news and rumors surrounding the Pittsburgh [Music] Steelers welcome into Steelers talk I your host Jack sper and today we got a lot to talk about here on Steelers talk namely around last year's all proo wide receiver Brandon auk we we have talked about iuk continuously on this channel the people that have watched here know that quite a bit and today we're going to be covering the latest around iuk situation and why I believe the Steelers are mere hours if not minutes away from acquiring an allpro receiver this late into the off season and then I also have uh today's practice report from Latrobe this morning the Steelers practice Russell Wilson Justin Fields I'll let you guys know everything that happened in the trobe this morning as well but before before we get into all the content today get us started by letting me know your opinion on Brandon iuk is he worth 30 plus million per season on his next contract would you pay that figure if you were GM Omar khon simply give me a yes or a no to kick off today's show so now let's start with the Brandon iuk latest here of course we have had a bunch of rumors all throughout the offseason the Steelers really thought they were going to be able to land auk around the NFL draft there was even reports that the Steelers had some sort of deal in place for either iuk or Debo at the trade or at the draft and nothing uh ended up happening of course but now it seems like the Steelers are knocking right on the door of acquiring the all proo wide receiver so let's start with the news from last night from ESPN's Adam schfer saying that the Patriots have decided not to explore a trade possibility with Brandon auk there was also another report later from from uh Mike mayoko from from NBC sports that the reason why Brandon auk wasn't a patriot is because he didn't want to be a patriot they were willing to pay him about $32 million per season and they had a trade in place with San Francisco that would have been acceptable however auk didn't want to go there so the Patriots decided to leave the table then we get to early this morning from Mr Ricky you guys know the Steelers Legend Ricky uh here can't believe can't believe I'm putting Ricky on my show man but big shout out to R man he seems like he's really nailing this one he says the ners will not be getting a first round pick back in this trade Steelers offered a first round pick back in May so listen man if this trade goes through and there's no first round pick involved that means the Steelers are getting Brandon IU for an even better price than they would have gotten him if they would have gotten him in May then we got Andrew philipon who reported this morning sources the Steelers have a verbal agreement in place with the 49ers for Brandon auk all the terms of the deal and contract details are being hammered out now the wide receiver is coming to Pittsburgh and then I heard earlier this morning from a source that the Steelers are actually willing to pay Brandon auk upwards of $30 million per year so not just 30 it's going to be higher than that if they are able to land iuk in a trade however nothing is official yet Jordan Schulz came out earlier today and said sources there is still no deal between the 49ers and Steelers on a trade that would send wide receiver Brandon iuk to Pittsburgh per multiple sources the two sides have spoken they continue to speak and the situation remains fluid but as of this post there's no agreement on all sides so listen man this feels extremely extremely close and right before we actually filmed this Mike Florio and the NFL Network insiders said that it seems like an eventuality that the Steelers are going to land Brandon auk in a trade before the start of the 2024 season now in terms of what this trade is going to look like cuz that's what Steelers fans want to know right how much is this going to cost the Steelers to bring iuk in this is my best guess right now I think it's going to be a 2025 second round pick a fourth rounder in 2026 and then I think Calvin Austin the third the wide receiver will also be a part of the deal okay I think that you know you need to kind of offset this a little bit the 49ers if they're going to be losing a receiver they need to retain another receiver that they like Calvin Austin I thir he's smaller he's unproven but he can definitely provide them some uh help in the Special Teams area of their team and then he could also be a pretty nice uh you know uh you know fourth receiver for them this year as well so I think this is my best guess right now and then if it goes through I think my projection here is that the Steelers will sign Brandon iuk to a 4-year extension worth $125 million which would be $31 and A4 million per season on his next deal now that's C certainly a lot um but this is something that I think is relatively realistic in terms of how the Steelers view iuk they see him as a true number one receiving weapon and that's what they will end up going out and doing now my take on this whole situation here guys is that the Steelers are serious if as if the Steelers are serious about going all in trying to win Super Bowls with this group with TJ Watt and Patrick Queen and cam Hayward and George Pickins and all these guys Minka Fitzpatrick they're trying to win championships now and that move to assign Russell Wilson this off season certainly points to this team trying to win now and try to get Cam Hayward a championship before he retires I think this is a move you absolutely have to make I would pay auk what he wants I think he is a legit number one receiver in the National Football League so let me know what you guys think right now would you would you take this deal and pay Brandon auk 30 plus million per season of just waiting on the edge of their seat about Brandon iuk and and understandably so this is a big deal for the Pittsburgh Steelers but also man we got a very interesting quarterback competition brewing in L trobe and I think it was another good day for both quarterbacks Russell Wilson I think is continuing to show that he he's sharp that he's accurate that he's efficient he's getting the ball out quickly and he's getting through his reads uh at a professional level and then Justin Fields continues to show flashes that make you think