2024 VMAs Recap: Taylor Swift, Chappell Roan, Sabrina Carpenter, Katy Perry stole the show

intro I got to be honest with you that was one of the best VMA shows that I've ever seen seriously like in a world of inner world where streaming has taken over the digital landscape what's up guys welcome back to my channel I'm Lauren if you're new here and it's late I'm hyped up I'm tired but I'm hyped up like there was just something about tonight anyone else while you were watching I couldn't I couldn't peel my eyes away from the screen I don't know if it was because of the changes is did you notice that they didn't really announce all of the awards on stage which at the time I was like this is ridiculous look at how many awards Taylor switches won and I have no idea Hy won an award a bunch of other people won awards and we didn't know and then by the end of the night I was like wait this was great they they made more space for live performances there was like an air of like inclusion at the VMAs tonight like I just feel like there was so many artists that like I loved and I was very excited to see Chapel rone Eminem Anita and then there was like a bunch of artists that I'd never heard of before my friend Ki was making fun of me hardcore because I had never heard of Lisa um I had heard of the name Benson Boon because he opened for Taylor Swift in the UK my Discord had to um call me out on that because I didn't know but oh my word who is this hot man in a glitter Romper doing backflips off a piano it was a wild night you guys I just really wanted to turn the camera on I kept going back and forth of like should I wait till the morning but no here I am I just wanted to quickly go over some of my thoughts of the evening because it was a really fun night what did you guys think I feel like theast past like 10 years I feel like everyone's just so hard and critical on the Oscars the emys the the VM the Grammys everyone's like oh it sucks award show sucks and it's like yes it is a little bit different but like when we were when I was younger there was no social media the VMAs the Grammys the Oscars like that's how we saw and got to connect with our favorite artist artist s Superstars actors celebrities tonight I kind of felt like we got a little bit of air of that I don't know I will say it started off weird because I hosted a lovely watch party on my patreon that was so fun you guys thank you to everyone who joined we had such a great time I was shocked though cuz I there was no e live from the red carpet I was weirded out by that but again something else I noticed cuz there was only just one MTV VMA pre-show they were doing performances in the pre-show did did you notice that they were doing performances and they were handing out Awards during the pre-show I don't know I have a lot of thoughts I don't have a script I'm just going to go over my little crazy bullet points that I took during the show but hey hi hello I'm Lauren I like to cover all things pop culture lots of Taylor Swift and everything in the like Taylor Swift Cinematic things that you want to know pop culture anyways let's Eminem’s performance was an iconic start start at the beginning this really was one of the best VMA shows that I've seen in years I don't know what happened I don't know if they got a new showrunner and they were just trying to like go hard in the paint for their 40th anniversary of the VMAs which is pretty cool but they did a lot of Throwbacks to Old School MTV and like the old graphic when music was still on MTV they they did like a lot of Throwbacks to that like Madonna Whitney Houston just it was really great out of all the shows and like the award shows that you're like oh I'll just go watch it on social media the next day just get the Highlights I would go back and watch this one it was great first off Eminem Marshall Ms iconic The Eminem Show is like one of my favorite Al like that was like the first rap album that I ever got into as a young little middle schooler I can wrap probably the entire album Still but Eminem opened up the 2024 VMAs in the most iconic way he performed his newest single Houdini which in case you didn't know is a call back to his iconic iconic 2003 hit without me two trailer park girls go around the outside oh my God it's like it all comes rushing back when I hear those words like I know you know what I mean my favorite part though was that his whole performance the entire thing was a reference to his VMA performance in 2000 where he brought out a bunch of different slim shades on stage and there was a marshall matters and they all had these wigs on and it was just it was iconic especially when they showed it side by side he started in the lobby and then he comes through and he's walking through the crowd and it's like a bunch of slim shadies and it was just man I wish I was in the room that night I have a few friends that were so if you were there in like the pit area or being a seat filler please comment down below because good for you that's so fun what else what else the fact that Megan the stallion hosted oh my God I don't know why I didn't know that going into it love her loved watching her in the pre-show when they handed her an award live there on stage and I just I was so excited when I found out that she was hosting I was like oh my God this girl is going to have so many costume changes so many different dresses and boy did she deliver oh my god when she had that iconic moment with the Britney Spears snake like I'm just playing come get this snake I don't know this snake this snake don't know me oh my [Applause] God they did a really good job you should go back and watch this I'm sure they're going to be playing it the next couple days I just feel like tonight everyone was on their top top performance even like the backup