[Music] n [Music] just about set to go and on the mound now Logan Gilbert well he's been a real quality starter for his club and coming into this one what stands out for me is that right-handed hitters have really struggled batting below 200 on the year it seems that they have a hard time picking up his release point and tracking the ball into the zone so we'll see how randers do against him in this one and now the DH Luis AR trying to pick up his first knock in the big leagues that's way outside and we're underway and that's outside [Applause] next offering way off the [Applause] plate and there's the automatic [Music] lifted in the air now the left side and that'll fall for a base hit so Runner a board to start the inning Luis arrives with his first major league hit and this is a moment I'm sure he'll never forget congrats yeah great moment for him and his family a guy works so hard and has to wait so long for this to happen and when it does can kind of be overwhelming boo you still have to stay locked in on the game but it's great when you could take a minute to just appreciate what you've done and how hard you worked to get here Fernando tati Jr to hit here looking for his first big league hit right here and delivers outside Fernando tatis Jr signed by the white socks 2015 for $700,000 and then eventually moved in the James Shields trade in June of [Applause] 2016 and another [Applause] ball outside runner at first with no outs [Applause] here and there's a base hit at to left throw back in quickly first and second now with nobody out Fernando tatis Jr with his first major league hit and this is a moment I'm sure he'll never forget congrats yeah great moment for him and his family a guy works so hard and has to wait so long for this to happen and when it does can kind of be overwhelming boo you still have to stay locked in on the game but it's great when you can take a minute to just appreciate what you've done and how hard you worked to get here now batting jerx in profar singi maybe some nerves getting the best of him in the first well it's hard to know exactly if it's nerves or not but he just doesn't have it right now those hitters on the other side they're going to say it's nerves and use that as a competive Edge to try to jump on him even more way outside and it's two [Applause] and0 wouldn't chase that time Manny Machado in the San Diego onck Circle no outs Runners at first and second there's a strike three and one looks like he's just sizing him up there really good pitch to hit but he took it all the way sometimes guys just want to set their timing later on in the game that may be a Pitch that he turns [Applause] on 3-2 now good plate appearance there able to take the walk well the stage has been set for this offense boo it's all about creating opportunities and this is one of them right here Bas is loaded no nobody out now Machado up here first pitch not close base is loaded nobody out that missed by a lot and the count is two and0 pressure's on right here two count base is loaded you don't want to fall to a three ball count and then walk in or on he's got to challenge the hit right here that misses the zone three balls no strike sing maybe some nerves getting the best of him in the first yeah it could be his nerves it could be adrenaline just too pumped up this is a big game and sometimes guys need to get a little fatigue so that they can allow their stuff to really play right through there for a [Applause] strike swing and a highfly ball out there towards left field brings it in runner tags from third and they St strike first as they take a one- nothing lead there you go nice little RBI there it's a grad bat got the job done two on one out now here's Jake cronenworth I know we're still early in the stages of this game but this sbat has the potential of being a Difference Maker you've got to stay calm in the box at this point the clean inning is over got to settle in focus on the hitter and get out of it with minimal damage righty delivers that one not close two balls no strikes it's great to get on the board in the first frame of the ball game but here's an opportunity for them to really open things up with a couple of Runners on let's see if they can cash in not close with that one and it's three and0 first inning and already up to 23 pitches there's a strike and now three and [Applause] one foul ball there two on one out cronenworth will take his base two walks in the first has to be some cause for concern I mean you're talking about a guy you want to pitch deep into the ball game it's not going to help with the pitch count right there they can't afford to hand out free bases at this rate and here is Xander bulgars that one way outside and that's ball one the short stop takes the ball he's clearly trying to work him away here both pitches off the plate if you really want to put the ball in play you're going to have to stay back and drive it to the opposite field that's outside and it's three and0 in situations like these the air can get really thin up there at the plate got to find a way to breathe and slow everything down up the middle and he knocks it down and they get the out after the Ricochet but they do get a [Applause] run Jackson Merill the next up for the Padre's keep an eye on this at bat because even though it's early it could change the outcome of this game look for your pitch and attack it outside and it's one and0 profar the runner