reMarkable Paper Pro: New Device Reaction

Intro so remarkable released their new PR by surprise I mean some people got emails ahead of time someone was in my comments a couple days ago was like oh they're coming out with their new device they got a event coming up I'm like wow do tell so then someone else got an email today and I'm just like okay so this is definitely happening today I missed the punch I'm a little bit late but um let's definitely dive in to see what they're talking about here I haven't taken a look so we're going to take a look at this together and kind of figure out what what do we have is is it better than the Remar able too um I know they went different directions I'm just looking at the the picture here so it's color right and someone in my comments also mentioned that maybe like a month ago they were like dude when the new remarkable comes out it's going to be color they're going to keep their too their remarkable too and they're going to release a color a color device and I thought uh that's an interesting comment to make I didn't think much of it but here we are I got insiders in the comments you guys stay there feed me info I hope believe you next time I'm sorry my bad so without further over there just hit that like button for me so remarkable Overview A released their new product it's called the remarkable paper Pro it is indeed a color device like has been predicted in my comments my people in the comments are so awesome man so smart people teaching me stuff sharing information with me and this is one of of those things um so a color device it looks like it's bigger says it's the ultimate paper tablet with 11.8 in color display adjustable reading light and unmatched paper light feel now I caught a glimpse of the video before I pulled this website up so just let's tell you that right up front people are talking about the paper like feel like it's something different okay um so let's just dive a little bit deeper into that so we got um free shipping so it's available now for $579 so what what do we got that's about almost 100 or $200 more than the than the last one um and they not calling it the two so it's the paper Pro so obviously they're going to be selling their old one alongside this um I just got done wrapping up um recording and somewhat editing uh update to the eote the the tablet by Penstar and I mentioned how that device the remarkable 2 is still on the market with the specs that it has and and the specs on the eote everyone was kind of like put on caution about because they were kind of low and I was making the point in my video that you know the remarkable 2 is still selling well even with stats that's not even comparable to the eote and you know it doesn't doesn't bother anybody that hasn't Hur its viability um so so that video should be out tomorrow but um the point is it's a still a viable machine even with those stats so I wouldn't expect them not to still be selling this and for them to come out with a color uh device to me must mean that they have like pioneered some kind of new technology because why would they do this when it's worse you know like why would they do this and make a product that looks to be thicker they're making a sacrifice here for that thinness they're going in the wrong direction as far as the thinness goes they must have made that that um compromise for a reason um so let's let's keep let's keep looking here so we we just got to the overview and the ultimate paper tablet um let's let's I'm going go ahead and look at this video real quick and uh I'll give you my thoughts on when we come back [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] okay so a cloth cover case that's clutch I really do like that I appreciate that [Music] okay so it looks like to me um the the most interesting thing that came out of that for me is that that case that they have for it it's a full case it looks like his cloth um I like that mixing old style with new tech I like I really do like that um natural writing digital paper with natural writing I mean the display still looks white the background does um so it doesn't look like it's taking too much of a hit if any in the whiteness category although um it would have had to right because color layer that's at least one more layer we got there even closer to writing on paper the texture surface of the custombuilt display is crafted to deliver realistic friction and even more natural writing feel like fast responsiveness and a PIN to Ink dis distance oh pin to Ink distance I like that a distance of less than 1 mm make remarkable paper Pro the peak of paper realism so um super slim distance now I'm wondering after that statement because the pen star doesn't have a touch layer if what that distance actually is that may be sub 1 mm distance um we'll see why it feels like like paper so let's see here why remarkable paper feels like paper writing on paper I see what they're doing here okay they're calling it remarkable paper Pro because there's going to be a remarkable paper that probably doesn't have color I don't it's probably not ready yet the thinness they're probably going for something super thin I don't know what the thing is but you can rest assured there's going to be a remarkable paper that's on the horizon here um and this is the pro variant of that probably because it has color um and maybe maybe a bit faster it it's Carbon-filled Pen Tips a five minute read all right so it looks like they have a carbon field pin tip that's interesting with that delivers realistic friction with pinpoint accuracy with every