dancers were crushing it did you see the backup dancers in Carol G's performance I don't know there was no left sharks tonight everyone was hitting their marks when Shawn Mendes took the stage my jaw dropped when did he turn into a man is that mean I love him I love sea but like I just feel like he always gave off like teeny bopper little boy Vibes and then he like gave some like hot John Mayor Vibes he's got like some facial hair he was hot I I I think it was a new song I loved hearing it oh my God and that leads me into the whole Shawn Mendes Camila Cabo Sabrina Carpenter love triangle that like has I guess been rumored about and then tonight just kind of was on full display they've got songs written about each other and I'm just like oh well hope you're all happy I don't know what do you guys think of that whole love triangle I feel like I'm I'm on the outs of it because I thought that Sabrina Carpenter was in a love triangle with Olivia Rodrigo and the other guy got my driver's license you're with that blonde girl like Sabrina's hot so I get it I get why she's in why she would be in multiple love triangles Entertainment Tonight reposted a tweet that says Sabrina Carpenter saying about Shawn and Camila Shawn Menda saying about Camila Camila is saying about wanting everyone to leave her to [ __ ] alone which was accurate and Sabrina was making out with an alien G it was just it was a really really good night Sabrina looked so good she is the moment like it's very exciting that we're in this wild time of women in pop women in music not just pop crushing it crushing it so many talented women storming the stage taking all the Awards taking over the night it was awesome it was amazing Taylor’s Swifts outfit won the night speaking of amazing women obviously we have to talk about how Taylor Swift went home with seven moonmen Awards seven which means that Taylor Swift surpassed Beyonce's record of 26 VMA wins as a solo artist Taylor Swift and Beyonce are now tied as the most awarded artists in VMA history with 30 VMAs each iconic she just beat out Beyonce who was not in attendance this evening that I found shocking I really did think that Beyonce's Texas holdom was going to win something but I did think it was interesting that Beyonce didn't show up but I get it I don't know I feel like it's a lot to come to these and I personally would have loved to see a Beyonce moment but we have to obviously talk about how Taylor Swift started the show and ended the show Taylor Swift kicked off The Show by winning best collaboration for fortnite her andos Malone took the stage and oh my God can we just like a moment for Taylor Swift's outfit outfit number one of course it's giving clueless it's giving Alicia Silverstone as if like it just made me so freaking happy like so freaking happy there was someone who pointed out that it's very reputation coded when you look at like her backstage pictures from the rep tour but I don't I don't know we can't be this this cannot be the third VMAs in a row that we clown about rep TV it will come when it comes coming from the biggest clown of all me Taylor Swift just like looked absolutely freaking amazing and honestly I really love that Taylor Swift started the show by addressing the fact that they are all in New York on 9/11 23 years after the awful terrorism attack and before you ask that was not MTV's Choice MTV was originally going going to have the VMAs be on Tuesday September 10th but then the US presidential debate got moved to that day because there was a lot of back and forth between the two of them about dates and where they're going to go they mov the VMAs to Wednesday which happened to be September 11th and I did find it weird that it it wasn't talked about right away but I guess also starting the show off talking about it at first could just be like a negative thing because later on when Carson Dy took the stage and talked about TRL oh my God he was great he was who I would come home to after school every single day I love that he addressed TRL I love that he addressed the twin towers and so we knew that they were going to talk about it at one point but like just I've seen a lot of comments online of like how could they do such a thing it wasn't their first choice but when you like you rent a venue and you do these things and the carpets and the rentals you have to do it like within that time period I don't know found that interesting anyways look at Taylor swits with her seven moonmen this is also in her second outfit change of the night to be real with you when she changed ched into this down bad dress I was like oh this is it she's going on stage she's going on stage she's going to do did you really be me up I wish it didn't happen it didn't happen but I did notice and I bet a lot of other Swifty notices too Taylor Swift was notably absent from a lot of the crowd shots she was there during Katy Perry's video Vanguard recipient oh my God you guys are so much I want to talk to you guys about I actually appreciated the fact that Taylor Swift wasn't in her seat the whole time because remember the last two VMAs we didn't see anyone else I love Taylor Swift don't get me wrong but like she's the biggest thing in the world right now and VMAs is about more than just one artist and it was really fun to see other people dancing in the crowd that we wouldn't normally see because the Taylor cam is always like front and center right in your face and I love that Taylor Swift was in the crowd for certain performances but like I wonder where she was when she wasn't like at the bar getting drinks I don't know I loved it I appreciated it and like I was saying earlier it weirded me out that like we didn't get to see the moment where she won artist of the year but it's like okay if you're a producer or a showrunner