about NFL fantasy and betting for sporting news.com we are going through our favorite plays of the week as we get closer and closer to kickoff on Thursday night we've already done our favorite running backs our favorite wide receivers of the week on Monday and Tuesday today we're going to hit on our favorite quarterback and tight end starts of week one fantasy before we do that I want to let lineup right you have them actually as your top four quarterbacks on the week I also have Allen and Herz as my top two but who I do have number three is Mr Kyler Murray himself against the bills you have them at quarterback seven I'm not worried about the bills defense I know that they were tough last year against fantasy quarterbacks but they lost both starting safeties they lost Matt Milano again uh to a long-term injury and the backup who came last year for Milano is now uh on the Jaguars uh that's Tyrell doson or actually on the Seahawks he left in free agency so like they lost a lot of pieces plus Leonard Floyd their their top sack leader last year I think kler Murray is gonna do just fine eating up this bill's defense in a high-scoring match up this week yeah and the bill should uh destroy the Cardinals defense so there should be a lot of garbage points here for Kyler Murray running around in the second half making plays he want to get the ball to his new weapon Marvin Harrison Jr the bills will also be vulnerable here without Milano but Trey McBride work in the middle of the field so whether it's running or passing there are a lot of abs for Kyler Murray to totally smash it this week and we like him a lot because again his volume is going to be pretty high in this offense he's gonna have to take charge running a little bit more than he would like maybe but we would like that in fantasy and then downfield he's just going to be a lot more comfortable when he has two go-to guys in Harrison and McBride yeah I just I love him all year long and espec especially in week one matchup now moving down the list here we both have CJ stoud and Anthony Richard ranked high for week one I have CJ Stroud as my quarterback four Richardson at quarterback seven you have Richardson as your quarterback five with Stout as your quarterback six so back toback for them they're playing in the same game head-to-head and I again I think this is going to be a high-scoring game as well I do have more confidence in the Texans offense altogether than in the Colts but know Richardson's going to get it done with his legs I mean we saw what he did against the Texans in his only matchup right in one half of a quarter he had already like 18 fantasy points in not even a a whole half of a game so we know what Richard Kon can do in any given game and stad beat up on the Texans in both his games last year yeah and I saying Kyler Murray Anthony Richardson and another guy we'll talk about soon because of this cheat code ability and the offense they're in aren't going to be in the running for that top QB and they're going to have a pretty high floor week and week out that's kind of why I have those Usual Suspects in the top four Allen Herz Mahomes Jackson because they're going to get you you the points you need even in tougher matchups right they're going to be consistent have spikes in better games well I think this cheat code also can help you there with Richardson so again Richardson Strat I agree with you this like looks like a game where there's going to be some points go back and forth this one of the games I feel comfortable one of the few games I feel comfortable with the over coming out of the gate because there's some issues with both defenses coming together right away right I think they both have promise here but yeah I like Str Richardson going back and forth we want that type of game here between the two secondy year QBs and I think we'll get it yeah I think strout's gonna have a huge game I mean last year like I said he destroyed them average 324 passing yards per game over those two games nearly nine yards pass yards per attempt 114 pass rating with four touchdowns and zero interceptions during that time and the Colts like defense hasn't changed right you could say things change from year to year but the Colts pretty much kept their exact same defense same coordinator all they added was LE out Tatu who I do like him and I think he's going to be a good Edge rusher but I don't think that's going to make the difference that all of a sudden they're able to shut down this Texans offense so expect a huge week from CJ Stroud now with Jaden Daniels let's keep going down our list here because he makes both of our top 10 in his NFL debut right we're saying we're not worried uh he's our my quarterback eight your quarterback nine and he gets the Buccaneers this week so tell me why you feel comfortable throwing him in right away and not waiting at all to see what he looks like yeah I think there's gonna be a little bit of mystery here for Todd bus and the Buccaneers defense trying to figure out exactly what Cliff Kingsbury is going to do with Jan Daniels I think they've shown some