SHOCKER: Vikings Sign former Bears QB Brett Rypien, Waive QB Jaren Hall

[Music] what's going on jeromes so all off season Chef quacy has been cooking up some amazing meals for the Minnesota fighting Vikings a three star michelan it's been delicious but he may have just given us food poisoning so in a move which on its surface doesn't make a lot of sense and qu will be addressing the media Jackal today so hopefully we get some answers there but I I I don't understand this one so the Vikings sign veteran journeyman quarterback Brett rien most recently of the Bears uh and wave quarterback jiren Hall second year fifth round pick a guy who had an amazing preseason uh a guy who Vikings fans were clamoring needs to stay on the 53 and not chance trying to get him down to the practice squad because he'll be yed just grab like that but I don't know we talked that the Vikings were probably going to add a fourth quarterback I did not expect it this fashion like why not sign rip into the practice squad but we'll get into it but overall like jiren Hall he would like to speak to the general manager of football That's it man but uh let's not look at the gift horse in the mouse so Brett rippen 28 years young 6222 a record setting quarterback at Boise State whatever what hey congratulations for breaking Kell Moore's records it's great uh was a udfa in 2019 I spent three years with the Broncos and yeah Brett rippen is the guy that was was uh getting it on with Dalton Ryner and that uh sideline Skirmish that that went viral back in the day because a lot of people think it was Ryner and Russell Wilson it wasn't it was Ryner and Brett rien which is kind of funny because uh apparently they're really good friends but sometimes friends argue on the sidelines a national televised game uh but also Ryner was in Denver uh with some of the coaches that have cross over here with the blockings like uh running game coordinator Curtis modkins offensive line coach Chris Cooper Etc so they're familiar with Brett rippen's game uh then rippen bounced around the league a little bit uh spent uh 2023 with the Rams Jets and Seahawks and then ended up in Camp with the Bears this year and frankly looked really damn good in the Hall of Fame game looked good in preseason um you there was some thought that he would be on the Bears roster but they decided to roll with kale Williams as well as uh as well as Tyson badon the pride of Shephard University in year two uh so that's where we're currently at and has played in 10 career NFL regular season games four starts 950 yards passing four touchdowns nine picks and a 59.9 quarterback rating which you would think it's like why why did you have to roster this why couldn't you just sign him to the practice squad I don't know yeah and with jiren Hall like I hope that jiren Hall remains in the sphere I hope that he clears waivers and the Vikings are able to get him down to the practice squad but I mean jiren Hall even though yeah he was tossed into fire as a rookie had some up and down uh results but uh he was Dynamite this year in preseason uh really showing up and showing out and looking really damn good and there's some upside there and we said like hey maybe jiren Hall can develop into the long-term backup for JJ McCarthy that certainly could be in the cards but now I mean the Vikings are at a Crossroads and now Hall has to pass through waivers and Brett rien is on the roster for whatever reason but like we said trying trying to reason what was going on here so number one so rien obviously had other 50 man uh roster offers otherwise why would the Vikings offer this spot up and not go the practice squad route also I mean did the Vikings rate Brett rippen higher than jiren Hall like yeah I mean us fans we love jiren hall because that's you recency biases in there too and jiren Hall beat up on some of the Browns and Eagles twos and threes uh but obviously they they like riing a little bit better uh also they could potentially get Hall on the practice squad now rather than if they just waved him at initial 53 man cuts because a lot of other teams they have the 53 man roster set they have their practice squad set and you know maybe they're looking for a third or fourth quarterback they already did that so this could be like a sneaky good move here by quacy also so Kevin McConnell definitely played up the fact that jiren Hall had a minor leg injury uh and could that be just being put out there just to put seed a little bit of doubt in other GM's Minds like hey don't take J hall because remember he's passing through waivers so other teams would have to add him to their 53 man roster if they made that waiver claim uh so maybe that's just a little SE was like hey you're really going to put a quarterback and use up one of your waiver spots uh on a QB who's injured is that what you're going to do you sure about that uh but once he does get through waivers uh and they can sign to the practice squad and plus you can protect up to four practice squad players a week uh so they could protect jiren Hall all season so is this a calculated risk I mean if so fine like I I I do think that Hall will probably get through waivers but it's not 100% and frankly I if this meant that you would lose Brett rippen if you had to put him on the 53 versus the practice squad go ahead I I I I don't care I would much rather you kept jiren Hall on the 53 but I don't know we'll get some answers from quacy today supposed to uh feed the local media Jackal today at some point but I don't know man I I just don't get this one but who knows like things will work
