Introduction [Music] hi there welcome it's SVP with Stanford Steve I Scott Bal football season schedule we believe will look mostly like this thanks to all of you that checked out the college football recap the late night Saturday night early morning Sunday and Shout to our people behind the scenes we had some technical situations to work through I'm asleep they weren't so we appreciate everybody grinding it out to get that out but Saturday nights for Sunday morning for college football and Tuesdays will be starting next week we'll have an entire week of NFL to react to We will be coming back from Monday Night Football Jets 49ers countdown Kelsey in the building we start that off Tuesdays will be what we'll do so it'll be Saturday nights Tuesdays moving forward would you see if we could tape on the plane next Tuesday that'd be fun I'm I'm all for that we'd be done when we land right F out make use of our time if not that's okay lot of NFL to get to I've written down quite a bit but we begin with can I just say something about NFL please it's like it's like a new phenomenon I shouldn't say new phenomenon because like fantasy people get so mad how long you been doing Fantasy 4 how long you been I started back then where what site it's like relax dude but the idea of grown men having fantasy football drafts and kids going back to school is like a drug it it's unbelievable how happy guys are like n I'm you want to go for lunch yeah we got to talk we got to do some mocking gotta mock uh it is it is a feeling it's it's a feeling that I just laugh and then I also think about because it's a huge majority to minority now the majority is fantasy like walk into a bar Fantasy draft season is the best and that's that's that's the interesting thing I'll have on Sundays why I love it because people are crazy well they root for their team which isn't which isn't that's it it's it's not their team that exists in the real world it's the team that only exists on their screen so again red Zone's on every channel I would like to watch a game once in a while my my personal thing but this idea of fantasy guy and gal against non fantasy guy or gal it's like people talk about about Pace scales and stuff and people talking down to people it's like what do you even do in the in the during the season like they talk down to non- Fantasy person more and they just laugh at him like you're not in fantasy I uh I find it very interesting as a as the majority grows to widen the Gap well it includes me and as we've covered here through the years the the morphing of Me no one heckled fantasy more than me no one fantasy Geeks I call called you like losers I just I mocked the whole thing my the reason was as I would often point out if you want to have an interest in the game then take the four and a half you're in and you're out by by four o'clock and now tonight Tuesday the 3 of September I will finish up my fourth draft the league that you're in you have the first pick obviously CAC I don't know come on there's no need for this possible possible p look at you over there hamstring he practiced today look at you on it's on the internet no I'm Fuller no I'm on four teams I thought it was five you got rid of one I'm in four teams all a zillion dollars there some higher sticks things take the four and a half I got over over under four and a half leagues right I've gotten some very bad draft grades you get the draft grade all the draft grade means is did you take who our fantasy experts say You're supposed to take and as Steve points out how about we come back at the end of the year when you said don't take these 10 busts and they turn out to be great players shut the up you don't know any better than anybody else all those gambling people out there got people keeping our records exactly let's go back and check the fantasy grates that' be fun two and four and winners not very good but we I just see week two ahead exactly we trudge forward um but you know what I'm saying the whole vibe of everything right everybody's in it it's nuts right before before we came on for some reason I played a little jaw rule we we up my LSU fans are something else baby and that takes me back to a place in time in in Vegas late nights bad decisions were made repeatedly everybody's been there yeah but boy that it was so much fun speaking of Vegas that's why they're the best the LSU people oh God just grown men busting out a trumpet horn and just playing neck and and everybody that doesn't know any better they're like yay and then there like suck that t who what's going on but those people they could have double fisted noise all over the place all they have to hear is that last d da da and then they just go into there hey and boy oh man uh Matt that had to be a new top tier worse airport environment that redey home to New Orleans after that game all right so God bless the the stewardesses back going back to when Jah Rule was in every collab and I would be in McCaron some morbidly obese person smoking Newports with an oxygen tank pulling the handle and I'm and I've said this before and I'm looking at that guy going I'd rather be him I'd rather be him he didn't sign for any markers he didn't maybe hallucinogenics who knows and you look at that guy and you go yep like his bad as it is like at least he he's going to be all right I don't know if I'm goingon to make it those Lai Sho people and it's a labor day so it's an extra day but if anybody is built for it oh no shout out to Red Stick shout out to Lil velvet shout out to all our friends down there y'all will be all right although coach Kelly was little little pissed off I don't blame him man you got to you got to keep your Poise did you ever go in the smoking section with the slot machines at McCarron no I I don't I I did like see there's Lev there there's levels to this like I'm a degenerate but I I mean I don't I haven't bet Kino at a live place at or at an OTB you're missing out dude all due respect I'm sure it's magnificent didn't go into the smoking section of the yeah so that's the LSU post game good for good for USC they played they they played man what a uniform game oh my God it was really Exquisite that was Sunday night Monday night as we put a bow on week one whoa Florida State we Florida State…What is happening? need to we need to huddle up we need to take a 20 make it a full um you know you spent an entire off season being mad at us and blaming us my colleague Herby like