Mensah on getting first QB reps [Music] ter how how good it feel to get those first reps there you're the first guy out there uh pretty strong statement that you went out there first with some upper classman in front of you yeah for sure uh definitely felt good to get those reps Under The Lights you know a lot of excitement there was a little delay before which kind of Killed My Vibe a little bit but um we had we came out strong for the first drive so um um really excited about the things we're going to do on the offensive side of the ball the coach told you that you would be the first quarterback out there the Mensah on Michael Pratt one so was your initial reaction or thought um just focused on doing my job doesn't really mean anything to me haven't really done anything so um just G on execu with my mindset before that he mentioned that you know you have a comfortability with you that's not really seen Rich freshman and how that could become because you got to sit behind Michael Pratt how do you think his influence has really helped you in your preparation yeah Mike definitely helped um he's a great great mentor for me um he did a lot of things that he really didn't have to as a starter he's got a lot of things going on but he really took the time to um Mentor me in a way that I'm extremely grateful for what would you say were your biggest takeaways biggest lessons areas of progress that whether it be what Michael passed on to you or I mean over the last year I say just getting the ball out fast and um really what rubbed off on me was the leadership aspect Mike was a great leader and um I I really want to be like him one day um he's in the league and that's where I want to be as well so the leadership aspect you a Mensah on leadership couple of improvisational it's one on the first drive where you scrambled and hit Mario downfield you consider that a strength of yours uh yeah for sure um I don't really get to show it when coach chal is you know he he's a fast whistle guy he's a defensive guy so he'll call it towards the defensive side but um I I believe that I can make those plays um plenty of times the the Comfort level Mensah on receivers and trust too with the receivers when you're making plays like like that I guess kind of talk us through that connection for them to continue to keep plays alive on their end you know I got a lot of older receivers around me so they they've been around ball um and they know what to do in those situations and they see me getting out the pocket um and they make me look really good you know Rio Dante all them you'll they may really good Teran you don't play like you're a Mensah on confidence freshman out there I know you're a red shirt freshman there do you just do you not get nervous do you just you just go out there with confidence there what what kind of get you going out there uh really just God you know he's my strength um I go out there with a lot of confidence you know and confidence in my guys and my coach as well you know when he when he has confidence in me it makes me feel pretty good so going out there and just being confident is the biggest Mensah on QB battle thing when when it came to a spring ball and you got Ty coming in and you got Kai coming back what was the message that coach told you that you know going in the spring and and going in the fall there uh about this quarterback battle there because you know some other big heavyweights older guys and you're you're just you're fighting with them you're in the middle of this thing right now yeah yeah yeah um he just told me you know the job's open um if you want to go get it you can go get it and that I really just took that to heart and just worked my ass off and the guys we've all worked our ass off to be honest so um that's just the mindset every day just keep working [Music]
