[Music] coming up on FYI the young par Olympians representing Great Britain in Paris why is it important to spot fake news and what do these cool cats have in common but first what would you say if your school decided to replace your teacher with AI well reports we've seen suggest that is exactly what's going to happen at a school in London from September peoples will apparently swap teachers and textbooks for computers running AI powered software but is this fake news or fact find out later in the show now the paranics kickoff in just a few days time and once again the eyes of the world will be on Paris as the city welcomes the finest par athletes on Earth the games will feature 549 events taking place across 11 packed days of competition Britain's par Olympics GB team have some really exciting medal hopes and recently I went to meet one of [Music] them meets Iona winr not only is she a two times European champion and a British record holder but she's also been selected to represent Great Britain at the Paro Olympics not bad for someone who's just 13 years old y you heard that right Iona is just 13 and that makes her the youngest British athlete at the par Olympics aona it's been great watching your train when did you get into swimming uh well when my brothers started Shing here I was sitting here watching them and like one of my old brothers has my same disabilities I like I just want to do what he does going my disability is hyper graer it's form of dwars there's over 200 types dwars my type is basically short legs short arms and then we also have problems with our back how does it feel to not only break a British record and win two European titles but to also be selected for the par Olympics it's pretty cool like a year ago I wouldn't have been calling myself Alan and to Gish record at was quite amazing what are you most looking forward to about Paris 2024 The Village probably just being around the team brand new pool love a brand new pool and like just the atmosphere Iona has to train 2 hours a day 5 days a week but that's what it takes if she wants to emulate her hero Ellie Simmons one of the most famous par Olympians in the world she was a real Idol to me like going to Beijing at 13 saying it to me I've always been a fan of her I've met her a few times she really started to be like inspiration for people with short stature the par Olympics have a classification system that ensures Fair competition by grouping athletes with similar levels of physical ability so they compete on an even playing field growing up have you ever faced challenges or difficulties because of your disability like I've generally always been very small in my class being able to reach stuff was quite challenging and then like walking a lot was very TI on my legs and like people bully me people not understanding people with short sat is there any advice that you would give to people in similar situations don't give up like stand up to yourself you're not alone you're just born differently and you should be proud of that [Music] best of luck ayona and she isn't the only young athlete representing Great Britain Yara went to meet a 14-year-old table tennis player who's also on the hunt for a medal in [Music] Paris wow check her out that's blly to me playing not only is she one of the youngest members of the par Olympics GB at the age of just 14 but she's also Rising quickly at an international level and she only started playing table tennis 3 years ago how does it feel I mean being picked for the par Olympics is a big deal yeah it just feels amazing I was there with my mom and I was like jumping up and down and I was just really happy I'm really happy to go to the par Olympics and tennis and I'm really proud to be here B has cereal py and competes alongside other athletes with physical disabilities which can include cereal py amputations or other disabilities that affect their movement so affects me a lot just cuz I can't do stuff that other children can do like I can I can't walk a lot I need help brush my teeth and stuff and I think table tennis is a great sport for just because it's not a lot of movement it's more mentally and I just love table tennis for that so how was Table Tennis adapted for people who have disabilities in the par Olympics you can serve out your playing hand and that's what I do normal table tennis you hold the ball like you hold it like that and then your other hand you ch it up but because I can't really do that so I hold it up with three fingers so then I could toss it up and also my movement is limited so I have to like only do little side step instead of massive side step she's so young and to see the players that she's beaten to see how she's progressed it's incredible we're so so proud of her looking at the progress that she's made I think the the future looks very bright what are you looking forward to the most about the par Olympics I'm forward for the atmosphere and looking forward to how everything's going to be I'm excited for the par Olympic Village as well that's going to be good it's been so cool meeting BL and she clearly has an incredible Talent I'm really looking forward to watching her compete in the Paris 2024 par Olympic Games thanks Siara now if you're a cat lover this next story is definitely for you the finalists in The National Cat Awards 2024 have been announced run by the charity cats protection the annual Awards celebrate Fabulous Felines who've achieved fantastic Feats and built brilliant bonds with their owners amongst the 11 finalists are Sila who was adopted by a school in warshire and loves helping peoples if they get upset or anxious and Lily who helps our family by comforting three-year-old H who has epilepsy to find out how to vote for the cat you think should be the overall winner head to first. news/ FYI and what about this amazing animal story una Cameron recently set a world record when she successfully sheared an incredible 517 sheep in 9 hours that's almost one sheep