Oklahoma AP Poll Ranking, Jackson Arnold Camp Struggles?

Foxon Sports podcast with my son G Todd Fox and we are missing half of our crew today I know Kellen and Ganon Ganon just went back to school um he started back well I think he starts in a couple weeks but he's an RA this year so he'll be there and Kellen only has another week or two left of his uh he's got a second job he's been doing um down in Atlanta so he'll be done with that here pretty soon so he'll be back for in time for the football season and then we'll also whenever U kicks off and all that we'll have a lot of uh a lot of C on here as well so she'll be talking as a lot uh because she's as big a sooner fan as any of them maybe a little bigger just saying but think a little bit more and you know I mean you obviously have no life so we're on here every week that's true so we did we we missed it the last couple of weeks uh we had a lot of different things coming up and going on uh and plus the fact that we talked about it earlier there's just not a Discussion of the Olympics whole lot going on it's that lull during this during this uh time of year um you know with with football getting ready to start basketball being over so it was a good little twoe uh break and now we're we're back at it but we first I need I I need think about this we're going to talk about this real quick um what were your thoughts and and if you had much of it on the Olympics did you have any Olympics thoughts at all where did China get their gold medals I have no idea where did they get 40 40 yeah like I don't know I never saw them in any final I ever saw on TV obviously they won in something everyone's like pingpong and swimming but us say what did they win break dancing we got we got a bronze but yeah like I don't understand yeah where did they get their gold medals and also Steph Curry is magical LeBron amazing still like it is kind of funny just to watch the the USA still have to rely so heavily on a bunch of 35 Plus year olds I know that's um great point because the thing is is usually recently I say usually you know I haven't been rooting for Steph Curry at all but then you it's you know you you're for him when he's on the United States team so you're you're rooting for him and the guy was insane like I don't know how many three-pointer did he make seven or eight what was it uh I think I think he's seven yeah yeah and then like the game before was like eight or nine also hit eight or nine yeah and hit a ton right there at the end I mean and it's just like and the thing about it is like a other teams are getting better other you know countries are getting a lot better but they don't have that full roster yet will they eventually it's possible because I mean they the the the mount like they've come from since since I've been watching in the 80s which I mean I watched in the 70s but um I really think of the Dream Team time frame uh when it really started kicking off because originally it was just the college players that played in it and now it's all the you know the NBA players and it's just amazing how much different it is but these other other countries have gotten really really good and they've got a few you know three or four people on the team that are pretty good but they don't have the bench strength like we do so that's what's been the amazing thing of it and then Kevin Durant I mean you know he he he as well and to your point all these guys are I don't know how old they all are 35 36 years old I mean LeBron's older than that so LeBron's 39 Curry's 36 and I think LeBron or KD is 35 but completely amazing also to like I was telling a buddy like it just gives me chills watching like you you mentioned rooting against Steph and obviously LeBron his whole career but like actually being able to see them on the court and like rooting for them feels pretty good and then you really kind of realize like okay these guys are still pretty good that good pretty good so makes you wonder though four years from now like cuz I would be surprised if Curry LeBron or KD are still on that team could happen not saying it won't but I'd be very surprised like who's going to be who's the next guys up you know what I mean that's kind like because they didn't use Tatum at all I don't know if he was hurt or what what happened there I just didn't use him but they didn't they didn't utilize him and you've got um Booker you've got Anthony Edwards some of these guys I mean they're good ball players but I mean compared to some of these other guys um I don't think as they're not in the Steph Curry LeBron or KD you know um level that makes sense but I mean as far as Olympics go I um it was entertaining because it was something to watch every night I do kind I do like the track and field stuff I like the uh like you said I mean a minute ago like Ping Pong things like that I mean it's fun to watch me I'm not gonna swimming yeah I don't I don't sit there and watch you know three four hours of it but you turn it on it's it's kind of it's kind of fun to watch but for us we we ended up with 40 we tied with China right and but we had the more more medals but we like yeah doubled them in medals yeah so that's that's pretty impressive obviously we're still uh the United States still still the king of all that but also it's just different go ahead yeah women accounted for 65% of our gold I didn't know that did they really 65% wow good for them man good for them that's awesome though um the girls basketball team I didn't watch any of that I didn't watch any of it but they they won by what is it one point is that right AB annihilated and I mean