stroke I'm interested to see what that's about tilt and pressure sensitivity zero wobbles you won't experience any jittery lines or frustrating glitches just moveth natural riding and sketching so yeah it looks like a carbon tip maybe it's maybe that's their a new felt it's you know what I mean um it could be marketing for a new felt oh no that looks different okay all right I'm digging this pin and the nib they have on there that looks interesting okay all right let's go back to the site here all right so a true color ink display so let's look and see what they got here I love their visuals their visuals are so good all right so unlike other digital Gallery 3, 4, 5? paper displays the canvas color display un remarkable paper Pro uses millions of color ink particles creating better saturation and depth a broader range of natural tones and more sophisticated blending so um yeah the they've they' it looks like they've gotten some technology that um is different and newer than how we handle typically handle color on the Kido 3 displays that are out now that most people are using on their devices um which uh there is no color pigment in those devices there's just a filter on those devices that um when uh they are blocked you don't see those colors and when they're not blocked you see those colors and they do that with black and white pigment so the same thing that they're using in the non-color displays uh this sounds like they're using color pigment it says yeah millions of color ink particles so I think the only displays that used that was the gallery displays um they used I think they used color ink particles I could be wrong let's do some research on that real quick yeah so this is moving colors into place there so um magenta blue and yellow is that the colors they're using yeah yeah they've clearly made some advancements so they figured out a way to make it work better than what it had been working because it seemed like people were pulling out of the the gallery 3 technology and and you know who knows what was coming after that but the pen The Pen perfected we'll see um our new markers are the Pinnacle of digital handwriting technology they don't look like it I got to be honest with you combine precise control and incredible responsiveness with all day Comfort um the perfect pen it doesn't look like it my dude it doesn't have a clip on it so it's not functional in that way perfectly weighted and balanced the market feels natural in the hand and it's sensitive to the nuances of your writing style as a real pen it snaps magnetically to the remarkable paper Pro locking it securely in place okay so it does what the last one did uh staying your writing flow for longer with a finely textured finish for a better for better grip and extra Comfort marker plus also comes with a built-in eraser for making precise quick Corrections without interruption but no button I get it everyone doesn't like buttons I happen to like buttons and think they the way of the future uh reading and comfort day or night uh rather than emitting harsh blue light okay I don't care about the blue light thing reading Light low Anti-Glare glare the glare I do care about and it looks like they have a um their anti-glare film is better than what it was on the remarkable 2 and remarkable twos was phenomenal so um yeah this thing handles glare like a champ I did a comparison in my video I got coming up in another day or so um with the remarkable 2 and the eote and the go 10.3 on glare and boy uh the differences Sustainability are Stark all right sustainable ideas remarkable paper Pro is are most sustainable paper tablet yet with more repairable design recycle materials and improved durability curious about what else we've been up to in this space all right so that may explain why it's a thicker device um they've gone ahead and taken in initiative to make it more modular and repairable as the biggest environmental cost of your production is its production it's very likely the most sustainable product you can get is the one you already own okay so yeah is a it is a new repairable design sustainability benefits that we're thrilled to be to able to talk about our current estimate our current estimate is a 74% increase in the number of components that can be retained and reused under repair compared with remarkable 2 okay all right so they've made the the switch to a more sustainable model um makes sense so considering that the days of thin devices may be over um because you can't make devices that are as thin as the remarkable 2 and the go 10.3 and make them like modular and make them easily Color Canvas repairable oh so here we got a diagram okay so this is how the actual technolog is working um it's similar to how newspapers are printed except that it's happening in real time time and I've made that analogy Before It's Curious we measured these devices in PPI when they should be measured just how newspapers are measured which is in DPI uh dots uh per inch instead of pixels per inch but whatever now imagine that even after adding the countless new combinations that allow you to read and write and color we also cut the response time of that ink by 40% the challenge was making all of this happen without you even noticing so yeah they they've definitely made strides to the gallery um technology for sure so they're showing you how they create the different colors with the three basic colors um magenta um cyan and uh FrontLight yellow also they have a front light on the device now so color and a front light interesting what would be Materials interesting if