Arkansas vs. Oklahoma State PREDICTIONS | 2024 College Football Predictions

everything anybody had hoped it would be you had ton green look fantastic very athletic quarterback I think he's going to give some teams some problems I lik the jnd and Jackson thought he looked terrific in that game now look Arkansas Pine Bluff is maybe the worst team I've ever seen play an SEC team so let's let's put that out there but you look at some athleticism I like what they saw from Green and Jackson of course we know about Bobby petrino's ability to coach up an offense at least when it's not got Jimbo Fisher's thumb on it on the other hand Oklahoma State returns 10 starters from last year uh feels like it is poised to have a pretty good year how do we see this side of the matchup well you know even though they were playing Arkansas Pine Bluff I I you can't take anything away from what we saw from the Arkansas offense because I mean ton green was spectacular you mentioned J quend Jackson the transfer coming in he ran the ball really good um so there there is Talent there you know for Arkansas um will that translate to a game like Oklahoma State and will they get into SEC play in a few weeks we'll see but I mean there there's Talent there I liked what I saw from ton green as I went back and was watching that game and and looking at the way he played and again you you have to look at the opponent but also look at his skill he's got the skill and he works really good with Bobby patrino I think they're going to work really good together and and I think they I think Arkansas may win some games they shouldn't this year I really do I think they're in a position to do that and they need to be in a position to do that uh to to kind of turn things around at Arkansas but I did like what I see what I saw especially from a guy like tayor green let's flip the match up for just a minute uh and talk about when Oklahoma State's got the ball because I think this is going to be also pretty interesting you got all Gordon maybe the the top tail back in the country do Walker Award winner last year he's around again uh you've got a seventh year quarterback and Bowman most teams would kill to have that you've got a coach and Mike Gundy who has just had proficient offenses year after year after year for Arkansas I don't know that we got a lot of questions answered about the defense I mean did pitch a shut out you got Landon Jackson up front who's one of the better linemen around but this feels like it's a lot for Arkansas to bite off the way that Gordon can run the ball and I'm very interested to see what we find because I just don't know what we learned a week ago right this is uh what they're going to see against Oklahoma state is is just world's different from what they saw against Pine Bluff and you mentioned oi Gordon is is so much fun to watch he is spectacular he had two touchdowns on 27 carries and 104 yards in their opener there against South Dakota State um you know and Alan Bowman he he you know he's a good quarterback 25 of 34 267 yards three touchdowns in the air uh but Gordon is just he's Dynamic and the way he moves and and the way that he can exploit defenses is incredible and so yeah Arkansas's defense is going to have to be ready to go especially the defensive front um Oklahoma State I I feel like their offensive line can open up some holes for Gordon pretty well and uh on top of the dynamic Runner that he is and so yeah this is a this is we'll learn quickly I feel like about Arkansas's defense uh after this game facing a guy like Ali Gordon uh you know and then on on top of the receivers that they have as well Rashad Owens uh you know stribbling as well Oly Gordon can catch a few passes out of the back field also and so I I think uh it Oklahoma State I feel like is is better last year I feel like they couldn't quite get their footing and and uh you know they they they turned into a fairly good team but I feel like this year their offense is clicking much better and and so uh defense is is going to have to the Arkansas defense is going to have to play really well against this Oklahoma State team now you've got a lot of new faces in that back seven I'm kind of interested to see that the passing portion of it Arkansas has had fits in the passing game the last few years given up yards know they have been able to get to the quarterback at times uh but when the ball's in the air it's kind of been a problem you got a bunch of new Guys across the board now you do have Hudson Clark who's been there a while he's back but I mean you got got Maris Robinson the transfer from South Alabama the Nico Slaughter transfer from Tennessee you're going to see guys get tested in ways that they weren't tested a week ago and I'm anxious to see if this second are is better than what we've seen recently yeah and and I want to go back to something I just said about Oklahoma State I'm not saying they weren't a good team last year obviously they made the Big 12 Championship they were just inconsistent at times is better way uh to put that but yeah the secondary for Arkansas is uh is going to be uh intriguing who who steps up who who makes it happen um I think still there's just and it's funny to say that there's questions on a team that just hung 70 up on somebody but I felt like there's still a good bit of questions for me uh on Arkansas especially on the defensive side of the ball yeah and Oklahoma State I think we we still have some questions you mentioned you know last year like I look at Power Rankings pretty regularly and it was kind of a shock to see Oklahoma State in the 30s and maybe 40s got got beaten down by a pretty good Texas team or great Texas team in the B game so there was that too or um Conference Championship I guess it was but um yeah it feels like they've slipped a little bit but I just this is what's interesting they they've got veteran things they've got a superstar running back they've got an experienced defense and and they've got a coach in Mike Gundy who just has been Rock Solid consistent I mean sometimes his teams have been really good or great sometimes they've been a little more a little more towards ordinary but I mean they've never been bad and he's one of the better coaches in college football and here's what's interesting uh and I don't have all the stuff updated on Monday morning but the computer models see this as kind of a pick them game if it were played on a neutral field I find that kind of fascinating I'm not saying I necessarily endorse it um I think it's hard to do these things you still got obviously preseason rankings baked in you you got Arkansas just lit up a team that that I think you and I could score points against and you got Oklahoma State while it played a good opponent in week one in terms of FCS teams it's not what you're going to see the rest of the seasons I I think a lot of questions but I found that interesting but I think to me we kind of go it we know with I just think Mike guny has built up such a a solid record really good record solid is not doing it justice a performance he knows how to coach offense I've just got I I need to see more from Arkansas before I go out there with an upset but just just pointing out on a neutral field I'm seeing a lot of things that see this as kind of a pick them game although the odds makers um have got this closer to eight and a half which is probably closer to where I would go right so so you're taking uh you're taking the Cowboys I'm taking the Cowboys but you know what if Arkansas pulled an upset I I I got to be honest I I wouldn't be stunned just because there's so many unknowns and Bobby patrino done so many great things offensively I just I can't go there and pick it yet because it don't have enough burden of proof yet but but I'm intrigued I am too and I you you took almost the words right out of my mouth I I I'll go with Oklahoma State as well but it's not shocking to me if Arkansas does go and and is pulls the upset here you know I think that could be a possibility but uh yeah there's a I feel like even with a big win there's still a lot to figure out for Arkansas I feel like Oklahoma State's the more established team if you will in this in this matchup yeah well but both take Oklahoma State but we'll both be watching with interest and we will wrap this one up along with the other SEC games as we usually do