has been for like the last 20 years but annihilated everybody in their path and then won you remember that Kevin Durant shot a couple years ago that they lost on because of like tow was on the line that's basically what happened that was against Milwaukee wasn't itly Milwaukee and he hit that shot and looked like yeah he had his foot on line I know the women won in uh the soccer goal for sure the gold medal there so good for them so yeah that's fantastic news that's uh incredible but Olympics lot different now than what they used to be to me I mean in break dancing did you watch any break dancing no no that it's already not going to be a thing next Olympics they already said yeah I mean it's ridiculous which insane kind of hurts my feelings because I was actually gonna start trying out you know the next few weeks start getting in shape to break dance um but unfortunately I'm not going to be able to so well there goes my Olympic dreams you got anything else about the Olympics you're glad they're gone glad Excitement for the New Throwback Jerseys for the Oklahoma Sooners glad it's done I know it'll be uh in LA in uh four years I don't know where it is in two years for for the Winter Olympics no clue but uh we shall see but it um let me think here for a second what else that's it all right well let's talk uh we got uh some time left we're going to try to make we're not going to make this a very long podcast tonight for everybody um but Oklahoma Sooners came out with a um a jersey what do you what do you call it a throwback jersey is it it's to the Bud Wilkinson days um I personally think it's pretty sharp and I know they'll play they is it the second game against Houston I think is when they're goingon to use it are you gonna be at that game you are now for sure so yeah I mean those look really cool I like the helmet you know it's just a plain white helmet don't care um I think it's pretty impressive what are your thoughts I do really like it it helps that it's a throwback because my first initial reaction was like this is literally a red pin State jersey yeah the white helmet the plane red jersey but because it's a throwback makes it not to where it's like we're copying them it's and it makes sense too like the Hundred Years everything like that so but no I do love them it's just something different like we had the white helmets are more so like those kind of grainy looking white helmets Yeah a couple years back but these are definitely different and I think it the color match is definitely nice I enjoy it I was hoping I was hoping we'd finally get some more jerseys other than just the All Blacks that we've that we've been playing which are all right everyone else seems to be obsessed with them but I like if you said this if you do it you've got to make the red more red yeah but I could not see the name or the numbers we were like like who who was that what was that what player was that I mean it was terrible and I heard I don't know if this is true I heard rumor that they got rid of like they've um retired the is it they call them the Rough Riders is that what they call them yeah so those are gone when's the last time we wore those is it been I remember Spencer Spencer Rattler yeah that's kind of what I was thinking or or maybe I it actually might have been game Caleb against Kansas okay because that would have been later in the season and I don't remember wearing it at all since then so yeah but I mean it is what it is I'm I'm a traditionalist regardless I mean I like what we wear now of course tradition shows that they're going to wear these other ones that they're going to that they're going to wear I guess obviously that was back in the day before they had teams put logos on helmets um I think the Rams LA Rams are the first ones that ever did that uh which was smart it's pretty cool but I'm looking forward to it I really like that um you saw you've seen tons of pictures but they have that one of um you know the old one with bub Wilkinson and and then Brent venables what's funny is yeah you can see behind me we've got above my TV is is BU Wilkinson right here in the middle you got Switzer and you've got um Stoops over here Billy Sims and then this is Adrien Peterson right here um and that's kind of what we've done we're I'm obviously gonna try to find one for um for venables I tried to find one for the the coaching between Stoops and uh and venables but I forgot his name but I I don't want to do it anymore because I really not fan of the guy but we've had that photo for a while I'm going to see if I can blow that one up I just don't know if those things I mean I'm sure they're copyrighted right but I mean I don't know if I can get it made somewhere it' be kind of fantastic because I love that photo it's such cool and I would get the color one because I think it's cool because the one we have obviously Wilkinson um is is the uh is the black and white but anything else about the jerseys I think it's pretty cool do you like that kind of stuff oh I love it again the problem I had with the Rough Riders or whatever is we wore them too much we W like three times a year in one game we even W in the Big 12 Championship like made zero sense but if you do I I think if we had this one once a year and maybe one other once a year I think that'd be awesome I do but I do like just the kind of variety yeah well I'm I like the uh the tradition like I love the old jerseys that Bosworth and those guys wore it was kind of like a you seethrough in in a sense I mean to lighter red too oh man Discussion of the AP Poll Rankings and SEC Teams it was and that was so so