THAT'S AT THE HEART OF THIS ISSUE. ABC 10 NEWS REPORTER ADAM CAMPUS JOINS US LIVE FROM NEAR THE PLANT. WERE 10'S OF MILLIONS OF DOLLARS ARE GOING TO POUR IN TO FIX THIS? IT'S JUST A MATTER NOW. ADAM, OF TIME. >> HEY, GOOD MORNING CHAIR. THAT'S RIGHT. THE LAWMAKERS ACTUALLY JUST FINISHED UP THE TOUR RIGHT NOW AND THAT JUST A GABLE TO GIVE THEM CHANCE HERE AT THE WASTEWATER PLANT TO SEE WHAT THOSE REPAIRS ARE GOING TO BE, WHERE IT'S GOING TO BE HAPPENING IN JUST TO TALK MORE ABOUT HOW IT'S ALL GOING HAPPEN HAPPEN. JUST LAST WEDNESDAY, THE IVY WC ANNOUNCED A 42 MILLION DOLLAR CONTRACT FOR THE REPAIRS AND REDESIGN OF THE WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT. THE GOAL, THESE REPAIRS TO DOUBLE ITS CAPACITY WHILE KEEPING THE PLANT RUNNING. NOW, THIS IS JUST ONE PART OF WHAT'S EXPECTED TO BE A MULTIPHASE PROJECT. THE GOAL OF THIS PHASE 4, IT IS TO BE A PROGRESSIVE FIX, MEANING THAT WHILE THEY'RE DESIGNING THE ADDITION TO THE PLAN, THEY CAN ALSO BEGIN REPAIRS. NOW, THOSE ARE BEARS. THEY'RE EXPECTING TO START CONSTRUCTION THIS FALL. NOW EARLIER YOU HEARD FROM MY BWC COMMISSIONER MARYELLEN. HE MAD TALK ABOUT MEXICO'S INVOLVEMENT. EARLIER I SPOKE HER AGAIN AND SHE TELLS ME THAT ON THE U.S. SIDE, THE IWC IS HOPING TO OPEN THE HOLLISTER PUMP STATION IN THE NEXT 2 WEEKS TO HELP EASE SOME OF THE SNOW ON TOP OF WHAT THEY'RE DOING HERE. BUT THE CRUCIAL PART IN ACTUALLY ELIMINATING THE SMELL IS MEXICO'S COMMITMENT TO THE PROJECT. >> WE HAD HOPED BECAUSE OF ALL OF THE WORK THAT MEXICO D HOPEH DONE. >> AT THIS POINT, BUT MEXICO SYSTEMS, A FRAGILE SYSTEM. SO IF SOMETHING GETS FIXED, WE'RE READY TO GO. SOMETHING SYSTEMEL BREAKS. BUT HOPEFULLY AS TIME PROGRESSES, IT WILL GET BETTER. >> AND WITH THAT TIME HE NETS AS THE CURRENTLY HAS ABOUT 40% 144 MILLION DOLLAR INVESTMENT TO THIS PROJECT. SHE SAYS A PART OF HER TEAM'S EFFORTS TO GET RID OF THE SMELL IS BY MEETING WITH MEXICAN OFFICIALS WEEKLY TO STAY UPDATED WITH THEIR PROGRESS. AS FOR THE SMELL, HE NEVER EMPHASIZE THAT Z THEY'RE HOPING TO BE ABLE TO E REOPEN BEACHES BY NEXT YEAR BY NEXT SUMMER AND TO TRY TO ELIMINATE THIS KNOW AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. AND ALSO CONGRESSMAN OR OF VARGAS. HE ALSO IS SAYING THAT HE'S PUTTING PRESSURE ON MEXICAN OFFICIALS TO ACTUALLY ADDRESS THIS AS HE SAID THAT THERE'S WORRIES ABOUT THEIR PEOPLE ALSO HAVING TO DEAL WITH THE SMELL. ABSO HE IS ALSO PUTTING PRESSURE. BUT AGAIN, ALL OF THIS TO GET RID OF THE SMELL. IT'S GOING TO BE DEPENDENT ON WHAT MEXICO DOES IN THEIR COMMITMENT TO