everything was our fault your lot in life was because of us and you were mad and you were going to make it your own personal mission to go to Dublin and Heckle Herby for three hours and you did and then you take an L to Georgia Tech but it's okay mhm you're going to come home you're going to regroup you're a 17-point favorite against against BC it's a Get Right game or you get run on for 270 ends up being 263 because they take knees they took Mercy they could have scored or tried to they didn't uh coach OB Bill O'Brien said we're good we'll take it on back to Chestnut Hill with the dub and now now you've turned your anger inward because you're upset with your quarterback I I don't know if you're mad at your coach I haven't checked see um I don't celebrate the misery I'll just say after you came for all of us it's not heartbreaking to see the struggles MH because you blamed everybody else and this is the last time I'll say it the last time I said it I said was the last time I said it any fan base would have been angry about last year the way it happened anyone I do not ever blame you for that but hanging on to that and being that mad this year it's this year so this year you're 0 and2 and you're scheduled you got Memphis next yeah it's you got Clemson you got um they play not Dame yeah at Notre Dame November and Miami yeah and then everybody's making fun of all the Florida game look there's there's a bunch of Pros in that game so let's not act like that that's some bot feed bottom feeder game it is not and Florida State's not terrible they're just right now they're not cohesive and they're not good well they don't do anything well offensively that's they have to find a way to do that and I norell that he'll do that so good luck to you you're own two in the ACC though the sell after week one is hey you can still find a path to the playoff becomes a whole lot more complicated when you when you drop two and and they're in your they're in your league um but it's I mean they you said it perfectly they they just don't do anything well no U unay missed a wide open guy that would have cut it to I think 1410 they had a bunch of drops but when a team comes in and just emasculates You by running it down your neck and and your defensive front was lauded this is a really fascinating case and point of what the modern situation is going to be thinking that you can just put it together on the Fly you're going to see it in basketball happen easier because you've only got to get a couple guys to to to to jail they lost a ton of talent to the NFL mhm and to just think that it will this is why people knock uh Dabo for not messing with the portal at all there is room between none and two much but you've got to get it right and I think that's going to be tricky I think it's going to be tricky to you're going to have to find people that fit in with your group that that are going to be comfortable with whatever their role is ETC it's it's going to be hard to do but um I don't know man that was uh it's a pretty stunning start one of the No Doubt one it's it's really early to be making proclamations that definitively but nobody had Florida State 0 and2 no no one no and it's real early for it to feel this tenuous so still time still time and still a bunch of people on your schedule you can beat or they could beat you and then who the hell knows where we go um the college slate this week I there's Top CFB Week 2 storylines it's a it's there's only really I I wrote three games down the Texas Michigan game the NC State Tennessee game and Colorado Nebraska game there's a there's some early conference games I think will give us an idea of some teams mhm probably want to talk draft who are you taken who was that one of our guys three-time Champion oh Nance okay hi Nance other than that other Giant games yeah I think Oregon coming getting off the mat they with Boise how I I don't understand I do understand but Rees and I are on the sideline Saturday night and we're looking at that score and he's like let me he's like Gabriel has 31 completions they have 500 yards of offense how their red zone offense was just atrocious uh and so that's a big thing you talk about these spreads you just talked about Florida State making changes making it work that's a big deal because the oh how do they say it age old deal age old saying yeah is get spread teams in the red zone and now they don't have they don't have the room to take the top off so now you can play more of that East West and it could have been that uh but I look at Oregon and Boise Boise was everybody's darling to start the year um to be that G5 school that makes it no they have jany the running back who was unbelievable against Georgia Southern 2676 tutters if you missed it six six TS uh so uh Georgia Southern covered thank you super dog appreciate that another one anyway uh but for Boise to go down to musty Statesboro and now go to Eugene I really am interested to see what Oregon brings to the table I think Utah uh hosted Baylor it's not a conference game this was scheduled before uh against Baylor who's a team where Randa was on the hot seat Baylor measured stick two touchdown game I think that's very interesting uh what else we got uh Georgia Tech Georgia Tech Georgia Tech Syracuse you have mcord the transfer from from uh Ohio State who looked very good and they're and season opener there look there's some conference games like that where hey maybe Georgia Tech they could get to 3-0 and they would they'd be 2-0 in the league if they could do that I just think from a from a Yeah Yeah from from glamour perspective look Texas hammers Colorado State and Michigan in the end the final looked much much um worse than it actually was they get a pick six late Fresno as we pointed out tough as Nails you got to kill them 10 times to kill them no doubt and that that's I get it Michigan didn't steamroll them but they weren't playing some bum ass team like Fresno's Fresno can play so I think I just know right now I'll have I'll have Michigan and winners just on General princip State almost certainly um and I'm I'm nothing if not Nebraska I don't know I'm I'm hardheaded that much that yeah right be early for a favorite but I'm look it's the Texas Michigan game becomes interesting it adds a layer just cuz it's the SEC Big 10 are the are clearly the power conferences in America that's an an in an in sectional if you will of that so we get narratives the SEC didn't play great