they made a touchless remarkable that would be kind of cool all right so it looks like they've built a very high quality machine I mean I don't think anyone would expect anything less from that company um they're claiming that they've made the device uh look like a stack of papers I guess that's why the creases are in there but that why would you I don't think that looks like a stack of paper to me I mean it looks impressive it looks cool but it definitely does not look like a stack of papers but whatever dude um make it your own personalize your paper Pro to keep it protected want say how Thoughts On Specs many cases folios book folio a type folio and a book folio so basic basically it's a color device um that they've uh definitely made a more pleasurable experience than what the gallery technology was before now um they did the same thing with their previous device with the markable too they took um The Carter HD display made some tweaks to it and you know kind of made it their own canvas display if you will so um it looks like they've done the same thing with Gallery um here I'm not sure which which one three four I don't think we've gotten up to five yet um but regardless um very impressive I mean I got to say because that's how you can still have that minimal distance between ink and Pen um with color on eink is the only way you're going to do that is have color pigment um and right now before this all of the color devices for notetaking have been using the cido 3 which is basically putting a color layer over all of the other layers on the eink device to kind of uh simulate those colors being shown um very unique I like that and I I didn't think it was going to happen and it's bigger um so that's the take away from that very finely crafted device which we knew it would be with color bigger um they didn't sacrifice um the um pin to Ink distance at all it looks like it's it may have gotten better with this device device um despite having color what else I mean man uh I mean that's that's the to take away from the overview so let's look at the features we got here um features and Features specifications paper with digital Powers nine writing tools multiple templates that's normal stuff canvas color display now that is not normal write annotate using nine distinct colors or blend to create many more all right uh and these colors are definitely going to be more vibrant because Gallery is a way more vibrant techn than the cido 3 so the colors on this are going to pop and look way better than what they did and could have ever done on the cido 3 displays the only thing is um you know books products likes dis they let you display video uh moving images uh a lot of scrolling a lot of animation and stuff so um they would not be able to effectively take you make use of the gallery technology with all that going on in my op opinion but remarkable um they're not trying to do any of that I guarantee they're not trying to do any of that with this paper Pro it's going to be as simplified as the remarkable 2 is um you're not going to there's not going to be access to an app store there's not going to be um these situation you get yourself in where you're scrolling through files or scrolling through menus and there's going to be none of that here they've made this this technology functional because you're not going out it's it's not going to have to or be expected to do much and I guarantee that's why they've gone with this and that's why other companies may not have been able to go with that um I don't know if cost is is an issue as well but that's the only thing I think of why other companies wouldn't have taken this dive and remarkable has taken it um is that they're not trying to do much with it they're like we just want to give people a choice of color when they're doing their annotating and their writing and stuff you know people I don't think people are going to be drawing masterpieces with the even if they did I think the gallery display is way more than capable of handling drawings you know there's still still images you know at the end of the day um but yeah very interesting um adjustable reading light so it now front light as well so now we got a color and a front light now this front light is going to add some you would imagine it adds some thickness to the D the distance or it adds some distance between the ink and the actual pen um or the display that you're writing on you would think that that light layer would add add some distance um we'll see subtle and ey friendly for a total comfort and no harsh blue light photo tag search normal stuff mobile and desktop apps normal stuff convert hand reading text normal stuff uh distraction free software share and collaborate okay this is all the rest of this stuff is all normal stuff that we can get from the remarkable to um as far as the hardware goes um 525 grams okay so that's it's quite a bit heavier than most other tablets in this particular category um for and that's with cases I don't know if this is without the case or with case but um the display canvas color display based on E yep there we go okay so um canvas color display based on E in gallery 3 um they I don't know what they do to to be able to Rebrand it as a as another kind of Technology as far as canvas color um but very interesting uh resolution 229 pixels per inch so they've upped it by two or three pixels per inch um Palm rejection very nice um that goes into me wanting a pen only display because my hand and palm rejection is it's crucial for me a processor again here we go so we got a 1.8 GHz four