welcome back to another video on my channel my name is Josh fan of showy foot.com and Arrowhead addict.com covering your Kansas City Chiefs and we've got some breaking news as of just a couple hours ago the Kansas City Chiefs are signing running back Sama p to the active roster and that's per Jordan Schultz of bleach report he had it first samaj perine formerly now the Denver Broncos was released from the Broncos after cut down day and the Kansas City Chiefs benefit here adding a running back that had over 600 yards last year you're getting my raw instant reaction right here and I absolutely love this move as soon as I heard that he was being released I was saying go get him Chiefs go get him like this would be the perfect running back three he can come in on third Downs he can pass block he can receive he's not too shabby running it from the backfield like this would be the perfect addition to this team this would make me feel absolutely awesome about the running back room because that was one of the things that I was kind of pound in the table for um dating back to very early in the offseason was let's get a veteran running back let's add a running back to this group because right now it doesn't look too great you have Peko who's your starter and he's very solid but I'm not a huge fan of c and then of course Carson steel came in and lit it up as a udfa he made the team so he's probably going to figure into the rotation but it was never going to hurt to add yet another running back to this room especially a veteran because you're kind of missing that uh veteran in the room now especially after Jerick McKinnon didn't return this year a lot of chiefs fans speculated whether or not he would return but samaj Pine is essentially your Jerick McKinnon replacement now another reason I'm a fan of Ry is because if you guys remember he played for the Cincinnati Bengals for a good couple of years there and in that time he absolutely killed us whenever we would play Cincinnati and he had a really long touchdown in that horrible AFC Championship Game loss and uh he made some plays in there that really turn the tides in that game and eventually led to a Bengals Victory this is just a guy that historically has been Chiefs killer every single time we play I even recall him having some good moments for the Denver Broncos last year in that game in which we lost to them that ended the long winning streak over the Denver Broncos but yeah I'm I'm a py fan this is a really solid pickup uh I even read a report that the Kansas City Chiefs were trying to trade for Sam ajp Ry uh they showed some trade interest for him and the Broncos were Fielding trade calls for him but obviously the Denver Broncos are always is going to be hesitant to answer the phone whenever the Chiefs come calling and they don't want to help them out but he would end up getting released anyway which gave the Chiefs the opportunity to sign him outright as I stated earlier I'm not really a huge C fan never have been I always thought that he was very underwhelming and it's kind of mindboggling how he keeps sneaking onto this roster and I was wanting the Chiefs to find an upgrade over him in the Veteran running back Market they didn't do it earlier this off season but I was saying hey maybe wait for post cutdowns and see if there's a guy that comes available that they like and of course that guy was some ajp R I'm glad that the Chiefs agree with me and brought him in cuz I questioned if they would ever do it and I also think this move was made partly due to the fact that c has been underwhelming and also unavailable C has been going through PTSD he's been very open about that nental Health struggles he's missed a lot of practice because of it missed a lot of training camp missed a lot of the preseason because he was going through that he was having a lot of flare ups and the Chiefs may be putting him on a nonf football injury list to begin the season to make room for perine on the 53 man roster and I thought maybe there was a slight possibility that he could be released after I saw that they were signing perine just because the Chiefs typically do not carry four running backs on the active roster meaning they have to make room somewhere you're not cutting Carson steel you're not cutting Isaiah Pacho so that kind of leaves c as the odman out but it would make a lot of sense to put him on the non-f football injury list as he struggles with mental health and inserts some ajp Ryan now last year samaj perine only had 53 rushes for 238 yards and one touchdown but he's your running back three in the rotation and the other thing is you're not bringing him in to rush for a bunch of yards where Ryan really adds value is in the receiving game on third down and in pass blocking he immediately becomes the best pass blocking running back in this rotation he's great at picking up blitzes and the receiving value is absolutely off the charts with him again that's really where he makes his impact he had nearly 700 yards of offense last year 455 of those yards came from receiving and here's one of my favorite stats I've read so far far since the Chiefs have signed s JP Ry this is from my guy at Price Carter also a contributor at Arrowhead Addict go ahead and check him out but he points out that samama perine last year would have been almost tied with Justin Watson as the Kansas City Chief's second leading receiver behind Rashid rice he had more receiving yards than Sky Moore than mvs then Canary is Tony and he was just 5 yards shy of Justin Watson's receiving total in 2023 three now while that's a testament to just how bad the Chiefs receivers were last year that's also a testament to the receiving threat that samaj perine is out of the backfield overall samaj perine adds yet another quality option to this back field if someone were to get injured or if you were to lose Isaiah pcho for a few games I'd feel very comfortable with samaj JP Ryan stepping in he gives Patrick Mahomes another outlet another weapon and you know what guys nothing will ever probably come close to that 2018 offense in terms of talent but let me tell you this might be the deepest offense that the Kansas City Chiefs have ever had from top to bottom I mean you look at the pass catchers and the improvements they've made there Hollywood Brown Xavier worthy Rashid rice Justin Watson Travis Kelce Juju Smith Schuster you have a plethora of quality pass catching options a start contrast from last year the offensive line is absolutely loaded with Talent Kingsley SU TAA second year of Wan Morris Jawan Taylor Joe tuny Creed Humphrey Trey Smith udfa Ethan Driscoll and then running back you got Peko who's very solid Carson steel has been the offseason darling this year and then you add in samaj perine very deep group and you can make an argument for all those guys getting anywhere from five to 10 touches a game so I am extremely happy with this move I was pounding the table for a veteran running back samama JP Ryan fits the bill perfectly for what I was looking for and that leaves no major holes on offense like that was one of my one question marks I still have for the offense that has been answered uh props to Brett V for this one this is a great move and it just it really completes the offense and it completes the running back room makes you feel a lot better about it absolutely 100% approve of this move but I want to hear from you guys what are your thoughts on the Kansas City Chiefs adding some ajp rine to the active