at third cron work on it second but two now not even close there and that's ball [Applause] two and another ball [Music] [Applause] [Music] leftand hitter Waits lifted in the air right center field Rodriguez heads towards it he's got it and that's the third out but two runs for them and they jump ahead bottom half of inning number one coming up it's the Padre's two and the Mariners coming to bat [Music] back at T-Mobile Park and on the hill in this one Michael King singy he's kind of a road warrior yeah I definitely say so you know some guys shrink a little bit on the road they're so used to just know having the Comforts of being at home and having the fans behind him but this guy seems to thrive in adversity and being in some hostile environment so when you have a player like this on your team that goes out there and competes you definitely like your chances away from your home ballark and the pitch Line Drive leaps it he's got it thatting second and now we check out the Mariners lineup one guy leading the way offensively for this club right now Jorge palano and he's leading him in runs batted end this season which tells me this guy is able to slow things down when it seems like there's a little bit of pressure and he's looking at as an opportunity to do damage you know a lot of guys they see Runners on base and they get big they feel like all this pressure I've got to get these runs in but somehow he oh now this is blasted way back there on its way gone a massive home run and they're on the scoreboard it's 2-1 that gives this offense something to celebrate for the first time in this one [Applause] with a low 90s fast ball you have to live on the edges and hit your spots if you don't you'll get hit hard really good swing there patient waited for it was like BP all over again [Applause] [Music] one down digging in Cal Raleigh fou back ourway and that's out of play part of the order coming through now and with one home run already in this inning they're definitely looking to do some more damage [Applause] clober to right field way back G that was blasted to the Moon his first Homer of the year and we're leveled it's 22 this game is breathing New Life thanks to to that home run and that's exactly what they [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] needed backto back Jacks and this club is fired up right now boob I mean this is the kind of thing where you really start to notice hitters in a lineup beating off each other and the collective up next for the Mariners this kid picked up in a trade a lot was offered and given to get him but he's got a real high ceiling in the air Right Center this is mashed way back and [Applause] gone and this place is rocking their third home run of the inning and just like that they're out in front it's 4-2 you can't ask for a better start than hitting a home run in your first and bat to give your team the lead well he went there o looking to do damage I think he had his sight set on that pitch he went and got it and circled the bases [Applause] [Music] [Applause] so now Turner in on that right side and a big swing in a Miss King goes 6' 3 in 28 years old and they went out and made a trade for him last season at the belt and fires that one [Music] ripped and that gets down in the corner around first heading for two and his first big league hit is a [Applause] double Justin Turner with his first major league hit and this is a moment I'm sure he'll never forget congrats yeah great moment for him and his family a guy works so hard and has to wait so long for this to happen and when it does can kind of be overwhelming boo you still have to stay locked in on the game but it's the wall rounds third headed for the plate throws to Second and he's in there there and a run comes in to score so he gets two Milestones with that hit his first big league knock and he drives in his first run as well yeah you love to get both of those out of the way with just one swing of the bat and it makes the special moment even more special it's not just an individual accomplishment when you're also driving in a run for your team that's a it bad he's never going to forget [Music] maned second with one away JP Crawford gets a chance to hit [Applause] [Applause] rander kick Steals and a sack bun here and he picks it up and he'll put it in his [Applause] pocket man it's second and he pops up the bun makes the grab and there's two gone batting n the third BAS [Music] here's Josh inning [Music] [Music] and welcome back to the ballpark here's Donovan Solano they're off to a great start three-run lead after their first inning but so important to be airtight defensively don't give away extra outs and allow that other club to get back in this ball game the pitch this is a hitter who takes his game to another level playing at night singi he wasn't real sharp in the first got hit around but really more so didn't throw a ton of strikes well he's just got to find a way to settle down he was clearly fighting himself out there not really finding the strike zone walking batters so we'll see if he can get back on track and fill up the Zone a little bit more boo one of our favorites Jerry Hillsdale uniring behind home plate in this one pretty much by the book with his Strike Zone and because he's so by the book you sometimes times see pitchers questioning him they'll make a good pitch on the edge of the Zone want the strike and not get the call but most of the