favorite uh no and they still got to beat the 49ers they really do and again to me though this is a team that's knocking on the door their Nemesis has been San Francisco once they get over that Hill if they get over that hill in this you know at any point in time they are going to be in the Super Bowl but right now you know my pick still is San Francisco yeah yeah I mean they're close they had San Francisco on the ropes they should have won that game a couple decisions swung things the other way and then the Niners just got rolling Brock py with his usual late game uh heroics going to help pull that game out but they're right there I mean but Green Bay is on the come up right Philadelphia is as loaded as any team in the NFL I think Tampa Bay and Atlanta need to be taken into consideration and the Rams you know and again I mentioned Seattle so it's not going to be easy for them but the fact that they can do so well on offense and Coach what they did along their defensive front is going to help they go out and they get DJ reer defensive tackle from the Bengals he's coming off a quad injury so it may be a while before he gets in and they add Marcus Davenport if they can get those guys on the field for 12 13 games and that defensive front keeps those linebackers clean they got some young DBS to add to that secondary we know Brian branch is good they got and they draft terryon Arnold and they've got Andis rraw the second round pick out of Missouri they finally have addressed some defensive weaknesses with some young players and they're very excited about it but I think the fact back at that defensive front to give some relief to Aiden Hutchinson yes is a big step for what they can do yeah I I would say the same thing like finding of Marquee pass rusher opposite Aiden Hutchinson was was a big thing if Marcus Davenport can show us what he did you know that the one season in New Orleans the double digit sacks I mean he could prove that he can get it done so and they can rotate James Houston in too he was out last year last year with injur he's a good pass rushan that's right uh okay so let's talk Lions then biggest key to success in your mind this SE I still think it's Jared G I really do because everything begins with him it really does this is a young man that because of the way he's played the game especially last season he's taken the the Reigns and he's gotten everybody behind him so he's got to continue to play well start fast early in this season get the momentum going and you can win big big games down the road I really think that this guy is the key to their success we just talk about defensively and that is again the defensive interior keeping those linebackers clean stopping the rush and get some pressure on the passer because those Edge Rush are going to have opportunities they're going to be playing with leads yeah right so if Aiden Hudson can get some help we talked about Marcus dor we talked about James Houston if they can get some guys who can win one-on-one and not have to manufacture pressures that is really to me going to be their ability to close teams out and that has been the issue the past years they've been building this Behemoth of a roster yeah I thought it was a terrific draft class last year as coach we we talking about they've done well in the draft recently but you know guys who were rookies last year taking making a jump in year two jir Gibbs get even wor Brian Branch how about Jack Campbell the linebacker spot right stepping up uh there to continue to to kind of push that progress forward uh for the Detroit Lines I think will be really important as well then what do they get out of Jameson Williams right so he is a player when I was up at their training camp they are super excited about they said his growth last year he be friended Teddy Bridgewater who's now coach in high school but out of Miami helped him grow up as a man and he has had a fantastic training well I love that love to hear that and and can't wait to see uh that deep ball for Jame year for the Detroit Lions and it's going to be a lot of fun to watch that team this year we are taking you right up the angry runs list I would imagine coach Dan Campbell is trying to work a little bit of that out of henden hooker's game today what's what's the plan there well Rett we know that henden hooker will start today his first NFL start of any kind remember last year his rookie season essentially was a red shirt year as he was working back from a knee injury and then that Giants game the clip that you just saw he suffered a concussion in that game they didn't feel he was ready to start against the Chiefs in the second preseason game so today is his day he'll get the start Dan Campbell's excited to get a really good look at him as he looks to beat out Nate sudfeld with a backup quarterback spot but look he's a guy that I'm told guys gravitate towards because of his Mobility the way he takes off with his legs something we don't typically see from Jared gof and he's a player that when he explodes keep an eye on the sideline I'm told that the sidelines go crazy they love watching this guy take off with his legs he did it against the Chiefs he scrambled for nine plays 45 yards in a touchdown so Dan Campbell says look he's a Young quarterback a developing quarterback he needs all the ref can get that's why today is so important for henden hooker as we inch closer to the regular season where we of course will see Jered gof under Center for this team yeah Bridget thank you very much I mean all that excitement that you're talking about a surrounding henden hooker comes from the fact that he was so dang good at Tennessee look at that touchdown interception ratio 27-2 before suffering the injury that caused him probably to slip into the Li's hands down in the third round he was fantastic in that 2022 Collegiate season and now that you see the numbers uh I mean let's remind everyone just what hinden hooker looked like at the very top of his game here I mean he he was so good in that Josh hypo offense they spread it out quite a bit look how far those receivers are using every inch every blade of grass on that field and henden hooker could take advantage of it with those deep throws and it wasn't just the fact that he could get it down the field he does it with such great accuracy the ball placement there to allow hayatt to make plays with the ball after the catch and then the decision making great discernment uh in that offense which gave him a lot of options and you love the athleticism to be able to get out of the pocket Escape some of that pressure get out of trouble when he has to but that's probably those design runs probably where Dan Campbell would like to limit his action after the the concussion in week one uh but coach I know you watched a lot of that tape right evaluating henden coming into that draft what were your thoughts on it you know this is a young man I think that really can add some diversity to your offense though because of his ability AB ility to run you know he's got a very good arm he makes good decisions he reads through his progressions and he can find the guys and get the ball to them downfield and when he does move one of the key things that he has to understand to do and that is really I'm trying to buy time for my receivers to get open so I don't want to take off immediately I want to go ahead and extend the play and then get the ball downfield those are some of [Music] [Music] V on my friend First Blood
