CFB Week 2 reactions: Notre Dame falls, Texas impress, Alabama, Oklahoma survive & more | SVPod

Introduction [Music] welcome in it is svod late night early a.m. depending on how you look at it the big man whose day began in an Arbor Michigan joins us now from California correct yes sir what is the 3X3 count please zero what has happened to you got to get to the hotel to do the pot I'm here for the people still got the same clothes I put on at 5: a. Eastern little bit don't smell don't smell great little ripe little musty if there's a headline to this day I feel like the headline to week two in college football massive Road dubs and some Shockers let's just start where you were yep game Texas dominates Michigan day and Arbor Michigan reigning Champs team 144 that's what they call them Michigan that each year has a team or each however you put it each team goes whatever this is team 145 M Michigan they got a dose now my question to you before we started is does Michigan stink and very quickly you said no I think two things can be true at once Texas can show you what they are which is a lot it appeared to me Michigan's taking a fairly decent size step back you lo you lose a lot not not every program recruits at a level where you just plug and play that's incredibly difficult to do but let's start with Texas you saw it I'm always interested in your very well-trained eye what you saw up close that maybe TV didn't catch what was what was pop eye popping uh they're monstrous first of all Scott I mean they got some dudes you know reading all the preseason all you know POS position rankings you know defensive line offensive line the whole thing Texas has been up there Banks the left tackles a Bonafide you know top 10 pick and you see them come out in those just spectacular whites uh it it was really really good um our guy Matthew walked right across the field in front of 108,000 and just gave the double hooks so right there the scene and the tone was set quick here if I could just check in mccon said your right-and man finally had these finally had horns up all right we could talk Matthew uh off the Pod just because there was a lot of uh not not relevant um conversation uh that people want to hear about the College Football Saturday but any uh Mr Jeter said to say hello also to the way taller than I thought yeah jet is a big man yeah fell wow anyway Matthew uh was on a tippet point because he said it was the third plane that they uh he had to get to get him to Austin I think he missed big noon Fox um he was supposed to be on that show halftime and I said what I sent a note I'm like what is this yeah what what what is this you're cheating on you're cheating on game listen we we obviously he's a grown man and they had the game we get it he was schedu for pregame and I think because of how genuine he is and the score was 216 in his favor but no it was really it was cool we were on the Texas sideline uh you know Michigan being in there for a couple days they had the perfect you know we're regrouped but you could tell they had an opportunity here with Texas coming in and you know it's as big as a brand as as there are in the sport sure um you know with those two and Michigan was confident that they learned a lot from last week talking to people and they came out I thought the first drive was was really set the tone Texas you know had some negative plays but with with Sark and his script they stuck to it ERS was great got rid of balls when he was supposed to made a play they scored touchdown gets called back they still get to a field goal range they missed the field goal but they took about six no probably more than that seven or eight minutes off the clock and then they get Michigan a three and out and boom they're right back on him and that that thing with the Sark offense Scott is the the misdirection and the discipline offensive line I'm talking to Herby a little bit on the offensive line on on the sideline like when you have guy like you know they they love running those wide wide outside runs and you have guys pulling but the object is that you know when you're pulling do not hit the first guy you're almost trapping him and the running back's gonna get deeper so you it's it's such hard offensive line discipline that I was so impressed with and on the road you know in that environment no one that M Michigan still has some studs Graham's a stud grants a stud baram looks like a Greek god that would yeah we we missed him in College Park that's for sure I sorry but watching him and then you got will Johnson so you still have cornerstones at every level of that defense but Texas was really consistent I thought they did a really good job with the downhill run game uh you know where running right down the center uh and using those guys to run up field and then just that mixed with the misdirection it sets up throwing lanes and ERS is you know he hasn't played that much of a football I thought uh he there was a story about how he made a point before the um playoff game that he was coming back because he went back and did a study about the 26 starts that is is a really big threshold for quarterbacks at the next level those guys have way more success than the guys that don't have have that number really that's interesting yeah and uh and you saw it he was not flustered I I I think he um he's the leader of that team