every minute una took only four breaks and the event organizer said she used the same amount of energy as running two marathons back to back wow this summer the UK riots were a huge news story but many felt they were being whipped up by fake stories posted online the government is so concerned they've said schools must start teaching pupils how to spot fake news I've been investigating what happened and how you can tell if the news you're watching or reading is [Music] real fake news what is fake news and why do people spread it well sometimes it could just be someone playing about with AI software to create an image that might go viral like this one a supposed lock monster being captured almost a hundred years ago in Scotland some people thought it was real but it's fake or it could be something more Sinister like these fake photos of flowers that look like kittens dodgy websites were claiming to sell these so-called cat eye Dazzle seeds to scam people out of money and sometimes fake news can be more dangerous some people use misinformation to spread confusion and fear to win political power or to do harm to other people recently the spread of fake news led to some really scary events the news of a knife attack at summer dance class in the English town of Southport which tragically resulted in the death of three girls left everyone in shock but sadly some people use the tragedy as an excuse to cause more violence across the country false information about the attacker was quickly spread online he was incorrectly labeled a Muslim immigrant Asylum seeker and illegal migrant the claim seem to spark violent riots by a group of people with extreme views on immigration many of the riers support What's called the far right and are against people settling in Britain if they weren't born here across the country mosques and hotels housing Asylum Seekers were targeted police officers were injured and police cars were set on fire hundreds of people who took part in the riot including those who were spreading hateful messages online were arrested by police with many facing time in prison so why is there this hostility towards migrants and Asylum Seekers Dr chrish Candia runs a charity that helps support refugees who have fled danger or war in their countries and are now living in the UK this is a small group of people that have been whipped up by misinformation they've read online to cause chaos and violence particularly against people who have moved to the UK they are often targeting People based on the color of their skin and that's called racism and we have to oppose that but they're also blaming migration for some of the problems that our country is facing right now whether that's a lack of housing whether it's long NHS waiting list or whether it's just the cost of living crisis and that's really unfair to blame this group when actually everybody from all sorts of backgrounds across the UK are facing the same struggles we've been looking into the facts about refugees and Asylum Seekers at the end of last year there were 44 million refugees and Asylum Seekers worldwide who had to flee their countries because of war or the threat of violence many of them are children asylum Seekers become refugees when a different country legally grants them the right to stay in that country more than seven out of every 10 refugees come from just five countries they places hit by war and violence like Syria Afghanistan and South Sudan and most recently Ukraine and then extreme poverty has driven millions of people out of Venezuela most refugees end up in the countries right next to where they came from so how many people have led to the UK well at the end of last year it's thought there were 586 ,800 Asylum Seekers and refugees currently in the UK and many of them have been here for years that's less than 1% of the UK's population in 2023 there was 67,341 applications for Refugee status the majority came from Asia and in particular Afghanistan which has seen terrible conflict in recent years and what about other misinformation far right groups might spread about refugees like there aren't enough jobs or houses to go around in the UK well the majority of Asylum Seekers aren't actually allowed to work until they get their Refugee status and Britain very much relies on workers not born here for example one in five workers in the NHS are foreign Nationals there is a massive shortage of homes in the UK but that's because of a lack of house building in the past the new labor government has pledged to build 1 and A2 million houses over the next 5 years this isn't specifically a refugee problem in response to the riots thousands of people took to the streets to support migrant families and refugees and to show that racism won't be tolerated in their communities they think refugees should be made welcome here and given our support to rebuild their lives today misleading information can travel around the world in just a click of a button so always ask yourself if the story sounds SS believable and whether there's solid proof to back up what's been said if you see a claim online either about refugees or something else and it seems a bit fishy one thing is to work out where the information came from if it's on Sky News or other respected news platforms then you can probably trust it but if the story's been put out by an organization or a person you don't know then it would be sensible to double check what they're saying remember things aren't all always as they seem [Music] online and speaking of fake news what did you make of the story that a school in London is replacing teachers with AI well it's fact peoples at David game college in London will learn subjects such as English maths and science via an interactive computer system their head teacher has called it a Quantum Leap in education [Music] well that's all we have time for today best of luck to all the par Olympics GB athletes who are headed off to Paris including BL and Iona bye
