game between the Yankees and the Royals Hudson Valley's in the playoffs we'll tell you how they did and we had a new look lineup we're going to talk about that too but first the new look lineup didn't do anything no this game I gotta be honest with you I'm I'm the first one to kill the Yankees all year but this feels more like a Seth Lugo unbelievable performance than it does lineup struggling right um I love I I as much as you I'm sure a lot of Yankee Nation when they saw the lineup come out was O like they gave you that little uh little kick because I loved it um it looked like a playoff lineup like the lineup that you kind of expected all year I believe before the season even started when we were doing shows that this is what we expected out of the whole year um so really everything you wanted to see out of the lineup um just the team got overmatched me sometimes I think the best quote was given by PA on you when the game ended um sometimes you just got to tip your cap yeah like Seth Lugo was awesome that was it and like you know let's be real the Yankees have benefited off a lot of those games in the last three or four years from Garrick Cole they don't score and Garrick Cole was just awesome and tonight Seth luga was just awesome that's it um strowman was okay I guess that's the word I would use right he wasn't great he uh he really couldn't really control a lot of the Zone a lot of the night he was all over the place as usual he was throwing a lot of pitches as usual um the end of the day five in a third seven hits three earn two walks fourk is very Marcus strowman esque kind of performance um I did want to ask you that briefly before we get into the rest of the team every time you watch him pitch and every time he has another performance where do you lean more towards him getting Playoff starts or not not right because I feel the exact same way it just it feels like every next game every waiting game it it just feels like I trust him less in a big game yep I trust Lis heel more in a big game I would too especially a guy who Marcus strowman has struggled with walks all year and and that's a big deal in the postseason you you know we talk about the little things in baseball right like the little mistakes you cannot make in major games the Fielding errors the little dinky dunk things that no one really considers and then it happens to you in a big game and you're like oh that was a huge play walks are that walks are that in playoff games you can't give free bases away you can't give up free base runers you can't allow stuff like that to happen I feel like Marcus strowman allows that I I will say this um and I've been saying this all year when the Royals get in they're going to cause problems for teams in the playoffs oh yeah they are they just they have the formula right they run the bases really well they hit they have a really complete lineup their starting pitching is really good they they they are the young team that really you don't want to face in the postseason no definitely not um at one point glaber was the only one who had hits he had two hits and then Wells added one and that was it against Seth Lugo no one could do anything against him yeah it was just one of those nights um where like you said you just tip your cap to the opposing pitchers and just like all right right things happen you know um you just sometimes you can't hit guys when they're pitching like that it just happens I'm not going to be angry at the result because you know they won big on Monday night now they have a chance to win two out of three win the final game of the series and head into the series against a four game series against the Red Sox that starts on Thursday so it just happens so after the only thing I'm bothered about honestly is fact the Orioles won well yeah I mean you knew the Orioles weren't going to lose again to the Red Sox I mean it just it just feels like with this Yankee team it's like every night like they these teams can't go more than a game and a half above each other no yeah seesaw yeah yeah it's it's funny because I'm friends with a lot of um Orioles fans on Twitter and seeing them react to their team it's just it's it happens on different nights like you said because like the Yan will win the or will lose and then vice versa and it's just funny to watch them overreact like Yankee fans do and it's like wow we're the same kind of cool uh Mark Mark lighter Jr came in after strowman and he went one and twoth thirds two hits one earned run no walks 2ks you know I'm I'm out on him in a playoff game by the way oh yeah no because he's always giving up runs he's doing what they DFA Michael tonan for because you know they DFA him because oh Michael tonin's given up what was it I can't remember the exact like 10 runs in his last 16 outing something to that effect I was all over I was all over lder Jr when they got him I loved the the makeup and I loved the stoicness in his face and I I really yeah was all over him I'm I'm out right I can't like I thought he'd be getting big outs in playoff