you you see guys respond him you come thing after touchdown drives he was that guy in high school yeah and he goes to he leaves Texas and goes to Ohio State and he's there for a minute and then he comes back to Texas and you know then Arch comes in and like the we've seen High Lev recruits where you're supposed to be something and if you're not immediately right and I don't like he if if you're not to the to the level we thought you would be it doesn't always happen because people get impatient or People Press I think that's a really mature sort of viewpoint that you're saying that he took that I need to go back and oh by the way we're loaded we made the playoff last year and we've got a really good opportunity to go back and maybe take that last step we talked to Sark about it the other night in sports center it's hard to do there's not that you don't you only have one more step to go anyway I just you're changing confence you're going of the best conference it's a massive difference look like they play Oklahoma and Georgia back to back in their schedule you have your biggest rivalry game followed by the best team in the country that's what do that's what that conference asks of you but what I think they showed and again you saw the the details up close just watching it they go into a hostile environment they're ahead of they're ahead of schedule and ahead of the chains all day they're in Michigan territory all day they're ahead on the scoreboard all day and that's just really difficult to do yep against a big- Time opponent like Michigan and that really impressed me that it was just I don't want to say no sweat because that's but it was as easy and comfortable comfortable is the right word it's as comfortable a dominating win as you're going to have on the road against an opponent such as Michigan and I think it says everything about where at the very early stage of the Season that the Texas is second year in a row week two they go last year they went to Tuscaloosa got a dub this year they go to an arbor get a even more impressive win and you know they're they're they're off and running but you said it yours is the guy who's got his hands on the wheel he's in charge of that whole gig and you're saying it's clear he leads that group yeah and and I mean I bet you if go back and watch ESPN this past week I bet you there was more segments talked about with Arch and what he looked like in the opener than there was Quinn and I think he takes not offense to it but like he's like okay go go ahead but I'm guess who's guess who's getting the first snap of the game I'm here and we're going to do this and the belief those guys have and and just talking to two you know guys on the staff at Texas he was humbled that first year at Texas you know you go back to that Bama game at Austin he gets knocked out he misses a bunch of time you know everybody's talking about his mechanics shark wasn't worried he knew what he had and over the course of time they were going to work on the mechanics and he's a million times better than he was and I tell you his arm strength and the arm angles that you know everybody you know uh you know gets gudy all all over he's got it man and that arm is strong uh you know he doesn't look like one of these NFL you know I always say damarino like a big 65 guy he doesn't look like that but that ball comes out and he throws a very very catchable ball uh and you saw those those balls to the end zone and then he's got to zip one in with the one before the half so everything they wanted to do I feel like they did and and shark was confident in his guys and that's that's a testament he wasn't afraid to talk about what how much he learned about his guys last year when they went to Bama and got it and that stuff is Big you I mean you hear coaches talk about all the time uh you know finding out what they got you find out when you go on the road their strengths are an offensive line and a defense those things are what you rely on when you go on the road because you need to have them and they showed up today they have athletes all over the place on defense so they are going to be recking with man and look you talk about an nil era team and I asked SAR the other night about it and he talked about culture and doing all these culture building things and you that's that's the biggest buzz word there is and it's the easiest thing I always say to put on a poster and put on your wall like culture well if it's I I think it's hard to it's hard to build it man guy you can you can put the Lamborghinis out front and they do down in Austin and they're going to be able to go out and get whatever and whoever they want you still have to make all the pieces fit and um and I think that's a challenge but they're they're not going to be outspent and they they're it's you saw it again you saw it from tackle to tackle and out wide and the guy under Center your was 24 or 36 26 or 34 or whatever it was 20 248 three touchdowns I think he started 20 and 22 again that's it they were they were ahead of schedule they were ahead of the chains they were constantly in Michigan territory they exerted pressure in Michigan I mean they're they're just not as Dynamic on offense you you lose as much as they did you know I mean yeah you you're you lose a hard ball and and you're and you're you're replacing it with youth and inexperience