $1,000 to $1,400 a month which was prohibitive so these single injection vials which will hopefully prevent overdoses because it's just one dose um are much cheaper $399 a month for the lowest dose and they provide the same sort of benefits you can also change the dose so let's say you don't want five Mig you want 2 and half Mig I as a doctor could tell the patient to inject half but the question for you guys that I have is would you feel comfortable drawing up something and injecting yourself here's the thing anyone who's gone through IVF you know that this is just part for the course but I would say one thing that was very helpful for me was having a stationary place where I did all of my injections and everything and also the only thing about the needles are depending on where they're coming from some sometimes they have um air in them before you use them and sometimes they don't so it is important to actually push the air in before you're injecting yeah so that you're you know not it is dangerous if you inject air into your blood vessel not so much into the fat but into the blood vessel can cause a cardiac arrest so but but the idea here is to take the drug and make it more accessible to people even if that means educating them more but that education piece I cannot emphasize enough and also make Mak sure our older patients who might have a Tremor or some other type of problem dexterity issue are able to use it can we not get a pill get a pill so there is a pill okay yeah there is a pill we get it okay it's only for diabetics it hasn't been approved for weight loss yet got it got it but but I think weight loss drugs are here to stay I think injections are here to stay especially with IVF and weight loss and we have a cholesterol injection that I use all the time so I think we need to not be fearful of the needles and just kind of embrace the idea of treating ourselves well said dry and I also heard you have an announcement please tell us is it about me oh man just let me know if you want me to turn his chair so the announcement is to be like Al and go ahead and schedule your flu shot and your Co shot good job Al yes are they available the new covid one so they got it greenlighted by the FDA and they will be on the shelves in the next couple weeks and the flu shots are going to be there starting next week so I I can't emphasize this enough guys after everything we went through during the pandemic I know we're tired of the vaccine but let's just think of them as something we do every year just like we get our kids back to school we get those vaccines and we keep ourselves healthy Dr down and doing an interview with the Press well tonight Harris and her running mate Tim Walls are going to be interviewed by CNN's Dana Bash the interview will Air in prime time at 900 p.m. Eastern on CNN now there is a lot of stake in this interview and a lot of Republicans including Trump say she's going to flunk the difficult questions so what do you think about this and what questions do you want to hear from uh Harris answer let's start with you Jeff um I kind of wish it was live I know that's kind of the sentiment out there because now it seems like politics is more about Optics than it is their policies right but I wouldn't like to because she hasn't spoken live yet so I'd like to see her go out there by herself when you have someone with you like Tim Walls which is fine it is kind of a crutch right when you're out there by yourself it's kind of just one-on-one with the interviewer and I hope they do a good job of a Level Playing Field because it is CNN interview but I would have like to see her do it live and do it by yourself since we haven't heard from her yet yeah I so weird this whole agreeing with Jeff thing um I will I will say this very quickly um do I think she can handle an interview uh by herself and perfectly live yes I understand why she's doing it live to tape and with Tim because it's a crutch I think would move the needle more if she had done it by herself and live I really I'm not saying she couldn't I'm saying I get why she's doing it I understand but it really would have made some Independence feel much more comfortable she can handle the questions alone she can handle the questions and exactly what I said I know I'm just simply saying I agree with you yeah I don't I don't find this I understand optically what it looks like but I think that what the haris Walt's campaign is doing very well is actually taking control of the campaign strategy I think that there are things that people are asking for and when the other side is doing the most it appears that you're doing the least um but that's really not the case in my opinion obviously we've already established that no one at least here believes that she's unable to answer the tough questions but I think in terms of people saying we don't know her the other side of that is we don't know wals either we don't know them right so them coming in a united front I believe is a campaign strategy all right and let's just switch gears because on the Lighter Side Barack Obama is joking about suit gate he posts this side-by-side photo showing him and Harris wearing tan suits commenting how it started how it's going 10 years later and it's still a good look what do you think about this Allan why do you think it's such a big deal I mean I I look back almost nostalgically at that like remember those problems who knew