Eagles Trade Rumors: Philadelphia LOOKING For A WR After Johnny Wilson Injury? Training Camp News

birds holding a team practice today going to pass along my biggest takeaways and news items we're also going to hit some Eagles injury news on Right Guard McKai beckon and Landon Dickerson as the Eagles have some questions along that offensive line as far as injuries and depth go and also on the injury front given injuries at the wide receiver Position will hoe Roseman make a trade a lot of Buzz swirling that the Eagles general manager is scouring the market and could pull the trigger to bring in a new wide out to the birds first I have a Subscriber Challenge challenge for the bird gang coverage some Eagle scrimmage Vic Fangio takeaways let's start there the defense under defensive coordinator Vic fangio winning the day and over the last two practices Vic fangio's unit they've played well and they have stalled this Eagles offense and there's been an interesting development for Philadelphia during training camp and we've seen this play out in game action against Baltimore and against New England historically as a defensive mind and defensive coordinator Vic fangio doesn't Blitz a lot he didn't do that last year with Miami as a head coach with Denver he had good pass rushers with Chicago but he didn't have to dial up a lot of blitzes as far as the percentages go and with the San Francisco 49ers he wasn't known as a blitz happy Blitz heavy defensive coordinator he has been doing that with the Eagles though he was asked about that today from the Press core and he said look yesterday it's something that we wanted to install we will see if the Eagles Blitz a lot during the season but a couple of takeaways that I have from what we've seen in the public sphere during the first two preseason games he's blitzing safeties he's blitzing corners on Corner blitzes he's dropping back Edge rushers and coverage but also blitzing them a lot of twists and stunts up front linebackers have been shooting the gaps a lot on Blitz is getting very very aggressive I'm kind of excited about this development as Vic fangio changing his defensive philosophy looking at what Steve spagnolo has done with the Kansas City Chiefs he will dial up pressures at times they risking doing that is that your back end gets burnt but timely blitzes and getting creative with those Blitz calls can certainly throw off some offenses and the Eagles offense last year after they started 10- one faltered down the stretch what was a consistent theme under Nick serani and Brian Johnson they struggled against the blitzes no hot routes no safety BS no checks and the Eagles offense the last two practices has struggled against the Vic fangio Blitz heavy scheme I thought Jeff mlan asked a very good question to Vic fangio and said prior to this practice plan did you talk with Nick serani and Kellen Moore and did you explain or did they explain that last year they struggled with the blitzes so throw us some Blitz looks to see how he respond Vic fangio said no but Kell Moore came up to him after the practice and said I'm glad that you caught a lot of blitzes because it forced us into having to make decisions and have to deal with some of those Blitz calls on the fly so this is something that's benefiting I think both sides to the ball for Philadelphia here in the leadup to week one sticking with the offense they had some unforced erors today uncharacteristically sloppy up to this point they haven't really been all that sloppy under Kell Moore last year they certainly were and that brings me to this point I think Nick serani has to play as offensive starters in week three of the preseason you have to get ready for the Green Bay Packers at some point because they're going to throw you a bunch of looks and you can't replicate game speed more on that in a moment Jaylen Herz solid practice here today he did struggle on Saturday but he has not thrown an interception now in 14 training camp practices that is 273 passes in total to the defensive side of the ball we could be seeing a shift for the starting off ball linebacker alongside Devin white and ideally this would be the case because of where Philadelphia drafted him and it's always it's good to see your draes develop improve and progress noobe Dean has really been flashing of late he's put together a strong last couple of weeks he's had some really good plays in coverage good plays against the Run we've seen Vic fangio get aggressive with calling some Blitz calls for him and noobe Dean had a good joint practice session on top of that against New England then played very well against New England I like Dean's mentality he said quote I'm not back I'm better and if the Eagles can get the noobe dean who was arguably the best offb linebacker at Georgia when he was in college here in year three for their defense it just makes this unit a lot better and I get intrigued by Devin white niobe Dean onew punch as the off ball linebackers here for the Eagles Josh schwat having his best practice we haven't seen him throughout the preseason yet he had three sacks today now Lane Johnson did not practice because of a veterans rest day and joshu having those sacks up against Fred Johnson a backup offensive tackle but a good sign for sweaty as he's racking up some sacks some Eagles injury news McKai beckton get did get hurt he went into the locker room at the NovaCare complex in South Philadelphia Brett Toth had to fill in at Right Guard since Tyler Steen is out as he reinjured his ankle against New England his stock is certainly down Jeff mlan reporting at about 5:00 p.m. Eastern time on this Sunday August 18th that Makai becton's injury not believed to be serious Landon Dickerson also left the practice field but he seems to be okay as well today's Poll Question poll question stuff Nick serani needs to play as offensive starters in the preseason finale against the Minnesota Vikings it's become clear over the last couple of practices that the Eagles offense in particular really need some live game reps the Eagles did face the New England Patriots in a joint practice and they perform very well that's the only time though throughout the entire duration of training camp that Philadelphia has faced another opponent but it was in a practice it was not in live game action and I don't think that you can replicate game speed physicality intensity game Flow as well as those in-game reps and you think about the overview for this Eagles offense they have new pieces along the offensive line moving Parts there because of injuries wide receiver three is still a huge question and uncertain going into week one saquin Barkley is new playing behind a new offensive line with a new quarterback a new complimentary weapons and he is a dynamic piece that you want to find a way to implement and get your feet wet prior to some of