later in the week that is on Friday show okay we get it going with Tip of the cap one of my favorite things that I have seen all year it is a tip of the cap Tampa and San Diego they played over a long weekend Junior Camero actually got a chance to meet his Idol in Manny Machado they took a picture when cero was just a kid they exchanged jerseys signatures pictures photo ops and then the rookie for the Rays explained the emotional moment hope it's a it's a dream what are the emotions at surface right now when you think about that Junior that all the dreams can't come true all right for people joining us Audio Only the first five or six seconds of that he's literally crying like he is so taken back we're also showing the picture of uh Machado hanging out with junior junior cero if you will when he was just a little pup on an international team dude I mean that is just that give you all the feels it does I I I kind of wish wish I had a guy like that that I really really looked up to growing up uh and then was able to play against him I this is an alltime moment um I I I guess I can't necessarily relate to him that much my idol was my brother growing up we never got to play against each other in the big leagues and you know I got to hang out with them all the time but this is really cool man um especially you know he's from the Dominican Republic Machado obviously born in the States but representing the Dominican Republic in the WBC that's his background um it's special man it's special to be able I think it's a couple things uh when you meet somebody on the field like that you know you're proud of yourself for getting to that level a guy that you idolize like oh my gosh like I'm here playing against these guys how cool is that and then it's also special that you know the guy that you looked up to kind of has lived up to who you thought he was being able to meet discuss exchange jerseys like that with Machado obviously it's a very very cool moment and not only for cam but for Machado as well I think he's getting to that stage now where he's like all right I'm I've had an influence on people and I think by and large you talk to baseball players Manny Machado has a very very good reputation in the game for some reason uh you know he gets kind of like hated on by fans whether it was maybe it's just like the LA and me and people like didn't like his tenure on the Dodgers I don't know what it is but I feel like with the fans he gets kind of unfairly judged uh W within the player Circle he's he's the ogs really in the game yeah I think that's fair I think that's fair we could probably do an entire show on Manny Machado because there's been so many different parts of his career but uh yeah I would agree with you guys I've talked to always said not a bad dude like gets painted that way sometimes it's not even close uh that was a special moment good job by Trisha Whitaker uh rays and also you know does work for Apple TV as well really nice job that interview I thought it was a really cool story as for machado's Padres feeling pretty pretty good they Is it about to be 2022 all over again for the Padres? got F Fernando tatis back for the first time since June went over but was out there running to right field taking his rightful place at Petco Park I love that moment it was very Sammy Sosa is if you will back flag at Wrigley Field where he's running out and doing the whole thing with the right field crowd so now Musgrove he pitched great again yesterday UD darish is expected back tomorrow as well does this feel like it's piecing together to be the 20 22 Padres all over again I don't think Padres fans want that I think they want more than 2022 so uh I I will say this I if the Padres were to go this postseason and just run it and win the World Series I would not be surprised whatsoever I mean they have all the high-end talent in in the game I and they have the guys to do it you look up and down that lineup you know the guys that are there especially with tatis backck the way they've been scoring runs the way they their offense is they they kind of do it in a bunch of different ways Chris I love they they bunt a lot they move Runners they hit homers they kind of like they're a complete offense you mentioned the starting pitching they have coming back Dylan CE Michael King Joe Musgrove you darish that's a pretty formidable rotation I me our team Perez has even look good for them uh in in his time there so they have the horses there to do it and then the bullpen is I saw firsthand that Bullpen up against my twins they have real deal bullpen P depth High highend guys so the formula is there for them to win the World Series like I I don't think 2022 is is good enough for Padre's fans I think it I think it's shaping have to be better than than 2022 at least the roster is will the result be there I'm not really sure I I just think this is the most complete team we've seen in in quite some time in San Diego yeah so I think what I mean by that is that they could kind of come out of the weeds a little bit right when we do get to the playoffs everybody's going to look at the Phillies and the Dodgers and depending on how the Diamondbacks are playing based on what they did last year people might pick a little bit on them we'll see if the Braves are able to hang on to a wild card spot and with certainly with you know some of the names in that lineup even without aunia and Spencer Strider uh Etc they still have enough guys that have done it at such a high level come October that people are probably going to pick them so I think that's what I when I asked the question that's what I was kind of thinking to their credit they have gotten this far basically without um much help on the uh you know pitching front in terms of consistency it's been CE and it's been King darish we're about to see him pitch for the first time since May Musgrove has been a totally different man since he returned