of it obviously that he has a big arm and they're going to use his athleticism all the way through the red zone so they know that they're going to try to stretch the field as well look at this Buccaneers pass rush they're trying to rebuild it right long gone are the two guys that did a lot of damage here over the years Jason Pier Paul and Shaquille Barrett those guys are not out there the secondary has some questions Beyond Jamal Dean and Antoine Winfield Jr so you can throw on them here but I think the biggest things are going to happen here is the Bucks are going to struggle a little bit I mean linebacker I think this is where Daniels can exploit them he's going to be very busy rushing I see like a 250 passing a 50 rushing game with a couple scores here I mean that's pretty par for the course for these type of quarterback so I love the start here for Jaden Daniels he's gets a good match up against the Bucks defense again not that same scary bucks defense from a few years ago yeah the the defense doesn't scare me and we've seen a lot of rookies have really good games in in their first start um over the last handful of years I mean Daniel Jones may have had his best game ever in his first start same as will Levis then yeah Justin Herbert scored 22 points Brock pie scored a lot Jaylen Herz with only 167 passing yards and one touchdown put up 20 fantasy points because he had 106 rushing yards like I could see that happening with jayen Daniels so I'm happy to play him this week he is going into my lineups now one guy that you drafted later who we both also have as a top 10 guy it's Jared go because why he's home and he gets the Rams and he's my quarterback five why because he's home H but he is lower for you quarterback 10 last year golf averaged 20.6 fantasy points per game it is eight home games um he has all of these weapons coming back uh and some of them coming just to their second season right with Sam La pora and Jamir Gibbs uh Aman Ross and brown got paid Jameson Williams is supposed to be better now like and last year in the Wild Card round it wasn't a huge game for G but also Sam leapor was dealing with that hyperextended knee didn't really do much that game so I I I just expect your at golf to go off at home in a nice match up yeah I just don't have him above some of those runners that we have I mean that's where I want to be a little bit careful right I have Jane Daniels there a little bit above as well so I think almost we need to start ranking these quarterbacks in two different kind of buckets right it's the Jaylen Herz Josh Allen bucket and you have the Patrick Mahomes bucket right what in relation to these passers produce as pocket guys in relation to Mahomes so it's kind of interesting this rushing are just the way the numbers translate it's going to be hard for a Jared go to crack a little bit higher than that any given week I also think that the Rams can be run on right so I think without Aaron Donald I think the Lions can do that that's kind of their signature thing I see Jared G having a solid game I don't necessarily see him spectacular game but it could create volume here for Matthew Stafford on the other side but the matchup is good enough I'm just not going to be excited to play him it's a fine qb1 that you can play that you took a little bit later in probably not in that top 10 but you're still might get the top 10 production this week yeah if you took Jared gof you took him because of what he does at home and good matchups and this is one of those situations so I'm plugging him in my lineup and that's why I have him as a top five guy as well I think his upsides very high we're going to get into our favorite tight end starts of the week and then later in the show we'll give you our favorite streaming quarterbacks and tight ends in case you're already looking for a guy to play you know that might be on waivers maybe your starter has a really bad matchup or is dealing with an injury or something Kelce is our one and two easy lineup every single week right Mark Andrews I have him at three you have him at five you're playing him now you do have George KD at four I have him down at eight but again if you're taking the chance on George KD you drafted him he's kind of just a musly like a a must start every week because you never know when those Spike weeks are going to be right now this is another guy you're going to start every week but we really really like him this week and it's Kyle pittz against the Steelers you have him at tight end three I have at tight end four I think I think the Steelers are gonna have a nightmare uh disaster of a try to stop pits this week yeah I think they'll move him around well and look they're still trying to figure out how to get the ball to these guys here Kirk Cousins and pitted some pretty good chemistry they're going to bring along the Deep threat thing is that deep threat is not going to be a big factor in this game right because the pass rush is going to be coming after Kirk Cousins he's going to have to get the ball out of his hands quickly here so Kyle Pitts working in the middle