that Co January 6th and all these things like that was all Fox had to go on was like his suit and that used to be a big argument and you know honestly people are going to uh wait their time revenge is a dish best served cold and Obama took those arrows when uh you know when he was in the presidency and really couldn't fire back but now as a private citizen former president he is going to take his shots I'm sure that was annoying and I'm sure the nitpicking that we saw with him as uh not only the first president the first African-American President we uh you know I I don't care what anybody says he dealt with more and had to say less or nothing than anybody that except for maybe our first uh woman of color uh president will and the the reason we're sitting here discussing whether she'll be able to handle an interview on her own uh when we've been subject to a parade of foolishness from uh you know certain people on both sides but the idea that she can't handle it as a former prosecutor what do you think she's going to do why not do it start babbling yeah it is her first interview I mean it is a legit question I do I I do believe that she's going to do hundreds of interviews by ourselves but you have to understand they they're on they're on a clock though they they got they got into this game to the to the race almost three and a half years late they have to kind of be like this is me and this is my running we just saw the convention we got walls I'd like to see just her right now coming up on DBL Erica is going to share one of her favorite moments from the last seven years of DBL [Music] welcome back this week we are celebrating our time on DBL together and looking back at some of our favorite moments Erica it's your turn today so what special moment stood out to you the special moment that I had at DBL had to have been my natural hair Journey mhm there was a moment on daily blast live where we were talking about Viola Davis I got tired of always celebrating movies that didn't have in it I don't mean me Viola I mean me as a black woman stop taming us and that stuck with me so much because I remember watching her on how to get away with murder when she took her wig off and I was like wow I want to be a part of the change that I want to see in media today living out my natural hair Journey on live TV hasn't always been easy but I found it necessary I had to learn how to be vulnerable and surrender to my hair it's been a wild ride that included gaining the confidence to star in my own music video baby that's all me come Queen know what call radi girl now I'm onv everyone sitting here on this panel and in the are so proud to share this moment with you oh my gosh thank you oh my oh my gosh Erica okay so you spoke about Viola Davis and how she impacted you but you also said your mom changed some things in your head tell me about that yeah I think um it's just important when I said the natural hair Journey when I was talking about it y'all have to remember this was in 2019 so it was before the social Justice movement and we were just learning what the crown Act was and shout out to Dr AA B asamoa for leading that um and it was really about being able to wear our hair professionally as people of color in any way that we saw fit and at the time natural hair was not prevalent on television and it was something that I wanted to be free to be me and my mother had always encouraged me that I don't have to hide behind other things in order to feel like I'm beautiful and she's always you know modeled that for me and I really appreciate her for that Dr cob beautiful it's great that we're doing this because when I was asked to prepare my favorite memory it was this seriously so I mean it would it just impacted all of us so much Erica so tell us how did Michelle Obama play a role in this so at the time um I was quite frustrated because I we were all kind of locked into our looks you know and I auditioned for the show with Gres which for black women you know it's a temporary style like maybe a few weeks or a few months and because of that continuity my hair which I had done a a big chop um for I wasn't able to wear my hair and so when I met Michelle Obama I was telling her how proud I was of her for wearing her natural hair and to being seeing the change that we want to see in the world and I was like well I'm not able to do that and she said you tell who whoever that I said that you can wear your hair however you want to wear your hair and ultimately that is the foundation of the crown act it's the ability to wear your hair how you see fit and all of it is considered professional or appropriate or something that we shouldn't be ashamed of w so I'm so proud and just privileged to have been in a situation with so many people who have supported not only my journey but also I get so much to this day so many correspondences from DBL Nation saying you have changed the way that I feel about my hair you have changed the way that I walk out and represent myself in the world and I am just so proud to be a part of that change because all I can think of is when I needed someone to be that for me we had so few limited um examples of that so I'm proud well you're one of and she helped legislatively by the way right tomorrow we'll be sharing oh my favorite DBL moment oh no so stay was I was surprised that it was as divided as it was I mean you know the this election is going to be I mean