that he could be the long-term future at the position for the Pittsburgh Steelers get a couple nice throws over the intermediate part of the field again today and that's absolutely stuff that you want to see some of the other standouts at practice today in my opinion George Pickins had an unbelievable uh one-handed catch on kind of an errant throw from Justin Fields where he leaped up made the catch with one hand and then continued there's some other guys that are dealing with injuries here that the Steelers are expecting to be big-time contributors for them this year Alex heith sat out today's practice with that groin injury he suffered yesterday and then Patrick queen with the ankle still that he suffered on Friday Night Lights have not seen him in practice since that moment then deshun Elliott also left practice today um you know with multiple ailments I think that it's just bumps and bruises you know that come with play I think he's going to be just fine but he did come out later in the practice limping and he didn't Fields he's still super young he's he's got all the talent in the world he's been showing out at practices I mean and he's going to get some good playing time Mike Tomlin said that the first team offense is going to be out there for at least a couple of serieses so we're going to see a little bit of Justin Fields here Russell Wilson is not going to be playing however um so that's definitely an interesting development because if this is a real competition you want to see Russell Wilson in these game situations now they might still be be they still might be being kind of cautious with him with that with that calf injury but like if Russell Wilson doesn't play this preseason are you really ever going to know if Justin Fields is the better quarterback you'll have no idea you'll have no idea right so I feel like if Russell Wilson doesn't play this preseason he will start week one against the Falcons absolutely agree you know and you know you look at the list of the other players that aren't playing this week weekend it's like Patrick Queen Minka Fitzpatrick TJ watt like all the players that you know are established veteran starters are the other people not playing this week all right and there's other players that are banged up that will be playing this week right so obviously quarterback's a different position I think Justin does still have a chance to win the job if Russ struggles in Camp but it doesn't really seem like he is he's getting through his reads he's accurate um I I still believe Russell Wilson will be the week one starter but Justin Fields is certainly applying pressure and if Russ doesn't show up for this team this year Fields will absolutely get his chance to be the qb1 this year at some point no question about it all right we got some venos we when his contract comes up in a couple years no question about it you know like he's had Tantrums on the sideline you know he he's he's he's had terrible effort as a blocker at times like GP I love the guy to death man as a player and as a talent I think he's going to have a really good season this year especially if he keeps his head on straight but you know he still has things to prove in this league let's face that and I think Brandon auk you know aside from this contract situation with San Francisco has been a pretty well- behaved person he hasn't really had those Tantrums on the sideline he always gives great effort as a blocker so I think once he gets paid he's going to be just fine and uh if GP has a problem with the Steelers trying to make this team better I think that the biggest what I understand deal might be agreed upon but the holdup is San Francisco finding a third team to flip picks for a wide receiver this is the host of locked on 49 oh okay so there so this so that might be the hold up here the 49ers want a receiver want to find a third team they want to find a third team to send them a receiver but who has a receiver that they would want and who's going to help facilitate this deal yeah I I don't know if you're going to be able to find another receiver um if you're the 49ers I think that they're doing everything they can to get what they want out of this deal I just I'm just not sure if they're going to be able to find that um it's going to be interesting young noticeable 25 says the brown can we get Amari Cooper to be part of this deal here's the Pittsburgh Steelers Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin has released his first step chart for the 2024 season in preparation for the first preseason game this week against the Houston Texans on Friday night so today we're going to be reacting to that depth chart and what it means for the Pittsburgh Steelers as we approach the first preseason game make sure you guys click that thumbs up icon if you what Mike Tomlin had to say about this depth chart in the QB competition as a whole he says it's very much a competition what happens in stadium is weighted heavier than what happens in a practice setting because it's more game likee and that's definitely a Mike Tomlin s quote there and what that kind of means guys is that Justin Fields needs to ball out in the preseason games if he wants any chance of being the week one star for your Pittsburgh Steelers he can't go out there and throw two picks right he can't go out there and be like a one for six or seven right he's going to have to go out there and at least show that he can go up against a first team NFL defense that's not the Pittsburgh Steelers and uh play well in a game type setting in the preseason that's something that he's going to have to prove he's done really well in the practices to this point but as Mike Tom just said there the it's going to be a higher weight that comes with these preseason games and listen man if Russell Wilson doesn't play in the preseason and by the way he has not been uh he is not going to be playing in this first game so if he doesn't play at all in the preseason he's going to be qb1 for for week one all right uh pling simply if this is a true quarterback competition you put both of these guys out there and you see who plays better and the person that plays better wins the competition but if the Steelers uh you know hold back on Russell Wilson and they don't