games and and I can't like it's every game he comes in there's a run given up every game yeah pretty much yeah and then Tim came in pitched two innings two hits one run no walks two strikeouts so basically the same line except one more out because he pitched preserves the they preserve the bullpen yeah and that's what you want from a game like this you know I know I on yesterday's show I said well maybe you know luga will shut them down and then maybe they can get to the bullpen well that's the only thing worse is um the only thing worse is when you lose games of this and you wind up using like six relievers right and they didn't so that's they used two that's good and one of them's Mesa which they they don't use in big games anyway yeah so we don't have to worry about that I'm kind of hoping against hope that Mark ligher Jr does the uh was it David Weathers in 96 which I'm trying to remember which reliever was the guy that was just awful in the regular season and then when the playoffs came around no one could hit him and everyone was like where the hell he come from I can't remember if it was David weathers or someone else but I really would like for Mark lier Jr to be that like I think I think he'd perform well in the playoffs just because again like that that that stoic nature of him not caring I think really does translate into the playoffs very well but overall I mean Stacy he just I mean it's a run every single time he's out there yeah that that's got to be stopped you know yeah like when you look at the numbers and they're like oh you know he only did this in this many innings against the Cubs and then you look at the Innings he's had with the Yankees it's like but I think he make the playoff roster because the strikeout percentage stuff is still there and they love that and they look for that they can I mean they can work on it they have a couple of weeks to work on this stuff hopefully I do think though I do think with the way strowman's been and the way neer's been and stuff I I do think the playoff rotation is Cole rodon heel yep um Cole rodon heel Nester out of the bll pen Clark Schmidt out of the bullpen um maybe even piggybacking if need to someone you know if someone has a bad start they could put one of those guys in as long relief and not go to the actual Bullpen arms I don't know if strowman makes the DS roster yeah because he's not guy he's not a bullpen guy so where are you putting him you know like right yeah yeah because Nester was a bullpen guy and we saw what he did the other day and he can do that sort of a thing uh Clark SCH same thing I mean Schmidt could do the same thing I'll tell you what I I want to secr camera on Marcus strowman when he's told he didn't make the playoff roster oh I want to see that so badly oh yeah that's gonna be fun remember years ago when uh when at the deadline when he was traded to the Mets over the Yankees from Toronto and he had a meltdown like an absolute meltdown because he wanted to go to the Yankees yeah um I I just I what I would pay to see that to see the reaction of hey Marcus you're not our opening game starter for game one like his reaction would just be now he can't wear his 98 Yankees World Series t-shirts and oh it would be tremendous not that I root bad things against the guy but he is not my favorite Yankee I gotta be honest with you well yeah I mean it's just it's frustrating because you just want him to be okay and he's okay but he's not a guy that you trust the play he is okay but he's not a guy that I trust in a big moment but he carries himself like gar Cole that that's the kind of stuff that you know he does like and I know you need confidence major leager but he almost carries himself with like this unbridled confidence that he's never earned he's never like he's had a couple of really good years but that not nothing ever at an elite elite level but he carries himself that way um yeah it's just he's just he's been a weird pitcher this year yeah right like he's got a couple good starts but mostly not not that effective really yeah we'll see we have a couple weeks to go before we see what the playoff roster is let's see if someone opens opens themselves up and becomes something you know yeah all right don't forget out to the Insiders because when the lineup came out on Twitter people were freaking out and the beat writers were laughing they're like wow I've never seen this positive of a response to a lineup perhaps ever you like wow they couldn't believe it because um the Yankees did the right thing I mean the results weren't there because SE Seth Lugo was pitching out of his mind but you know when I saw that lineup I thought wow they finally got it I had a buddy from work um I was at work when the lineup came out and he said uh you see the lineup like out loud in the office and I was like no let me go but I feel like that's a weird comment to make if it's different so it's not different so I went and got I went looked at it and I was like okay this is the kind of lineup that I want to see on game game one of the