MLB Network | Mark Derosa reacts Dodgers survive hitless night by Shohei Ohtani to beat Orioles 6-3

with that win the Dodgers are now the first team in all of baseball to have 80 wins on the season they've won the series against the Orioles you like what you saw out there today I mean this is the way you close out a great home stand you know end up seven seven- two end up taking the series from the Baltimore Oriol it was just an outstanding performance Bobby Miller I think really did a good job setting the tone he only gave up two hits yes he made a mistake they made that one pay but still gave his team a chance to win and once again the bullpen coming in getting the job done putting up the zeros and from an offensive standpoint hits throughout the entire lineup spreading out and scoring the runs yeah 14 hits and and really doing it by just passing the Baton getting those hits one after the next and not relying on extra base hits we got three extra base HS out there but just having really good quality at bats and that was great Bobby Miller did an incredible job one mistake that's okay and then the bullpen shut it down this is a great win a great tone set way to set the tone get it going into this series coming starting tomorrow and a great way to win the series against a very tough American League team and the team at Austin Barnes back behind the plate he's coming off with the I with a fractured big toe but that did not stop him from having a multi-ad game and he is currently right now with David Bas hey this guy did almost everything tonight in his first game back from the iil and you're trying to play it off so cool no I mean know obviously we're getting l in this season every game's big uh two other teams playing pretty well in NLS but I thought we played a pretty good game I thought Bobby pitched well um you know that one that one inning he it's tough we're up 5-0 3-1 kind of fed him a heater maybe could have pitched him tough so but I thought he did a great job and I bulling did a great job to come in how big was it for Blake trening to come in get the get the job done with the Bases Loaded in the seventh and then come back and retire them in order in the eighth inning yeah he was uh he was really good tonight um those are the biggest outs of the game for us you know just to bridge it to the eighth and Ninth and uh you know giving that basis loaded Punchy obviously with a really good hit her up um yeah Blake was really good tonight how about that fourth inning Baltimore chop against the Baltimore Orioles you like that huh a little I liked it too I like it too yeah it's nice to get that one right there I don't know what you were doing at second base was that the new wiggle I mean on your knees I was just fing it man let me live let me live hey that was 2016 Barnes tonight stealing second base and running all over the place yeah like in rehab they made me run a lot so I I feel faster we see you on the plane thanks a lot see there he goes Austin Barnes the captain thanks v he's back he's feeling good but it wasn't just him you said it earlier there were hits up and down the line of multiple guys had multi-hit games what were you seeing from the offense that stood out to you you know I think uh Adrian was right it wasn't always about the long ball it wasn't about the but but they were just having quality at bat they were getting the job done they were executing you know the one guy who didn't get a hit gentleman named sh Otani I mean I know that's hard to believe but he's the one guy who didn't get the hit but everyone else in the like ended up getting hit with what I really like is they scored six runs but there were five different guys with RBI today so that is telling you that all it was the next guy up it was next guy up that even they weren't looking for something to just drive out of the ballpark it was like if I get that single the next guy behind me will get the job done he'll be able to pass it on the next guy and that's really what we saw especially the way they scored the runs they had sacrificed flies here they were moving guys over so I just thought from an off that's that's what you're capable of doing it's a reminder to your team that you don't have to rely on the long ball you have it they have the power we know that but at the same time you continue to do these little things this is what puts on a pressure on the opposing pitching staff yeah 100% five of 13 from with Runners and scoring position that is really good and the one thing I I I really enjoyed is as as we're watching these highlights and we watched the game today was the fact that these hits were not all pulled they were not all the other way they were all over the ballpark you got hits down the left field line you got hits down the right field line you got hits of guys getting jammed and going the other way you got HS guys getting jammed and pulling the ball as you see right here Chris Taylor so you have different approaches but everybody having a quality approach not try and do too much with the ball and really just playing team offense and doing a great job of passing it on to the next guy by getting getting their base hits putting the ball in play running the bases great as we sawon Barnes with a stolen base got Tommy Edmond with a stolen base so we got a couple of stolen bases in there like noar says stack flies we had a little bit of everything and that's lot of fun to watch it was truly a complete team win but now let's get inside the check in with the guys who were on the call Joe Davis and oral Hyer Dodgers take this series from the Orioles winning the final game 63 yeah the offense did the job six guys getting MTI hits show he doesn't get a hit but he did his thing last night this team looks pretty good and the offense looks like it's ready to fire on all cylinders they're going to need that in Arizona it's going to be a fun four game series Kershaw takes it in the open yeah and you know what probably buer on the last day you put those two at the front and the back and guys in the middle should be pretty good it's going to be exciting to go to Arizona I can't wait to get on the plane can't wait to see these guys play all right Friday night 640 Kershaw for the Dodgers Zack G for the Diamondbacks Bobby how'd you feel out there tonight feel pretty good um just four and 2/3 of really good pitching and then just just one bad pitch seems to be a story of my last few outings it's just one bad pitch that I want to look back on and unfortunately it's over the fence but you know one day one day soon it'll fall I know pitchers talk about it's not so much the home run but what takes place before the Home Run is that equally as frustrating oh yeah for sure I wouldn't have faced him if I didn't walk the guy before um there was a couple guys before that guy that I was having a lot of success on and um unfortunately it was an HP and then hit by pitch or no HP and then a walk which yeah just not getting not getting 01 early enough towards the end of the game um yeah that's about it early in the game though did it feel like your change up was allowing your fast ball to play up more yeah 100% um yeah everything was feeling really good uh even the slider felt a little bit better today uh there was one that I hung but it wasn't out but uh yeah curveball on chain felt great you know the strengths uh have been getting better and I'm really close when you