obviously a guy who makes good contact hits for average but one of the things in today's game the value in the fact that he hits both righties and lefties swings through that one for strike two there so reliant on the matchups nowadays Chris and it's huge when you don't have to sit a guy or platoon him when you can hit you know both sides in terms of pitcher arms you're a guy that it's hard to take out of the lineup and I think it's very important today when everything is under the microscope one down base is empty bounce to the right Aranda tosses the first proar is out now here's Jake cronenworth first number n Jake [Applause] croning left-and hitter Waits and a base hit up the middle so a two out Knock keeps the inning alive he was all over that one timing on the swing was good able to shoot the ball up the middle didn't Square it up as much as he probably would have liked but that's a good approach paying off and now it's Manny Machado the one- one is fouled off the pitch now one miss St [Applause] and the righty deals swing and a miss struck him out and that will end the [Music] inning back here at Tropic of field now it's the DH Christopher Morell trying to pick up heads for second and his first big league hit is a double all over that one right there showed a willingness to drive that pitch the opposite way didn't get jumped didn't try to pull the ball he let it get deep took the barrel right to it and then extended through the swing for the line drive base hit L at the [Applause] plate man it's second swings through that [Applause] one lifted in the air right field Peralta under it he's there he's got it grounder tags it second in there safely maybe caught that one off the end just a little bit couldn't quite Barrel it up enough to really drive it now Junior cero com the two one towards first cronenworth look to the pitcher covering now two away as they get a run across now here's the T of a clean up hitter Josh low two out Bas is empty swing in a miss and the count one two two stra on the line base hit and that keeps the inning alive mat and stepping in for the r Jose cavier kick andit out but no action well with this many pitches thrown here in this first inning I mean you're giving the other team a really good look he's going to have to find a way to get some weak contact maybe a swing and Miss get into that dug out and hit the reset button that just misses and now three and one Chris with that distraction and a speedy guy at first he's in a favorable hitters count well if nothing else I mean this is a great spot for a hitter to be in that's a hit throw in holds the lead runner at second two on now with two away well they call that an advantage count for a reason you're so much more likely to get something you can handle fast pretty much middle middle and that's what you fall asleep dreaming about as a hitter so no surprise he put a great swing on [Applause] it hit hard should be extra bases headed for the plate one run is in relay throw home he'll score two runs are in and they're up by three picks himself up a couple of ribbies turned on that inside pitch nicely and ripped it down the line to pick up two bases that can be a tough pitch to keep fair but his timing was great and now here is Johnny [Applause] Duca just off the Inside Edge a good take on the ground to third gets it to First that ends the inning and stops things from getting out of [Music] hand back now in Tampa Bay here's the veteran second base Xander Bogart oh after scor runs this is where you're looking for that shut down inning get that hot team back in there to swing the bats the pitch that one misses and the count is three and one first pitch strike from the pitcher but then no Panic at all by The Hitter very patient showing good discipline now he's in the driver's seat with the 3-1 count rander kick deals and that one is lifted in the the air Duca sizes this one up and makes the grab and there's one away here's the kid Jackson Merill his first major league hit happened in Korea during the soul series with the padr nearly 7,000 miles away from his hometown of Baltimore he had to travel across the world for his first career hit but I think that makes it even more special boo what a cool moment that was for him runs it up to 96 to record the punch out two outs Bas is empty David Peralta the next up for the Padres fights it off you'll see [Music] another tries to check his swing now look to Third and he won around not an easy call there but that puts an end to the inning [Music] and welcome back to the ballpark now it's the second baseman Jonathan oranda ha in the pitch sing he wasn't very sharp in the first got hit around a little bit just wasn't able to locate particularly well a lot of stuff for the fat part of the plate yeah boo he wasn't fooling anyone it's a tough place to be cuz it's not always obvious what adjustments need to be made sometimes it's location sometimes it's being too predictable sometimes you're iing your pitches he's going to need toig this one's Fair down the line and left and it's going to be extra bases throws to Second and he starts his afternoon off right with a double showed some really nice patience in that at bad worked himself into a good count I don't know how he's able to shoot that pitch the other way and still put something on it that pitch was inside and he let it get really deep so pretty incredible hands to fight it off and still get good wood on it righty delivers helpful in the dirt and an excellent