last week in the Big Time spots they went they lost three games in the in the big glamour games um so this I mean if if you're interested in that particular narrative um I think you can make that fit whatever you want it to fit but they lost games uh I'm not trying to Def act like they didn't they did Tennessee looked great but much like the Texas game I don't know how much I'm supposed to take out of that they go to North Carolina where they play an NC State game NC State didn't look good for much of that game against Western Carolina um their quarterback wasn't great but the last 15 minutes state does what they're supposed to do they win huge spot for NC State look the ACC has seen other than Miami there's there's not any gigantic like statements it's very early but that that would be one and then Colorado Nebraska you know the 's got to stop crying about people rooting against him and people being mad he just complains about everything just never stops complaining people aren't allowed to ask questions I talked about this on Sports Center like you're allowed to have people be critical of you and and not say they're haters and it's just that's not that's a it's just not you you got to be an adult and deal with what comes with it which you're going to get there's going to be scrutiny there's going to be questions you don't like and they just he seems to live in a Perpetual state of of being slighted or or whatever and this is a gigantic game for both teams because all these people that you think are rooting against you or whatever else well go beat Nebraska they haven't beaten anybody in a decade MH on the other side Nebraska they get rayola looks the part they've been waiting forever we lauded them on the Pod the other night or at some point about no fan base has been more supportive and loyal in the face of no reason to be that and this is their chance then they are starving as you said yeah starving for a moment like this where if they could if they win it with everybody watching well all right it it gives you it's a step in the right direction and I think rule will get there I think rule will get there at Nebraska hell he did it at Temple he did it at Baylor um so that game is fascinating I think shador and Hunter are going to do their thing cuz I think they're going to do their thing against everybody all year M just the question is their defense didn't stop North Dakota State a ton and so is Nebraska's offense real I don't know we'll find out I don't know how much we know about them after they played UT yeah that's this what we want they Colorado wants to go out and prove people wrong now they get a chance to go on the road and now we get a chance what everybody uh that all the people that are rooting against them get to see them on the road is what it's what everybody wants so when you look at it I think you get a real test of how much improved Colorado is because I do think they are improved now you go prove it uh Nebraska had plenty of chances in the game last year it was kind of the same circumstances was like is Colorado really going to be this uh well Nebraska's coming and Rule's a good coach and and then Nebraska just couldn't get out of their own way not in that game and Colorado took advantage of it which was credit to them so yeah really interested to see uh that game uh IAM malava niiko I think I'm just going to go Nico no come on just just do it yeah malava yeah I know I know how to say his I know how to say his name you could do it uh well people are going to learn how to say his name because he's the guy and that's NC State say what you want Doran is a fantastic defensive coach yep so we're going to see some things to try and slow down that Tennessee offense the thing about Tennessee which I don't think you could feel like you could say going back to like the Al Wilson days they got some guys on defense that could carry them in a in a situation like this neutral sight in Charlotte it'll be I would guess 50/50 both awesome fan bases but in a in a sense where NC State might slow down Tennessee's offense I look at Tennessee's defense to come up big in this game and then Michigan watched it I I I can't get over the things I I've I saw in that game 44 bres he's their HB fullback he got depleted on first goal line snap I I've never seen him get hit like that before uh guard whiffs on a pass Pro you didn't see that for three years with how good that offensive line is Coulson lovelin is awesome uh I'm not ready to go with my tight end Power Rankings yet but he is up there and what's awesome is the way they uh got him the football he's their guy that's that's the like you go you turn on Michigan you're like where's where's where's Corum uh you know where are all these guys they're gone yeah JJ McCarthy's gone so um I'm really interested to see that I still believe Michigan will rely on that defense but the problem with sark's offense is that he stretches you sideline to sideline and and end zone to end zone so Michigan's going to really uh see what they have defensively got they got studs at every level and they always play great de team defense this is to me is about Texas's defense they have to go there and play well with the changes that they made uh against a team that is better in Colorado State we have Saron Sports Center coming on Thursday night look forward to chance to uh visit with him and or maybe it's Wednesday night Wednesday night or Thursday Wednesday I beg your pardon it's Wednesday night we'll visit with uh Texas head coach Steve sarkeesian they had a shut over Colorado State one of the second biggest shut out in 100 years little be a little different as they love what they did in the portal replace I mean you might talk about Team Speed they're receiver I mean in a in a day and age where they had guys that would run down the field and they would throw it to them now they got guys all over the field where they catch it and watch out Texas Michigan Tennessee NC State Colorado and Nebraska put those three Mar Michigan State yeah game repping the dirty turs to great on tape when you when you lose say little when you win say less right that's what coach Coro teaches us then we got some Sunday football go ahead Thursday and Friday football understood I want to start with Ravens vs. Chiefs TNF preview a Thursday game Kansas City and Baltimore and a reminder that at times last year starting with the opener at home against Detroit where they lost the