probably the craziest in history and we're coming off one that was really crazy coming off but two that were really crazy in the last eight years so it's uh I think it's going to be tight I am not a I'm not a betting man I I don't know how it's going to go but you know come November which seems like very close but also so far away Anything could happen at this point I think it's going to be tight what do you guys think like what what's the consensus what do you know you guys are the talked about uh Trump endlessly I might not vote I don't know I I don't know might you to be totally honest I don't know can I ask you possibility of not voting is is in your head because I think a lot of people feel this way yeah I mean I think ultimately I'm going to vote but a possibility of not voting I is is a way of sort of protesting in a way but then if I don't vote can I complain I'm trying to figure it out I have time to figure it out I am putting in the work to figure it out I'm putting in the time and the energy to figure it out more so than in the past uh way way way way more so than in the past I I know that if I Vote or I don't vote it'll be uh uh thought about considered and uh slept on and uh you know rinse and repeating all that I I'm taking it very seriously app even if I don't vote I'm taking it seriously I appreciate that and even if we disagree on some things I appreciate the passion and the well thought educated motion of doing it and not just complete apathy so thank you for that one more question I'm sorry for hogging but do you think the mics of the presidential candidates should be muted if they do agree to debate I think that they went out of their way to mute the mics with Biden and I don't see why they wouldn't want to continue that uh uh with Kamala um you know I I I know why they wouldn't but you know they went you know all the rules and regulations were were dictated by uh the Biden Administration and his his crew and his team so why would they want to change it now um I know why you know I mean uh um you know but I I think I think to be totally honest you know the last de debate I thought it was the way a debate should be I don't think that it should be this tip for Tad I don't think it should be this bullying I think it should be policies policies policies and I did say after that debate that I thought this is the way a debate should be and you know instead of interrupting and you know um you know getting into I call it snapping a snap contest it should be just like that and if if uh you know that's the way it was set up the first time they should run it back like that because I like the way that debate turned out even though uh you know a lot of people didn't like uh uh you know the way abiden performed but I like the temperature of it and the rules and regulations of it yeah agreed Michael and we just want to it's gained so much praise of course after Real Housewives of Beverly Hills so did you ever expect it to be so beloved absolutely not no I mean like they they asked me to cook lunch for these girls one day and I'm sure they expected that I would go out and aater and do everything everybody else does but I said why you know why don't I you know cook my Bolan for them and see how they like it you know and and I didn't expect them to Rave about it I thought they'd say okay this is okay pretty good but they raved about it and they raved about the sauce and then some stuff happened with the sauce that I you know you couldn't control and it got out of the Zeitgeist and it's become this thing like Wherever I Go seriously people come up to me they go oh God I love your wife where can I get your sauce so I mean it just one of those things where like I had to do it I had no choice I had to bring it out well now that it it is out in that Zeitgeist is it too much because are people just constantly asking you to make it for them is it like a little overwhelming well you know I I I found a company that could make it at scale I mean look the big thing about if you make something on the stove at home and people like it you know that's great but if you want to sell it to people at large you got to make a lot of it right and how do you find a company that can make a lot of something you make a little of and make it taste just as good if not better wow because I actually I did a a blind tasting with my neighbors I've been feeding them this sauce every week for the last 25 years every Sunday and they uh I did a blind test tasting and they picked the one from the factory over the one that I just made on the St am that's really good you found the right people I don't go to the fact what I do is I just make one jar and sell it for $58,000 no one buys it Al no one is buying less of a market it's rotting in the back we had it all season all right people will soon be able to buy the sauce and it even comes with this downloadable recipe and an instructional video so there's some hairy in there is there one specific step in making the sauce that's really important to master um well it's that's a good question you know the thing is that our our the open food company that's putting the sauce out we are going to give the recipe for the sauce tell you how to make it at home and if you can make it at home if you want it takes a couple of hours or to go to the market do all stuff or you can buy it from the Shelf um you know as far as like how to do it when to do it that's