intermediate part of the field as well as Bean Robinson on checkdowns are going to be a big part of what they want to do more so than trying to push the ball downfield to Drake London so I I do like that a lot KY pittz think will be unlocked more than we've seen in a while since this rookie season probably so I like that a lot and this could be start up a big year now it was a tough debate in a lot of drafts Kyle pittz and Dalton concade which first round pick was going to really come through here pits a few years older concade coming into a year two now we also have them very high I have him a tight end seven but you have a tight end five is this just again a product of this Cardinal matchup where really there's not much to cover so I guess we're going to trust here the Target that we think is going to see the most action yeah I mean the Cardinals last year allowed eight receiving touchdowns tight ends that was tied for the second most in the NFL allowed the fifth most receiving yards per reception to tight ends we know concade can get those targets down the field and we saw his Target share increase in the second half of last season I fully expect him to be utilized more and even like in the postseason he led the bills with 104 receiving yards in the postseason with eight receptions and a touchdown as well in there I I think moving forward concade will be that dude right I did mention on the wide receiver show I'm happy to also take a shot on Ken Coleman this week obviously in deeper leagues you shouldn't need to start Keon Coleman just yet or maybe you take a chance on him in DFS but K kage should have a great start to his second year and I'm happy to have him in my starting lineup yeah and some things you do feel right I mean we were waiting for some things to play out but we know that King Kate has to be a big part of what they do all the indication says that they're going to use two tight end sets keep them on the field for James Cook so that's good for him and Dawson Knox being on the field and really having a Pres of another tight end is also helpful here because they can slip out concade and really help in that sense so I do like this totally for concade great match again the Cardinals are just a mess defensively so it really lines up well with the strength and weaknesses here of their respective opponent yeah uh Kyle pittz Dalton concade and then Evan Ingram these are all guys that are great pass catchers right at the tight end position extremely athletic uh and can get downfield so Evan Ingram is also a guy we have ranked High we don't love him so much for this entire season uh but in this Miami matchup right where we expect the Jaguars to have to keep up with this Dolphins offense that knows how to score at home I it's hard to Envision Evan Ingram doesn't see a lot of targets right so you have him at Titan six I have him at Titan seven now the thing is he doesn't score a ton of touchdowns right so it's really going to have to come from the targets and the receptions um but the Dolphins did allow the fifth most fantasy points two tight ends last year seventh most receptions six most receiving touchdowns so maybe he get in and you'd think Jaylen Ramsay's gonna like lock down the you know whatever side he's on for the wide receivers um and they're just gonna have to focus a little bit more on getting Evan Ingram the bar ball plus like Christian Kirk has already been banged up that dude's always banged up but yeah I expect a nice solid start from Evan Ingram this week yeah I think the middle of the field is going to be the key again for Trevor Lawrence because not only do you have Jay Ramsey back there but now you have Kendall Fuller so this is really the strength of the Dolphins defense at this stage of those two guys are breaking in kind of a raven style offense here so that secondary or defense I should say so that secondary is going to be tough but inside I mean ker caho is an okay Nickelback and but Christian Kirk and him might be kind of matching up pretty well here so that should open things up for Ingram for sure again I I see it somewhere like a six for 70 type day for inam I could definitely see that probably not finding the end zone though look he had monster games last year where he didn't sniff the end zone so they they just don't throw him there that often yeah unfortunately now to the other guys in our top 10 I have David and joku at nine you have him a little bit lower because of the Dallas matchup it's a little hard but I do expect him to be heavily involved in this matchup right away Jake Ferguson makes both of our top 10 but he has a pretty tough matchup against Cleveland in Cleveland we know this cowboys offense isn't as good on the road so we have him a little bit lower down not pushed down too far um and then also of course Trey McBride he makes both of ours a little bit of a harder matchup on paper right again but with Matt Milano not there with them losing their safeties uh like Trey McBride should still have a day so Trey McBride also happy to start this week and have in my lineups for whether it be