nice man back in the day so wish we uh had some of those teams like we did but I think it's coming I think it uh will be coming very soon and speaking of uh Sooners AP poll what do you got there the AP poll came out for the beginning of the year yeah came in at 16 which put us at if I'm not mistaken I think seventh or so in the SEC we got Georgia Texas alababama Miss missou LSU Tennessee so yeah wow that's amazing eight teams of the top 16 are in the SEC so that's pretty impressive for sure and that's you know that's kind of where I would want to be honestly I mean I would to be honest with you I wouldn't even mind if we were 20th at this point because first off these rankings don't have anything they they don't matter it's just something to talk about right but I don't I don't want a bull bullseye on our on our on our back or chest or whatever you want to call it at the beginning of the Season which it's easy for me to say we're not going to I think we're going to have one regardless because of the fact that this is our first year in the SEC so um it is going to be it's gonna be big Bullseye for us for sure but I don't want to be highly ranked till the end of the year that's all I care about no I I mean I have no problem with what the beginning of the Season rankings are just because as long as you keep winning them you'll just keep Rising so I mean I do think Tennessee and Oklahoma they've always I think we're pretty interchangeable of just nobody really knows what to expect mainly because it depends on the first year quarterback sureo obviously overrated I don't understand I mean I get I get that they just came off of a big win beating a third string quarterback at Ohio State but 11's a little high in my opinion and then LSU I just don't understand the hype there like they lost so much and they didn't really replace it um I don't trust their quarterback very much and then their weapons aren't nearly as good especially with neighbors leaving we saw last year they didn't know what to do with all the defensive Talent so we'll see if that new defensive coordinator is able to switch that but right and then Notre Dame at number seven that that will make zero sense to me they'll probably be out of that within a couple weeks I would imagine yeah but they always are I yeah other than that I mean it seems pretty respectable I'm I I'm kind of surprised they got Texas at four I honestly thought they would have been hired just because of the brand but sure I mean they're probably feeling the same way just as long as they keep winning and then but no I like 16 it's only only their only way to go is up so well speaking of LSU that's the kind of that's the that's the kind of game you wish we had early because both teams kind of you know not really in the um set yet I guess in a sense yeah we playing the last game of the year so by that time the quarterback will probably be um a lot more comfortable obviously more confidence and some something like that if that makes any sense but of all those teams that are I'm just talking about SEC only above us and I think I already I already know the answer what you're gonna say but who is not deserving of where they're at I mean I mean yeah just because of what I've already said mou obviously yeah I don't get it either no they're putting so they got an easy schedule is it they' got an easy schedule fair and they had one last year too but they won a lot of close games last year and a lot of times that doesn't go two years in a row to where even if they you know one or two games that they they lose and they're I mean you know what I mean so that's kind of way I look at it yeah no I don't that quarterback last year like you just mentioned he got lucky his kicker bail them out multiple multiple games and you take those two games away then and honestly two kicks they shouldn't even have made they're they're probably barely ranked if that but I just yeah I don't get the hype around them and I think their fans are getting you know a little cocky about it but like they've they have never done anything so why should we think that they will I don't care if it was 20 years ago they haven't done anything they won the SEC Championship once when they switched over but so what like you got that's if that's what you're kind of relying on is just one sec championship in your history of a college football team then that's a little pathetic in my opinion but correct and then um speaking speaking of like missou like you live in Springfield Missouri and obviously we live there for many number of years what's funny is like I didn't see a whole lot now there may be it may be different now now that you're living there but I didn't see a whole lot of of missou fans there was a lot of Missouri State fans there was there was more OU fans that I saw than uh than missou now I know up you know getting to St Louis and Kansas City and all that kind of stuff you get more uh but what are you seeing any more now because I think it's uh probably a lot of people jumping on the bandwagon not yet but I'm definitely expecting once the season starts there's going to be quite a bit I would imagine like I think uh yeah I would expect quite a bit same thing with like the Chiefs like obviously we never knew a single Chiefs fan whenever we our first five years and then Mahomes has one good year and then every single person of their mom here is a Kansas City Chiefs fan but that's besides the point well I mean I working where I did I knew there was quite a few people that I knew that were Chiefs fans and I mean you know for that part of it you're kind of happy for