Monday night game against uh Philadelphia where we were there in the rain where they lost a Christmas Day game at home against the Raiders where they lost there were many times last year where Kansas City looked not pedestrian but not great and then another parade in Kansas City it's a reminder that what we see Thursday what we see Friday with Green Bay Philadelphia what we see Saturday what we see Monday with San Francisco and the Jets to wrap up week One MH it it needs to be divided in two and diluted my grandma used to say with the tea you got to cut the tea right can't can't just drink straight tea you got to cut it a little bit of water you got to cut it got to cut it and take a deep breath I there's a lot I don't know that I wrote down this week I I I believe this to the point that I know it I know Baltimore and Kansas City are good teams and the results that happened Thursday night are not going to sway me one way or another about what they are I want to just before we look forward to this year stop and own something that I certainly held on to for quite a long time for the longest time Steve what did I say about Mahomes I just want to see him have to go on the road and I wasn't saying that I didn't think he'd win on the road but I if I'm being honest I thought he might lose on the road and I wanted and it so much was just being anointed oh he's better than Brady he's that they don't even people don't even acknowledge Montana CU they're not old enough to know him he just put on this shelf and I'm like settle down like go on the road it's part of the process and at some point it's not just the arrowhead Invitational and they went on the road and played the two teams that I wanted to see them play on the road Buffalo and Baltimore beat them both and at some point this is a chance to say it I was just wrong about whatever it is I guess I doubt I guess I had and it's not that I didn't think and by the way they ended up they they survived Baltimore largely they didn't score in the second half cuz they didn't have to cuz their defense was great too it's just and I'm sure Patrick Mahomes isn't sitting around waiting for that last little piece of credit as if it matters but I I think that that I just was I thought that he could be beat on the road in the playoffs and last year against the teams I thought could do it they didn't I don't think you doubted them you just wanted to see it yeah but I had the same exact thing with Tom Brady will he ever go on the road yeah all Steelers teams that came they were going to win in New England they never got there and then at the end and maybe what was his best ones he goes to Kansas City and beats Mahomes as a as a first year guy when you know they had to go there and and the you know questionable call whatever Brady went there and did it and then at Tampa he went to Green Bay and did it like we just there's a there's a sense it's it's in a different way to me both these both these teams the Ravens and the Chiefs are in the Yankees and do rers uh perspective for me in what way I'm not going to overreact to anything I see in the over in the regular season all the playoff yes got it and I think Lamar and the Ravens team is even more so now because you got exactly what you wanted last year you put together a great regular season you get the home field and what did you do with it you you you played probably your worst game not probably by far I it's a it was a baffling game I think going back someone watched some of it Kansas City went right down the field and scored and that was a historic defense last year Baltimore was historic they went right down the field and scored on them and I think it spooked Baltimore I think it just spooked them I think they weren't ready to see a team come out be the aggressor take it to them it went for it on a fourth down Kelce made a big time catch and it just set a tone and then of course flowers has the ball knocked out by sne an incredible play on the goal line would have been a three-point game uh there's two sides the football you know Mahomes is always going to get all the credit and he should but spagnola's defense was spectacular uh in that game and so this is a rematch it'll do nothing to change what happened last year it's a regular season game but th those are two good teams yes there's and the result whatever it is will'll be entertaining but it's not going to be a referendum or or anything that changes what I think of either team um Green Bay Philly I believe are two good teams as well love got the de in Packers vs. Eagles preview the off season they beat the crap out of Dallas in the playoffs they had San Francisco in a in a on the ropes in a game San Francisco Green band Detroit probably better for for bigger chunks of both games they they ended up winning them both on their home field I think those are two good teams as well but I do want to see what what's Love's stack on top of last year you know what I mean was that I mean he got paid like that like that this is going to be the progression um I don't have as much I don't I haven't seen enough from them to S to feel the same way as I do about Baltimore and uh and Kansas City to be sure but I think clearly those are two of the two of the best teams in the NFC do you feel the same yeah I'm I'm All Eyes On The Eagles for me because of you talked about how love in that team ascended and how Phil I mean we were there for a couple of them I mean good Lord uh being in Tampa as just no motivation just felt like they were going through the motions and we're sitting there in halftime third quarter I'm like they're going to lose this game yep and it's over it's over there the the run that they had and the hurts and then and then you know Kelsey retires Fletcher Cox retires and that's to me the biggest thing about the Eagles those are two monsters in your locker room monster guys and everybody talks about the leadership Jaylen Herz goes out and he does it you know he competes in the weight room people love that as a team now it is officially Jaylen herz's team and now we're going to really see what this Eagles team becomes whether it's positively or negatively but even more of the onus and I've said it before he's probably my favorite athlete the way he handles himself and he carries himself on and off the field but now he has to take it to another level as far as the leadership because you don't have two of your biggest voices veteran guys on both