guess what those things those guys got to play correct and you know they get SC coming in in a couple weeks they get Oregon I'm interested to see they're going to only improve uh you know that and that defense is only going to get better but the way they still came out with pressures all that Texas handled it all and uh again is as impressive as anything we saw today but these are young people 18 to 22 23 is today was a cautionary tale about how difficult it is and you've heard coaches talk about it for decades nothing's different actually it is more diff it's different now because it's harder now social media nil dudes are already paid like one week's enough to to convince you oh I'm good yeah are you bowling look at the two teams last who were we raving about last week Penn State went to West Virginia really Penn State survives Bowling Green impressive Road DB Notre Dame went to College Station Road dub Big Time impressive Bowling Green in the first half did whatever it wanted against a really good defense and it's a perfect day and happy Valley you just beat West Virginia like this Bowling Green good it's they're down 10 yeah and they had offense they were ripping Penn State in half through the air the whole bit they're zipping it all over the place give the nits credit nitty Lions buckle up in the second half buckle down in the second half they get out with a seven-point win is it sexy is it impressive it's a hell of a lot better Northern Illinois STUNS Notre Dame than losing at the gun to Northern Illinois and let me tell you about that game and I didn't see a ton of it I did okay well you tell me Northern Illinois outgained him by a 100 they outp possessed him by 10 minutes what do I often say about an upset it's an upset but it wasn't an accident it wasn't like the ball bounced off somebody's foot some goofy play happens and how about Coach hammock like the the the video of him afterwards in tears that's the you and I are both and you you've lived it where you've been in the room with a coach like that that emotion the boys from dcal they're not supposed to go to Southbend and win they 28 point underdogs yep get the win and outplayed Notre Dame evidently and it like I had it on I went to College Park we'll talk about that speaking of roadwi salute go green go white um I'm still sick but Northern Illinois deserved to win that football game and they did yeah Scott they ran it down Notre Dame's throat I was there last week Texas A&M all these five stars they couldn't do a thing offensively Notre I I did a notame podcast for one of their sites this week and I'm just talking about these guys with the physicality these linebackers brought to the table and then I'm going through their years they sophomores and freshman and then Northern Illinois is just giving them a dose I think they ended up with 90 what they I'll look it up let's see I got it 190 yards rushing 45 Rush attempts they average 4.2 yards per carry against Notre Dame in their house who everybody had touted as possibly a team that's going undefeated and they had the worst home schedule they ever had they were worried about their fans showing up for games this year and I think I was the idiot I think I was the idiot last week saying well we got a direct line to the playoff and we know we know that crazy things happen but and this is why every Bozo hand up who says like that week one or two ought to have somebody throw rocks at their knees because this is going to happen because these are young people and by the way Northern Illinois got dudes on scholarship too guys that didn't get recruited to go to Notre Dame like okay this is my chance okay go ahead I just it was it was Unreal I go back to watching you know Navy go there and win Yukon went there once in one and just you when you go and play there there's a there's a sense where you have to bottle everything up and you cannot you cannot let it affect you emotionally you have to stick to your game plan you can't worry about all the freaking green you can't worry about the freaking leprechaun you can't worry about the fight song You Can't worry about everybody you know all in a great mood in South Bend and they did it the small one of the smallest schools that that they're going to play uh went there and did it and they just I mean there was a point two there's a fourth and two on like the five or six yard line it's a 10 they're up 107 and they kick a field goal and I could I didn't I didn't go on the phone purpose because I was behind the TVs on the plane were way behind my phone I was like I can't do this but I could only imagine what people were saying for the fourth down people like you're not going to beat Notre Dame if you don't go to kicking field goals isn't going to beat Notre Dame well you know what they did y you know what they did at the end they blocked one to win the game and yeah when it was scooting around on the ground it felt just like the App State uh Michigan that's all I you get a chance go back and listen to the NIU radio call it's fantastic I heard it I heard it like guys I I can't imagine what they've called but just the the exuberance of like that's it there's no Flags there's no review it actually happened and that that's why we love these Saturdays and it's just it's credit to the boys from the calb it it was awesome awesome awesome awesome it's the