time Jerry gets it right he's a good one and there's the [Applause] strike splits the plate and the count is filled up pretty rare location right there right down the middle this guy Paints the edges I'm not sure if you're going to see that pitch again as a hitter 32 on the way and he walked him well he's normally going to fill up the strike zone and really limit base runners but his command in this one just seems off out there a lot more walks than he's used to given up Kyle higashioka the next to hit takes ball one wouldn't chase that time the Padres trailing by three here at the top of the second that one not close and now three and0 let's see if he gives him anything to hit here pitches in for a strike three and one thought the green light might be on right there but maybe not if you're looking to swing in that count that's the pitch you want kicks and fires and there's a strike good heater at 98 he must have been looking for something else cuz he gave up on that pitch a little early it was right down Main Street probably not going to see a better pitch to hit in this hit [Applause] [Music] [Applause] backat outside and that is ball four gosh another walk in this one man he is having some real issues with control so the San Diego batting order turns over Lis arise stands in one for one with a single and a run scored so [Applause] far and the first offering is not close [Applause] kicks and Deals two know count little trouble with this one behind the plate but no advance from the [Music] runners and here it comes that misses and that's ball three and a pitch swinging a drive deep right field that one back there grabs it right up against the wall Runner tags it second now we'll see if moving up to third there pays off for him he didn't have to tag and go but now he can score a lot of different ways doesn't have to be a base hit we'll see what happens and the batter will be Fernando tatis Jr singled and scored his first time and ball one to the right fielder first and third one down and that's outside that one misses and that's ball three [Music] [Applause] tatis weights swing in a Miss I guess you throw it that hard you can get away with locations like that right down the [Applause] middle two on one out and that one in the air center field Rodriguez settles under it and he makes the catch Runner tagging from third that's a sacrifice fly as he comes across it's five3 sometimes all you got to do is your job and don't over complicate things keep it simple Runner third less than two outs put the ball in play and a nice job with the sack F profar climbs in on that left side first offering misses badly for ball one [Applause] and another ball well he's really working him away this at bat sometimes take a little bit off velocity try to get a roll over something on the ground stay away from that big hole on the right side of the infield way outside and now three [Applause] and0 profar gets a piece there and the right-hander deals there's a swing and a drive that one's carrying and forget [Applause] it and this game is tied it's 55 wow what a clutch swing right there and now anything can happen in this game [Music] he came out of his shoes on that one but managed to keep his mechanics intact long enough to get to the ball and through it and it went a long way B is empty with two away and now it's Manny Machado drove in a run with a sack fly his first [Applause] timeout that's way outside ball one here comes a pitch two and0 to [Applause] count laboring here about to throw his 30th pitch of the [Applause] inning next offer way off the plate Gilbert maybe a little less aggressive on the mound right now after that home run Chris yeah it seems that way you know pitchers they can come out feel good but then all of a sudden get touched up a little bit and they start trying to throw instead of pitch they're not trusting their stuff foul ball and it remains a Full Count righty to the plate the 3-2 is off the outside edge and that is ball four it's been a little bit of a shaky inning but he's still in a good spot to get out of this thing without giving up any more runs he's just got to turn the page and go after this next guy cinor in the box now as he looks at ball one second play appearance of the day for him and there's ball well he's been good for the most part is it going to take someone going out to the mound to maybe refocus him a bit every pitcher is a little different I I liken it to you sometimes you come in and you're not as focused and I kind of do what it takes to get you on track and then you have a great show uh so perhaps it's the same with him nobody really wants their Rhythm broken up but sometimes they need a little pickme up the Pitch hit the air left field the Ros Arena moving under it makes the grab and that'll end the inning two across on this San Diego Homer all even to five peace back after this on the [Music] show back in Seattle bottom of the second and now it's Victor ress up to H there's one thing on his mind this is bat getting that first hit at the big league level King back to work and that's ripped into left base hit so a man on base to start the Victor robless with the plate Good Game caller good at framing but it's that big arm that really stands out swing and a ball lifted to center field he's there he's got it two down up next toatt the left Fieldy ala R and come in on this Seattle Homer it's now an 85 ball game Major League Baseball is on the