what going on guys Chase Daniel here today we are going to break down Zach Wilson been really impressed with how well he has played this preseason he was on our scoop City Podcast a couple weeks ago and Shawn Payton told us that he was having one of the best camps of his career he played really well in this game not sure if he's going to get traded or not but I do believe he deserves a chance at a number two backup job can't wait you to show you this film let's get into it right here right now all right Zach Wilson thought he played really well he's in a battle for the backup quarterback position look at this using his legs to extend the down and get a first down guys are pumped let's see this see what the route concept is looks like it's spinner okay they call it spinner don't know why they call it spinner because you're spinning in there all right with a shallow cross might have a square out right here don't know you want to check this if it's a square out if it's cold a square out you can check it and take it if not then you're going to progress to the shallow to the basic Shawn Payton loves this um concept this is going to be manto man let's check it out let's see his eyes to a shallow okay which he does and he feels color right there it's impossible for him to step up right there I don't think he could he could hit this basic behind really good job the pocket movement let's see that one again look at this right here up and out love to see it he looks fast too next play right here snug formation off the ball off the ball on everyone's inside the numbers shot play alert for Shawn Payton yep and it's seven-man protection really eight-man protection Twan route looks like it's single high Zone pure progression read fires the freaking pig skin look at this throw guys would like to see it on another hitch you want don't want to see the dagger get too far in all they're doing right here is they're doing this spray out you want to attack this leverage if it's open that's number one all right and then you have this deep dagger at 22 yards this is number two you have the back over here is three so you're just reading it across the board let's see where he's at got this tied end whacking back to be able to block it okay he's ready to throw this not open in the NFL not at all but because of such a good fake you're able to get all these backers to step up I'm talking about if you can get Zack Wilson to play Under Center I think you can unlock a lot of things around him all right under Center see the footwork don't he just look a lot smoother that's a looking that way the play fake to the back okay this hook curl Defender does not getting up depth at all what does he do steps up in the pocket fires it I love his release it's quick keeps that back spiral nice throw and catch all right next play right here looks like it's Sluggo seam with a dragon route love this route by Shawn Payton so it's what what they what they like to call dragon and go call it Drago Sluggo but if it's Dragon which is a slant and a flat it's called Dragon don't know why it's called Dragon that's just what it's known around the league he runs a Sluggo okay then you have this seam right here and you have another seam right there how they teach you to read it is go Sluggo is one seam is two and then find your back if not so let's see what Zach does here's the free safety he's going back to the middle of the field need to hold him in the middle of the field let's see what he does okay pumps it right there perfect looks like it's quarters so they actually tricked us this place sucks first quarters he's got covered by him this seems covered by him this Sluggo should be covered by both of these guys if anything throw the flat Zack Wilson said not today okay find Corners to drive on it okay keeps his base the base is good he's playing on his toes look I'm not saying this guy's going to be a starter somewhere but I do think he's earned the right to be the backup because I love the way he's playing right now he's playing with a lot of energy a lot of passion okay love to see it next play right here snug formation again under Center a naked route to the right over route love this and I love actually love the where he threw the football okay so you have a you have a big time Corner route you have a down flat you have a slide route and you have an over route so you're really checking the corner really never throw it you're going to go slide to the over Shawn pyton uses uses his athletic ability to get outside and uh makes a play right there love the fact that he actually held this guy up because he sees this dude falling off that's why it throws a little bit behind them don't hate it understands hey I don't want to run you into a car accident which means they're Crossing and then just a fullback in the flat they always forget to cover this dude two outside you're hot this guy should have the fullback this is why it is wide open cuz no one see what we got trips Bunch formation it's a widened out Bunch Shawn Payton is so specific about splits this is a numbers split this might be my favorite throw all day it's just a dig route call it Hammerhead okay you have this little Juke route right here A through route right there and a dagger route right there you have a a deep like Stop Route and a flat you want to work this first cover two okay which it's not it's quarters it's manto man half field safety right there quarters over here half field over here love this route concept I love the fact that he he stopped him look how deep this backer is getting there's a there's a hole to to hit it in you don't always have to throw these daggers on the Move watch his pocket presence though and watch his eyes more importantly we'll get back from the back view of it he's looking this way like he's going to throw this to try and lure underneath Defenders this way it's almost nolish so good we're going to break it down from both back end views okay they go to this quarter quarter half 1 two 3 four five look at his eyes his eyes