MLB Network breakdown Alvarez hits 3 HRs, Arrighetti carries no-hitter in Astros blank Phillies 10-0

on who hit not one not two but three home runs but I got to ask you about Spencer arag Getti first what do you think of Spencer's performance today yeah incredible you know it wasn't until inning that we noticed what the way the way he was pishing after that you know we started paying a lot more attention to the game but yeah you know obviously his last few outings he's you know he's pitch amazing he's pitching like a great big leer what got in into you today what led to your big day I don't know you know we're heading home now so I had to hit someone the road as well how big was this win today too I know the last couple of days have been tough losses for you guys you know it's big it's big obviously you know this what we're trying to do throughout the season trying to win games try battling games and yeah I think it was a big win obviously after the loss yesterday congrats son a great day Spencer arti started and finished this road trip with outstanding performances two of the best offenses in all of Major League Baseball the or and the Phillies and he combines to go 13 and 23 of shut out baseball today flirted with the no hitter took it into the eighth inning gives up two hits and shut out baseball today by far his best game of his career his professional career as he goes a career high seven and two3 alongside Michael Bourne I'm Kevin ashenfelder good to wel you to the post Gap show presented by waterburger from our space City Home Network Studios this was so much fun to watch it it is so much fun to watch what Spencer arag Getti is doing right now you talk about a guy that pitches with confidence uh something that is just he's beaming with confidence right now you can see it every time he struck somebody out he takes the glove off walks around the mound you can see him looking out there just in his eyes he has that confidence he's laser focused when he's out there and one thing I like about him is he's always whenever good play is made behind him he's he's jumping in the air has the hands in the air and also congratulating these guys once he gets to the DU out cuz he he plays as a team game yeah he got good plays made behind him but he didn't have to have very many because he was in control that's what happens when you have 11 guys take a right turn and head back to the dougout he punches out 11 fourth time in this his rookie season that he has had a double digit strikeout game he started off right off the bat three fast ball to Kyle SCH but one thing I want you to pay attention to if you're watching those Shadows against that Slaughter that Shadows helped him out with that Slaughter and he knew how to take advantage of it that's being having a baseball IQ him and keratina was on the same page and you can see again that Slaughter it's hard for hits to pick up in those shadows and he took advantage of it but he kept him off balance all night fast ball inside out Slaughter and one thing that I like that he added on towards the end of his of his outing was the change up but you'll see it in a few Clips ahead of this but had Trey Turner the only person he did not strike out he strike out everybody in the entire Phil lineup except Brandon Marsh we got him at the end yeah who got caught looking to end the game you know what impressed me too I want you to speak to this you're talking about a young experienced pitcher there were two times in this game he walked two in the same inning it never phased him it never rattled him you know some guys go okay now he's got to throw from the stretch for the first time today and and the wheels will kind of come off just a little bit he walked backto back hitters Bryson stot and Brandon Marsh in the second inning with two outs came right back in got a strike out after that but eight fly outs four ground outs 11 Punchy only walk walk in this game as well Spencer is a guy that I think he pays attention to everything when I say everything I think he even knew where the wind was blowing today the wind was going left to right so he pays attention to that so he knows where to pitch certain people if you're going to hit it okay try to hit it out to left while the wind is blowing that way it might change directions as time is going on but he he paid attention to everything that's going on like you said when he was getting in trouble it didn't fade him you can look on his face and tell the relaxed moments of his face the relaxed tension that's not that's not like he's really worried about what's going on while he's out there which I love from a rookie picture and like you said against Baltimore and Philly the combined strike outs and the cine no earned runs on the road on the road man and this guy this guy has a calm demeanor about him and like they were talking about earlier he's fighting for a playoff starting spot yeah on the road against those two really good teams in an afternoon crowd today in Philadelphia where you played there as a home as a home player as a visitor as well but that's as good a crowd that's as tough a place to pitch I would imagine as any there were 38,000 people there today at that game nothing phased Spencer arti whatsoever and you know to to to back up piggy back off what you said it starts in the bullpen the fans up there get your get right on you from the bullpen they they start getting on you so to see him come out and see how he came right to me it seemed like it got him motivated I'm pretty sure they were talking noise to him doing whatever three pitches right off the Kyle schwarber byebye see you later all right Danny when yordon hit this ball I was thinking get out of play get out of play get in the seats they got in the seat all right I thought look how far that's off the plate when you have a ball that's that far off the plate and you keep it fair and hit it over the fence you don't really have anywhere you can go with him look like a popup and it stays fair that means the ball stay true as you see it doesn't have any curve if you watch him that means he stays through the ball as he's hitting it no side spin or anything 37 degree launch angle that's high this is just an absolute scud to get look people get out of the way from the bullpen I mean he first a fast ball away then the curve ball that's over the over the me the plate but he hits it where it's pitched right back up the middle itself he has a little bit more power than most people watch this one he didn't even have to get on his back leg I mean that ball is inside a little bit he stays through it again inside the ball as you see little bit inside still over the plate though but a little bit inside on a line this is not a ball that's like in the air on that's a line drive my line drive is going right to the center field and it's out I line drve would have been a two Hopper back in the picture I mean what's I might as well do that hey that was that was impressive as as you know and that's the thing too you got to get him going and we talked about it before uh the difference in what yordon has been on the road as opposed to home now you got this four game series coming we'll talk more about that but got to get him going at home and that's a certainly a good sign to wrap up this road trip I agree he's hit 22 of his 28 home runs on the road hey baseball is a crazy sport I have no you know you can't put something on paper that says why is he hitting better on the road than when he's hitting