show you see them trying to beat me it's only one man believe me all set for the start of the inning here's Xander Bogart well after scorn Rollins this is where you're looking for that shutdown inning get that hot team back in there to swing the bats the rander back to work been a rough start on the M for this guy this third inning so important for him to get on track Turn the Page settle in do all those things you need to do to give your team a little bit of length in this one so two balls and no strikes you know these Padres doing a good job of Simply getting the bat on the ball in this game and the numbers back that up they're hitting everything thrown at them their contact rate is in the low 90s it's like they know what's coming and that's just pretty ridiculous what they're doing right now those numbers are well above the Major League average there's a strike 3-1 [Applause] on the some really good at bats in this game there's been a lot to like with how they're approaching their chances at the play they jumped all over the starter and knocked him out of the game early he just was never able to settle in and the damage was done by the time he got the hook man he smoked that fast ball it's all over it it's just frustrating when you can't get it to fall maybe next time up he'll find a hole and stepping in for the Mariners JP Crawford he's over one puts it in the air out towards left Center Meo makes the catch two away now I mean when you're chasing the opposing starter in the first inning or two that's just such a tone Setter for the game and it puts the other team back on their heels and it Stills a lot of confidence in your lineup from top to bottom [Applause] here's something cool boo when they finished building T-Mobile Park back in 1999 they actually opened it up in the middle of the season I remember as a rookie with the Chicago White Socks we opened the season at the kingom and then when we came back later in the year we were playing at T-Mobile Park it's a beautiful place great scenery from center field and I always enjoyed playing here pitch misses there two [Applause] and0 and delivers outside left hand batter weights and a four pitch walk he just hasn't had great command of his pitches in this one definitely more walks than you'd like to see man it first and now the right fielder Fernando ta Jr The Double Play For Crying Out first pitch not close can't find it here that's six straight balls and a pitch wouldn't chase that time now just about to hit that century mark 100 pitches for this game [Applause] he swings and fouls one off arise on at first nobody [Applause] Out Swinging a foul over the screen and back out of play [Applause] payoff pitch and tatis is able to stay alive and the righty deals and there's Ball Four pitch counts getting up there now and not saying that's the reason for this walk but this is the point point in the game when every sign of wavering starts to get everyone's attention here's the switch hitting left fielder jerks in proar and ball one two offs in the inning already and he just doesn't seem comfortable out there like he can find the right mechanics and then repeat them and a pitch two and0 [Music] somebody got be War [Applause] than and another ball let's see if he gives him league career and it could be the first of many if he meets the goals he's set for himself and the expectations others have for him he doesn't want to just win games he wants to dominate at this level do you think Young pitchers can sometimes get too caught up and trying to rack up PS early in their career Bo I think they can it's kind of like a hitter that doesn't have power The Thrill is still hitting the ball over the fence and so for a guy even if he doesn't have power stuff or strikeout stuff a strikeout is still still something that makes him stick his chest out a little bit further with one guardone now bat first B Turner and it'll bring up Justin [Music] Turner in the air left field great effort as he's able to haul it in runner tags for home he's in to scoring the sack fly back to work ball one no strikes I can't play around with him here it's a six-run lead at this point got to attack hitters even if you give up a solo shot now One Missed and here comes Scott servis as he's ready to make a change on the mound Logan Gilbert done for the night and as he heads off we'll step aside for a minute back with a new pitcher after this break new pitcher for the Mariners George Kirby still pretty early in the ball game so this Bullpen has some work ahead of him best case scenario might be if he can come in here and get several quick outs kind of bridge the gap that starter well usually a high level of confidence when you're facing a young pitcher out there on the mound in this situation a head 2 has put himself in a really good spot wouldn't chase that time let's see if double play I think there's always something pretty about watching a 543 double play get turned I mean just seeing the ball ripped around the diamond with quickness and accuracy that was nice so the experience when you're looking out over the plate allowing the ball to travel it's pure reaction to hit a pitch in that location that's a tremendous swing deep in my walk what you done to me w bases drilled out towards left center field that's well struck and no one can get there makes the turn and heads for second and it's a double making him three for four on the day and his hot hitting