our regular leagues or also DFS I think Trey McBride's a very solid start as well we're going to get look at some of the backend QBs and tight ends you want to look at in your lineups this week so a lot of good stuff there that uh you can use when you're playing the streaming game so we'll dive right into it let's uh look at the quarterbacks first so if uh there's a guy in one side usually putting up numbers there has to be guy on the other side putting up numbers so those are the first two choices here so let's start first with Baker Mayfield I this QB 15 you is a qb1 startable in 12 team leagues as qb2 so what do we like about this Mayfield matchup besides how much we think Mike Evans is going to smash it I mean yeah that's really what it is right if we were predicting the other day that Mike Evans could get into the end zone twice then Baker Mayfield's probably going to have a really solid day the commanders were the best defense for Fantasy quarterbacks to play against last year I know they've made some changes but I still don't expect it to be great we also had Chris Godwin as a solid wide receiver like a low wide receiver two wide receiver three play you like K dton I mean if all of them are going to have a good game right uh Baker Mayfield has to have a good game and we saw a lot of good games from Baker last year he had that high upside especially towards the end of the year I mean from weeks 14 through the playoffs it was 20 points 29 Points 20 points 17 a terrible week 18 and then put up 27 fantasy points in the Wild Card round um so like Baker can have big games and I think this is going to be one of those yeah and everyone's looking at the change in offense coordinator will Dave Canalis leaving will bring down Baker but keep in mind he's worked with Liam con before and he had had some good success down the stretch when he was brief briefly with the Rams together so when you look at that I mean they do like using the tight end that's why I like gotton matchups are really good across the board for not only Evans and Godwin and utton but also getting Rashad white involved in the passing game so there are a lot of avenues here for Baker Mayfield to do well on top of maybe being in a little of a sneaky shootout there with Jaden Daniels yet another Heisman winner he's battling he seems to always be battling other Heisman winners now Matthew Stafford did not win the Heisman but he's winning a spot in our top 13 this week I have him exactly at QB 13 you have him at qb1 who's he playing he's playing Jared G where is he playing back in Detroit and he gets the Lions defense so all those things says he's gonna throw the ball a lot Cooper cup is fully healthy pukaa looks like he's going to be good to go all you need to tell me is he's got those two guys as his receivers against a so so pass defense right it's still a work in progress we'll see about Teran Arnold what he can do on the back end to help see if they can get Aiden Hutchinson some pass rush up but still lons are not going to transform their pass defense overnight there's gonna be availability for both these guys to do well for Goff we also might see a little bit of Kobe Parkinson here Tyler Higby is out here so he could uh use the tight end a little bit more so between those three guys and some of the other receivers and the volume of Stafford is going to get opposite golf I really like it this week yeah so would you rather go with Stafford or Mayfield I mean I guess in your rankings you're going Stafford here I think both are good plays I think the big question here is do you get cute enough and play a Mayfield or a Stafford over because these are some guys you drafted right Brock pie he gets the Jets in week one Joe burrow he gets the Patriots now we don't know what that defense GNA look like with Bill without Bill bich maybe it's not as Gary Dak is on the road against Cleveland Caleb Williams in his first ever NFL game I know we're happy to play J and Daniels but that's because they're rushing right like do you get cute and play Baker or Stafford over any of those guys yeah you gotta think about it especially I would say Prescott and py I mean these are two really tough pass defenses these guys are facing at least perties at hes that makes them feel a bit better we'll see what that yeah Trent Williams situation is even though however it goes right he could be rusty or they could go after him the pass rush is going to be tough no matter what for Brock berie so those type of pressure matchups haven't always worked his way Browns are just nasty against the pass they just don't allow all that much there they were the number two pass defense so Jets Browns were one two so if you're looking at that and maybe some low-scoring games and keep in mind the Cowboys defense and the 49ers defense are good too so it could be some low-scoring ugliness in those games but that says I want to be attached to a game that's GNA go off potentially so I trust Stafford a little bit more than Mayfield because I trust Jared gof a little bit more than Jane Daniels right so that's a little bit of a