five starts ago a sub one5 ER and you mentioned that Martin Perez has been great the changes they made in the bullpen so yes I think when you put it all together you do finally feel like all right this is the 2022 team that kind of squeaked into the playoffs and then took off it's not the SoDo trade that they made but it's all these ancillary moves that they made where you're like okay put it all together there are still a few guys that have to step up I mean I think machado's got to take it to a different level I think Cronin Worth's gotta get going really good Chris machado's been really really good I know but I'm just talking about really like kicking out if you look at his overall numbers I know that at the beginning of the year was horrible all right who cares what he did in April and May or whatever like he has been he's been great and if he just continues what he's been doing that's all that they need I mean I agree with I mean up and down that lineup there are guys that can beat you on On Any Given night and I think when you have enough of those guys you don't have to have everybody with great overall numbers it's just can it can it line up for them I guess that's the whole point in the postseason can everything kind of line up for you uh if the Padre's are going to get it done Dodgers did some serious damage to the D-Backs it'll most likely be as a wild card uh because it doesn't feel like anybody out west is going to catch the Dodgers who of course did some serious damage to Arizona's pitching and its ego over the weekend Zone tries again and Freeman hits the ball a ton to right center field on the 11 pitch he goes yard sure did Freddy Freeman a couple of bombs on Monday four in the series La ends up taking three of four um first of all come out and say I don't know if I'm gonna say I was wrong because I think we asked the question maybe on Friday's show about who's who's better primed for a playoff run and that's still a month away so things could change but this weekend the Dodgers came out and they they laid the smackdown on them right what what most impressed you about the performance I think overall it's and in Arizona people like I feel like don't know this or I mean if you're a diamondx fan you know this but everybody else probably doesn't this is a like the top offense in baseball the way they score runs runs per game Ops like go up and down the statistics they are up at the top in most of them uh the Dodgers came and overwhelmed them offensively they really did uh I believe it was 10 crooked numbers in the four game series and that was on Sunday they took out what mookie bets Freddy Freeman T Oscar after the third inning uh so that could have been 11 or 12 crooked numbers to me that's the separator for teams if you can lay on those crooked numbers and that's you know two runs or more uh that's what wins you baseball games that's what gets you the momentum in these games so I think that's kind of what impressed me that they were able to overwhelm the best offense in baseball uh and the other thing I think on a personal level it was the play of Freddy Freeman and you know he he just against the Orioles Dave Roberts called him and said said you need to take some time mental break plus he's nursing a he's nursing a broken finger and you know he had been kind of rushed back with that slumped a little bit and I think it was really smart of Dave Robert said take some time like we we I don't know if he said specifically we need you for the diamond Bag series but it was smart of him to do that go be with your family we know what they've been dealing with heal up your finger so it doesn't have as much pain and then for him to come back and he had a great series I believe he drove in over 10 runs in the series uh so I think the overwhelming offense that they showed up with and then Freddy Freeman on a personal level that's it's probably the biggest series they've had all year um especially the timing of it and separating themselves in the division and he showed out so I I'll go with those two things yeah I mean La is now five up on the Padre's six up on Arizona um so I think they certainly put the Diamondbacks to bed and and the Padre's are pretty close to it and yeah I want to continue on with the Freddy Freeman point because I think that when a guy is as consistent as Freddy Freeman and I mean he is he feels like Captain consistency I don't know if if that's a good enough nickname for him or whatever it is but he's so not spectacular in the way he plays but he's freaking amazing do you know that he is in line for his worst offensive season since 2015 so in almost a decade he's hitting 288 with I don't even know his what's his number 288 8880 Ops this is that's his worst this is going to be his worst some guys have it all bro I can't seriously like I don't think people appreciate how damn good he is because he makes it look so effortless right I mean I've never seen a guy I can't remember a guy other than Miguel Cabrera driving the ball to the alleys it seems like such ease that's the consistency part if that is your approach big part of the field you know middle of the field opposite way a little bit that's going to keep your swing path consistent that's going to keep you on stuff it's you're right man that's crazy I did not know I knew his numbers were pretty good this year yeah but that's his worse since 15 yeah because people feel like oh man you know Freddy I think it's probably part of the being in the shadow of shi this year who by the way is up to 46 steals like at what point do we start didn't get 6060 no he's not going to get 60 stop dude if he gets to 50/50 I I worry about the Home Run he's going to get 5050 a thousand he's what six homers away and four stolen bases or something hey you know how homers go they can disappear in a hurry particular when you're trying to hit homers he's not trying and he's batting lead off he's gonna get