highlight of those guys lives and they'll never ever forget that and they went out and did it by themselves I remember I did Sports Center the Night App State beat uh Michigan the boys from Boon went into an arbor and one and I I remember on the Highlight after they blocked it and whatever I remember I just yelled out remember this day boys for it will belong to you forever and same deal for the Huskies yeah uh an absolute stunner again the emotion of Coach hammock afterwards both in the in the locker room with his guys on the field in the interview he say don't need no luck we didn't need no luck that's right exact that's what said you can't you you got got to go about your ways and not get caught with all that aura tell the book makers your lines are soft we don't need your charity money line he didn't say that obviously I'm just saying in general if you had them well done but I wrote down a and it's a partial list of Road dubs South Carolina, Cal earn huge road wins we're keeping an eye on some late night activity as well huh juny again the running back from boisey uh the the early window and afternoon Road dubs includes Texas we just discussed Northern Illinois we just discussed South Carolina goes to Kentucky which means game day is going to Colombia for the LSU visit that's a that's a uh and that was not a an offensive explosion for either side but they dominated ex dominated Cal goes to the planes and grabs a win a big ACC win for your conference Steve huh I I I I I got to say this okay I feel good for Cal I watch that game wait a minute wait a minute wait I I do I maybe it's the conference Chang in ACC I feel good for Cal someone get Max homo not not John calip Perry the dirty Golden Bears from B Stanford man back in the state of California just said who despises Cal to the core of his being more than anything that's cuz you respect the hell out of Wilcox coach w I love that guy and they they almost got it taken away Scott if you go back the the touchdown makes it 2114 they call they call right before it they call Pi on the kid from Cal in the end zone and he has an interception that's the fifth of the day there's no Pi it's just like two guys standing still it's a bad throw by Thorne and then it looks like the DB pushes off he doesn't he intercepts the ball uh Thoren scores next play I think and then C's got to run the clock out but again you can't think things are going to happen they had to get first downs and not give Auburn the ball back they did it and uh you talk about tough places to play like Cal I mean let's be honest in the Pack 12 there's nothing like going to that place they owned them owned them Jordan hair yeah no it's real down there man and and that's nothing that they're that they've really seen and they went in and they were and again like I'm saying like Northern Illinois they were better they were the better team for 60 Minutes no doubt and a wasn't even 100% then they got another running back that comes in Mendoza was fantastic um talking to coaches that have coached him before love the kid he just again he needed the play and uh I even I hate to say I kind of like Cal's uniforms too um but I don't know who's I don't know who this impostor is on the podcast but it's May because I'm back in the Bay Area that's the problem could be but but uh I I I'm not trying to be derog atory here I can't I can't remember another calwin that that big I I like going a road to the SEC like they don't have like they beat SC a couple times but like an a of Conference win where Cal we're talking about Northern Illinois is a massive double digit dog South Carolina was right around about a 10-11 and count a bunch of guys out today too they had five guys on offense out so was Cal so was Cal they were they were catching about a dozen down there from Auburn outright dub it pains me to do it I must acknowledge I was there to see it uh Michigan State Michigan State outlasts Maryland came into uh the snake pit and oh boy this was gross um Maryland's got a seven-point lead in the ball they're driving it's a fourth and one they elect to kick field goal it just misses from about 40 now it's a seven-point game uh Michigan state has a true freshman wide receiver number six he's the he's the adult in the number six yep eight for 194 Aiden Charles hit him on a absolute perfect dime now it's a tie game 77 yards it was iole and it yes it was with with the man who said it my little guy in their eyeh hole have some Mar's got it back driving fourth and one they elected Punt and I said this is this is a little bit troubling I had shout to to my guy top dollar AJ Francis was uh there I was chatting with him when this happened I said this is scary because that Michigan State Charles feel like they got a little momentum on their side they go down the field kick a field goal and they win uh add that to the list of Big Time Road dubs coach Smith and I I said what I say about him in Michigan State I said I'm glad Maryland I'm glad we're playing him early because I think that that's the kind of guy that's a program Builder he when they got him from Oregon State it felt like it's perfect for for them when dantonio and them had it going well like what they want to win rock fights well this is a guy that's I think he's a tough guy program Builder I think he's a excellent football coach and Charles they didn't look great