are this way he's going to throw this way this just tells me he understands the offense look at that everything is telling me he's thr this way he's manipulating the second level of the defense this is what I'm talking about good quarterback play right here from Zach Wilson love that he sets them or he stops him a little bit in that hole you don't always have to keep running into a headache all right let's see the view from right here awesome job one two 3 four five look at that oh we got to call that illegal hands to the face look at that look at the eyes the eyes are going this way and he's throwing this way is this no look love it next play right here second and seven tight splits everyone's in in tight see this oh I like this progression right here it's h choice and a y Whip or it's F Choice okay Corner route a choice he can break out he can break in he can sit you have this stick and in we call it a whip route and a go you're just reading it one if it's cover two this can become an alert to two to three on this wide this is the play okay F Choice y whip let's see let's talk about Michael Bandy in the slot I would have liked to see him break out it's single high Zone though and with single high Zone you want to start your eyes this way it's exactly what he does he goes through the progression and by starting his eyes this way he moves this hook curl Defender that way for room for this whip route to the Y you got to have an accurate throw right here and a tight window right on his body allows him to move the chains for about 15 yards simple Play Day One play the way he's able to read this okay keep your eyes downfield for one step get over here for the choice route to Michael Bandy this not only lets you see if this is open but also holds this hook curl for this whip route to come right there exactly what happens another great read by Zach Wilson see from this view too why not okay just make makes sure this Defender goes this way looks over there he knows at single high Zone the probability of a choice route coming open in single high zone is not very good look at all this space right there progress move on love it his feet are tied with his eyes I love it next play right here trips Bunch just a nice throw dragon it's really slant spacing so it's just a slant route come over the ball right there you got a five way four-way right there okay just throw it it's just playing football really good job with his eyes his eyes are what tells the whole story in my opinion like this look at his eyes let's go to the back view watch his eyes his eyes are going to look this way just to make sure no one goes over to the left watch it four to his side overload it there's no one over here got to see what the safety does his eyes are staring at this backer in this safet he's seeing both of these guys and all he's doing is saying hey can I throw this slant in there oh absolutely because this backer is just moving back look at this huge space for this slant route he does does not need a lot of room to throw the football and that's what I like about Zach Wilson if not he'd progress to this spacing then into that spacing and then to the halfback it doesn't need a lot of room to throw the football next play Third and six see what we got throw it throw it it's open this is one of the the the the more bad plays that I saw okay you have an out route five yards you have a shallow cross you have a corner and you have a choice route okay you're really going to read this shallow cross to your choice see in front of your throw make sure that this shallow cross takes this linebacker he does that's open throw it to him windows are tighter down in the Red Zone throw it to him just toss he's going to get smoked who cares can't take a sack right here thought this was one of his worst plays of the game game look he took four sacks I think three sacks that's points right there I like this play call Corner shallow cross there's going to be a window right here let's see from this view where he can throw the football just throw it you know don't overthink it he knows it understand that Bandy has this mic would like to see this back speed up just a little bit get his eyes around a little bit sooner I understand this just just throw it right on him this is open in the National Football League all right fumbled too lucky he uh held on to that last play right here oh no we got two more we got two more all right trips Bunch formation look at this throw looks to me just to be like double go got the middle read got the go ball okay you're into the boundary I love that he put this into the boundary because they're in cover two they're deep in the safeties a saf has to take Bandy throw the outside guy let's watch his eyes look he's looking at the inside guy this safety right here is facing This Way Corner does a poor job there's no threat to him in the flat so good really could have taken any of these guys all these guys are open if I'm being completely honest with you so good call by Shawn Payton right there Davis webs pumped they're excited oh get into the End Zone though let's see this view see his uh his eyes that's a pocket right there take your pick got to make the throw look how easily he does that too whippy I like it next play touchdown same play they got him again with it look how fast Michael Bandy looks oh my God go outside too by the way if it's cover two go outside okay you got this post route you're one to two thought he was a little late on this throw though a little bit sooner these Corners need to get some depth this is really really bad by these Corners get some depth this guy whiffs touchdown Zach look I think he thre three total touchdowns or something he has three total touchdowns he had a quarterback sneak throw it now look at him looking at the safety love it okay just got to let this one go let's see this view right here I don't know how this DB doesn't pick this one off that's unbelievable Zach Wilson though got to love it thought he played really well can continue to improve
