[BS] From Music to Medicine - AirPods’ Game-Changing Hearing Aid

Introduction: Overview of AirPods Pro 2 we are talking about airpods today airpods 2 airpods Pro 2 specifically Hearing Aid Feature: FDA Approval and Details airpods Pro I think is how you're supposed to pronounce it and we're going to be talking about two kind of specific things inside of it the first one is the hearing aid so we're going to continue on from before but there's obviously a new announcement today so we're going to dive into that a little bit and then we're going to jump into Ai and look into that and we're going to Branch off into a few things over here so some of them will be like sensors and Healthcare future of healthcare things like that Biometrics and the other one will be personal assistance so our own personal agents things like that so for today's news yesterday's news um probably about 12 hours ago or something the FDA has actually now approved the hearing aids feature it's going to be the first overthe counter software hearing aid um which is pretty interesting uh one of the last Brain streams that I spoke about this I quoted the figures being like 5,000 to 10,000 a lot of people seem to be quite now I'm not really in the market of this it seems to be that people are kind of being a little bit more uh less conservative and saying it's more around the 1,000 to 5,000 Mark so like 1,000 2,000 kind of thing um but the idea over there is very simple we're making it much easier much more accessible much more affordable so whether it is something like $10,000 or even if it's something like $11,000 but the fact that you need to have appointments go into a specialized clinic in order to take a hearing test to have many appointment um in order I think I said that in also to be able to um go through all these tests that you don't necessarily understand then get hearing aids that might not peer very well with your devices um or things like that this just makes it a lot more accessible so very quickly uh they have a prevention that's coming to I think more than the airpods and more iPhones and prevention mode is basically just like if you go into places where some noises get a bit too loud they're going to clip the things that go into Crazy Des BS so like sirens or lawnmowers or rock concerts or things like that and we'll make it a lot easier so they'll um serve more as like earbuds type of thing uh then you've got the hearing test New Hearing Test Integration: Easier and More Accessible which we've had them before this is not the first time a hearing test has come to an iPhone but this is the first um first party app first time it's come to a first party and also the the other ones that I've seen they do allow you to upload an audiogram and do it that way but most of the time it the figures don't go in well and therefore you have to plug it in yourself and even then you have to play around with it so you need to actually know an audiologist or have someone that can look over these things to make sure you've done it correctly Apple's making it insanely simple so obviously a very Apple kind of way uh from what I've seen they've using some sort of Acoustics I've saw I read a little bit about the testing but it seems to be very simple they play a little sound and you kind of just press a button and say like when when you can hear it they create a profile and then this kind of translates to everything automatically it's not just your music it's now your phone calls movies YouTube any music anytime or audio books podcast things like that anytime that you have audio your profile is on your device moved around it's also going to be accessible to MacBooks uh I think that means MacBooks with your airpods um that the MacBook is just going to be able to probably take care of some of the processing power I'm not 100% sure cuz I as was under the impression that most of the processing power is on the airpods so I don't know if the macbook's doing something interesting not sure about that but I do know if you have IOS 18 and lat out you have this so anyways that's the kind of nitty-gritty details of the FDA approval so it's going to come sooner we're told it's going to come probably guessing was 18.2 but this is before the FDA had approved it so it might come in 18.1 but I'm not a a News Channel or a review Channel um I just wanted to share that because it's it's interesting when I'm Comparison: AirPods vs Traditional Hearing Aids looking at videos I was shared a video from like a year ago saying like the airpods they're not close enough and it was showing like a third party app that was doing it and it was still a little bit difficult to actually get to a point of saying like oh this is something that could actually work it could St you know stand in as a hearing aid to now a year later where Apple has actually implemented the test and also the hearing aid function and getting approved by the FDA it means a lot of time a lot of research has gone in and like I've said it's the basics are the same as the hearing right you've got a microphone on the outside picking up what's going on in the outside world you've got a computer the brains on the inside and you've got a speaker on uh in the middle and you got a speaker on the inside that's piping you exactly the frequencies that are for you your profile the the things that we have to look at are in terms of like wearing this and comfortability hearing aids are made to disappear but they don't Disappear Completely and that's where you have um these issues of oh this is only that where they have um the Sigma where it's like okay I can I can recognize that's a hearing aid therefore I'm now going to associate with you with someone that with a disability but