a bunch of a bats this guy's dude he's not taking days off he didn't come out of the game on Sunday cuz he's like no bro I'm going to hit Homer although he did get called out on a third strike the other day which was hor horrible yeah he's gonna get there Chris 5050 to me is not enough he's gon I I in my op I think he I think he can max out at 55 55 I think he can get there dude that's 11 more that's 11 homers in three and a half weeks what he hav't he had 16 in in August dude he's a nut all right anyway yeah don't let's not let's not put limitations on the best player that's ever lived okay I won't I won't most talented player that ever lived because you're going to get a ton of [ __ ] for the other state I don't care all right we want to thank SE geek so much for your next order got it good all right we will stay in the national Maybe the NL Rookie of the Year is neither Skenes or Merrill? league Milwaukee running away with its division crushed St Louis on Labor Day Monday Willie Adamas has now hit a Homer in five straight but you know what he ended up taking a back seat to a rookie who's not even 21 to left field Jackson Chio Grand SL he called it he called it before everything happened is that right yeah I think it was nobody on yet and he say I got to get ready cuz I'm about to hit a grand slime right now and he made it happen it was incredible that's why he was pointed to me and Frankie cuz we were talking about it and he was like I'm going to hit it and he didn't I was like oh my God that's Willie Adamas explaining the conversation Jackson chrio was having with his teammates in The Dugout uh you know we haven't talked a ton about Jackson sherio ever since he got that contract extension before becoming a major leager are we so sure that this isn't the Jackson that should win national league rookie of the year I was ready to come on here and tell you Chris I've already cemented the Jackson Merill is the guy the numbers are there he's played every single day for a winning team and got all these late homers I think he still does have that on Jackson trial the the the goahead homers the game time go-ahead homers Jackson Mill has done that it's been great but the overall numbers are like neck and neck I'm not saying this is what you should do this is not betting advice but if you wanted to sprinkle a little bit on Jackson Trio right now at plus 2500 to win the NL rookie of the year I think it might be a smart bet because he could continue to go off and by the end of the year his numbers I mean since June 1st this guy started out really bad of course like who wouldn't you're 20 years old uh April and May not good for him he had a 581 Ops through those first two months then June 1st through uh September 2nd 911 Ops 318 371 540 this guy's been going off if he has a big month Chris if he has a big month and we see Jackson Merill struggle which I'm not saying it's gonna happen I don't see that happening because he's obviously a stud too that this could flip for me it really could I don't think Paul skes should be in the discussion anymore I'm just I'm not on that train I every players to me are going to get to nod every single time especially if they've been up all year long um but it's a lot closer than I thought it really really is I'm I'm super I I talked to yelli in the offseason I went and watched him hit one day and he mentioned Trio and he goes man the way they talk about this kid is different and through the first two months we're all like all right dude he's just a young kid you know he it's he's not ready and then they stuck with him and dang uh it's been awesome to see so I'm not so sure I I think I still lean Jackson Merill right now and if they both had similar septembers I would say Jackson Merill is my guy but I think there's some wiggle room I think there's a there's a chance here for our guy chrio so our buddy uh Jeff pan from ESPN put out a tweet yesterday after the Grand Slam that said uh God I I didn't copy and paste over when this was since so it's been several months but he's putting up these type numbers 319 which is top seven in baseball and on base percentage of over 370 slugging over 540 and Ops of 9915 which is top 12 in baseball in this span 13 homers 13 steals uh his K rate is down under 16% which for a kid who was a lot of Chase early on has really done an exceptional job with all that being said if I had a vote today it would be Jackson Merill but it wouldn't be by much and I just think the question of the Jackson Jackson Jackson who you going to take for your career is something fantastic now what I hate when people do this in a discussion they want to drag somebody else down in order to build their candidate up that happens in sports discussions it happens in the political Arena and it drives me freaking nuts when I'm just talking I'm just talking about sports here why can't we appreciate what the hell these kids have done Merill started the year as a 20-year-old he didn't turn 21 until a few weeks into the season Jackson chrio is not even 21 don't tear those kids down well this kid hasn't done that let's be appreciative of the fact that we have three guys all named Jackson who all started their big league careers at age 20 could you imagine starting at age 20 and then all of a sudden excelling and being a huge part of a playoff Contender because that is what's happening with three Jacksons now can I imagine that no no Chris yeah but I think I was in more than everybody else yeah you were double I very much appreciate what these guys are doing I think it is a new era I will say that for young kids it's a better era for young guys to come up and Thrive and I'm not talking about um the the play the play I think has gotten better I think the pitching has gotten better I think you know it's it's more difficult to hit now maybe more more than ever I really do believe that and the way that bullpens are are utilized and you know