last week against Fu no um well they uh they got something salute to them go green go white uh they came in and got a got a victory but again that just this this list of Road wins is it's incomplete but I I wrote down a number of them and I just happened to see the one and I want to acknowledge especially Charles and Marsh who uh who hung some big numbers um but the the the South Carolina win and where did you think you were going South Carolina made a STATEMENT to be in Kentucky for Georgia's visit is that where is that where game day kind of imp you guys just take people behind the curtain because I think they love that just you you always have a kind of a a list of games that are we might go here we might go there we might go there yeah and then and then and then how do how do how does this come together today well you're not going to you know you're obviously not going to go to Kentucky after they get beat it it was almost when we were all leaving an arbor it was basically if Kentucky wins we're going there because number one in the country is going to be on the road and we hadn't been there since 2007 Andre Woodson versus Tim tibo I believe was the matchup was a and we put it on at 3:30 I'm watching it and I'm like this it's done like I it before the half I think they got I think Kentucky got it to like four 106 106 was the time scor they they couldn't move the ball and man I want to remember this kid's name cuz we're going to he's an NFL first-rounder oh South Carolina South Carolina Harvey it's not Debo it's the other kid um if it's Harvey he's the kid from the DMV he's a single digit guy what school did he go to um I think it's friendship oh okay if we're talking about the same guy that guy that guy yeah he was unbeliev able and and uh to think he was playing against high school kids last year is very scary but he dominated that game dominated the game uh Kentucky couldn't do a thing offensively uh they were confident in Vandergriff uh he was a former big star recruit was at Georgia and they they couldn't get anything going uh and and that's a credit to South Carolina it's a it's a funky funky deal how you know all these preseason things come out and I was super impressed uh with South Carolina and they got the win and I was Oklahoma State wins 2 OT thriller over Arkansas super impressed with Arkansas and they lost that's a horrendous bad beat horrendous why what was your line I think the well where did it end I thought on game on game day I thought we had seven and a half somebody I think her somebody seven and a half Oklahoma State goes for two in in double overtime oh wait no no no that one that one Oak State wins to go for two and double overtime no more than that if you had AR well there were people that had Arkansas plus 7even and a half because on the on the uh on the on the bird I still consider it the bird x x going and give it to you I had a lot of people complaining that they had Arkansas plus 7even and a half that didn't get there as you're looking at the number whatever the math was on that you're right Arkansas was impressive but they end up losing in overtime I left I left one off that I had written down that needs to be recognized because it was a winner they get the shawk Iowa State rock a 20 to6 Iowa State wins Cy-Hawk game second half they outscore the Iowa uh that Iowa defense is rugged it always is they they hit a 54 Y at the gun and they had a very short little window of time I think they had like whatever that drive was it was like less than 30 seconds to get to within the distance to hit a 54 Y at the gun to to win as I mean obviously in the big you got a conference schedule ahead but if you're Iowa State and you've lost seven of eight and you can beat them like that that's as big a win as you're going to get and you go down I want to say 13 nothing it was it was down by they yeah they were down well yeah you know what it was they were down by 13 and as somebody said and I thought yeah you know you're right feels like you're down four touchdowns correct Iowa when you're down and and then you pile on what you just said how many they've lost to this team and and in that build they haven't been had any success but you know what they stayed in the fight they stayed in the fight and they made plays when they had to Roco gets the Deep ball that really silenced that place and got the momentum and I think belief in Iowa State like screw this we made it we just made a play we got to get we we're still down a possession let's let's figure it out and get it done their defense too was down a bunch of guys they lost their best defensive player last year last week for the year uh so I I it's it's a hell they Reese had the numbers today on game day what they were the last two years at one score games I think it was like one and nine uh so that's a credit to that again stay in the fight and and believe in what you got and and and and and good things will keep happening playing think about Campbell like Matt Campbell's a name that was that was the hot name yeah he's going to go to Michigan or us everywhere USC michig or if something happens in Franklin goes somewhere then Penn State I mean and then all of a sudden you're limping around and you're you're middle of the pack Conference team and your record's not great and that that's why it's tricky with with coaches you know when you