play him in these preseason games that means they want him healthy for week one and he's going to be the guy under Center taking the first snaps of the season so let me know down there in the comments section what is the percent chance that Russell Wilson is the week one starter for the Pittsburgh Steelers put it on a scale of zero meaning no way he's the starter compared to 100 which would be 100% he's definitely going to be the starter this is going to be the pen comet on today's show YouTube's going to throw you guys up on the depth chart no big surprises right there um and I do think Naji and Warren are going to be kind of battling out to see who's going to get the most reps once the season arrives right now Naji seems to have the lead then the fullbacks what kind of surprised me a little bit is that Connor Hayward was listed as is the number one fullback over Jack ketto who's been getting a lot of first team reps at fullback but you know if ketto really shows his worth he could potentially make this roster as this team's fullback but Connor Hayward the value that he brings to the table is that he can do a bunch of different things he can play tight end he can play fullback he can do a bunch of other things for this team whereas ketto would be a true fullback and do the Steelers really want to keep a true fullback on this team I guess we'll have to see then the wide receivers here you got George Pickins van Jefferson Calvin Austin the third is your first three guys up followed by Roman Wilson Scotty Miller and quz Watkins you can definitely see the distinction in practice between these guys because of the Reps that they're getting the top three guys are getting the most whereas Wilson's dealing with an injury and Scotty Miller and quz Watkins are working more with the second team Dez Fitzpatrick Jacob Copeland and Tariq black finish out the depth chart there then we get to the tight ends Pat faremouth and Darnell Washington listed as the top two guys then we got uh Mr Connor Hayward listed as the third tight end as well as the first fullback so it definitely seems like the Steelers are going to want to play him at both spots this year Michael puit Rodney Williams and Matt sole finish out the rest of that group then we get to the offensive line depth chart here um and you've got broadrick Jones listed as the starting right tackle Dan Moore Jr listed as the starting left tackle Nate herbick listed as the starting center over Zack Frasier Troy Fano kind of interesting listed as the backup left tackle even though he's been playing exclusively on the right side in practices so this is definitely interesting to me I think that this is a very fluid with that calf and they want to see Justin Fields play with the first team offense I still think there is a way that Fields ends up the starting quarterback for this football team week one but the fact that they're holding out Wilson is certainly an indication that they might feel he is the guy for week one for this football team but speaking of Justin fields that is the first thing that you guys need to be watching out for how does Justin Fields look going up against that other NFL team in a game like scenario against a first team defense in this league now he obviously has a lot of experience playing in the National Football League as the starting quarterback of the Chicago Bears so he should look pretty good right and if he doesn't look good that's not going to be good for his chances to be the starting quarterback at least to start the season okay you look at the situation right now between Russell Wilson and Justin Fields I think that Russ is still in poll position I think that the latest depth chart that was put out indicates that and in order for Justin to really take this uh job from Russell Wilson he's going to have the ball out in this preseason game and then the other two preseason games as well and my prediction is that he's going to do just that I think he's going to get two to three drives I think he's going to hit George Pickins and all these other guys for big gains and I think he might even have a big run as well and we're going to be coming away from Friday night thinking man Justin Fields played really well and Russell Wilson has the pressure on him moving forward make no mistake guys Justin Fields could absolutely win the week one starting job but I think two things need to happen not only is it enough for Justin fields to be impressive in Camp and in these preseason games but I also think Russell Wilson needs to struggle so in in that way I mean this this job is going to be determined by the way Russell Wilson plays the game during camp and during these preseason games if of course he plays but Justin Fields what he can control right now is how he plays and I think he's going to play pretty darn well now predict it here is how do the young offensive lineman play in this first action in the NFL okay because it sounds like they're going to get a lot of reps and they're going to be able to really show what they can do and obviously the Steelers are going to be relying on a lot of young offensive lineman this year and it's it is really important because this offense led by Arthur Smith the new OC it's going to be run heavy it's going to be play action heavy these offensive linemen here and these young guys are going to have to be good and good quickly for this to be the type of team that we hope this Steelers will be this year bradrick Jones has struggled in Camp so I want to see how he does uh against real opponent especially on the left side of the offensive line Troy Fano has looked really good on the right side at tackle I'm hoping he can translate that to the next or to this next step which is a preseason game then Zack Frasier has also looked pretty darn good in Camp as well want to see what he can do as the center out there on the field then we get to Cory tce Jr and he's going to be getting his first ever NFL action here in the preseason CU remember last year he had that ACL explosion uh right at the beginning of training camp Camp so he never played in the preseason game now we finally get to see what he looks like and if you guys know anything about me and how I've felt about Cory tce Jr I had him on my list of Spar psychos