were covering first base in the second inning it looked like something happened with your left leg can you describe what that was and did it affect you the rest of the outing yeah uh that was just the left knee um some I've been dealing with for a while you know our training staff has done an outstanding job of keeping me healthy and keeping me out there so um really thankful for them um yeah everything kind of just went a little downhill after that I wasn't really finishing my pitches as good losing some Stu arm side but you know it's no excuse to to not make a pitch do you feel like that's something that you can manage moving forward 100% i' I've p there has plenty of time so um no worries about that what you think about Austin barnes's game great he he was outstanding back there you know I like throwing to him uh both of our guys you know we got two really good catchers back there that know the game very well that can that can manage a game behind the play very well so um it's really nice thr to the guys we have all right ajour will Bobby Miller picked up the win with this outing today so I think we should break it down let's go to the K Zone we should let's go to the kzone and I just want to really highlight the importance of in the big Le getting ahead of the count as we start breaking down Bobby here in his game we see that he's in the two two count throws an incredible breaking pitch at the bottom of the zone now he's in the two- two count again throws a really good change up running away for the strikeout one two count Change Up Down The Zone 01 count change up down the zone for the ground ball as you can see he's ahead of the hitters we always talk about getting ahead oh onew count right here change up gets the double play great job now in this last clip he's 3-1 he fell behind guess what big league hitters do not miss a fastball 3-1 count and that is the difference in that one pitch is that he fell behind gave the hitter a chance to be like I'm going to sip on this fast ball and if he throw it over the plate I'm going to hit it out and that is why we talk about in the pregame what's the importance of today getting ahead command and doing all those little things because Big League hitters will take advantage of those mistakes if you fall behind yeah it's an excellent point and then also when you give up free passes you know that was the one hit it was you gave up a couple of free passes they got on base and ended up being a three-run home run but overall at the same time we still like got to be conf you got to feel good about the performance of Bobby Miller hopefully he feels good about his performance and continues building that confidence cuz overall it was a good performance for Bobby Miller it was with four shutout Innings from Blake trinen and the bullpen can you uh let talk about this home stand you guys only lost two games and you be three really good in league teams great home standand um really good baseball uh yeah I mean playing against teams that are um in pennant races you know preparing for the postseason and uh I I thought we showed well um you know I don't think it was a litus test or anything but it's still good to go out there and find ways to win baseball games and I thought we did it in different ways throughout the homestand um you know at times the the starting pitching was really good other times the bats came to life and the defense I felt was pretty consistent outside of that first game here against the uh the Orioles um and just something to build on so now you know we can look towards the Diamond Backs and those guys obviously are playing great baseball and it's going to be uh you know boisterous and a lot of people a lot of Dodger fans a lot of uh Dbacks fans so it's going to be a great series do you feel like you guys are starting to play the way that you believe you're capable of playing going into this series I I do I I do um there's some little things that I think that need to be cleaned up but um I think overall guys are understanding that this is a time to lock it in and they're doing so how much of that with the L full strength just being able to not be as top heavy as you guys work for no it's great you know um obviously getting migie back and Tommy um length at the lineup I think K is still taking good at bats and Gavin kind of moving him around the order and so yeah and even this series Without Freddy um and without will getting untracked which I think he's showing some life um just been really good and I think that's certainly part of it having that length and also being able to kind of give migy a day off here there to you know play Tommy and get Kier Meer in there so yeah I think we're just on certainly on the position players side um we're at full strength OB he said he uh kind of tweaked his left knee he's been managing it uh do you foresee that being an issue moving forward um I hope not yeah you saw him you know cover first base on the one play and then the uh I think it was a holiday play couldn't get to the bag and then you could see um it kind of wasn't feeling well and I don't know if that led to the home run you know with cowser but you know up until that point I I thought he threw the ball fantastic he was mixing uh liking to be a little bit more efficient um but just got behind to cower and then he had Homer but we have a five run lead so it makes sense um but yeah overall I thought really good what did you think about that seventh inning where Hudson Lads the bases but Trina was able to get you guys out of it come back for the E could you feel like the momentum stay on your side what was the that sequence of then SL um I I think that was one of those situations where you have so many guys down and um it's a perfect Lane for hudy I wanted to pitch him tonight um I thought the stuff was much better than it was before he had the little respit um he was a little rusty and so he got two quick outs and then he got count leverage and then you know lost a couple guys and then for me it was just right there the pitch count was getting up and I just felt we needed to stop the uh you know limit the damage at that point in time and Blake was huge doing a one plus um tonight but I really feel that today there were some good things for huie so um I'm going forward I'm just going to use him like he' he's always been used and expect that you know we kind of got rid of some Rust tonight but the bigger part of that was try and doing what he did yeah absolutely trying was great band was great and then Evan after the the hit batsman or the walk or whatever um was was great too yeah I I I think so as far as um on the health side of it this is as healthy as we've been uh certainly this series The Home stand took a lot out of us as far as workload um we got Clayton going tomorrow and I I feel good you know with the guys that that we have available um for this four game series but yeah this is uh as healthy as we've been all year you know collectively there is a speed bump on the front this is a child protected area front slow down less than 30 km [Music] [Music] oh is for for [Music] is

You know what that's just making mistakes within the strike zone and that happens in the bullpen but the bottom line is when i'm looking at this team and this staff they gave up 15 hits i don't care who's on the mound for the dodgers they know they're better than that to be able to give up 15 hits in...