when you have an opportunity when your stock is high it and you have an opportunity to to jump and capitalize cash and it's difficult not to because this is a difficult sport to maintain any kind of season to season continuity and momentum and um so for him for his team um for winners that was a that was a big one Speaking of was that Winners with an S yeah they're more than you know what you know what we had some clarity here and I'm sick to my stomach again South Carolina Cal Virginia who had a late Road dub at in Winston Salem all on the card didn't make it once again they picked against Arizona State they're and once again as we record this they're up by a billion and a I'm gonna just apologize to coach Dillingham I'm not doing it again what's my rule if I give out a if I give out a team twice and they get crushed twice then I will not give them out again well I can't be in a go- against spot against Sparky again I can't do it can't do it you didn't have Syracuse I did that and that I had them written down because in what what do we we talk about Texas and nil and portal and all this and that and like teams like them teams like Ohio State which I don't know that we need to talk about them but I'm watching them and they're like good God this is this is what they look like when they're cooking they've got so many dudes it's repugnant man God it's foul just an embarrassment of riches but that's what they're going to have that and it's going to be even worse because now just to talk Ohio State for 30 seconds they're pissed off that they haven't beaten Michigan they got people that got more money than God and they're like whatever the rumors are it's like 20s something Millions their is their cap well then yeah you better be good I mean you this is what you ought to be same with Texas but like what happens this does dub tail to Ohio State Syracuse gets huge win over Georgia Tech because you guys are like you know what K mcord stinks he can't do it oh you're you're trash Syracuse treasure he's played two games for Syracuse four touchdown passes in both Georgia Tech who starts its season beating Florida State and they get ranked they get a number next to them yeah all a sudden young people right you go from everyone thinks you suck to people are patting You On The Backs patting you on the ass going go get him what's the good word to hell with Georgia yeah Syracuse whatever okay that game got tight late Syracuse had to had to exhaust the clock in the end but they but they did yep and I just I just I don't know the first thing about mcord other than that I I am appreciate what the portal provides which is an opportunity to go to a place where it's not nearly the pressure or expectation of Ohio State M and I mean Syracuse now granted they've had some hot starts in the Wheels have fallen off but hey in Western New York or Upstate New York I always get confused if you're allowed to call that Upstate I'll just say Western and think that that covers it you're you're fired up if you're them um no doubt no doubt they were great I I thought it was a big spot uh guy Elijah Robinson came from A&M Fran Brown he's big time recruiter he recruited all those guys to A&M that are still there and still not there uh but he had never called defense before that's his second game calling a defense and against Georgia Tech offense that I saw in person against Florida state which is a bastard to prepare for with all the motions and shifts they do and they're up 3114 rolling uh so watch out Syracuse uh the schedule's not that tough uh and the N it's just we're all on that kind of like I don't know I mean Miami kind of hard they play Florida A&M I mean it's you're not playing a weight class game and that's why you know Old Miss same deal I mean they've whatever they've outscored their opponents by its a billion to whatever fine when when you play somebody like they play out wake next week all right that's at least in a peer group but uh yeah I I just ACC ACC feels kind of like H we'll see I I I when I grew up Syracuse Penn State BC was good oh yeah but but east I I told our boy Joe Joe Alano the director for Game Day was big Syracuse guy even has orange glasses he I said you just have to get Act to the point where Syracuse doesn't lose at home teams would go to the Dome back in the day and get run and I'm talking about SEC schools big 10 schools team would come there and just get they couldn't couldn't do it place with pack loud as hell back in the day wasn't that the famous one yeah Florida State used to go there I want to say Michigan um so they are on the trajectory in the right way and that's a that's a credit to that because it's it's that that fan base is so big and they're just looking for something and uh maybe they'll start going to games and making the Dome great again in the night window we had a couple of games that felt a bit like the Penn State game from early where it's you're looking at the score and if you're just if if if it's just passing by on the ticker you're like wait bam is ahead of South Florida by a point wait Alabama and Oklahoma avoid upsets wait wait Oklahoma is beating Houston by they're they're ahead by two me you and felica were texting this week about Houston and and I said that H felica is like I am giving out Houston I'm like I can't do it I know they have to be right but I watched them last