Cardinals vs Brewers | Gameplay (09/03/24)

[Music] [Music] young and welcome in everybody glad you're with us MLB the show has action out of the NL Central it's the St Louis Cardinals and the Milwaukee Brewers all right we'll be back to get this one started after this [Music] [Music] and the batter will be the short stop Mason wi trying to pick up his first knock in the big leagues the why to kick the pitch there's a line drive to left field and that gets down into the Gap now he'll turn for second and his first big league hit is a double just a solid swing right there CAU it out front and ripped it into the outfield for the base hit those always feel great Alec burlson next up for the Cardinals that one the other way jump throw one out the top of the first here's Nolan arado that in third the third Bas Nolan arono man it's second right through there for a stke wings and misses it's a strike out and him out run for strike three so two down now and here is Brendan Donovan swing and a miss two and two man on second two down got him [Music] [Applause] [Music] swinging this is Bryce Terra looking for his first big league hit right here the pitch swinging a foul straight back haai in the pitch got him looking and there's one away and now the DH Jackson [Music] Chio swing and a miss he was late strike two one two and another ball well he's so great about hitting the ball the other way he gets those arms extended so right there just trying to straighten him up a little bit so he doesn't have as much outside plate coverage canani makes the catch for the out and there's two away and now it's William contras he is talented player his big brother Wilson has that his little brother may end up being better than he is and that's downstairs and outside one on the ground right side over to Goldie and that is [Music] that top of the second and here's the first baseman Paul goldi Paul gold there's The Swinging one ball blows the high he pass him that's a strike out and up next for St Louis LS narar and that one hit to first Hoskins steps on the bag two up two down in the top of the second two outs Bas is empty Jordan Walker next up for the Cardinal walk next one off the plate inside and it's two and one and another [Applause] [Music] ball two down dolman on and he walked it one of the things about that two out walk the base runner over at first base is going to have a very aggressive secondary lead so all down the line or into the Gap will produce a two out RBI and those are the best that is if you are the offensive side of it two outs swing and this one's bounc to the ground gathers and throws to First and that is that [Music] ready to go for the last half of the inning now the left fielder Jake Bowers bow and a pitch swings through the fast up in the zone through that fast ball right by him slightly elevated that's a confidence boost for this guy out there on the mound see if he continues to climb the ladder willas stands in really a d the short stop takes the ball one down base is empty the two on is high no score here in the second fouls one away and now three and two hit in the air center field and there are two outs Garrett Mitchell up now for the Brewers two out space is empty out to short and it's through for a hit not much to this one other than just a willingness to go the other way and put the ball in that's a team to B right there nice job to stay back and let the ball get deep and now a chance to maybe get creative on offense with good runner around the go pitches High save at second and that was not close rer goes again now Fly ball to Right Center Walker gets under it make the play and it's out number [Music] three back here in Milwaukee well here we go top of the third scoreless game now btic Michael canani the 2-1 and that's in there at the knees man I mean nice job just presenting it to be better than it actually was waves at def with a strike out and now Mason wi seeing you talk about a guy that has all the skills the range is really good but the arm just stands out and he makes all the plays and because of that big Power arm he's able to play a little bit deeper make throws from The Outfield grass all the way across the diamond and still get a pretty good runner that's impressive HS and misses it's a strike out now the number two hitter Alec burlson two down dolman on and a foul [Applause] ball next pitch is outside he should get a pretty good pitch to hit here with three hole hitter coming up if he's walked Bo do you think you could draw Walk In The Bigs if we gave you enough at bats that's a good question um I think that if they gave the pitcher a false scouting report on me yes yes I think I could draw one two outs swing and a Fly ball in the air out towards right center field and that'll fall for a base hit throw in holds the lead runner at second two on now with two away back could be a really tough pitch to handle a front door breaking ball but he did a great job staying in there keeping that front shoulder closed he didn't spit off the ball and hook it foul which happened so many times runner in scoring position now and a good opportunity to push across the first run of the ball game and the rander deals and now it's filled up okay gets