for draft for the NFL draft two seasons ago and I loved this kid coming out I thought he was one of the steals of the draft getting him in the seventh round and right now the Steelers are playing him at starting dimeb backer I think he's going to get a lot of time at outside cornerback on Friday and with those long arms the physical ability what I'm going to be looking out for is does he still have the speed after all the lower body injuries that he's suffered already in in his football playing career can't wait to watch him play now make sure you guys with Kenny picket Mitchell Tris and Mason Rudolph and this off season not only do you upgrade at quarterback but you get Patrick Queen to be the quarterback of your defense you lost no major players and this team might be on the verge of getting Brandon auk all right so this is a team that's definitely upgraded in many key spots and you won 10 games last year so I think that's worth at least a game or two more in the win column uh so I think anyone's saying eight or nine is banking on and Justin Fields stinking this year then we on from DV Productions a Gold Club member here says uh Steelers uh Jack how much money do you think we will pay auk when he gets here do you think he will take a discount to play for us um I I heard from a source today of the number that they're thinking of paying him and it's north of 30 million it sounds like the Steelers want to make him their Bonafide number one wide receiver for the next four years now you might be saying Jack what about about George piggins but it seems like they really believe in auk and for good reason he is a perfect fit for Arthur Smith's offense uh outside of this contract situation he really hasn't had many big diva moments he's been pretty well behaved and he's an excellent route Runner great run blocker he's like he's kind of like Deontay Johnson on steroids he does everything that Deontay Johnson did only better so I think that he's a perfect fit for this team and I think they're willing to pay up for it then we get to Anthony Fuller here $10 Super Chat says # Steelers What Would Justin Fields have to do in order to show Coach T he should be the start of this season so Anthony I think it's twofold okay there's a part that Justin can control and that's playing as well as he can in Camp and he's doing that part right now he's looking good but the other part of it because Russell Wilson is the veteran in the room because he's in pole position because the Steelers got uh picked him over Justin Fields initially in the off season um he's going to have to lose the job so not only does Justin field need to earn it but Russell Wilson has to show why he shouldn't have that job week one so it's going to be difficult for that second part I think Justin Fields is doing enough to show that he is a NFL starting quarterback but if Russell Wilson also looks like a good starting quarterback they're going to go with the vet so that's where the Steelers are at right now it's kind of up to Russell Wilson if he plays well he'll be qb1 and if he doesn't I think Justin Fields takes the job now before what the thing would look like now there's reports out there that the 49ers are looking to use the picks that the Steelers have offered off them to try to land another receiver this year which is interesting so I guess we'll see how it all works out here um but if it's just a straightup trade between these two teams I think it's a second a fourth and Calvin Austin the third then we got one from clarky says how does the iuk trade affect Pickins contract Pickins deserves a nice contract as well he absolutely does um his contract doesn't come up for a little bit here so I think that's what the Steelers are thinking they're thinking all right we get auk in here now we get both of these guys in the building for at least two seasons and then if Pickins is worth a big contract they will give him a big contract they will um having it's not unheard of to have two guys with big contracts at the wide receiver position in the NFL um at this rate 30 plus million dollars it would be quite a pretty penny to have two guys on your roster with that kind of money uh but I think that right now this is a team in the Steelers that's thinking short term they want to try to win now and getting a guy like auk and then paying him uh definitely helps them try to do that right now so get us started right now guys is auk worth 30 million dollar a year simply give me a yes or no down there in the comments section uh it sounds like that's probably what the Steelers would give him if not even more than that if a trade ended up going through so give me a yes or no is auk worth the 30 million he's asking for then we got one from Omar's burner here says what if the third team is the Raiders and the white no no this Omar this isn't going to be the case because if the Raiders even think about giving up Devonte Adams which they're not they're going to want Brandon auk and if auk's on the Steelers he can't go to the Raiders so this is just this this isn't going to happen um it's an chances are for the old line starters to be Jones sealo Frasier Daniels Fano by week one I think it's about 90% um the initial depth chart right now shows Dan Moore Jr at left tackle and broadrick on the right futo's been practicing a lot on the right side this week he's getting all the first team rep so it's going to be interesting to see how everything plays out hopefully brri will be fully healthy for this season he's not fully healthy now he's wearing a big elbow brace he's struggling because it's it's hurting him right now um but it's definitely going to be interesting to see what the offensive line shapes up to be I wouldn't quite put it at 90% but you know it's definitely a possibility then we got one from vibing with the dogs says watch out for Alec Pierce from the Colts uh interesting Alec Pierce is definitely a name I could see CP because they did add Adan I Mitchell they do have Michael P Pitman Jr but Josh DS just came down with a with this with an ankle sprain so maybe they want to keep Alec Pierce now um it's it's G to be a Shanahan guy right Shanahan is going to have to sign off on the receiver that they end up acquiring in this trade whatever the trade is