job keeping it right [Applause] there payoff pitch that one out to right and it falls around third throw is up line and he scores and it's four nothing well done drives in the run so impressive that he was able to fight off that fast ball up and in like that I mean he really let it get deep him as well that's great back control one strike runner at first with no outs here swings here and blasts one left field profar going back BS Off the Wall coming home he'll score and the lead is up to five stringing him together that's three three hits in a row anytime you Martin Perez gets the call from the pen on for his major league debut so we'll see if he's ready for the big stage he just has to remember this is the same game that he's played all the way through the minor leagues to this point the only difference there just more people in the stands and it's a bigger Stadium but the game itself is still the same look at the catcher whatever fingers he puts down that's what you throw and just let him Lead You balls hit like that but there's always a little room back behind the first and second baseman to drop a la Dart in there and he found a way McCoy leads off first with one away bad throws over McCoy back in on a dive and he deals SW going to miss the velocity blasted it right past him now batting JX profile J profile two outs and one and two one ball two strike two two oh right to the back stop and now a man into scoring position the Rays leading by five we're here in the top half of inning number three now it's three and two they'll chis through the early stages he hasn't been very Jeremiah Estrada and this is the best way to make your major league debut no one on base yeah you're already going to be a little nervous out there so I think it's a nice job by the skipper to get him the better of him that time now back to the top of the lineup next is the designated hitter Christopher Morel one down base is empty that's in there Estrada is what you're looking for in a good reliever the ball stays in the ballpark it's so hard to square him up yeah he stays out of the middle and in pitches either at the bottom at the top on the edges and because of that if you do get it in the air it's usually just a highfly ball and when it's down in the zone it's on the ground two out space is empty digging in Brandon La two down nobody on we're here in the bottom of the fourth down to the dirt swing and a miss he's so consistent that the manager basically could look at it like he's got three outs sitting in his pocket that shortens the game fights that one away still one more disciplined at the plate they've been chasing pitches outside the Zone all game and it's led to some frustrating moment they've been fooled quite a bit today the 3-1 that one misses so a lead off morol on for his major league debut and a moment he will never forget better believe that it's always so special the first time you get into a big league ball game I did it as a position player but for him as a pitcher sure there's some nerves there probably don't want to squeeze the baseball too tight just relax and do what you're capable of doing swing it a Miss that's strike two this guy's got such a good Sinker as a hitter you've got to look up in the zone if you look down you're going to be chasing stuff in the dirt swing and a miss struck him out one gone here and now here's the reason he's an everyday player is he usually lays off of that J the tying run at the plate base hit Runner around third on his way to the plate he scores and it's now 54 his confidence level is so Runners on probably a challenge pitch [Applause] coming with the tying run at second goahead run at first and we're in the top of the eight he's gone off speed he needs to elevate here with two seeing the ball very well in this one nice job of driving that the other line you know hitters they take so many reps in the cages working on going to the opposite field and it doesn't drilled out and they are available to Pitchers but this is a guy that puts the bat on the ball and is kind of different cavier off balance feed there's one throw to first but he beat it that play won't be trending on social media later on but it's still important to execute it to Perfection this game is a lot harder than it looks [Applause] partner tying run at the plate that time and it's strike two two strik try to get him to chase on the change up that time lay off that pitch [Applause] down and now the Lefty struck him out looking and they're down to their last out and here's the first baseman Jake Cronin you know this is kind of a tough matchup as a left-handed hitter facing a left-handed pitcher what you tell yourself is I want to stay Square to the plate try to hit the ball over the short Stop's head they're down to their final strike and he really sells the change with that arm qu is just one strike away fights it off he'll see another and it's [Applause] skipor that just misses counts full three and two that turns out to be a really good take right there but you don't want to end this game with the bat on your shoulder gets a piece there we'll do it again two outs ground ball and this should do it on to first ball game baz with his first major league win yeah nicely done I'm sure he'll feel very good about that and get the ball for his trophy case as he should a start he won't ever forget and this one ends with a the final score of 6 to4 for Chris Singleton and our entire crew I'm John shy saying so long [Applause] [Music]