a piece and stays alive first and second two now we're here in the top half of inning number three in the air right field sizing this one up brings it in for the third [Applause] [Music] out as we go to the last of the third up now for Milwaukee s frein here's a 2-1 and a foul ball bounc to the right side Donovan throws the first in time one up one down next for Milwaukee Joseph Ortiz still tied at zero last to the third base hit center field [Applause] ryce Teran the next to hit wouldn't chase that time three ball two [Music] stra in the air left side Nar at a dead Sprint nbar racing over to make the [Applause] catch now a chance for Jackson [Applause] chated and the righty deals F off foul Ortiz off of first with two away that smashed toward Center snags it on the run and that is [Music] that and we're back on to the fourth and now the first baseman Paul goldi rander kicks deals no you know these cards as this game goes on have to be more disciplined at the play so many of their outs have come from weak contact on pitches they're chasing outside of the strike zone you can't do much of anything with those locations and that's sure again today cuts and misses it's a strike out now up for St Louis Lars Nar all tied up top half of inning number four and as a pitcher when the hitters are swinging at everything you feel no need to challenge inside the zone you just keep working the corners and expanding that Strike Zone and on and they just keep eating right out of your hand that's [Applause] inside and a swing in a Miss picks up strike out number seven Jordan Walker next up for the [Applause] [Music] Cardinals right through there for a strike fourth inning underway no score and another ball two two swing and a miss struck him out St Louis goes down in [Music] order back here at American Family field bottom of the inning here's the Brew catcher now William contras the wi to the pitch foul ball there and a pitch swing and a miss struck him out and one away now here's Jake bers number f one down base is empty sliced hard but foul leftand hitter Waits just missed it's a good [Applause] take sets him down looking he's got to be frustrated with that call Willie odas will hit next next offering is downstairs two and one [Applause] two down dolman on downstairs recognize that change up right out of the hand just spit on it gets a piece there we'll do it again he's mixing his pitches really well laid on that fast ball after seeing the change up see if he can Elevate one I think if he does he'll get the swing and Miss keeps the back going with a foul ball righty delivers and a swing to miss down on strikes and Milwaukee is set down in [Music] order all set for the start of the inn and now the Cardinals catcher Pedro [Music] PES and a pitch Line Drive not foled at all right there he was clearly all over it but sometimes you hit it too hard and right at someone you're looking for one of those bloop hits to get a knock sometimes swing and a miss him out couldn't catch up to the heater back to the top of the lineup and now the short stop Mason [Applause] win two outs so critical to keep an eye on the pitch count this time of the year guys can start to run FES a little bit mechanics can drop off and we know they need him to be fresh and ready for big innings in October lifted in the air now the left side Fair ball around first and hustling for second the throw in and he'll pull into second safely two hits for him in this one both for extra bases got to feel good about that hooked around that pitch on the outside but he was still able to square it up pretty nicely and that takes quick strong risk to pull that off boots it and he's going to make it to First and we'll see how they score it so two down here's the third baseman Nolan arado two on two outs and another ball could be some action here on this next pitch couple Runners on probably a challenge pitch coming [Applause] two and one now two aboard on the corner for a strike two two on the way and just misses with that one two two out run on first lot of movement in the infield HS got stay focused on the pitch in the air right side calls it in to end the [Applause] [Music] inning and welcome back to the ball head to the bottom of the fifth up now for Milwaukee Garrett Mitchell Mitchell left hand batter ws and strike two they'll try to bun for aeit right there and you can tell he's trying to get something anything going offensively inside gets out of the way the line of the pitch that misses the zone and now it's three and [Applause] two CAU him looking for the K the first and it's Reese Hoskins up to the dish he is very much your typical power hitter I'd say he falls into the three true outcomes category well we've seen more and more of that lately the ability to drive the ball to slug is getting heavily favored over any discipline or strikeout concerns a swing and a miss as he chases way out of the Zone still two and two after to the foul ball Bas is empty one away last half of inning number five up the middle donov it throws the first home man for the fifth inning moving along two quick outs number next for the Brewers sou freen swing and a base hit and that keeps the inning alive third basan number three