sides of the ball and now it's your team you're the face you get paid for it now let's see it and I'm I'm really really interested it's my number one player that I want to see this year and how what happens to him because he has all the goods and I thought he did a great job of taking the onus last year so Jaylen Herz is the guy that I have all eyes on this year we we totally agree and I think that's so well put about him I I have I so appreciate this is what I was talking about with Dion earlier which is so interesting because this is a guy that that's dealt with people coming at him his whole career and shut all of them up Hall of Famer one of the greats of all time so it's like if people are critical like who gives a like just keep it moving you're you and what Herz has done in Philadelphia okay yeah well they will come after you all right I don't want to be an all right but not really bad at the end of last year and what is hers do he's like CEO he's buttoned up he'll wear it eat it however you want to put put it in in such a mature professional way I have such an admiration for that but in a locker room can you be the guy that when the door shuts and it's just the men in the room MH can you can you lead in a way where a Kelsey or a Fletcher Cox could and I think that's a question and you you hear it said often about players in in a lot of different sports he's just not a a vocal leader and not everyone can be but I think what I hear you saying is it's time for him to be yeah it's I mean plenty of I mean you talk about how fast that Eagle's train has gone with serani being in Kansas City him asking people what's up now walking out the tunnel and Arrowhead and not even two months later you're home like that was just and it kind of just went by the wayside because as you're sitting there like oh yeah they'll figure it out they've went to the Super Bowl last year another loss yeah they'll be all right we were at the Seattle game we were there for that for Monday night and that was one of those Gino was hurt like lock comes in and leads him like 90 something yards and that was one where I never thought Philly was going to lose until that last Drive where you could feel and what a scene that is in Seattle the 12 shout to you man that was cool to see it live moonshine moonshine one of the great barbecue places in America if you're in Seattle by all means head head north or west or wherever the hell it is Edmond there you go you could feel it coming and then iniga made a catch and it then it was over it was one of those deals were when that when they lost that that's where I thought you know what this it may be all unraveling and again we were there for that Tampa game and from the jump from the jump it was just clear and it's so wild because a couple of years ago Philly played in Tampa when it was ahead of schedule and they played Brady and it was a game where you never expected them to win cuz they weren't supposed to they were huge dogs and they they got beat mhm well this is one where they were in the Super Bowl a year ago and you people still kind of beli in I'm like I'm not MH and then the game starts you're like that's this is why I remember asking Troy afterwards I said you know what's funny about this game is the team that had won five of six played exactly like a team that won five of six that was Tampa and a team who had lost five of six played exactly like a team who lost five of six and that was Philly but it was hard to I think rill's always talked about this how hard it is to change what you believe you know and I think Philly earned people's trust and then by the end of the year they' done plenty for to to lose it so I think it's the hardest thing to do in the NFL what like I'm thinking here now we're going to do an NFL recap podcast every week it's going to be I've prided myself on not overreacting you know I say it all the time right but this this league and the way the schedule is and the way no one does anything the hardest thing to do you have absolutely no freaking clue cuz people don't pre-season's pointless no one does anything um so here's what I wrote down we're talking about some things that we think we know right I think I know uhhuh all right you think all four of those teams are playoffs I'll say right now no simply because there's always something only because of this something something happens every year there's more turnover in the National Football League in terms of of playoff teams than than any other sport so something goofy will happen of course I think they all are but one of them won't we don't know why is there an injury who knows Pittsburgh Atlanta is Russell Wilson against Kirk How will Russell Wilson & Kirk Cousins look on new teams? Cousins and so much of what we see are through the lens of quarterbacks but is Atlanta going to ascend because they have cousins I don't know he he had an ailles has we just assume we're going to see him on Sunday and then he's a guy maybe we both sat here and thought Fields would be the guy in Pittsburgh yeah I wonder I don't know Wilson's one of the captains I don't know I mean that's a really interesting fit personality-wise Mike Tomlin and Russell Wilson like they couldn't be more diametrically opposed you know like let's ride and all like that that that was a whole manufactur that ain't going in Pittsburgh no because the standard is a standard means the standard is the standard okay that's that's real we didn't just make that up for marketing that's a that's a really interesting I just I'm trying to imagine how that conversation goes and I'm picturing the I don't think it's a conversation well the the resting scowl on Coach tomlin's face looking at a guy like I I'm I'm guessing that they just listen you don't need to come up with any Pittsburgh thing because that we won't be doing that uh but he's the starter there and I don't know I don't know where's the game I have no idea okay Pittsburgh and Atlanta I'm guessing why would I guess we can look it up it'll take one second it's in Atlanta okay I I don't know how that impacts anything probably better for cousins not you don't want to be in the have Renegade playing and all those people downtown going nuts but I don't have one freaking idea what either one of those guys is going to be I don't know don't know they both got weapons I like Atlanta's better than Pittsburghs uh okay all right London pits beon that's a nice little Trio n back bounce back