TRUSTED TV NEWS ANCHOR >>> BOTTOM OF THE HOUR NOW ON NBC NEWS DAILY, AND WE RETURN TO THE BREAKING NEWS OUT OF GEORGIA. MOMENTS AGO, WE GOT A SAD UPDATE FROM THE GEORGIA BUREAU OF INVESTIGATION. THEY CONFIRMED THAT AT LEAST FOUR PEOPLE ARE DEAD. WE HAD EARLIER BEEN TOLD TWO. NOW THEY'RE SAYING FOUR PEOPLE ARE DEAD AND AT LEAST NINE OTHERS ARE INJURED. ALSO A BIGGER NUMBER. THEY ALSO CONFIRMED THAT THE SUSPECT IS IN CUSTODY AND IS, IN FACT, ALIVE. THERE WAS SOME QUESTION ABOUT WHETHER THEY WERE DECEASED. WE DON'T KNOW THE GENDER YET. LAW ENFORCEMENT IS ON THE SCENE THERE AS WE LOOK AT PICTURES FROM ABOVE. THIS SCHOOL IS NORTHEAST OF ATLANTA. THE NEW SCHOOL YEAR THERE HAD APALACHEE HIGH SCHOOL HAD JUST BEGUN JUST A FEW WEEKS AGO. LET'S TURN TO PRIYA AT THE SCENE FOR US. WALK US THROUGH WHAT YOU'VE SEEING AND HEARING NOW. >> Reporter: YEAH, ABSOLUTELY. I'M OUTSIDE OF APALACHEE HIGH SCHOOL. AS YOU CAN PROBABLY SEE, THERE'S STILL A MASSIVE LAW ENFORCEMENT PRESENCE HERE. AUTHORITIES FROM LOCAL, STATE, AND FEDERAL AGENCIES. WE HAVE FBI AGENTS ON SCENE HERE AND INVESTIGATORS FROM THE GEORGIA BUREAU OF INVESTIGATION. ESSENTIALLY, THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN AROUND THE TIME THE SCHOOL DAY WOULD HAVE BEEN ENDING. BUT INSTEAD OF A TYPICAL SCHOOL PICK UP DAY, WE'RE SEEING SCHOOL BUSES DEPARTING WITH NO CHILDREN ON THEM. INSTEAD, WE'RE SEEING LOTS OF FAMILIES WHO HAVE BEEN WALKING FOR MILES BECAUSE A LOT OF THE STREETS AROUND HERE ARE COMPLETELY BLOCKED OFF BY LAW ENFORCEMENT TRYING TO GET REUNITED WITH THEIR KIDS. THE STUDENTS IN APALACHEE HIGH SCHOOL, THIS IS A STUDENT BODY OF ABOUT 1,800 KIDS, WERE ALL DIRECTED TO STAND IN THE FOOTBALL FIELD AS THEY WERE WAITING TO BE REUNITED WITH THEIR PARENTS. ALSO BEING QUESTIONED BY AUTHORITIES. WE HEARD FROM PARENTS THEY HAD ACTUALLY JOINED TOGETHER IN A PRAYER CIRCLE. AND WE WERE BRIEFED BY THE BARROW COUNTY SHERIFF NOT TOO LONG AGO. HE WASN'T ABLE TO GIVE US TOO MANY DETAILS. BUT AS YOU CAN IMAGINE IN A SMALL TOWN LIKE THIS, WINDER, GEORGIA, POPULATION OF ABOUT 18,000 PEOPLE, A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE SPECULATING RIGHT NOW ABOUT WHO THAT SHOOTER COULD BE, WHY THIS COULD HAVE HAPPENED, AND I ALSO WANT TO POINT OUT ONE OTHER THING. THIS HIGH SCHOOL IS DIRECTLY ACROSS THE STREET FROM A PRESCHOOL AND DIRECTLY NEXT TO A MIDDLE SCHOOL. SO THERE ARE KIDS IN THIS AREA, IN THIS ONE BLOCK OF ALL AGES. AND YOU'RE SEEING PARENTS JUST EMOTIONAL RIGHT NOW TRYING TO