Joseph Ortiz up now for the Brewers pickoff move to First and he's back in [Music] [Applause] safely kicks and fires and now to and one one straight Frey leads off first with two down to the [Applause] inning fouled off he was late two two now flyball down the line Walker moves towards it he's got it and that is the third out of the inning [Music] back here in Milwaukee top six here's the second baseman Brendan Donovan here's a 1-1 check swing did he go yes he did drilled to right way back there and that is gone a massive home run his first Homer of the year just like that they move in front it's one nothing so they turn things over to the righty Bryce Wilson on for his major league debut at a moment he will never forget better believe that it's always so special the first time you get into a big league ball game I did it as a position player but for him as a pitcher sure there's some nerves there probably don't want to squeeze the baseball too tight just relax and do what you're capable of doing you know these Cardinals really impressing me with the quality of their bats in this one it's been fun getting a chance to see him go to work they really made that opposing starter work in this one ran his pitch count up and now they've got an opportunity to continue making things difficult on the play two two now just and no they haven't broken through in a big way in the runs column but with the way they're grinding out at bats it definitely feels like there's potential for more coming swings and misses struck him out LS new now at the [Applause] plate one down base is empty foul we'll see another payoff pitch got it by him for the k two outs Bas is empty and now the right fielder Jordan Walker Walker here comes a pitch now it's three and two careful got him swinging snuck the fast ball by him [Music] bottom of the sixth inning and stepping in is the Speedy Bryce Teran the pitch swing and a miss struck him out now and next is the designated hitter Jackson Chio the redds up by a run here in the bottom of the six the pitch a little bit High and the count is even two and two really good take especially with two strikes here's the two [Applause] two that's hard hit in the line and there's two away here's the Brew's catcher now William contras well I got a chance to meet William during spring training as he was coming up trying to get to the big leags and this kid's got some ridiculous pop watch him on the back fields taking batting practice all of his coaches would just kind of roll their eyes and say this kid's going to be great without actually saying the words then later that season I got a chance to chat with Wilson big brother and asked him about little brother and he smiled as well said yeah he's good and this one swung on and hit well way back there and that one is Off the Wall lead Runner gets the stop sign at third it's a two out double second and third now backto back base hits anytime you smoke righty reliever out of the pen Sunny gray still a lot of game left and this game could go either way so this is a big opportunity for him to get some important outs try to help carry this lead into the later Innings so up next will [Applause] Adamas on the corner for a strike and a count one and two and the pitch swings and misses on the fast ball up in the zone for the strike [Music] out back here at American Family field here's the catcher Pedro p and he [Music] deals takes the swing now it appeal to First nope he held back right-handed reliever popped up Hoskins moves under it and there's one down boy that was a hanging breaking ball right there I think he tried to do a little bit too much sometimes those eyes can get really big I think his swing broke down as well and that's what caused him to pop it [Applause] [Music] up righty to the pl knocks that one away and we'll do it again one out base is empty on the ground right side and that one handled fires over to First and two away to start the seven and stepping in for the Cardinals Mason [Applause] wi that's outside now three and one the rander gives up the two out walk things about that two out walk the base runner over at first base is going to have a very aggressive secondary lead so ball down the line or into the Gap will produce a two out RBI and those are the best that is if you are the offensive side of it next in there for a strike and the count one and two right side hard hit whips it to First that ends the frame [Applause] set for the last half of the seventh up now for Milwaukee Garrett [Applause] Mitchell and now two balls in a strike swing and a miss as he was late that time looking to get the tying run on two base not even close there and a full countdown hit pretty well in the air out to Center sizes this one up makes the grab one down and the batter now is Reese lot of times you're looking for a guy to get that tying run on base but because of the power you want him to tie up the game with one swing here pitches [Applause] downstairs got him swinging next for Milwaukee sou [Applause] fre two down do on in the air to left Center n moves under it he's got it and that'll end the [Music] inning and we're back here's Nolan R in AO third the pitch that one fouled off just off the inside corner