core processor um the same processing speed as the eote um that I'll be talking about in another day or so um yeah storage in Ram two two gigabytes of of ram you see what I'm saying they know that you don't need a lot of like a lot of like horsepower and like computing power to run these machines they went from one gigabyte of ram in the remarkable two to to just deely get the 2 gabt of ram in the paper Pro so you see so I don't think I don't think raw computing power is important in these devices they know that and they're saving themselves um the headache of having to deal with with that and saving the customers the headache of having to pay for that extra horsepower that they don't need um I'm calling it horsepower just bear with me here computing power um battery um 5,000 milliamp hours so they increase the battery size definitely um what else we got here that's really the only thing software operating system so they still running their custom Linux based operating system um and I don't think there's anything else new here yeah there's nothing else new here in this device other than color and having a front light and being sustainable as far as being modular um I may be missing something unless they've added some other features in the software but hardware-wise it looks like front light color modular which makes it more sustainable um and that pen that has that unique tip I'm really interested in that so those are the four things I'm Comparison coming from with this particular particular thing so far all right let's look at the comparison which we don't really need the comparison I've been talking about this comparison the whole time yeah it's thicker heavier bigger uh the 20,000 colors that's really nice that's really nice um the bigger display is really nice too got to tell you I I would value a bigger display um adjustable reading light all right so here we go the pen to in distance 920 micromet and 946 microm oh or is that Nano nanometers 920 nanometers and 946 nanometers all right so they they decrease the distance on this particular display e all the while adding a front light I don't know how that's possible um I really want to see how they did that the adjustable reading light that's going to be crucial so it looks like we got here so let's name call it out right now so it looks like what we have is a color display with a front light of some type uh maybe not a front light but it does definitely has a light with illumination so a color display with illumination a new PIN um modularity SL sustainability um what else do we have here man I'm I'm rather surprised to be honest with you I am rather surprised oh and the new writing film on the on the screen it would have to be crazy good for me to care I'm got to be honest with you I care about that riding distance though I really want to know how they did that I'm going to do my research and figure out how they did this front light or this lighting situation without increasing the distance between the ink and the pen um I'm really interested in that and I'm curious to see how well the color works and how good it looks um but Final Thoughts I'm not wowed by this at all to be honest with you you know it's it's a it's a Evolution not a revolution okay it's just an evolution of what they've been doing and like I said I totally expect a a remarkable paper to come very shortly I I really do um because if this the paper Pro they going to come out with a remarkable paper but if we think about it stat-wise it's not anything that's that's touching any other maker right now as far as people that care about stats you're going to be looking at a book's product but um I don't think it's invading on what the supern note's doing supernote doesn't care about I now I got to do me a series of videos of why people don't care but I don't think supern note's going to be caring about this um I don't think books is concerned about this too much um because it's still not doing anything that they that they can do um this this Gallery this color on this gallery 3 display is not going to be a be able to perform like the color on the books products um even though the books products color is not going to be as vibrant and they don't have as many colors the performance is what they're after um not how it looks and it looks like remarkable as like we care about how it looks not necessarily the performance um and that bears out in the specs that they chose for the device too they don't care about performance um they want it to work how they want it to work as long as it works how they want it to work they're fine all right so I'm probably going to do another video or two or three on ranting about this particular topic so stay tuned for that get described you won't want to miss it um yeah I'm not impressed I like the direction they're going to be honest with you it seems like what they should be doing but I'm not like blown away this doesn't change anything for me it's like uh if I get it cool you know I am interested in I am interested in getting it for one reason and one reason alone I don't have a gallery 3 device I want one so and this is the only one that's on the market that's doing what I would want it to do which is no taking um so yeah I'm interested for that reason alone but it were helping my workflow any no I don't see this like adding to my workflow or putting me in a position in my workflow that I'm not at right now um yeah so it's interesting I'm just not super impressed by it but we'll talk more all right you guys go ahead and like the video if you liked and then until next
