Voters head to the polls in crucial by-election that may forecast Canada's political future

some voters in Montreal and Winnipeg will head to the polls Monday in two byelections they are drawing attention right across the country the results could say a lot about the mood of Voters Quebec Bure Chief Jean Viv Bosman is in the writing of lalar Verdan Jean Viv what are voters saying Heather this is a vibrant diverse neighborhood and what should have been a bit of a non-event byelection here is turning into something that's very much in the spotlight along a pedestrian street lined with cool restaurants something un usuals unfolding there's chatter about a suspense filled by elction this in a writing that has long been all but a sure bet for federal liberals I don't know yet to be honest I really don't know I haven't made up my mind uh I'm not sure I'm going to vote for the Liberals I did not like the way uh David was handled and basically tossed on the side David is former Justice Minister David lametti who stepped down when he was shut out of cabinet triggering this vote this area was for 20 years the writing of former Prime ministerul Martin a long time liberal Fortress though in 2011 it did fall to the NDP when the orange waves swept through Quebec I've always voted liberal it's just a party that uh that I feel comfortable with this time though it's shaping up as a three-way race between the Liberals the NDP and the BL Kika this byelection is really going to be an important moment this could be a crucial moment for the Liberals a loss could signal their losing even the core party base I have some some pretty serious reservations it feels like the the part as a whole is a bit of a mess especially in the wake of the loss of another liberal stronghold Toronto St Paul is is really their riding to lose right um and um the NDP has somehow because also their candidate Craig s is quite known but the block is uh is also campaigning very aggressively in that writing still belon says he's not convinced a loss here would push prime minister Justin Trudeau out and for a look at the NDP strength he's looking to the Manitoba byelection the NDP has won 10 of the last 11 elections in Winnipeg's Elwood Transcona writing the other went to the conservatives and analysts expect they might be pulling an allnighter here Heather waiting for results all right John have thank you