difference here that I'm pretty sure Stafford is gonna be playing from behind where I think Mayfield versus Daniels could be a pretty even back and forth game that's true that's a good point I I still I I won't be surprised if Mayfield finishes ahead of Stafford but I do have uh Stafford one spot ahead of Mayfield So I'm with you I'd go with Stafford he's my quarterback 11 this week now two other guys that are possible streamers right like if you're in a two quarterback League or um you're looking at a solid DFS play that's cheap um Gino Smith versus the BR Broncos and Daniel Jones versus the Vikings I know that sounds gross but Daniel Jones in both his career games against the Vikings I mean it's been fantastic uh so maybe that's like the one team he can face that he does well right even in that playoff game he put up over 375 total yards and two touchdowns uh but also with Malik neighbors I just expect him to be pretty good so I I think in this Vikings matchup this is a Sal week to play Daniel Jones in DFS or in a two quarterback league and then Gino Smith we've been talking about all these uh Seattle Seahawks weapons all week long is guys we like to play and DK metf and jsn and I Kenneth Walker I guess could steal some touchdowns but if we're excited for the Seahawks offense and Gino Smith becomes then an option to play in Fantasy yeah it's funny these are the two guys that got paid just a couple years ago coming off good fantasy Seasons that we didn't see coming right in 2022 then we started to trust them in 2023 that was a mistake so now we don't know what to do with them we have them as backend qy tws I think we're a little bit nervous on both fronts right I mean Daniel Jones has not given us a lot of inspiration coming off the knee injury yet in the preseason but we know he can run around and in the end he can put up numbers that way they you lose sick on Barkley so Jones might have to take off and run to help de sleary a little bit more I don't love this game in terms of scoring the Vikings and Giants but I think there can to be some yardage to be had here and I think Jones could at least get one touchdown with some good rushing numbers to support his passing so that makes him somewhat viable neither is all that attractive I think goo Smith keep in mind that I don't expect the Seahawks to struggle too much I think their defense is going to play well for Mike McDonald they'll probably want to run the ball Up Tempo a little bit so goo Smith's gonna have to put up his points early so again I just want to take a wait and see approach because I think not for maybe just me but all fantasy managers maybe want to to see what they do after disasterous Seasons last last year and just try to rebound to keep their jobs at this point and it's funny Drew lock was behind G Smith and now he's behind Daniel Jones so uh everyone wants to have drew lock or Sam how in there for these teams and so we gotta watch that as well at some point this season I will say with like I think I'm the only person supporting Daniel Jones at this time like left so I might just have to go all in and I'm in week one for DFS because I'm probably the only person that would even consider playing him so that might have to be my strategy this week now at the tight end position there might be a lot of people out there looking to stream this right maybe you punted the position maybe you didn't take a guy till really late or you took Brock Bowers and you don't feel comfortable playing him in his first NFL game until you see his usage and how you know all of that there are some guys out there that you could get now Tamm Hill is available in some leagues he was drafted in a bunch of them as well but if he's out there we really like him this season and also this week against the Panthers who allowed the most scrimmage touchdowns to running backs last season that's what Tes of Hill basically is right he's not really a tight end he's basically a running back H that can also throw the ball um so in that case with the tight end position I have him at tight end 11 this week you have him at tight end 12 it's always going to come down to the touchdowns for him but I could definitely see him scoring at least one this week yeah I think he's gonna be involved too because Jan Johnson is not there at tight end so they're going to need him in that I guess quote traditional role maybe we have some more wrinkles here and again we talk about Clint kubak maybe being a little creative with not only Tam Hill but rashed Shahed to of his faster players out there giving maybe some rushing opportunities so I think you'll be creative coming over with 49ers I'm not saying you're gonna T to become Debo Samuel part two but some of those wrinkles will probably be factored in he's just too good of an athlete we know Dennis Allen loves him Dennis Allen's trying to save his job he's going to try to get Tamm Hill in the game if there's any issues here with DK Carr I also think the Saints will have no trouble moving the ball on this kind of shell of panthers defense at this point yeah so I think ta Phill is a