playoffs exactly what I want to see and you know it's weird how Rizzo hasn't been amazing since he's been back but I think he's found himself in the everyday starting role just because no one else was able to take that role like and Ben R had every opportunity didn't take it but I mean glaver has to lead off Soto and judge are going to stay in their exact same spots but you look at the rest of that lineup right I mean it gets it feels a lot more whole than it did middle of the Year middle of the year I felt like there were a lot of automatic outs in the middle of the lineup I mean Jazz really ties it all together he really does how he's hit John Carlo and his playoff track record Austin Wells has been I mean should he win Rookie of the Year probably he's going to be finished one or two though yeah um Dominguez I mean is I don't know how it's come to this if he's gonna play every day in the playoffs but thankfully it has the the lineup is very whole very complete um if I had anything to change which I I couldn't justify changing it right now but I would wish the season had gone different and you could change it I wish Anthony vulp be your lead off hitter right and glaver be hitting nine but I mean vulpi hasn't done enough this year to prove that he deserves that spot so I'm really I'm totally fine with the way this lineup turned out and glaber's picked it up he's been hitting a bit yeah so himit he's uh salvaging what's left of this walk season for him because yeah but he's played well in the last month he really has like I mean you gotta give these guys credit when they're when it's due right and glaver had a really tough August he did like you know a lot of mishaps and people killing him online and stuff you gotta be honest with yourself sometimes glaver was really good yesterday and and has been really good this entire past two weeks um he doesn't in spurts let's hope one of the let's hope he goes into a a slump now in the next week or so and he picks it back up again in the playoffs what I was gonna say was I'm trying to remember a walk here this bad because usually usually guys will pick it up step it up a bit in their walk gear and I'm trying to remember someone else who had a walk here this bad um but like I said yeah keep in mind walk ears aren't always is aren't always made as public right like technically Joey Gallow was a walk year that was the last year of his deal was a pretty bad year yeah that was or I mean what's worse gaver playing like this in his walk year or jacobe Ellsbury never getting to his walk GE so don't get me started on that I can still I can still rant about that even though it was 11 years ago so in case you didn't watch the game because you know some people have things to do and they're like looking at the recap and not realizing what the lineup was it was Gaber SoDo judge Wells Stanton Jazz Dominguez Rizzo vulpi you notice a name is missing no Verdugo and we mentioned the quote from Verdugo on Monday show where he said the most important thing basically what he said was the most important thing is winning so I'll do whatever they tell me to do I don't know if in his heart of hearts he really believes that but it's the right answer it's the correct answer to give so you take it for what it's worth and you go forward with it um I appreciate the answer from Verdugo I think Vero sees the riding on the wall too DZ is their future he's not gonna play here in the future so I think he sees is the writing on the wall yeah speaking of the playoffs the Hudson Valley Renegades played their first game of their series with the Greensboro Grasshoppers love that name on Tuesday night and they won six nothing now the thing about this is this is their 20th shutout of 2024 they led the league with 19 shutouts in the regular season and they had another one in their first game of the playoffs it's pretty impressive yeah no for sure um I like when Minor League playoffs are starting a little earlier than you know than the Major League playoffs you can kind of keep track of what the teams are actually doing yeah um it's it's always fun to kind of see that you know instead of it all going on at the exact same time and it was like Oh yay the Renegades at least are scoring because the Yankees aren't they won six nothing um Dylan Joo hit a three-run home run George Lumbard Jr and rock Rio both doubled and I believe they were both RBI doubles I was keeping track on Twitter and looking at the highlights and stuff Trent sellers struck out a career high nine batters in four shutout on hit Innings and since June 25th sellers has allowed just two two earned runs in his last 50 and two3 Frames which is good for a 0.35 erra is that good that seems pretty good that seems pretty good now it's only a three-game series so if they win on Wednesday they move on to the next round so and they're looking to do that for the second straight year so good for them impressive yeah yeah and it's good to see George Lombard Jr up with Hudson Valley because he was down with Tampa and he's young I think he's still 19 