DeVonta Smith SHREDS Patriots + Eagles practice FIGHT erupts & Zack Baun losing starting job?

Intro Sparks might have flown at the Eagles joint practice with the Patriots this week but the bench's clearing was the least exciting part of the day as jayen Herz the bird's offense lit up the Pat defense plus the Eagles defensive line hack the Patriots so much that beat Riders were worried for Drake May oh and Cooper deene is back and the birds might not make another trade I'm Thomas M this is the Thomas M [Music] show every year Eagles Jo practices are Eagles Joint Practice Highlights all about learning like learning a new system or learning new position or how about just learning what you actually have on your football team and what recent history has had the Eagles winning a ton of their joint practices in the past this week's match up versus the New England Patriots in Foxboro might have been the bird's most impressive joint practice to date with both offense and defense absolutely balling out and while short it's the Patriots they have a brand new head coach the number three overall draft pick like they're not necessarily a Super Bowl caliber team still though the Gap after practice between both the birds and the Patriots it's a lot wider than I would have thought let's start Eagles WRs Dominate with the offense though I mean during one-on ones Devonte Smith and AJ Brown they showed exactly why they're still the best one-two punch in the entire National Football League they dominated the Patriots secondary all day long including getting a lot of solid reps against last year's first- round draft pick for the Patriots and Christian Gonzalez Smitty has easily had his best Camp to date and that continued versus the Patriots if not looked even better the route running has gone from really really really good to probably Elite with AJ Brown on the other side I really don't know how defenses are going to try and contain number six and while again the bird's top two receivers have dominated the past couple of weeks like just playing well against the Patriots is nothing new it is fun to see them go up against an opposing secondary versus just their own guys every single day and for what it's worth AJ Brown thought they measured up very very well against New England competed competed at a at a high level um going against another team you want you want to see how how you measure up you know and uh I think we did we did we did well you know it's always stuff we clean up and get better at but uh I think U we moving in the Help Me! right direction okay now quickly I need your help I'm trying to win the Eagles NFL fan of the year and get to go to the of course that's exactly what happened he continued his record-breaking training camp going 24 of 28 versus the Patriots with one touchdown and yet again an interception free day well we didn't get a ton of footage of every single offensive play that's the theme of the Eagles training camp so far the ones we did featured a few more looks at Kell Moore's new offense including how about this quick screen to Dallas Goddard for a very easy touchdown nice blocking up front and then the patented pre- snap motion across the formation which leav saquin Barkley one-on-one with defensive end Matthew judon for a very easy touchdown on the wheel route I mean this right here is exactly why the Eagles brought more in really in the first place right creating mismatches using pre- snap motion getting one-on-one opportunities for your best players against some unfavorable match ups on defense like Barkley on a defensive end is like clubbing baby seal and honestly I think we're to see a lot of plays like this especially featuring saquin Barkley versus defensive ends and linebackers throughout the 2024 season and again getting to see qb1 in the Eagles offense versus a brand new opponent a brand new defense it's always exciting and Jaylen Herz post practice he seemed pretty impressed with what they did during the day it's always helpful it's always helpful it's always helpful to see different looks um when the opposition and opponent throws different things at you and you're able to test different things and um continue continue to grow in those teams I think I'm most excited to to go back and watch some of the tape and just talk through on those things I think the the most important thing in this time right now is just the dialogue that we have about it and continuing to communicate to to be on the same page with everything so I think there are good examples of that I think there are going to be some great conversations for Slay Impressed by QB1 us to goow from now I don't see Herz playing in Thursday's preseason game just because the Eagles will probably have counted this joint practice as sort of a mini game but again he looks absolutely fantastic even to the point that big play slay on his most recent podcast explained just how improved The Bird's number one Play caller has been uh upgraded Jayla skills man and making him a smarter player making him a better player making him making a lot of reads a lot of checks trying to get him the freedom to be one of them super super Elite guys you know he's already Elite player you know but he he's trying to take that EXL to be compared to like the Patra Mahomes and the Lamar and all them guys you know he they got him right under that tier he fa to jump right into that tier this year man I'm looking forward to it because he got a hot cealing man and I know Kell Moore gon be to do a great job with him make sure he put him in great play play call to make him make the right plays and the right decisions so this going to be exciting year now shortly after 11 on 11s Eagles Eagles vs Patriots Fight had their first fight of training camp I guess