the pitch design all those things you've heard me talk about that before uh but I do believe the environment that guys come up in now is more conducive to success than prior Generations when rookies were just told to shut up and don't even look at veterans basically now it's welcoming I even mentioned that to Rocco you know they got a bunch of rookie pitchers with the twins right now and these guys are coming up and just feeling like they're really part of the team that that like rarely was the case ever this environment fostering younger better talent I think all right well let's move on a guy who lik chrio and Merill made his major league debut at How will Giancarlo Stanton's career be described? age 20 he continues to power through into his mid-30s and the pregame that's a deep Fly ball center field and that ball is gone a long home run off the bat of Stanton Jean Carlos Stanton now the only active player with at least 25 home s in 10 plus Seasons he also has the most homers of any active player overall how do you think most people would describe Jean Carlos Stanton's career at this point I feel like we've done questions like this before and I I don't really understand the discussion around him the facts are he's one of the most prolific power hitters of Our Generation that's those are the facts 427 homers right right now leads all of the all active players um you just mentioned the stat 20 10 years of 25 homers the longevity is there the power is there the guy won a freaking MVP award people like that's I feel like we need to have some respect for what John Carlos Stanton's been able to do in the big leagues it's his 15th year in the show that alone uh Warren some respect you know pat on the back at the very least but to be able to be you know the guy that he's been and it's not just homers the base percentage has been there as well even his career Ops Chris is 874 we're talking about a slugger um that can get on base and that's had longevity I think you're just you're talking about a different hitter you know a different hitter a different type of hitter but one of the best hitters we've seen come around in in quite some time I know he's you know he goes through especially as of late prolonged stretches of strikeouts and sometimes the swing don't look very good but who cares man the overall production is what you are looking for it's also been great in the postseason I am I'm a big John Carlos St fan especially he's a valley guy too so I kind of have to have his back but even if I wasn't you know a valley Guy having his back just look at the numbers man they support him okay now let's answer the question how do you think most people see I think you and I are on the same exact wavelength but do you think it could go in this order fair or unfair massive homers massive contract massive injuries do you think that that's like the three true outcome of Jean Carlos Stanton when we're talking about just having a discussion about him but massive contract what are we even talking okay yeah that's that is that like a negative well I think that once you attach a certain dollar sign to somebody if you don't reach those expectations I mean listen the guy has gotten MVP votes one time since he got traded I think he got I think he finished MVP 19 his first year in New York in 2018 other than that he hasn't been close so if you if somebody now it was the Marlins that extended him it wasn't the Yankees that gave him 300 million they traded for him but when you come up to New York with a $300 million contract in your bag you're going ex to be expected to put up some MVP is numbers and they just haven't been there I mean yes you could point to injuries is that could be part of what people think I think now yes because they've happened later in his career early on in his career was you know he was playing a lot and that's part of the game though I mean staying healthy is is especially when you get older becomes you know Troublesome but I would say this I feel like the Yankees aren't very good at keeping people healthy so maybe you have to point some fingers there I mean you could is that not true like we've seen a lot of injuries with the Yankees I feel like I listen to my Compadres talk about the Yankees and they talk about not being able to keep people on the field okay let me run this by you um because I was having the discussion last night with Josh as we were just kind of sitting around I was like who does he compareed to and remember Josh is 23 but he's a huge baseball kind of nut he said what about Jose cono and I was like interesting okay cono 462 homers a 26 6 average 867 Ops Stanton obviously still plenty of time 427 258 873 obviously the huge difference is one's a really good dude and one's a fill in however you would like to on that with Jose cono but as far as like Talent obviously cono ran John Carlo doesn't even have 50 stolen base in his in his career cono had a couple hundred but you like Josh REM reminded me like Jan Carlos Stanton was as was close to being a five tool player and his Prime in Miami yeah I I like that because outfields for some reason my mind went to Paul canero maybe because I thought about like the Homer number um but outfielder to first baseman's a little bit different yeah so I thought so I thought the you know he kind of turned me on to some interesting stuff there thought that was pretty good I do hope people see Stanton in the light that he deserves because I think you and I are on the same wavelength here but there's just going to be some people who say no I mean unless you live up to that contract and at this point that would be helping the Yankees win at all a career 136 Ops plus pretty good pretty good all right we got more show coming your way but first Trevor plof with this word yes today's episode is brought to you by picket that's p k kit T it's a free BET tracker that allows you to see all of your bets in of final Wild