them just because of that and if I were living there I don't know if it'd be any different for me um but I know you're there now but I mean I I just I can't stand them so and it's because they're so good that's it I mean if they were if they were a team that was 10 and seven every year you know or um and you know making the playoffs winning the division everyone you know i' I'd re for but since they're so good like New England was yeah you kind of you and I thought I I remember when they won that first Super Bowl I was like man you know I think I'm gonna uh this is a team I probably could get behind since Dallas ain't going to win anything and then sure enough that didn't happen I was like gota have somebody else it's like you know I like Cleveland I like min of Vikings there's some teams I'm not saying Cincinnati like there's teams that I like and I'm not my favorites or anything but if they won like these guys did I probably wouldn't like them either but you know because I'm not gonna it's not gonna be the Cowboys right so Rumors of Quarterback Performance in Camp speaking of OU and quarterbacks let's talk about this for for a quick second I'm hearing um from some you know reliable sources the fact that Jackson Arnold's having a little bit of a tough time right now in Camp and actually Michael Hawkins is out playing him what are your thoughts I have a hard time believing it I just don't believe that they're probably doing the same things out on the field I think with Arnold if that's true if that's what like it looks like to you know naked eye or whatever I would imagine it's because Arnold's probably doing the more indepth complicated plays the more in-depth reads the sters on defense whereas not that Michael Hawkins isn't going against the you know starters on defense but I think there's they're still probably taking it easy with him with the Playbook and the the reads on defense like I wouldn't expect they're getting the same opportunities in a sense out there but also I don't know I just have a hard time believing that Arnold's not because every again things I've read show that Arnold's kind of just you know asserting himself and taking a big leadership role and taking on the face of the University pretty pretty well so I don't know I have a hard time believing that but then at the same time we talked about it for three seconds before we started the recording but our defense in my opinion I think is going to be top 25 if not higher if you know everyone stays healthy so if he is struggling and if as long as it's not like you know pick after pick right I mean I think that's just a props to our defense and shows that our defense is ready to play well the thing is we got three games we got um what is it Temple we have Houston and tan which we let's be honest we should win those games he's got to gain that confidence in between that time frame uh in those games and before he hits Tennessee because Tennessee is goingon to be different that's gonna be a different game I think they got one of the best front fours in in college football um so that'll be definitely the best Ed rusher in the country too yes it'll definitely be uh fantastic to to watch but so I kind of look at it two things I mean two ways like you just said I think he was probably going up against the um the first team defense not saying Hawkins isn't doing that either but at the same time I still think that um Arnold is if we see what he did against Arizona and I grant I'm not saying Arizona is the greatest team of all time at all but he he looked he looked good and he did throw some picks and some of those in my opinion weren't his fault they they hit off the receivers and and like we've said before like I've said before i' I've talked to other people that don't agree with me as much but I think he's going to take chances that Gabriel didn't take Gabriel was a little Dink and dunk kind of guy which is fine because he didn't have the arm Jackson's going to throw the ball downfield you're going to see more exciting plays but at the same time you're going to see more interceptions most likely um he he can run the ball as well but at the same time if there is a little bit closer battle that's that means Hawkins is pretty good right so that's that's a good thing as well then we've also got Casey Thompson if something happen so again we're not you know SC is is a different Beast I don't think we're going to go in there and dominate I bust chops I love to bust chops on the SEC but um I you know it's GNA be a challenge but uh we'll see how that how how that goes yeah I think it's more of a testament to like you said to to Hawkins I think he's surprised a lot of people I know even in the spring game his his arm strength shocked a lot of people because he could rip that thing yeah but sure no I think that's more of just a test to you know how probably further along he is Than People expected coming in as not a very highly rated recruit in the end and then he he's new right like he's new here he wasn't there last right yes that's what I'm saying so he's had only uh the Spring ball I know he was there for the spring game and all that but uh Arnold's been there for quite a bit longer and then and the conversation kind of turned to hey you know if if Dylan Gabriel has a great year then I mean is that going to be a big issue with the Sooners with giving up on um Arnold and it's and it's a fair question it is because I think he's going to do fantastic Oregon I do think they're gonna lose a couple ball games I don't think they're um gonna go undefeated or anything but uh yeah what are your thoughts