weirdly enough it doesn't treat it like your glasses where glasses are like oh you still have a disability right your eyes are not working as well as they should be and we're giving you something to help you balance that out and kind of get to having good Vision but we don't we don't we don't um like some with hearing aids we um might speak slowly or louder or try be more clearer we don't do that with images with some with glases we don't you know pull things up or you know they've corrected their Vision they're taking care of it they're in society just like normal we don't try re accommodate them because of what they've got which is what we have with hearing aids um so will the airpods change that well they're not really designed to be worn all day that's big that's a bit of an issue the social stigma of wearing something physical in your ears while having a conversation is still pretty rude and that's why I was actually working on this product 8 which was basically I mean now nowadays I can explain it like airpods but that don't go in your ears something that can sit on your ears that can pipe the sound into your ears privately so no one else hears what's going on but allows you to walk around the world with nothing inside of your ears so you can get the benefits of this so here like a hearing Potential Stigma Reduction: AirPods as a Universal Device a would be phenomenal because well you probably want the noise cancelling so you don't hear you don't get it um mixed up but I'm only just assuming that because um but if you can't really hear very well and and also the this feature is not for people that like don't have very don't have hearing loss at all and it's also not for people that have crazy hearing loss it's it's more like the mid-range like minor to like mid um so maybe if you don't really hear much and I pipe at you even without blocking off all the other sounds maybe that's I'm not sure how that works um but it is quite but this whole point of like hearing EDS you wear all day they're designed to be you know keep a having conversation cuz they're tucked away they're meant to be as invisible as possible whereas with airpods they're not they're very very visible to people and that people have told me like with eight the idea like people pushing back against it it's like oh people will figure this out it's been probably 8 years or something um and it's still not socially acceptable like people do wear them and a lot of people to get around this they take about one ear which loses the whole 3D thing loses immersion also it means that you have to make a gesture in order to do things you don't you you sacrifice kind of like which world you're in which world you're balancing in so that was what we were trying to solve with eight but with airpods it still has that issue but I think the point that we should be focusing on over here is that we're getting to a point where we're got a device that in the US cost $250 and does not require you to go to an audiologist does not require to go you know to wait in line to make an appointment somewhere you could do the hearing test at home I'm not sure if it's a couple minutes you know 1 minute or 10 minutes but it's definitely less than 10 minutes it's it's in that range of minutes right you're not leave in the comfort of your home and it's that you've probably already got for your music your podcast your movies things like that that's in your pockets for Future Potential: What Comes Next in Healthcare and Devices $250 you don't have to start dealing with insurance and things like that like that's insanely simple that's going to change the game now the people on the extreme ends yes you can argue about that you can argue about well battery life doesn't allow you to wear it all day and what will the hearing aid feature do to the battery life that's interesting um and you know there there are a few things of like how am I going to appear in public but if it's definitely I think you would have to agree quite interesting and it can only get better from here now I do think that this is going to happen also with other disabilities I think like with glasses like I spoke about last time which we can get into another time but it also points to this idea of like what's this going to look like when our he when our devices have more and more features and we solve the battery life are we going to be wearing airpods or are we going to require a different kind of device that doesn't block our ears but gives us these phenomenal Powers because think about it the next step hearing aids is amazing right we've tackled a few thing we've tackled quite a few things all the airpods have hearing aids is a great feature imagine once they start putting sensors it's a lot of people that are wearing like armbands and I kind of feel like I want to do a second um continuation of this because I just saw an armband the other day and I want to talk about these kind of thing but just in without diving into you know that actual product and going into fitness bands and things like that which um I will do in tomorrow's brainstream because I've got a lot to say on it this idea are putting in a lot more Closing Thoughts: AirPods’ Place in Personal Health Tech sensors that before were like like on your Apple watch and wearing them and getting personalized um suggestions but but Based on data what will that do and finally we didn't touch upon it and I hope we'll touch upon it next time is the AI this idea of having a personal assistant what would that look like with communication conversation and what would that look like all day what will the airpods look like or will we need a new class of devices anyways that's it for now I will see you guys in the future
