The Chicago Bulls Signing Talen Horton-Tucker Is…..Odd

so I need someone to confirm this but I don't believe in the history of NBA basketball we've ever seen a franchise have four players on their roster from their home City and look Chicago is known for its roots and producing high level talent in basketball it is a basketball City through and through but there are currently 10 players in the NBA from Chicago and four of them now play for the Chicago Bulls this of course after we learned last night that the Bulls have signed ton Horton Tucker to an exhibit 10 deal which essentially means he'll be given a training camp invite to try out for the team it is not a guaranteed deal the Bulls already have a full 15-man roster 14 players are guaranteed only one being partially guaranteed that being of onal btim and the Bulls would have to wave btim to open up that final roster spot for tht and with the bulls also signing Kenny Lofton Jr to an exhibit 10 deal it's going to make for a pretty competitive training camp to see who is going to make that final roster for this upcoming season but regardless the ton Horton Tucker signing is interesting a bit of a head scratcher for me given the current makeup of this roster and what do I mean by description now for those that don't know tht like I said Chicago native went to Sime on high same high school as Derrick Rose and Jabari Parker was a star for Simeon and a top 50 recruit in the nation coming out of high school played his oneandone season in college at Iowa State where he was okay I wouldn't say it was anything overwhelmingly impressive but because of his potential his athleticism and explosiveness Tucker decided to foro a sophomore season and declared for the draft despite not being a first round Prospect most mocked draft boards in 2019 and he would ultimately fall to the second round and be taken by the magic with the 46th pick before being traded to the Lakers and while he barely played in his rookie year by a sophomore season D Horton Tucker had taken a big jump in his production and was actually a contributing piece to the Lakers even going into the playoffs coming off the bench putting in 20 minutes per game and nine points per game and it's funny because I remember at that time and this was before I had the channel but hearing all of those Lakers fans talking about how Tucker is the future how he's going to be special and while I always root for the Chicago products I just didn't see it with taylon Horton Tucker kind of reminded me of a Shannon sharp type player super athletic fun to watch but a very inefficient player on offense who is subpar in the defensive end and ended up working out for Tucker though because he ultimately got his bag after two solid Seasons with the Lakers and signing that threeyear $30 million deal until the Lakers said and maybe this guy isn't the player that we thought he would be and traded him for an aging Patrick Beverly to the Utah Jazz and while THD has been okay for the Jazz he really hasn't shown much progress since his sophomore season in the league and with his contract expiring it was pretty clear the Jazz weren't going to be resigning him and up until yesterday Tucker remained a free agent looking for a team that would be interested in his services so anyway here is where it becomes a bit of a heads scratcher for me because while tht is still young even even though it seems like he's been in the league for a while now he's only 23 so he vits the B's new timeline of their youth movement if you will it's a very lowrisk signing because again it's an exhibit 10 deal so you're not committing to anything long term and if he shows up well and exceeds expectations in Camp the Bulls can wave btim and sign him to a Min deal which doesn't have any impact on their cap sheet given he'll just be replacing the money they would have already owed but him anyway and in this instance you take a chance on a flyer who maybe could still suddenly break out and be a productive player for your team but if we're being realistic here taylon Horton Tucker just isn't that guy and look if the Bulls were low on backourt players yeah this would make sense give them another option at the one or two if they like them coming out of training camp but the Bulls have so many guards as it is that it's going to be impossible to fit all of them together into the rotation don't forget Zach and Lonzo are still in this roster you combine that with the young talent and the players they should be prioritizing and Kobe and IO as well as Josh giddy I know he technically is not a guard I'm more of a point for but the point is Bulls have too many guards so even in the event tht looks great and the bull say yeah we should sign this guy is he even going to get any minutes in the back court anyway like the Kenny Lofton Jr signing even though I still say it's very unlikely he makes it out of training camp as well at least with Lofton there is a need for him on the roster in giving the bull some depth in the front Court a big body who plays hard and with a lot of passion but tan Horton Tucker what's the point of giving him a training camp invite if he doesn't make sense for your roster to begin with and then the other thing here is that THD well yes he can score and he can get hot in a hurry he's a very streaky player inefficient scorer and not the best decision maker on the court man shot below 40% from the field last season not from three from the field he shot a career best a career best from three at 33% last year that's his career best he's shooting below 30% from Deep for his career as a whole true shooting percentage of 503 turns the ball over at a pretty high rate relative to his usage isn't really much of a playmaker although last year he did get better in that regard and of course he doesn't play the best defense so yeah apologies for my skepticism on him making it Beyond training camp and Landing a roster spot on this team now I did hear some say well we should take him over Chris DTE and while I can see the argument first of all the Bulls would be leaving money on the table that impacts their cap sheet since DTE is on a guaranteed deal for the rest of the season we know Jerry isn't going to do that and while I'm not that high on DTE I still think that he can be a more well-rounded player than T Horton Tucker in the right role and give the right opportunity so no I would not take ton Horton Tucker over Chris dwarte I really think it boils down to btim and whether the Bulls keep btim over Lofton and Tucker and if you're choosing between one of them it's going to make more sense to go with Lofton just based on the Bull's needs at this time I know he's a Chicago native and yes it would make for a great story but we also have to be realistic here and what's actually going to help this team for the long run so anyway we'll see how training camp shakes out in about a month I would love to hear what you guys think of this signing let me know
