master's of business administration degree from The Graduate School of Business at Mississippi State University ladies and Gentlemen please welcome Riad sadik [Applause] well my apologies to you for this long introduction I feel embarrass some people talk about me it almost like I pass now they're doing my Rec but uh listen uh my thanks to the bent to uh Dr far my dear friend dralan the the administration the faculty and most of all my thanks to all of because don't take this as a speech this is the beginning of conversation what I want you to do is after we finish the proceeding go to LinkedIn and send me connection request and I promise you I will respond to it and my hope is that I can be of some service to you but mostly what I notice in interactions like this is I tend to learn more than I think because what you don't know is that you have a wisdom that Sur passes the decades I spent on the because you are more relevant to the time you are more relevant to so with that um let me talk about the environment we're facing right now and from a description of the environment what we'll talk about is some of the challenges short and long term and then some of the opportunity short and long term then we'll talk about some abiding principles that will help you navigate that that enir in a way that not only are you successful in uh making a place for yourself in this ecosystem but be of service to others very very important very important so we'll talk about principle and then to make the point of how those principles are to be applied I will take three areas that are emerging right now and exort you to immerse and then so what's the Environ me have show who read noi called then he wrote a book called hod then he wrote a book called 21 less 20% is a professor at the Hebrew University of 48 years old so saens in the history of humanity 70,000 year history of humanity how humans evolve from being an insignificant spe on this Earth to what they are right now Masters of the Universe in their own right and how they did it to the development of communication skills and through the har of Technology then he writes about which is man's Evolution or desire to evolve God using um biom medicine robotics AI how CL seeks to augment his position here as well as import Eternal longevity that's one book that I would highly recommend you guys read and then 21 lesson from the 21th century which is his exhortation of lessons learn that may be applied to your life graduate there's another book that you must read which is r great is managing one of the largest HED funds in the world the HED fund for bridgew he money for third party and has done about5 old he a grandfather is a very very uh academically um accomplished individual um is a commercial um accomplishment so he writes a book called principles of a changing world order it's something you must read the reason I'm telling you to read these books is these books are written by well meing accomplished people who've been around for decades and they provide a perspective that you need to incorporate in your journey from here on what they will tell you and synopsizes um y's work what yal will tell you is mankind is on an almost inevitable path to self-destruction almost inevitable path to self-destruction the reason I don't say inevitable but almost is because we do have free wills we do have if properly exercised that can obate this dark future that if you look at um ral's book principles of a changing world order it's a very rigorous study of rise and fall of various Empires over the last 500 years and it ends up in a very um very objective analysis of the the tension between two Powers one United States of America great the biggest economy and two the Chinese economy which is now fast rising and by purchasing power parity metrics it has already surpassed the US and in nominal terms it's supposed surpass Us by 2030 most importantly makes the point that rarely as it happened in human history that empires have changed position relative position without their being conflict so imagine conflict between the US and China what it for World why am I telling you all these what I'm telling you these things for for is because typically Youth and people in general tend not to think about negative things or tend to be so consumed by their daily priority that they lose s of what's happening around them that may be of enormous import to their life now so so that's a couple of observation you all know that climate change is not just inevitable but is manifesting itself every day every day most of this massive migration that taking place in North America all the way Europe is traceable to to Drought as a result of um plan so that's another key um toic for you all to keep in mind climate change is very real the genie of artificial intelligence um there is a there are a couple of very accomplished researchers ASA Rasin and CH haris you should have a very eye opening video on the challenges of AI for Humanity in particular AI evolves a GI artificial general intelligence what for human the issue about AI is for the first time in human history we are living with an alien presence in our mix AI is an artificial intelligence an alien intelligence that is now able to learn itself teach itself the other thing they will tell you is that AI has devel the ability to collaborate among remember what I told you about Humanity the rise of humanity over 30,000 years was partly traceable to communication collaboration communication leading with collaboration and um and AI is is communicating with each other without its human Master knowing and number two it is all collaborating so again threat so now that's a dark um picture of what a we but there's nothing inevitably inevitable about it it's all about how you as individual and your Fe collectively rise up to me this challenge because the other side of challenges is challenges have enormous opportunities associate with them for example the challenge climate change right now there are trillions