on that I mean you think that's any kind of a extra pressure or anything on Arnold at all no no I mean I think I think he probably has a little bit of extra pressure just from the fact that Oklahoma quarterback he one of the more highly rated coming straight in and I think we're all still kind of in a sense getting over you know the guy going out west and then taking the quarterback and Dylan Gabriel did great but it wasn't quite the same feeling and not quite as electric as the Bakers the kylers or even the Jaylen herdz right and so I think we're all hoping that is going to be that next you know great Oklahoma quarterback and I think he can be but obviously that it requires a lot of a lot of work a lot of success a lot of talent around you as well because you look at you know Baker and Kyler they had first round right receivers with them the whole time they were there so same with J what's amazing is it's only um 18 days because Jason White's um Jersey 18 today 18 days and and it's game are you going to the first game do you know yeah I didn't know if you're going to be able to cuz it's on a Friday night no took took off Friday hoping hoping I'll be there Thursday night but we'll see yeah well that's cool yeah that'll uh I can't wait I know a lot of Oklahoma Sooner fans can't wait either it's just can't believe it's already here we had a little cold snap uh last few days not today but and it was great it felt great and there was like football weather right but then I mean it's going to be Dam hot those first several games unfortunately but hey football is back almost and we'll be seeing some more of it here pretty soon all right so I've got one question for you um one of our little fun little questions we like to we like to ask or I like to ask here's the question for 24 hours would you rather be trapped in a mall for 24 hours with this it's just you in the mall and it's got all the stuff all the stuff in the mall okay it's not like it's empty okay so it's like a regular mall it's closed for 24 hours with a Silverback Gorilla or five black mambas which one would you rather Black Mama's being a snake right yeah five of them iast snake in our garage the other day and it kind of freaked me out so you put a black mama in there to and I was like but oh man Silverback man it get you can see that thing you can hear that thing from a mile away yeah you can you're just sitting there you walk past one corner and B you're You're gone you're dead for I would get in a uh in an elevator just lock myself in there they can they'll freaking Slither the way in through somehow through the ceiling somehow you think so I don't know I mean cuz think about it think about the food and stuff still be there so maybe the gorilla might try to eat some of that food and and I don't know because you can't sleep you're going to be toast I wonder if you could I would try to get a lock and try to lock those door lock those screen things but the thing is a is are those door are those open or they closed like they're they're open but I would I would try to I would try to do something but that's not part of the question but yeah I'd probably go probably done where would you hide in the mall where would you go where would you hide well yeah I mean I'd probably go a store in the back or something but I mean mom can never find us whenever we hit in the middle of those little racks in the store so that's always a good Upcoming Episodes: NFL wait I know we're gonna have Garrett tell them what kind of some upcoming stuff that's coming up uh quarterback ranking oh well hopefully yeah no yeah quarterback ranking for you and me at least yeah quarterback ranking before the NFL season specifically NFL quarterbacks but uh do it once a year kind of our big you know heading into the NFL season it's a pretty long episode I think last year was almost two hours but that gun when you knock that two two podcast I know now we'll just do one but also next week we're gonna start doing some comments replying to comments yes getting into those we got quite a few of them we've gotten some for our takes on you know mou or we got some we got some good information not information but just thoughts on the rivalry games as well on Who U could be a good one for we're just in the country in general so kind of taking that on next week as well but you guys got any comments questions um you know if you if you think we're disrespecting your school like you know again let us know you know the season will show itself that missou is overrated and LSU we're not that worried about LSU so anyways I don't know I'm a little worried I wouldn't be worried as worried if was early in the season I'm worried because it's there and it's later yeah but at that point they'll be like probably you know I don't know forget what week it is probably like six and three or something hopefully they got like three or four losses and it yeah they're just like whatever hopefully we'll see I don't I don't know yeah we'll have that we'll have like changes more against an undefeated LSU than like a six and3 LSU just because we'll sit there and crap the bed sure but yeah we'll have uh you know Ganon Kell have some call on some as well we'll we'll do some predictions uh on the upcoming season we'll do NFL predictions who we see winning the whole thing uh I think I was oh that's right I was right last year so I was exactly right I said Kansas City would beat San Francisco in the Super Bowl so I will hold my comments for a few more weeks but we'd like to remind everybody that iron Shar iron please stay safe be Savage and not average and remember to