Card to do pretty quickly because I think we're going to spend a ton of time on the Mets and the Braves in the upcoming days and weeks uh Mets closed back within a half game of Atlanta for that final Wild Card birth in the National League Louis seina was spectacular against Boston on Monday seven Innings one run allowed how shocked are you that the Mets starting rotation has helped catapult New York back into playoff contention I think that you would be a liar if he didn't say you were pretty dang shocked especially kodai senga going out um although I heard there's some news I read something about like him maybe coming back as a reliever this season okay let's see um but yeah I mean the guys that are doing it too have been you know largely injury plagued or inconsistent David Peterson's a guy that's been crazy good for them but doesn't really have the tracker a career four five coming into the year sha manah shown flash is a Brilliance obviously but he has just absolutely upped his game up to another level and then seevi coming off a injury uh to be able to throw as well as he has and stay healthy and throw the amounts of innings I think it's I think you'd be crazy to say you were oh yeah I knew this was gonna happen no way man and this is the beauty of baseball you know guys can make adjustments and um you know the Mets it's only a half game out of the freaking wild card is awesome man I cannot wait for like the end of September baseball that's about to be played so yes I'm shocked you're shocked too don't even try to act like you're not oh God yeah I'm shocked look I mean you're talking to the guy who pronounced him dead on May 29th so of course I'm shocked I mean if you had told me that we would be into September and kodai senga had thrown less than six Innings all year for the Mets where would New York be I'd be like planning for 2025 CU that's really I thought I just didn't think I mean they had a questionable pitching staff going into the year and then not to get anything out of the guy who was the best pitcher for your organization a season ago it's fantastic you mention all the names manah in particular is a guy because I think we both thought that he was going to be a stud when he first came up like unbelievably great and he just hasn't been he's he's you know had flashes he's had good moments but he has been if you were to describe his career in one word it would be inconsistent and this year he has founded and as of late three of his last four starts he's worked into the seventh inning that's that's baller good for him he's always had the stuff you know and I I remember I think it was not this spring training but last spring training they're like why don't you just try throwing harder and he's like all right okay um but it seems like he has thrown harder the stuff is there and for him it's just like getting ahead of hitters and and throwing strikes essentially and putting guys away and he's he's found he's found the ability to do that this year it's been it's been really fun to watch him yeah all right finally uh the sport of baseball and hot dogs pretty much synonymous you go to a game you're Do not take Joey Chestnut to a baseball game going to down one just a word of warning after my experience yesterday do not take Joey Chestnut to a game you will go bankrupt Chestnut Kobayashi both with personal records but the 16 time champion is going to walk away an apparent winner there's 10 seconds to go as the fans count it down 3 2 [Applause] 1 yep it was the rematch 15 years in the making between two legends two Titans of the competitive eating World Joey Chestnut blasting Kobayashi into retirement Downing 83 hot dogs in 10 minutes my question is how do you even know you're good at something like that like how does it start right it's a great question Joey Chestnut comes from a big family and he said you know you always had to eat fast in order to get your grub and then he realized he had the stomach capacity to do it and he watched kobashi do his thing starting in 2001 at Nathan's Hot Dogs and saw this guy from Japan crush it and he was like I want to give it a shot and he did and he realized it was something he was good at he said he he didn't get looked at for eating a ton like he used to in days before it's something he takes seriously in terms of the preparation that he does like I can't believe these guys were practicing doing full 10-minute runs several times a week over the last you know few months that's the thing that I couldn't believe oh boy I it and you're great obviously I told you like that is right up your alley to host something like that it is great you're the range that Chris Rose brings to the sports world is unparalleled so I appreciate it greatly and I will read you the the text I got from passing yesterday because he didn't know I was doing it and then he saw it was on their social media he goes you have the dumbest career and I love it dumbest to be clear is an enormous compliment you cover all the cool [ __ ] I would pay to see and he's right like I am so thankful obviously Netflix because they're really good people they're trying to get more into live coverage you know there's some people are like well what's happened to your career what do you mean I had a blast yesterday I had freaking blast it was so much fun if you haven't seen it Go spin it up on Netflix it's the stories are remarkable and it wasn't nearly as gross as I thought it was going to be to be honest with you okay uh do they throw afterwards I did no here's the one thing it was it's like the um it's the thing I didn't want to ask them which is okay how do we clean up oh gosh H but they both held it together they had to be on stage another six or seven minutes it wasn't like they ran to the bathroom anyone that tells you what happened to your career just tell them to shut it what you what are they talking about man you're a legend Chris and you get to work