here this year I'm rooting for him I'm rooting for him everybody's everybody's everybody's ton Warren is the B is a guy there got a draft tonight who you taking um what pick you got I'm seven I know who I'm hoping Falls to me at seven we'll see uh Other NFL Week 1 storylines Tennessee plays to Chicago Bears Caleb Daniels Caleb Daniels gets going Bears Tennessee's defense has got some adults on did you see the roster turnover over for the Titans it's you talk about different teams it's incredible it's nuts incredible coaching staff included yeah that too and Vel I think I think they were took on the personality of Coach Vel dip in the upper and lower decks M Caleb goes against Tennessee Jaden Daniels goes against Tampa Bay on the road of Caleb Daniels J excuse me Caleb Williams and Jaden Daniels I made them a superpowered mashup who do you believe has the better opening impression Caleb Williams because why he's not coaching he's not going against Todd Bulls I love Todd BS uh I believe on Chris Long's podcast last year it was like week Baker Mayfield now Canales is at Carolina uh now they bring in Liam as the OC Camp is going to be a factor uh I don't know if they could be as successful as they did last year last year was a big part was winning the games you're supposed to which is the most matter OFA thing to say but it's the most important thing in this league because if you do that you you you get rid of so much crap where it's you know naysayers saying who should be starting at certain positions all you win the games it's way quieter and you go about your business uh I I think you saw that with the Giants the year before with d and you know like let me ask you a question let me ask a question if you're the Tampa Bay Tampa Bay Buccaneers like win the games you're supposed to win that Conference Division I should say year in and year out I don't know how you know what games you're supposed to win because there's typically so much turnover I mean look speaking of bounceback here Carolina nowhere to go but up for for uh the rookie Bryce young and they they've got more weapons than whatever else but winning the games you're supposed to win when you're Tampa Bay like last year I I think they won far more games than anyone thought they were supposed to win but and and there's so many I mean how many times are we going to see the we make fun of it all the time NFL it's uh 10 seven or three are point spreads right and those three-point games they're always coming down to it coin flip games that's what I always call them and those those are the games you you play well you should you should win that game and those are the games you have to take advantage of and Tampa I mean what the stat forever was somebody knew won that division forever every year right exactly it it's constant turnover there this reminder as it relates to Daniels and Williams the rookie quarterbacks that went one two or actually in that case the way I said it was 2-1 you know they they know who we mean they Stroud's opener last year he threw for 262 zero touchdowns now granted that was against Baltimore and as we pointed out that that turned out to be an historic defense in terms of points and yards the whole bit sacks um but what stra did last year that was remarkable was he protected the football I looked it up five picks mhm Williams and Daniels will have more than five picks because that that that kind of ball security is rare and strad was great at that so what I'm saying is if either struggle if both struggle everyone will freak out and turn it into oh it was a reach it was a disaster um just Stout ended up winning a playoff game and came back to Baltimore for a playoff game nobody had that on their card week one we still thought the Texans stun because they stunk as it turned they didn't they they became different shout out too Ryan St was but you know their defense will Anderson I could keep going there no need you know what you know what I'm getting at it was just a total change uh for them and that that happens in the NFL a complete change and you wonder could it happen in Chicago the pieces that they added um you like Williams better than Daniels for this for in that week one match I do now I will say going back I remember getting our researchers on this a long time ago the Hard Knocks team week one is the most bet on team and I think that's the case again this year so just take Tennessee for your lungs winers going to have NFL teams this year probably not although I don't know for week one start I could go high school give me an Ansonia line against W against wett which Florida team in the Jags or Dolphins this year? AFC do you like better this year the Jaguars or the Dolphins they play week one oh do they they do in Miami God speaking of I mean we we put the Crux on everybody last remember we went to Jacksonville they could get home field if they won out I don't think they won again no it all went wrong Lawrence got hurt Cincinnati with Browning won that game and uh yeah that that we literally we spent the two hours leading into that game saying there's a path here for them to be home field for the for the playoffs or as it turns out they don't they don't make it they make it did not Dolphins did but they had to go to Kansas City it was negative a zillion and they did not win a playoff game Tua got the D in the off season Lawrence got the D in the offseason why because you got to pay quarterbacks who give you a chance to have a chance that's what you do when you get a guy that you think maybe you just pay him $50 million a year both teams did I'm asking who you like better this year I'm gonna say the Jag simply because I think their pass easier I was just going to ask you do you think they have a better chance to win a division than Miami does I think well the the one cave out here is New England is is but lowest win total four and a half they're a mess right so that's that's two you're supposed to get you know they're going to get somebody though of course you know of course I'm you got to avoid being that team I've always liked brassette because I think he's a competent professional that does his job and they I I think what they're doing and starting him is just saying look there's no need to scar May irreparably okay um but I I said Jags because I think the Jets and the bills are are both real obstacles and in the case of Houston and Indie and Tennessee I don't know that's always a division