at the VMAs where they're like all right Taylor Swift is about to win seven VMAs tonight let's have her open the show and close the show we don't need to have Taylor Swift come on stage seven different times talk about the same exact music video that feels like I'm devaluing her her work and this amazing awards that she got but I'm not you know what I mean like it was so amazing watching Chapel rone first of all perform and then have her moments reading off from her little diary from being Best New Artist I feel like it made the actual awarding of the moonmen and like the speeches it made it more special you know Sabrina Carpenter when she was like high high up swinging on that giant Diamond I was like this girl knows what she I think like Sabrina Carpenter is like the next huge huge thing it's very exciting to watch he knows who who is notably absent was Olivia Rodrigo there wait what Olivia Rodrigo was not at the VMAs oh she's on tour she she's performing in Bangkok Thailand next week okay that's fine that's fair and she was a big deal at the VMA last year but that's interesting I mean speaking of women and pop and and music just taking over the world I would have expected Olivia to be there but I don't even know if she was nominated for things was she she was up for four Awards do you think the producers reach out to sorry my like eyee U it's these lights are killing my eyes if they look super red right now o do you think producers like reach out to them be like hey you should come to this award show because a little birdie told me that you're going to win like do you think they do that I feel like it would make fiscal sense for everyone involved like maybe there's just like a little publicist that's like hey VMA person should I spend the money and tell my client to come and they're like no or yes you should right I don't know I feel like Taylor's been their years when she hasn't won so maybe not whatever scheduling stuff regardless Sabrina was amazing and I love when you can tell people are live on their vocals and then she like made out with an alien was wild um I also love the astronaut backup dancers the backup dancers were just like crushing it did anyone else see that is that just me I also wonder how much these dancers get paid do they get paid well or is it just like resume boosting I mean I know they're getting paid something cuz they're doing like rehearsals dress rehearsals and all of that stuff but it's like I wonder if it's like a good chunk of money or if it's just like slapping on the resume I was the astronaut to the right of suprina carpenter at the VMAs or I was Chapel Ron's Gladiator person to her left like is that I don't know if you're in the dance Community fill me in there were like a couple times that I felt like very old because I was like I don't know who some of these people are I had to Google I had to ask people in my Discord like so cute who is that should I know them why don't I know them so thank you for keeping me young and then Katy Perry’s Video Vanguard Performance the fact that tonight was Katie Perry's video Vanguard recipient award was so amazing I oh my God I couldn't stopped dancing we were just like jumping up and down like you kind of forget this is like I believe pink was the video Vanguard last year and it's like you forget how these these women these people these performers have like made songs that were like the soundtrack to your life for so long for so many years I forgot about so many songs that Katy Perry did well the Dark Horse intro was insane I also love that Orlando Bloom introduced her and then like concluded his her moment too I would like to officially submit my nomination for Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom to host an event anywhere they're on screen they're like chemistry obviously they're married they have a child together but like their chemistry when they talk it's just so cute I did see this this thing earlier on Access Hollywood I'll put it right here and it felt like cringy and like Katie was just like doing the most and Orlando was like ha honey stop stop it but it's like was probably edited that way to make me feel that way that's probably why Access Hollywood posted it I loved it I still think they're cute this performance that she did was the stage she was flying through the air she had like these drone butterflies on her like it was it was iconic it was amazing it was so cool to to be a part of that and then to like hear her go through God what was it can I even remember it was like Dark Horse and then it was Roar and then California Girls ET Teenage Dream I like when I think of Teenage Dream for some reason like I I love that song but I loved it more on Glee I just think of like Darren Chris and Kurt singing Teenage Dream and just that was so good and then of course she did firework I kissed a girl we were waiting for it we were waiting for kiss I kissed a girl that's like really when she came on the scene the fact that she was like flying above the arena and then at the end she said that she performed on the first day of her period And I was like yes yes thank you for highlighting what women have to go through every single day you get your period but we still got to go to work still got to fly you got to be buckled into these strings and Fly Above the stadium just she's just it made me very happy it did especially after all this like really negative press she's been getting for her new album Women's World I'll be honest with you I haven't heard any of it I haven't heard great things I know there's like that controversy that she had Dr Luke be a part of the album but all of that negative nasty iness aside Katy Perry is an icon she just fully deserves the video Vanguard award I don't know what that word means but like it was an amazing