week against UNLV because I gave out UNLV and they they debacle Houston and I said I also watched OU against Temple I can't give out Houston well it's a four quarter fight Oklahoma hang on for dear life they get a late safety they win but not by a lot M Bama ends up scoring I think it was three touchdowns in like the last two minutes and I had a dear friend who you know well who may have a radio show locally here in DC who called me to say if Alabama scores another touchdown it's the worst Beat of My Life they didn't but again it's sort of the it's sort of the same idea as Penn State what are we doing Notre Dame what are we doing if you're OU or Bama or Penn State these weren't the wins you expected to get but at least at least you put them in the left-hand column they don't go in that horrible right-hand column like like Notre Dame had uh and then a team that that didn't come close to being on the wrong end of it they just open up an absolute can in Charlotte and that's Tennessee and boy do they look the part I said it the other I said this is Tennessee annihilates NC State scary we on if you're not familiar with the I I assume if you're listening to this pod you you're familiar with the winter segment we hold on to your butts hotti b the today on uh Tennessee breaking down that offense and what he and I ended up talking about off air yesterday was just about how improved they are defensively uh but they that system man you they stretch you sideline to sideline goal line to goal line and how he was talking about it was it's a very convenient offense for the quarterback they take a lot of the pre- snap stuff out and it's basically counting numbers and that's what they're going to go with because you got to be able to play sideline to sideline with your secondary and if there's just if you're not good in space they expose you and over the test of time you do that and like you talked about it it's a wave it's an avalanche whatever you want to call it but when it's when it's humming and you're on your heels you're in big big trouble and uh NC State just got exposed and couldn't couldn't keep up for 60 Tennessee has a monster monster trip to Oklahoma in two weeks I just looked at that that's actually the 21st of good and I think tonight what what I saw watching that shadur Sanders is under duress again and that's because I think they still I don't know that they stopped calling the defense black shirts and and Lincoln forever the defense was the black shirts whatever they call them the front was in an absolute freny trying to get to the ball and they're color Colorado's not horrible they're just not that good and they're going to continue to lose games they're going to lose more games and when they do and people ask you questions they're not haters they're ask you about it because you got all this attention and if you're not that good then people are going to say well how come you aren't that good um so th those two storylines come out of tonight's game and I mean Vegas clearly thought it was going to be that they Colorado was a I mean well Colorado was a dog Nebraska was a favorite and they were right um so I think it'll be very interesting Steve to see where both schools go from here Nebraska's been wanting a Launchpad win like this they get it now they got a couple of couple of road games coming up here in conference it'll be tough uh and then where's what's Colorado do with with this with this game because if people are haters then they're just going to come for you and if people ask legitimate questions then they're just trying to ask legitimate questions but they're going to come I was thinking about this today um regarding Nebraska because the thing that stuck out watching that game was how physical they were they're running back oh their running backs punished people when they were running running the football their defense was knocking the snot out of guys and it made me think about like you know you remember Nebraska oh yeah I remember nebras I remember a lot of different versions of Nebraska Steve I'm an old guy no no no but listen this is this is what I want to say how do you explain how they used to beat teams in the big eight like I want to say murder but like yeah that's pulverize like yeah like remember Wy coyote like when an they they they did to people what what what happened to the Wy coyote anvils on your head hammers on your toes they would just pound you into dust no one no one gave them a game besides Oklahoma Oklahoma and maybe Colorado at the end that was it yeah it was that was it because it was the big eight and and I'm I'll say say this the league wasn't great but they would go they would go play out of conference they' go home in homes they'd go get teams out west but they would pulverize teams and just beat you into Oblivion that that that at the end was was what everybody remembers was that game uh where they they they punish Florida uh but but just the years of what like poor Missouri like this 70 to nothing Kansas like come on Kansas State they would crush those teams and I just I just think about those guys and in that team and and what those people love so much and I I'm not saying it was even in the same tier but the way rule had play them playing so physical there was an angst ofu how they played when they went there last last year I think they Pride themselves