of dollars being spent trillions of doll being spend on Technologies development and Technology applications to mitigate and render Society resilient to climate so there's an enormous opportunity for you all to apply whatever you learned out here to the field ofate change so there nothing inevitable about now let me talk about some abiding principles that are at least have served me very well and to my children my grandchildren my de my friends is what I say the first about principle is Faith and I am not referring to Faith as a religious manifestation of an impul I'm simply talking about faith as in a believe that says if I do my share Good Will Happ I do my [Applause] sh okay is par number two a sense of purpose so getting a paycheck is not purpose it's a intermediate outcome purpose is a commitment to yourself that for the time that's been given to me on this Earth I will make sure that my capabilities are applied for the best betterment of me my family my community and the world so great purpose now you couple it with perseverance so imagine this if you get up in the morning and you turn the TV on you take a cup of coffee and you spent the entire day like that having successive cups of coffee what impact did you leave behind that so think of moments as Priceless gems because they are Priceless GS there will come a point in life sooner for me than for you when there will be no more moment so these moments are one they're scares two they're uncertain you don't know how many moments we have in 2013 I buried my niece 32 at that time and as I was laying her her body in grave I was myself so you don't know how much time [Applause] whates that one last point in terms of what you can accomplish by yourself if you have hand with person next to you and person next with those three personas you can accomplish several times but you can do it and then if you can hold hands with nine of you you can do thousands times so always look for opportunities for purposeful productive collaboration with people that share the same value there is a lot of blessing in collaboration now let me so those are abiding principles that very well this is what I say to everybody I come in contact three crucial areas it doesn't matter what your major is today could be education could be Health Sciences could be biology could be physics whatever three areas that you must immerse yourself in because they will affect you as humans as consumers as producer as employee as b as husband as wife first area is climate change climate change is a force of such gargantuan proportion that even if you Marshal the most coordinated effort to cause it to be remediated the probability of that transpiring is very for a number of different reasons you connect up with me on Linkin you can ask me question all give me my why so so yes work on remediation work on nuclear uh Fusion reactor they the answer to cheap energy solar energy all that work on that but also work on which is hardening yourself your uh dwelling and your Society to the inevit effect of climate change so getting educ about climate change and I'm not saying that you should go out and start buy no look at why crypto came about and remember the of crypto 20089 the paper forain was manifestation bitco um that was the time when central banks all over the world had infused massive amounts of liquidity into the world banking system to save the world from Financial CL that cause for some people to feel like the currency paper money will ultimately so they ca for a digital asset to be uh created that by design has limit limitation of Bitcoin you can't have more than 32 million Bitcoin that's it so understanding the why the uses and the applications of cryptocurrency and the underlying technology blockchain ethereum which you know platform and is very very essential to to educate because it don't apply to you finally as I was mentioning you need to change the power of AI whether or anyone several to make your job easier in the short run but in the longer run it is important to know this so that you don't get Ki out of it there is a real danger of SS of society they get AI out of their job so one thing you will need to learn to do is after you get your first job is to always be thinking about what do I need to do to take my value to society and every day do stuff to maintain it or increase it this is all conf continuous value validation you have to be very conscious I didn't have to be cons hey computer programming languages I there sever jobs available hundred jobs but you will need to do continuous value validation so so that's that uh three key areas I'm exing you all Emer these are learn as much you can and apply as thanks for your patience um I will again encourage you reach out to my on linked and let's establish a Communications any sub with this an I talk to you about collaboration back I the gentleman said my name is Tim cpra and I'm an astronaut and I want you to help me figure out what I should be doing after I'm done with being an so I spoke to him about 45 minutes about career options then I finally said to him hey Jim instead of talking on the phone just come by my office he said oh it' be great to do that I'll do it when I get back and I said well get back from where he I'm calling you from the International Space Station he was calling me from the International Space Station so as a result of it we had a conversation I have some St blue be capital and next this Monday we're having another meeting where now he's going to be report of a team that develops the successor to the International Space Station which will be destroyed by 2030 by design it will come into Earth orbit and burn and so he's called a company that is developing the successor to the international SP that's an example of collaboration okay thank you very much [Applause] thank you very much Mr RI in keep even in Tradition a member of the graduating class is asked to deliver an address at this time Dr Hal TOS proost of North America University will'll