performance and you could tell that she was singing live you could hear it in her voice and it was so good if you go back and watch any performance make it make it that one or Chapel rone or Sabrina they were so good everyone was so good I will say I was expecting Snoop Dog to come out for California girls but I get it it's about ktie it is Chappell Roan performance, yells and then Chapel rone uh I don't know why she only did one song I feel like this is Chapel Ron's year and I guess I mean Chapel Ron's been like a around for like a little bit the rise and fall of a Midwest princess was her 2023 album that when it was released was slightly underwhelming on the charts and then like it wasn't until like January 2024 when like Pink Pony Club was just like discovered on Spotify by everybody and she's just like having an amazing year I mean uh there's also a lot of fans in Europe that are pissed that she cancelled all these different shows in order to attend the VMAs and the VMAs rehearsal please share your thoughts with me on that down below I'm actually like working on a video to address that I was kind of unaware of how many shows her and her team have cancelled and I don't really know the reasons of that if they are all related to the bmas or if it's related to her needing bigger venues as she started to blow the F up but a lot of people online were pissed that she canceled her shows I don't know if it was the day of but I I said online that I was like I kind of understand that she really needed to go to the bmas and do this performance because this was like a showstopping performance it really was and I had a couple people in my DMs be like who's that I don't know who that is and I'm like I'm so glad she performed the VMA so now that you are aware of the amazing human that Chapel rone is like here she is memorize her name make sure you say it right because I've been saying it wrong for such a long time it's Chapel like a church chapel rone and then she always says Chapel rone babe you been Chappelle Rowan this is your final warning it's Chapel R babe she's so cute I love her she took home the award for best new artist and it was like it was an emotional speech I got chills all over I do wish that she parted the little dangles that were blocking her eyes slightly but you know what it was very MTV VMAs I love that about the VMAs it's like it's a the the VMAs are very like have fun with your costumes you can be silly you can be sexy you can literally show up you can literally be Lil Kim and show up with like a doily on your nipple and it would be okay and taken is like oh yeah she's going to the VMAs I love that I love that she had many different costume changes throughout the night too I love Chappell Roan yells at photographer that Chapel rone yelled at a photographer because they yelled at her first and then she also had this iconic reasoning why you shut the [ __ ] up not me this quite overwhelming and quite scary um I think for someone who gets um a lot of uh anxiety around people yelling at you it the the carpet is horrifying yeah and I need to I yelled back I Y back you don't get to yell at me like that like good for you girl I'm very excited to watch her rise because she's right all this creepy stuff that people do like following her around like last month people were showing up to her brother's work and her calling her mom and dad's house and leaving packages there and it's just like in what world do you think that that's okay like what do does her brother and mom and dad need to get a security guard too and I swear to God if you say it comes to the territory no it doesn't when you were famous like 10 years ago Tik Tok was not around everyone had phones sure but it just it wasn't what it is today as Taylor would call it Hunters with cell phones it's just it's a different world and I'm proud of her for standing up for herself and she's just like no I've been famous for 1 month you're not going to do that to me good stand up for yourself like every woman should stand up for themselves like I love it amazing example and I think that she's going to have a new album soon I think that that is the vibe that she's giving off with Benson Boone all of her outfit changes um how did I not how was I not super familiar with Benson Boon he's hot he's gorgeous is he gay is he straight I don't know he's a beautiful man in a glitter Romper doing backflips off the the piano and he has that voice I will be honest with you I didn't know who he was and then when I heard him sing his song I go oh I know that song You Beautiful hey like yes obviously I know that song which is we're in a wild time of like Tik Tock choruses going going viral and then not actually knowing who Tyla it is um speaking of viral hits I love that Tyla had another moment in the spotlight for her song water I loved being introduced to her face at the Met Gala because she was the one in the sand of Time dress where she had to be carried up the stairs like a little little Sky Dancer Polly Pocket she's so beautiful she fully deserves that and she has like the greatest personality it's a very exciting time in music Sabrina got a VMA for espresso as she should that song was everywhere everywhere H's performance her little intro was very simple plan AV LaVine esque and I really liked it that was a good performance I appreciated that she's so pretty she's just so stunning Taylor Swift mentions Travis Kelce on stage and then I have to tell you about the scream that I scrimped when Taylor Swift mentioned Travis on stage you guys she didn't do that with Joe for so long she's already posted Travis on her Instagram even like the way that she looks when she's like my boyfriend Travis and then she like looks down all embarrassed and cutie just it's all very very exciting stuff um I got to