that execution against the Packers in Brazil and the Eagles have a new offensive system under a new offensive coordinator in Kell Moore so I think that the eagles need to shake off that rust before the Packers game they've struggled at times against this Vic fangio defense throughout the summer remember what happened week one against New England late in the game when Jaylen Herz had that fumble he admitted later that he wasn't used to getting hit because Nick serani was very conservative with playing his offensive starters in the pre-season last year coming off that Super Bowl it all adds up though the Eagles have had longer practice they've had more physical practices now it's time for this offense to get on the field to get some live game reps look at how Andy Reid handles the preseason for the Kansas City Chiefs they have won back-to-back Super Bowls and Andy Reid in Kansas City's first two preseason games he has played his starters for an extended period of time including Patrick Mahomes and with Kansas City Andy re gets them ready for the biggest moments of the season the Kansas City Chiefs because they start that grind and they have that physicality during these training camp practices and they get those live game reps during the preseason they are mentally tough at the end of the year in December January and Philadelphia banged up at that position and wide receiver three continues to be a big question mark for Nick serani hoe Roseman and Jeffy lures Eagles you take a gander at the Eagles wide receiver depth chart right now the top two one of the best if not the best wide receiver tandems in the National Football League AJ Brown is this era's Julio Jones from a physicality and production standpoint when you watch him he is special with his physicality Breakaway speed ability to break tackles make plays downfield and he has a complete route tree that little turnaround on that in Breaking route in which he Jukes out the defender a staple to his game then you have Devonte Smith not the physical specimen that AJ Brown is but a clean route Runner with really nice footwork has a lot to his route Tre he is just a force across the middle a of the field but he plays bigger than his size and he can make catches downfield vertically and along the sideline but then after that you have some big question marks Paris Campbell's been hurt this year in training camp and throughout his entire career and while he's a 4-3 guy why is he a career sub 10 yards per catch player Johnny Wilson is 66 but he's dealing with the concussion John Ross 4-2 speed maybe not now that he's older and has dealt with so many injuries maybe he's a 4-3 44 guy but I haven't seen him separate all that much and while he's had moments in training camp and in that preseason game against New England before he got hurt as a returner and as a receiver he too has always been injured throughout his NFL career he is not durable he's a smaller player I like Britain CV's opportunities to maybe get some more wide receiver reps but is he going to be your every down slot wide receiver when he's a little bit small limited and doesn't have a vertical Dimension to his game he's more of that traditional slot who operates within 10 yards of the line of scrimmage and is a safety valve player Joseph Vata really good in the preseason against New England led the Eagles in catches yards yards per catch he's a bigger Target but not all that fast he does create Windows because he can come down with those 5050 balls but I think he's more of an outside wide receiver xtype as compared to a slot and an i Smith yeah no Eagles have those injuries at wide receiver rosson Wilson concussion Paris Campbell limited participant missed a lot of practices he was back in practice on Sunday dealing with the groin and CBS Sports making a valid point an interesting point that Philadelphia is a fit for Robert Woods he has not had a 10,000 yard season in a couple of years but could be on the outside looking in on that Texans wide receiver dep chart because they're stacked at that position they traded for Stefan Diggs they resign Nico Collins tank Dell is a stud they have Noah brown john mie so Robert Woods an older player but out of the slot could be a decent option for Philadelphia so too could Adam th him Other WR trade targets with the Carolina Panthers last year surprisingly after a couple of down years with the Minnesota Vikings in a bad offense in Carolina he was one of the lone bright spots for quarterback brace young who really struggled behind a bad offensive line had no Run game and limited Weaponry outside of Adam th but D 103 catches more than a thousand yards four touchdowns along at 32 him operating out of the slot would be a great compliment to AJ Brown Devonte Smith and that would make your wide receiver room very very deep very very talented give Jaylen Herz yet another weapon and create a lot of open offensive looks and my point in the Eagles needing to address wide receiver 3 if AJ Brown Devonte Smith were to get hurt this room goes from being one of the best in the NFL to having a lot of questions and becoming murky so let's take a look at some more Eagles wide receiver trade targets here who how Roseman could be looking at right now and there is Buzz that Howe Roseman could pull the trigger Adam thel as I mentioned John meie Robert Woods Noah Brown three Texans right there trayon Burks of the Titans couple of Niners players not named Brandon iuk Danny gray Ronnie Bell San Francisco very deep at wide receiver if they only hold on to six I'm not sure there's a spot on the roster for gray or Bell but intriguing young options Danny gray a 4-3 guy one catch and two years Ronnie Bell really good at picking up yards after the catch more of a physical slot wide receiver Omari Cooper I deem that unlikely but the Browns did not give him a long-term contract extension that he was seeking and after the reports came out that the ners were going to trade auk for him but auk turned it down Mari Cooper took the Instagram and said wouldn't have minded that David Bell also of the Browns intriguing ability out of the slot to pick up yards after the catch although he's a little bit slow can Bourne of the New England Patriots has been involved in some wide receiver trade rumors this off season the same can be said for courland Sutton of the Denver Broncos Darius Slayton of the New York Giants and if Hoy Roseman just wanted to put his nuts on the table and make a big splash he could trade for T Higgins a superstar wide receiver of the Cincinnati Bengals who's looking for a long-term deal T Higgins Devonte Smith AJ Brown my goodness that would cause nightmares for defensive coordinators across the national Football League again unlikely but a wide receiver who's been involved in some trade talks which wide receiver trade Target is your top Target for howy