really solid play now Hunter Henry if you want to go with a more like uh conservative I guess approach here against the Bengals we have them both ranked relatively high for where Hunter Henry will probably be ranked most the season you have him at tight end 13 I have him at 14 the Bengals allow the second most fantasy points to tight ends last year second most receiving yards to tight ends and like Hunter Henry had big weeks last year right he was a top three fantasy tight end in four weeks that was the same amount as Samu pora and Travis Kelce had and Henry is the only Patriots player that will be playing for them in week one that had a single receiving touchdown last year he did lead the team with six uh so I just think Bret's gonna have to lean on Henry I I think uh like too many young guys around him he's going to lead on Hunter Henry and I think he's a solid enough choice if you're looking for someone to play this week yeah I mean they really have to get the ball to someone in this game and they also like Hunter Henry is a blocker they're going to be sticking to the running game quite a bit with rre Stevenson I think Henry is still a much better receiver than blocker but when we look at it Henry has to be on the field and contribute something right we saw even when M Jones was a rookie that Henry was producing so maybe jacobe proed there and maybe when we have at one point Drake M there that it's going to be security blanket either way for this team they need to throw to him I mean right now we have some hopes for Jaylen pulk and some of these other receivers but with no Kendrick Bourne Hunter Henry is goingon to be the trusted guy in this offense early in the season yep absolutely and then to give you two more guys to name and more for DFS than actually ever feeling brave enough to put him into your lineups but your flyer for week one is Kon of course it is you love that man you have met Titan 14 mine is Greg doich you can make fun of me too because I I apparently love that man but against the Seahawks the reason I like dolz is because he still has the opportunity to be a top two Target on the Broncos in any given week we don't know who the number two target is yet the Seahawks were very leaky against tight end last year uh allowing the seventh most receiving yards to the position last season and now they lost both of their starting inside linebackers who were their top two leading tackers from last season and Bobby Wagner and Jordan Brooks and then they also cut their safety quandre dig so like there I do think there's an area here where they could really hurt the Seahawks defense uh with using Greg doit over the middle and then also like we're we're saying the CX are gonna put up all these points right and easily beat up on the Broncos they're GNA have to pass a lot throughout the entire game uh to try to keep up like especially towards the end of the the game if they're trying to know make a comeback so I I think he's a solid play in full PPR leagues yeah he became a little bit more interesting once the team cut Tim Patrick right and then they had to move up Marvin Mims behind Courtland Sutton so you're right the key for dich is gonna be Kenny established himself as a third target on this team maybe mixing the running backs a little bit juliia mcgoffin and javat Williams doing some of that but that's the key for doich are they going to treat him like that kind of slot receiver deao here to help as Mims has to maybe play a little bit more on the outside with no Patrick so it'll be interesting again this is the Broncos offense that we won't get the whole picture until they're out there on the field a little bit so he might as well take a shot at some of these guys I think he's a great tournament play right Greg delich put him out there he's on the cheap you can load up the rest of your team and you could really do it here with delich there now kton look it's not just uh I like the player but the scheme should be a little bit more tight end friendly this year with li con I mean again when they had some receiver injury issues with the Rams Li clone made Tyler hick be the number one target so this team is still figuring out a few things right Evans and Godwin are the guys they do like jayen McMillan but they want to put a lot on a rookie here in the very first game and again I think a lot of things are going to open up here again no Cameron curl in this game that's pretty big I mean he moved on to the Rams so that's a good cover safety that's out of there so they got to use the middle of the field better that's the bottom line here and they're going to do with Godwin in the slot might as well do with auton as well down the scene listen he runs a lot of routes he has a lot of opportunities he's clearly not very good because he never gets targeted but he does have the opportunities so we'll give it to him there and this is again why Baker Mayfield should have a big week right like so many of these weapons we expect can get it done against the commanders that is it for today's episode and and all of our you know top players this week