that I I feel like it's like the NFC super interesting I love it I've always loved that division because I never know I think that's fair I I'll agree with you Jacksonville's path to a division title is maybe more direct I feel like yeah you could see it better and Miami although is going to have the flash you know that for sure U I'm a Believer in Doug Peterson uh I I've said that forever love the way he goes about things and I will say they they did get crushed by injuries last year at Jacksonville well so did Miami Miami's defense was decimated by the end of the year absolutely decimated on def on defense by injury by the end of that year yeah Jacksonville there I like I think they're both really good teams this isn't me saying one's good the other isn't I think we're just saying just in terms of paths to playoffs I just think it's a fun a fun opener so so's Cowboys Browns the the Cowboys do the Cowboys do nothing quietly they do Outlook for the Browns, Cowboys nothing away from the eye of the world CD got his dough Dak wants more years than I guess Dallas is willing to give and I'll just say this I don't blame Dallas for not wanting to commit to you for for long long long term I don't blame him at some point at some point you you you can't get your ass kicked at home by Green Bay in week one of the playoffs can't and you're the quarterback with a star on your side of your head so I mean with that comes a lot so I that's that's a tricky one I mean cuz if you give him whatever five years then you're saying like I'm not trying to be morbid here but like at some point Jerry's like how long am I like I'm not living 20 more years I got to win now today so it's it's that's a tricky conversation I think with with with Dak in terms of how long you want to be committed there uh and they're going up against the Browns defense that was absolutely hellacious they have the the I think think Garrett's the most terrifying single matchup there is in the NFL look at that man he's a Freakazoid he truly is but that that so that's just an interesting one I mean everybody will be talking about from The Brady perspective he's he'll be in the booth oh that's right he and Burkhart burkhart's tremendous br's back no there he is he's in the booth I think Cleveland's the biggest wild card in the whole NFL because I have no idea if their quarterback can do it is that it yeah I mean it it gets I know their coach could do it yep I know their offensive line could do it and they got weapons at every position I have no idea what their defense is fantastic yes their quarterback is a gigantic question mark man I I I they might be the biggest wild card team in the NFL that's what I said that's what they are I excuse me I just repeated what the big man mean does the is the effort there or the want to there I just think is is he physically capable of doing it I don't know like they said his arm hurt throughout could have just been he wants to rest the same way all these other guys don't do anything in preseason and then all of a sudden it's an advance of week one they're like oh no he's good he's going to play week one the divisions align really really interesting well that's the most interesting division in football right which one AFC North it's the best okay it is the most interesting but like in a mini version you have the same intricacies I believe the Ravens are the top dog right the Steelers new face not sure Bengals healthy they might be better than all of them Cleveland no idea a quarterback if he's good will be the Wild Card you go to the AFC South you know you got Stroud who's got all the hype in the world you have Jacksonville who was the team that was the best team the half the year they get hurt Allah Cincinnati uh and then you you look at the other teams like the Colts you know what are you doing Tennessee all this over Tennessee is the Pittsburgh like it's it's it's when you when you break it down so many things are critical and you mentioned before the two games in your they're they're massive in the in the course of a season now there's so many out of conference games the way you play that the records basically were but that conference record or I should say division record really gives you a better feel of how you stand because we're going to you know now with the playoffs expandion you're going to get rematches uh you know in the playoffs with division teams so it's uh it's fascinating it's what keeps everybody involved in the sport along with fantasy and you you gota you know give your yourself time and in this that's why I think Cleveland is the biggest Walkers I don't know how much time you can give them all out the Colts with Richardson speaking of rematches RAM Lions was a playoff game yeah and now it will be game one on Sunday night The Buying the Lions SB hype? Prime Time game Sunday night is is Rams oh Lions Monday night we've got the Jets and the Niners you buy the Lions to the Super Bowl hype yes mhm it's possible it's doable you look how close they were last year they have a a belief in the locker room which I think worked out perfectly where it was everybody renaged on the head coach the former team gave up on the quarterback an unproven wide receiver who keeps tabs on all the wide receivers taking ahead of him a great offensive line and then a defense where they have drafted really really well and pieced in and the other thing that we never saw in my lifetime that we got to see firsthand last year is the lions with a HomeField advantage and it was awesome to see those people uh in that environment on a Monday night and that's just something I never had so with all that yeah for sure they're a formable um I agree I just think it's interesting when you go they they went two years ago they didn't make the playoffs but they beat Aaron Rogers and Lambo and that was that was really I thought it big deal it was a big deal because it spoke to every cliche that that is actually real they demonstrated it right it was a group of men that took on the identity of their coach and we're like you know what all right so Seattle's going to go so we don't get to go well guess what Green Bay F you we're gonna come in and we're gonna beat you doesn't mean anything well it means something to us and then they carry that talk about fake momentum in college football that that was real momentum and they they brought it to last year and it was real because they played it perfectly because they knew you