he's still really really young and he's still developing but he's really starting to hit with them and you know he could he's gonna be the next guy and once Spencer Jones gets traded or makes a major league debut he's gonna be the next guy that we all obsess over I can guarantee that oh see I wish I made the I wish I made the graphic to put up on the screen but there was a very funny um my friend made a very funny comment because there was a picture of Spencer Jones and a dog they put it up on Twitter earlier today and they said about the dog a good K9 and for Spencer Jones a bad K per nine in case you guys don't know Spencer Jones's uh strikeout rate is like 38 right now yeah he needs to work on it and we said on miners Monday um he had a stretch Thursday and Friday or Wednesday and Thursday whatever it was he went 0 for n with nine strikeout he needs to he needs to work on that this offseason yeah he's really too much all or nothing right now so that's why he that program judge was in yeah so when people are like why won't they call that's why if he's striking out that much against doublea pitchers what do you think he's gonna do in the majors and why would you think he would skip over Triple A so yeah yeah so good for Hudson Valley go in on Wednesday sweep the Grasshoppers no offense to the grasshoppers but sweep them out and to the next round yeah yeah coming up next we're going to preview the finale or the rubber game between the Yankees and the [Music] Royals priz piix is America's number one daily fantasy sports app with over 5 million active members prize pick is the easiest and most exciting way the word Yankees St welcome back game three of this series Yankees Royals uh the rubber match again because when did the Yankees not play a series Without a rubber match lately um we can't not we can't understate the seriousness of this right of winning a series of getting the game one the Orioles are also going into a rubber match with the Red Sox and actually wait wait wait Sunday wasn't a rubber match against the Cubs because they won the first two yeah that was the that was about the one Series in the last two months in the last two months that it happened yeah but now they're back to their their ways exactly and and again the importance of the Orioles going into that and the Orioles needing a win also you got to go out there and you got to get a win just to keep things out where they are um it's a 705 start like it's been all week I believe this will be an Amazon Prime game because on Wednesday um Luis heel 13-6 with a 324 ra for the Yankees he really has been incredible against Cole Reagan who's also had a great year for the Royals 11- n with a 333 erra Stacy this is important they gotta win this game uh you know they you really have to go forward in in this season with looking at every single game as a very very very important marker oh yeah because you don't know what the orial is gonna do every single night and with with the division being so tight you really can't afford to lose many of these games or not to these games seriously so another rubber match another game you got to go take it's really not becoming like we talked about it earlier in the year right just win Series and win series it's really not that anymore now it's just every game is its new thing go win a game go win a game go win a game it's that important uh you're really coming down to the tough parts of the Season I'm really hoping really hoping that around 2:30 3 o'cl tomorrow tomorrow or later today PM when you see the lineup come out it looks the exact same or insanely similar no no no not even I'm not even gonna say that the exact same to last night's lineup yeah because IR because insanely similar will be Dominguez sitting in Verdugo playing so no I don't want that I'm hoping that it looks the exact same let these guys get their at bats and let this lineup feel itself out like the big Advantage back in the day with 96 98 99 2000 we always reckon back to those days right and even 09 the lineup was the same every single night let it be that way still let it be the same every single night you know like like let these guys develop a Groove with each other and know who's coming up behind them and knowing what they can do in their at bats I think that level of consistency is absolutely huge and I think it's important to go forward with that yeah I would agree with that um you know looking at Luis heels numbers it's well all right when this airs it's September 11th and he's 13 and six if you told me at the beginning of the year that Lis heel was gonna have 13 wins I would have been like okay I don't think I would have believed it I with with the ER slightly over three yeah I mean that's another one too like I would never have believed that he's been that good yeah he's been incredible kudos to him and you know hopefully he can pitch like he normally pitches and hopefully the lineup can get to is it Reagans or Ragin I don't even know how to say his name I've heard multiple different pronunciations over the last so I