on on being more physical uh when they knew they could be more physical against a team like Colorado so that's all all I care about in that game is talking about who won the game that's Nebraska and they deser I agree I'm just listen I and I feel the same it's just we understand where where it'll go from here is that that I mean it it if there are people and and listen there are definitely people that are haters I mean Christ social media just there are people that are haters and this just gives fuel to them but they'll be also people that ask questions and say where are you guys going to go from here and then where and you know what they can do they can answer the critics and they can shut up all the haters if they if they go somewhere positive from here and perhaps they will Nebraska has a real chance look at their schedule I know they don't play I don't want to say anybody but it's doesn't get re the hill doesn't get steep should be undefeated when they go to Columbus that's it they right around Halloween they go to Columbus and then we'll see what you got they will ask difficult questions of you now you do play some teams in the interim that you know you still got to beat people I think that it would be it would be a Fool's errand to go from saying man it's great that Nebraska's better to just handing them wins presuming that they're just going to just win games when yeah they haven't shown over the course of time that they're able to do that they look they didn't have to win a closed game tonight because they were up by so much um and also to that point just look what happened today in the sport like it's is the 1500 that's what she swam okay but in college you swim the Thousand which is basically 40 laps or the 1650 and so I did the thousand and she swam at a nine and change and I broke 2130 so she beat me just C just clipped You by Me by 12 and a half minutes yeah it's just it's good F imagine you imagine being in the pool she can get out go shower and leave the pool and I would still be out make an omelet right I mean I mean you could do a lot of stuff in 12 and a half minutes my shout out by the way is to Tommy Frasier uh the 96 Fiesta Bowl for the youngsters that don't know that's the because he still wanted me to go on my official visit to Gainesville and I will say this is the Monday morning after I came back from visit from Stanford and was in awe of Stanford and by the time I left New York City and got home all I was thinking about was now I'm going to go to Florida I did not get I did not get those flights because I think they were about $2,000 each and traded some phone calls with Coach never even went on the visit there and uh that's why I'm not a Florida Gator but um that's that's that's a true story but yes people just go back and watch I I remember Tom Osborne would recruit me too and they just yeah what did he want you to be uh I think no not probably like a the best player in our league went there and started at linebacker for him and I was like he was freak Tony Ortiz played played in the league for a little bit uh Freakazoid but when he came to Antony he got he got it given to him uh but Tom was you know he came and spoke at their banquet so he would see the tape and then they started recruiting me I was the year after Tony and they they had just finished their new weit room and it was just like pictures of like Zack weager like Google that Washington DC I was like I'm just gonna go to Maryland it's it's fine we'll be good he's like well you can take classes at Maryland at Consortium with us I'm like coach this is a private school and you guys don't really have scholarships so I or I could go to Maryland and it's like I mean you a back in the day you you know what I found out today that the N there was 70,000 applications to Maryland last year and the average GPA weighted GPA is 4.5 how much would your GPA weigh that down I had a I think I had I got some bees I mean lit literally when I was in like when I was in high school if you wanted to go to Maryland if you didn't have a record if you hadn't if you hadn't been a if you didn't have a case you hadn't done an eight-year bid for a breaking and entering and you on let me let me ask you this do you like college Overton if you like do I like it no but it's needed okay all I'll say is this but I agree with what you're going to say because I've heard your stance on this for a long time well football was a timed game played on a 100 yard field and then you go to overtime and it is there is no clock and The Field's 25 yards long there's a reason that when you get to the Red Zone it's a big deal there's a Red Zone Channel which when you get in the scoring area it's a big deal you should have to do something to get there you could have three straight incompletions and and do nothing and have a 42 yard field goal attempt to say nothing of the fact that by the time time you get to the third overtime then it is a further bastardized version of football where you just go for two point conversions that's nonsense is what it is it's nonsense oh but it's so exciting you could shoot off fireworks in your kitchen it would be exciting you wouldn't do it I mean it's just dumb Time game 100 yard field overtime nope no clock 25 yards this is great no it isn't it's exciting I I agree I just play football keep playing football amazing how many