know the playoff that earlier that day was set but also too it was perfect because they knew everyone was going to talk about the Packers losing and in that they found themselves and said we got something to build whereas everybody's going to be talking about them that's good we're going to be over here now you got a little more Shine On You then that's exactly what that's that's the thing how do you handle that piece of it because for you said all your life and I mean they've been in the playoffs some of mine cuz I'm older but I mean 92 when when they beat the Cowboys that was awesome bar they had one playoff win in basically 60 years one and so now you go from upstart their coaches nuts favor to win the division there you go that's a different deal and Green Bay comes something different with love and they win a playoff game now Chicago where are they uh Minnesota's I mean we'll see I mean I think they're they're a wild card as well although I know they're coach like Sam Darnell but I mean like they're they're clearly supposed to be last in that division but but Detroit has gone from bottom feeder punch line to expected to win the division one of the on the short list of teams that that people think can make it to the Super Bowl that's a very different reality to handle and manage I think if any coach is going to keep guys eyes on the prize feet on the ground and and and brains from floating away like up it it's Campbell he's just not going to have it like he's not going to be different so why should they I just think it's that I think that that's the fun part to watch and the Rams I just I love Stafford I just yeah always have I love the Rams I love I love everything about them I hope they wear countdown and then the post game of countdown those are the the the 18 biggest games that we have as a network for the season and it's and it's and it's an honor to be part of that night I mean it goes back to coell and Dy da and I mean it's the longest running music man of course it's the longest running I remember when Taro got the job I I I remember sending him a text that the first night he did Monday Night Football I said hey man when when you hear that music at 9:00 that's the games us to start at 9:00 when you hear that music in your year at 9:00 and it's Monday Night Football music I'm like and you're the first guy to talk like just remind yourself like I'm the dude doing Monday Night Football well I'm not doing Monday Night Football but we're there for part of it so am I am I excited yeah and I it's cool to be able to say that out loud because I am and it's truly an honor to do it uh the game itself is I mean I hate to overuse fascinating but my God we were in New York last year it's 911 Aaron Rogers is coming out of the tunnel and then it's over and and they they won that game which we somehow get lost over return correct but now we find out like are they that I'm I'm seeing all the people picking you know and I hate doing it because it's I feel like it's pointless but everyone just sort of does it see a lot of people say that Jets could go to the Super Bowl and their defense is absolutely insane and if Rogers is some version of the Rogers he's been with a healthy Bree Hall and Garrett Wilson and they've at mad Williams is it if he can stay healthy at wide receiver that's a guy that can take the top off the defense too sure I mean they could be great but as interested as people will be in the Jets for me I am more interested in the San Francisco story on on Monday because they've been so close to doing the thing that Shanahan hasn't done yet and that's when the Super Bowl and so many people will turn it into the thing he hasn't done makes defines who he is correct well I know something we're going to talk about on Monday with Kelsey there's a guy named Andy Reid that was in Philadelphia and people talked about what he couldn't do well how many's he got now you could say mes sure well Belichick's got a boat named seven rings and Brady had a lot to do with it too so I you can miss me with that my point is I think Shanahan's an excellent coach they got the auk situation sorted out they got Debo done before that Williams is going to be there now too and he's maybe more important than anything no doubt best left tackle in the game wait till you see him he's such a he's such an enormous human but I I that the San Francisco lens is one of what they haven't done they they're an half inch away from winning not one but two against the Chiefs and then everything everyone says about Mahomes is a little bit different because he's gotten there but he hasn't won instead he won them both so I'm um I mean both against the Niners obviously he's W1 with Philly in the middle I'm I want to see is San Francisco going to be the bully on the Block in the NFC again cuz I think they are and I just want to see how do they how do they manage an a another season if God bless it you know mhm cuz it's hard to win man and they've managed to do a lot of the hard part they're just haven't done the hardest part which is to get to the Finish Line yeah I don't judge people on Super Bowls uh talking to enough people that play and are around those people I think the world I'm in the tank for Shanahan I'm in the tank for Salah too and that's what it goes back to me for Salah I I am rooting for that guy uh I I understand uh he's a firsttime head coach it was a freaking disaster what what has happened since he's been the head coach um and and I I mean just look at what has happened and tell me what guy is going to handle that great I think about the pressers every weekend it's the New York media and they're like hey do you what do you think about Zach Wilson and I'm looking at Salah and he's staring into the camera and you know in his soul he wants to go what the am I supposed to do yeah we don't have a quarterback man I'm sorry sorry yeah like we're trying our best and and that's back to it the team still competed every single person you talk to that's has experienced in this league talks about him as a defensive coach and their personnel on the defensive side so to me I just want to see it but I believe in in in that unit and if all is is right and the way these guys could play later in life Aaron roders is not going to miss as much as people think they are so to me it's more about what the I think the Jets need a good showing more than anything maybe more than anyone in the league hot take on the way out
