Jared Jones or Jack Flaherty? Drop AJ Puk? Plus Royce Lewis Replacements | Fantasy Baseball Advice

Intro let's talk waiver wire ads from the opening weekend up next on fantasy baseball today in [Applause] five welcome into fbtn 5 on Monday April Fool's Day be careful out there I am Frank stel joined by Scott White and let's talk waiver wire pitchers some potential Justin steel Replacements unfortunately and the first group Scott includes your boy Jack FL who pitched Jared Jones or Jack Flaherty well in his Tigers debut six Innings one run seven strikeouts he is up to 77% rostered faces the A's this week Jared Jones racked up 10 strikeouts in his major league debut against the Marlins he is 57% rostered Seth Lugo had a great Royals debut against the twins where he threw six shutout Innings with four strikeouts and Brady singer was dominant against the Minnesota Twins as well seven shutout Innings with 10 strikeouts in that outing Scott how would you rank this group singer Lugo flarity and Jared Jones so I would put flarey and Jared Jones at the top and clearly one and two here much higher than the Royals pitchers for me in fact Jack flarity and Jared Jones I would call them pretty close to to must ad must roster at this point Jack flarity that first start against the white sock no walks in the six Innings seven strikeouts 13 whiffs on 87 pitches the slider was up 1.2 milph the curveball was up 2.3 the fast ball was up only 04 not as big of a jump as we were seeing in spring training but it it was also 47 degree weather he was pitching in so I I I think the results and and the velocity we saw on the other pitches still very encouraging for flarey a good indication that those gains from spring training are gonna carry over and then as for Jared Jones rookie pitcher he got some headlines this spring too mostly because of the Velocity the strikeout number wasn't that impressive but certainly Saturday against the Marlins it was 10 strikeouts of five and two thirs innings 22 swinging strikes on 89 pitches and that was even though pretty much just fastball slider both more than 45% of the time 10 whiffs on the slider 11 on the fastball which peaked at 99.9 miles per hour it just looks like Jared Jones has a special knockout Arsenal and there will be Innings concerns as a rookie and maybe consistency concerns but the upside is enough I think at this point to go ahead and take a shot on him not as interested in Seth Lugo and um Brady singer obviously a dominant start for sing singer against the twins but don't see a lot of changes there his track record doesn't show a lot of strikeout upside so I'm calling it a fluke at this point AJ Puk Scott we and the fantasy Community collect ly really liked AJ Puck and what we saw in spring training his first outing not great he gave up four runs six walks over just two innings of work would you drop AJ Puck for either Jack flarity or Jared Jones I called those two must adad so I guess if it really came down to it I would just from the perspective okay that's a shallow League we're talking about this may be your only sh chance at flare and Jones Puck after such a terrible outing maybe you get another shot at him but speaking to standard siiz leagues in deeper where Puck wasn't your last pick or anything close to it I want to hold on to Puck because this start was so out of character with the six walks that it it's clear something was going on and and we just there isn't an honest analysis to be done of this start because it was just a weird thing that happened and both AJ Puck and Skip Schumacher the the Marlins manager uh referred to a gripping issue he had difficulty gripping the ball which might explain the the control issue there uh you know it is his first time starting as a major leager and and maybe it'll we'll come to find out he can't handle the role that's I'm I'm open to that possibility but I don't think this start is a fair interpretation that that's a fair interpretation to make I think we need to see AJ Puck start again hopefully under better circumstances hopefully has the grip issued down and and I don't think this is gon to happen again he walked only four in spring training 2.1 walks per N Out of the bullpen next last year I don't think this is going to remain an issue for Puck Royce Lewis suffered a severe quad Royce Lewis train and will be sidelined over a month Scott so we need Replacements in shallower leagues uh how do you rank this group Matt Chapman Colt Keith Michael Garcia aeno Suarez I gonna stick with my pre-season ranking which I believe is Colt Keith Matt Chapman Michel Garcia and AOH hen uare they're close enough though that if you want to go with someone else I'm not going to I'm not going to argue with you about it uh if you're just looking for next week Mikel Garcia with the Royals having the best matchups is my is a sleeper hitter for next week and those others aren't okay and in deeper leagues Jared triolo Willie Castro grah Paulie JD Davis any interest in those names and me JD Davis is gonna get the playing time so uh well you said Willie Castro too right yeah yeah he's he's the clear winner here with I mean he's the who's actually replacing Royce Lewis for the Twins and he should provide
