Are 10 year contracts worth it? Francisco Lindor debate - The Michael Kay Show TMKS September 3 2024

Jared and Woodbridge hi Jared hey how's go Michael D Peter can you guys hear me oh sure cool sounds good I'm big fan to you guys but Michael I I did want to bring up something that I heard you say on the show maybe earlier in the summer that um the Lindor signings seem to be just a really bad allocation of resources and they could have used that money to sign a guy like kareah who is on the iil again I didn't say that are you I did not I never said that never never Korea would have cost the same amount of money I never said that so thank you for your phone call you're starting off on a false narrative you don't get to go any further I said that they will be they will regret committing $341 million over 10 years to Lindor Lindor is going to finish second or third in the MVP voting he just is I think he's having a great year the reason that they're not in a playoff spot right now is because he had a completely awful April awful awful and as great as Cory Seager is and won an MVP won an MVP in the world series for the Tex Rangers they will regret that 10-year $325 million contract as well they just will you're giving it to a short stop where are they playing after short stop you're going to move Lindor to first base you're going to move them to DH those contracts will be terrible contract at the end he's terrific right now I love watching him play but you've been with me Don did I ever say you could allocate that to Carlos kareah no listen you said what most people said that they overpaid for now this year you're not worried about it you're not thinking about it CU I think he's going to finish second in MVP and there's a lot of people that may vote for him because they might want to punish Otani for being a DH but Otani is going to win the MVP but the Mets are not a half game out of a playoff spot without Francisco Lindor he's become a leader he's an A+ Defender now he may not be worth the money Michael but right now no no Met fans complaining about it because he has been tremendous should have been an allar he's going to finish as I said second in the MVP and he's got 24 more games to even add to what has been a tremendous statistical season for him so yeah it's probably not going to age well but right now the the the narrative is is only positive no he's terrific he's absolutely terrific he's a joy to watch but have that guy call me back in seven years if I'm still alive and tell me if that contract looks good then they were bidding against themselves for what 341 he wasn't even a free agent they gave him 341 for 10 years and he wasn't a free agent then you got Cory Seager for the Rangers 10 years 325 and he was a free agent and they're already talking I'm here in Texas right now they're already talking gee I wonder if we can make Josh Smith the short stop and move Cory Seager to first base already so those contracts always go wrong you can't give position players at that age 10year deals at that position you can't I mean you know you don't think the Yankees sit up and pray every day that year eight and N for Aaron judge is going to be worthwhile for them but you got to give those contracts out especially if they're free agents but Lindor wasn't a free agent and the year that he had done the first year he had that led him into his free agency he would have never gotten 341 for 10 ever that was tough but again every Met fan is glad to have him right now and we'll see how it ends up working but I think he has definitely changed The Narrative of that contract by the kind of season that he's having and the kind of leader that he's become and if they can find a way into the playoffs and he's successful there Michael I think it'll age better because of this season and at least if they win a World Series with him and he's a big part of it worth it just like the A-Rod contract was worth it just like the Seager contract will be worth it for the Rangers and also for that young man that called if you're going to call with a got me phone call you better get me don't come with false stuff I'm not in the mood for it anymore you're you're you're I think I think I he probably gave a bad example with the karea stuff but I guess he was just calling to say you didn't like the contract and maybe now you think differently because of the a bad example a false example I never said it okay oh you're you're you're against me I'm on your side Michael because you never said anything about kareah but I guess he was just calling to say you didn't like the contract now do you like it because of the Season he's having and the answer is no if you're going to get me get me all right I wasn't not supporting I I feel it and by the way I made I made breakfast plans with Joey so you could all pipe down 10:00 a.m. so if I'm really dragging on the show tomorrow blame Joey and blame yourselves it's because you had a 10:00 a.m. breakfast I can't even get out of bed these days well maybe if you had breakfast you'd get out of bed that's a great Point by Don I still have to get out of bed to get to breakfast do you but do you think that maybe you would feel better if you had a breakfast I've never had breakfast in my life and you've never felt good by the way a great point you you've literally been miserable basically your entire life miserable but not physically bad I just want you to tell us the truth if tomorrow you feel great you better tell us Belgium waffle something I'm not I'm not first of do I eat do I eat carbs so what what do you get what I'm going to order Bagel I'm going to have cere it's all carbs because breakfast is carbs they should call it carb don't even call it breakfast well hold on you're out of control if if you have fruit for breakfast it's all carb we need someone to inject something into a serum but Michael that's because you eat the you don't eat the number one non-carb food the healthiest breakfast for anyone who likes to diet the way you do it's meant for breakfast eggs and