don't know um I'm going I'm going Reagan just because of the new movie coming out but but I don't know um rag I'm just saying as someone whose last name strikes fear in people when they look at it I can see that even though my favorite thing let's go off topic just for a second because we have time my favorite thing was in school they would say Stacy got and they'd stop and I'd say suus and then they'd say oh like it's spelled yeah what a concept y you could pronounce it that way believe it or not yeah um I mean heels I mean when a heel came up you were hurt you were hearing Gil a lot or Gil that that that was wrong too um I'm sure Reagan is actually Ragin and I'm sure Ragin is actually Reagans who knows all we know is 333 ra which believe it or not is the ER of picture the Yankees do hit like like lower threes they do hit it's just the fours it's it's so this team is so weird they play better on the road right they play better against teams who are over 500 they play worse against teams that are under 500 they play worse against pitchers who have ER in the four fives and sixes sometimes and then they do well against pitchers with eras in the twos and threes you're like what and in all of Major League Baseball teams struggle with bullpens Yankees hit bullpens right it's so confusing they're so odd this year you know I I joked about it with JD of lock on Cardinals because I said I know I sound ridiculous as a Yankee fan complaining when my team is almost at 80 wins but they're just so maddening this season and that's the weird thing too with being consistently 20 games over 500 I've never seen a team that annoys me more that's been 20 games over 500 yeah yeah it's just oh it's a chore watching this team like honestly as good as they are they just sometimes are so frustrating and you just don't understand and from night to night you don't know which team's gonna show up either tear your hair out yeah like is one of those teams yeah it's crazy the playoffs will not be easy this year no playoff games will not be they never are but playoff games this year will not be simple to watch it's going to be extra har palpitations this year yeah um I do want to mention before we close up um 23 years since 9911 um the the most tragic event in our City's history for sure um and you know I'm sure you guys all of our listeners have stories and it's one of those moments in your life when you are instantly here of the moment and are taken back to where you are at that moment um so you know everybody who lost somebody everybody who fought for the country and everybody who was a hero that day uh we continue to thank you and you will not be forgotten 23 years later yeah um if you want to watch something about the Yankees tied with 911 can't believe I'm doing this but I'm doing it because it's a really good documentary and I may have been in it but even if I wasn't in it it would have been a good documentary anyway it's called nine innings from Ground Zero you could find it on YouTube um someone put it up there for free um I think you could find it on Amazon Prime too if I'm not mistaken but nine innings from Ground Zero came out 20 years ago it's an HBO documentary it's about how the Yankees It's Yankees in the Mets in the beginning of the documentary talking about coming back from 911 and getting into baseball and stuff and then it follows the Yankees through the playoff run and uh it was really I'm honored to be a part of that documentary you know because uh that was just such a weird that was such a strange time you were young you know so was I was four years old so yeah yeah yeah you know I worked in the city you know the first day that we were allowed back in Manhattan any noise any siren anything freak out freaked us out so badly we were we were allowed to go back to work on that Thursday because 911 was on a Tuesday I was about to go to work on that Friday morning legit had a panic attack and couldn't leave my house and when I called my boss she's like you're like the eighth person don't worry she's like no one wants to come in today so don't don't even worry about it just relax have a long weekend it's fine um it's hard to believe that it was that long ago like 23 years is a long time yeah I can't I can't imagine honestly like I can't imagine actually going through it as as an adult we've seen tragedies in this country happen and you know I've seen them as an adult now but um being a child at that age a lot of kids in my generation only have ties to it and don't necessarily my mother worked in the World Trade Center so only have ties to it but don't necessarily have the clear-cut memory of it so you know it's still terrifying and you know honestly to this day just beond grateful for anybody who did anything for the country at that time you've never seen a city that quite as resilient as New York when it comes to an event like that no it was really unbelievable um just being there and seeing how together we all were yeah you know it was kind of amazing kind of wish we were like that now one more time you can
