53 Man Roster Update | Cut Day!

Chiefs Kingdom welcome back to the channel I kind of wanted to jump in and give a quick update with uh the podcast going live on Monday it's kind of in between with Tuesday being cut day and now here today we got kind of a day to digest you know what has happened in the last 48 hours cuz really a lot of Chiefs news in the last 48 hours or so obviously J Smith Schuster being resigned um coming back to the Kansas City Chiefs after being cut by the Patriots I think we all kind of had an eye on that um and interesting to go back and look at what he was wearing on his final day as a patriot as you can see a Chiefs logo kind of underneath his his uh White Practice Jersey which I thought was hilarious um especially the fact that he did end up coming back to Kansas City what just a day or two later so um that obviously big news and kind of shaped out you know the the day cuts and stuff so we're going to get into that real quick this won't be too long just kind of a quick update in the first thing that we're going to jump into is is the trades the Chiefs kind of made a couple of kind of random trades it felt like obviously there's something to it um with the Chiefs making moves and we've kind of seen this in the past but uh a couple of random deals here they did give up a seventh round draft pick to the Arizona Cardinals for Edge rusher Cameron Thomas Cameron Thomas uh who came into the league as a third round draft pick in 2022 his first couple of seasons in the NFL he has held a 13.4 pass rush win rate with 35 pressures that's according to PFF which not too bad just trying to add some depth and I think there's a lack of depth at Edge and with FAU not performing particularly great in the preseason we looked at that film of course and and he looks good on film seems like he has a bad First Step A lot of times is really what happens with FAU but not to get into too much to that I think the Chiefs wanting to add depth to that edge rusher spot obviously you got m Dana coming back um Charles om Min who was going to start the season on the pup list of course with his I believe it was a knee injury last year that you know kept him out towards the end of the year and you know we'll see we'll see what happens with the rotation of edge rushers I'm interested and I'm interested in this pick I haven't gone back and looked at any film obviously this was just announced yesterday but I haven't looked at anything but Cameron Thomas is part of the Chiefs 53 man roster um the other trade that the chiefs made was for tied in Payton Hendershot who was also a free agent he was undrafted free agent 2022 um now there's a couple of stipulations to this trade the conditions of the trade will include Cowboys receiving a seventh round draft pick in 2026 if hendershaw is on the 53 man roster for five games in 2024 or on the 46-man game day roster three times in 2024 um if the requirement is not met the Chiefs will retain their seventh round pick so depending on whether we see henders shot or not on the field um or you know just part of the roster I guess at least which I felt like the Chiefs kind of solidified tight end wise I'm almost surprised that IR Smith got cut which I mean he didn't look great in the preseason at all or anything no standout but you know having Noah gray having um Wy and Kelsey I mean I think the Chiefs do kind of like four tight ends for the most part but an an interesting one to say the least um let's look up the other one shout out to Ry because I actually hadn't seen this but um until just now because this was announced today um samaji pyan um has signed with the Kansas City Chiefs um will not be rejoining the Cincinnati Bengals this is from a report that I'm reading from a what is this Cincy Jungle ESP Nation for um these guys uh for the Bengals reported by Jordan Schultz sources the Chiefs are signing pass catching running back samaj P Ryan which I think works out because now going and looking at the roster moves that the chiefs made I think samaj P Ryan is actually a really good um a really good asset for the Chiefs because they're kind of missing that and I didn't see Clyde Edwards Air on the cut list so I'm not 100% sure if Clyde Ed Wards aair is part of the roster if he's on the pup list or what I'm going to go through the um page exactly obviously went through this already pton Hendershot and Cameron Thomas both coming over in trades from the Cardinals and Cowboys um The Reserve pup list Charles omahu um IR BJ Thompson will be on IR starting the year the Chiefs waved the following players ammani Bailey running back out of Texas Christian suy bosan the linebacker out of Southern Mississippi Baylor cup tight end out of Texas Tech Neil phell who I was kind of surprised to see waved the D tackle from Louisiana state chuku abuka godri who got cut he was also the other lineman that got picked up with W Morris over the offseason and I think it was a marijuana related charge in Kansas I'm not 100% sure on that I know I talked about it on the podcast maybe a month or two ago um Kamal Hayden was cut cornerback from Tennessee keante Ingram running back cut or waved excuse me Curtis Jacobs linebacker Penn State Truman Jones uh Edge from Harvard Fabian love it dle Florida State DJ Miller um that's the DB out of Kent State Lucas Nang that was one that surprised me Nang has not look good so I mean it didn't Shock Me from that standpoint it just shocked me from a standpoint of I just figured he'd you know be the two or the three you know one of those tackles kind of floating around in there they just outright waved him Chris Oken quarterback out of South Dakota state was waved Cornell pal wide receiver out of Clemson daic Prince running back out of Tulsa um Lewis Reese zamit um he was let go obviously no College he's the one that came over from rugby interested to see what happens with him and if maybe down the road he you know is either on the practice squad or what exactly happens if he just goes back to rugby I mean we'll see um niik ramio ended up not making the roster I know that's probably going to disappoint a lot of chiefs fans both the sign and JuJu Smith Shuster I think the writing was on the wall for a few guys and that includes we'll get to it Justin Ross wide receiver out of Clemson I think the writing on the wall was for him on on the wall was there for him Keith Taylor cornerback out of Washington of course cadarius Tony cut wide receiver out of Florida or waved excuse me montro Washington wide receiver out of Samford um that is all of the cuts going going on to just the out outright releases Dion Bush safety out of Miami he was of course the chief that picked off Lamar Jackson to seal the AFC Championship game last year he has been released Cole Christensen linebacker out of army Matt Dickerson the D tackle out of UCL I was a little surprised about Dickerson getting cut F Smith Titan out of Alabama gets cut and um they wave Tyrie gispy safety out of Missouri with an injury designation that was all the roster moves I am interested to see what happens again the receiving core I think the the writing was on the wall after Juju Smith Shuster was resigned because at that point it gives you obviously Hollywood is out but you got Rashi rice um you still got Justin Watson Xavier worthy obviously now guju in that mix Sky Moore um I'm probably leaving somebody out of that just kind of off the dome but right now you have a mix that I think is fine I'm not worried about the receiving Corp the receiving Corp from this year versus last year the last two years I'm absolutely not worried about at all um in relation to you know the last couple of years but we'll see what happens um again guju returns to Kansas City I am excited for that just because I think he can add some depth and he is that kind of receiver that the Chiefs like and they need you know they kind of like running a lot of routes kind of you know some of the things that Jay watt does some of the things that Rashid rice does and a lot of Kelsey big time you know what he likes to do and kind of find open space and zones you know get it to these guys in space let them do their work so I think that gu guu just fits along with what the Chiefs are trying to do and the way Xavier Worthy is going to be able to kind of stretch the defense essentially we've