at home it's just how it it's just how it goes for baseball maybe he likes the road cooking in the hotel something I I don't know I can't tell you what he's ordering on the menu but whatever he's doing hopefully he can transfer that to Houston and do it some kind of way next home run he hits at M mayate Park will be the first one in over two months I'm going to pop some popcorn and throw it all over the house when he does it there you go there you go all right uh they will take on the Kansas City Royals tomorrow now the Astros got on the board in the first inning Jose altuve's got great numbers against Taiwan Walker in his career 32 career bats against Walker and another hit that was how this game got going that double Off the Wall yeah we thought that was g at first such a beautiful swing didn't over swing seeing Seena split right over the middle of the plate and took full advantage of it this is Taiwan Walker Achilles here right now he's leaving that split up and the Astros knew it and you know he took a he took a good swing and put it on put got us a double right off the bat then gets to third base and check this out Bryce Harper not paying attention and Jose Altuve steals home so look at this right there you see him ease off the bag when you whenever you're a base run at third you're Tau take a couple steps off the back you see Pitch to pick off to first if you're first and third but you have to make a split decision reaction if you want to go home or not Bryce Harper was trying to worry about the tag Taiwan Walker has a great pick off move thought he had him for a second Altuve took full advantage of it to me Bryce Harper actually made a mistake by standing there too long but hey we'll take it they got us on the board right away is that something though you see before that play that you see that how Bryce Harper handles the ball at first break remember Bryce Harper is not a a real experienced first baseman I mean he's played there this year but for the most part you know Bryce Harper is a guy who spent most of his major league career not at first base is that something you you read and you kind of pay attention to when you're in The Dugout yes you do but one thing about it he he made that transition last year the first base like you said he's not natural I don't know if theyve seen it on film before how he handles tags and if if he stays there and actually tries to hold on the tag but that's something as a first Bas a natural first basan probably knows not to hold that tag on that long because you have somebody on third that can run and you see him take two two stenches real quick and he makes a split you can't wait too long you got to make a split decision and go I jumped off that secondary guess to I think he was magnificent he was really really good I thought the uh hosel tway stealing home in the first ining I thought that really set the tone for us today we need a little spark and I think he did that um and then after that Spencer got on the mound and he was he was lights out he was so good um fast balls you know breaking like he had everything working against a really good lineup he it was really good um you know he wanted Bryce Harper there at the end and he he you know which I appreciate that um so he was really good can you take us through some of your decisions late in that game just just sending him when you guys built that big lead taking bregman out and just kind of your decision making as as that no hitter gets into the eighth yeah you know um you know my my first thought is we are playing 18 straight um I got to give my guys a little breather it's 94° outside um I'm very much aware of the uh no hitter and where everybody's at but right now is we have bigger goals right now which is win this division so I got to do everything in my power just to make sure that everybody's healthy everybody you know is ready to you know you know recover for tomorrow um and that's all I was thinking you know and also Spencer had the pitches to go out there and continue to go and if he would have been efficient in the eighth you know he probably would have gone out there in the ninth yeah mention the rec just couple hits here and there away when a game like this one how much does it help a team in trying to get their confidence not get the confidence back but get back into a rhythm in terms of they're hitting yeah it does it matters you know we went out there and we s the bats really well the first two games we we know we didn't really do much offensively um but today from the very beginning we had really good approach we you know we hit some some home runs we um we got two you know two out RBI singles um Jordan Alvarez are you kidding me right now like you know um that's the offense that um I expect our boys to be every day with with bran how much did the hit by pitch uh come like backing taking hour a lot you know Bry you know he's got a sore elbow he's posting every day um got to take care of him and he you know he wants to be out there it's not easy taking Brey out of the game but I got to take care of him you know um need him for another 30 40 hopefully 40 something games he was okay after that yes he was he was he was uh look like it was a like a breaking ball and you know he turned his head on you know you know early enough to kind of not really get him full flush there on that hit what did you see I mean that was not an easy play by third baseman but play that could have been made what did you see on that play yeah it looked like it was you know not a routine you know not a routine play kind of in between hot there um a plays that I seen Whip made uh many many times but um you know today was not the day that you know but but it's fine he he you know gave us a good effort on that ground ball and Spencer um you know was outstanding this get Chaz going the Home Run uh is one it bet here in his I I hope so and throwing his hometown um you know that's a chess that we we know someone who could drive the ball opposite field so uh hopefully he gets him going back to al2 B stealing home just what was your view on that I mean could you tell that he had a good a good enough secondary and was that something that maybe you guys saw in advance or yeah we now you know there's stuff that we look at that teams do on pick and um we put it in the heads of our base runners um and Jos had a good secondary after that pick and you know he read the play well and he trusted his instincts which are one of the best in the game Spencer talked a little so how his Peaks and Valley the season have been pretty extreme when he's had the good outings what has been the difference from you uh a lot of strike once it was 70 pitches through seven something like that you know it was it was pounding the Zone um when he's ahead hter isn't uncomfortable at bat hitters don't want to be O2 against them so um when he's ahead he's just he's he's got control of the of the abat um and that's exactly what he did today would you tell him it looked like you guys had a light-hearted conversation on the mound how proud of us of him that you know that's a really good lineup I don't know you guys remember the last time he faced the Phillies was in Clear Water so I told him I told you that you were going to get these guys uh at some point and he did um and he said Joe I really want Harper I said I know you do son but this is the end of the day I give you you get Harper some some other time right all right guys you're welome for for for oh [Music]