ball two in the air out towards Right Center Mitchell going after it no trouble here puts it away for the out and there's one down and next will be the cleanup hitter Brendan Donovan that one by L the zone two and two now one down base is empty and that one is [Music] inside that's foul off to the right side keeps the ab going payoff pitch the 3-2 is off the outside edge and that is ball for that's a great atat he saw a lot of pitches and earned a walk one gone runner at first Paul goldi next up for the [Applause] [Music] Cardinals right through there for a strike good approach right there you want to get something just a little higher that you can Elevate stand on that double play one run game one out one on [Applause] [Music] and here it comes fights it off he'll see another pitcher having a pretty tough time getting that swing and Miss third foul ball in a row the pitch stays [Applause] alive at the belt and fires not close with that one now two and two got him looking and he didn't like to fall Lars new next up for the Cardinals and the rhander deals and a swinging a Miss there and another [Music] [Applause] ball got him looking and that's the third out [Music] back now new pitcher on the mound as we roll into the bottom of the eth Kyle Le this is his first appearance of the Season [Music] number2 well one run game now the Third basem te why to kick the pitch that's out to center field he's under it and there's one away oh such a confidence boost for a relever to come into the ball game and get the first hitter he faces just makes everything slow down a little bit and then from there can really settle in ripped to Third and caught here's the Brewers DH Jackson CH That Swing right there tells me he's seeing the ball pretty well I know it didn't produce a hit but he made Solid contact and that's all you're looking to do anytime you're at the plate very solid Inning on the mound so far here in the eighth holding on to this narrow lead this is exactly what they were looking for two two that misses the zone and the counts even at [Music] [Applause] two this one in the air center field canani in position bring brings it in and that'll do it we're back it's the top of the night and there's a new pitcher on the M Trevor McGill pretty tight game so they're looking for pitches out of him right here got to do his best to keep the score right where it [Music] is well one run game now up for St Louis Jordan Walker Jordan Walker and another ball fast ball for a strike was absolute gas triple digits on the gun it's just a different experience as a hitter watching that go by Swing and a ground ball out to short Zips it to fin now one gone in the ninth and now the catcher comes up ah H Pedro PES one down base is empty swings through that one one ball stra the high he pass that's a strike out and up next for St Louis Michael canani ground locked in right now one run game here in the ninth and that's downed away not looking like they'll be adding any insurance runs heading to the bottom of the ninth so it's going to be on the bullpen to hold this lead wouldn't chase that time kicks andand and it goes just foul one-run game here in the top of the nin that one is absolutely B to and gone and they tack on to their lead it's two nothing so the lineup flips over Mason win next up for the Cardinals and a swing in the Miss two down bases empty but one run across here at the top of the n on the ground to Third and that's just [Applause] [Music] foul and they'll do it again some real good life going through the Zone on that one line to the pitch the short stop takes the [Applause] ball next pitch is outside and that's ball three two outs bounce to Third tosses across the first and that is that back now and on the mound a closer Ryan Helly I can't imagine any save is an easy one you're holding a small lead on the scoreboard and you know those hitters are going to give you the best at bats they can so it's always high stress let's see what he's got here to try and close it out here's a catcher now William cont [Applause] will they hope he's the guy to spark a comeback he tends to play better when his team is behind so why not him the 2-1 right through there for a strike well in this one the offense has sputtered somebody's got to find a way to get on keep the line moving and manufacture at least one run then maybe you get two or three swings through it and that's a strike out the no left he's two outs away here's the left fielder Jake Bowers B is empty one away we're in the last half of the ninth inning so a foul ball makes it one and two hey look we'll see how it factors in I just can't emphasize how much that insurance run in the top of the ninth means I mean just such a big difference mentally when you're chasing two runs instead of one swings through that one it's a strike out solder down to their final out Willie Adamas getting ready to [Applause] hit and another ball hit to right and that should do it he's got it ball game and the Cardinals claim the win here behind some great pitching in defense to nothing your final here in this one for Chris Singleton and our entire outstanding crew here at MLB the Show I'm John shabi we'll see you soon [Applause] is [Music]