if you can call it a fight where basically during special team drills Ken gang will did not really appreciate some post whistle physicality from a Patriots player which resulted in both benches clearing and thankfully it didn't get too serious and of course Patriots head coach D Mayo told reporters before practice that if one of his starters gets into a fight that starter must play the entire preseason game on Thursday as punishment and likewise if a patriot backup player going to into a fight then that backup wouldn't be able to play at all during that preseason game now we don't know exactly which patriot player caused the fight or started the fight or if it really was gainwell or not again there no actual footage of the fight overall still though waiting to see if any Patriots are going have to play the preseason game or not play the preseason game but overall pretty pump drop a like down below for the Eagles getting a little bit chippy and being very physical in their joint practice now Reddick Trade Latest before we get to the actual stars of the day aka the birds defense they were absolutely incredible I got to go over the whole Hassan reic Matthew judon trade rumors that have been going crazy on Eagle Twitter the past couple of days which if you've been living under a rock you might not have seen But msan reic requested a trade from the Jets following his trade from the Eagles and subsequent hold out to the Jets being really kind of dumb and not giving him the new contract that he thought he was going to get when he was traded to the Jets this of course resulted in a ton of Eagle fans clamoring for hoe to pull off the trade of the year and bring reick back to Philadelphia which I guess sounds nice although apparently a lot of Eagle fans forgot that reic wants a new contract that's why the Eagles got rid of him the first place are we suddenly to believe that how's going to actually want to pay a 31-year-old passer $25 million when he didn't want to do it a few months ago like this absolutely makes zero sense and the same can go for Matthew judon who reportedly has also had trade inquiries from the Patriots the problem is judon like reic is 31 and wants more money so the birds don't want to pay reic then why would they want to pay the Patriots version of him it goes without saying the Philadelphia already revealed their hand on what they want to do at the pass pressure spot and that is get younger they drafted Nolan Smith they signed Bry tough for pennies on the dollar $17 million to be exact versus what reck wanted at 25 million and Bryce Huff is way way younger so you'll see a lot of people on Twitter saying how we go make the deal bring back us on reic like we got to do this they're not going to unless reic is going to drop all the drama that he's had the past couple of months and say you know what I want to be an eagle I'll play under my current contract then maybe it could happen but the Jets probably wouldn't do that anyway this is not going to happen just get out of your system reic is not going to be an eagle okay now back to the Eagles Dline Dominates birds defense versus New England this was was the real highlight of the day I mean overall this defense dominated it started very very early just with one-on ones how about Nolan Smith bullying his left tackle right here and getting what would have been a sack and then Jaylen Carter in 101's doing Jaylen Carter things versus the Patriots guard heck even Bryce Huff probably had his best day of camp according to all reports as he registered a sack and had a very physical day how about this against the Patriot run and it wouldn't stop there you go over to the actual team period the Patriot quarterbacks got sacked on 10 of 48 drop backs or 20.8 % of the time in fact during one stretch Drake May was sacked on five of his last six dropbacks to end practice with one patch reporter tweeting that he lost count of the amount of sacks generated by the Eagles and while the bird patch fores the first couple of weeks of training camp it's been up and down there's been some nice days there's been some bad days we've question Bryce huff and Nolan Smith this joint practice was the first real coming out party for the eagle defensive line and I know it's the Patriot offensive line they're not necessarily best in the league but if this Eagle defensive line shows up in the regular season all those questions about can we get sacks will Bryce be good what about noan Smith they're going to be put to bed very very quickly I BG Raives about Dline mean even Brandon Graham who had a very nice day was very quick to sing the Praises of the entire defensive line when asked about it after practice uh you know what the the dline is who I'm looking at all the time so you know interior guys like 9098 uh you know uh Milton today in one on ones he was doing it today um I mean of course sweaty and huff uh you going to get their best and you know I'm just looking to see what um see how everything jailed today when uh coach put it on the film and see you know what we did right what we did wrong Trotter Jr Winning LB Battle? oh and also the linebackers I know we're wondering about this linebacker battle that's Brewing they had another great dig as well Jeremiah trer Jr had an interception Zack Bon had an interception and niobe Dean was making a bunch of plays and registered a couple of sacks now trer Jr is the Highlight here he like he just can't stop making plays on defense and we're starting to wonder if Zack Bon's starting job that's been pretty secure might not be as secure as we thought it's definitely getting momentum either way though BG's comments on the junior axemen after the Patriots practice was promising to say the least he he going to work hard I mean one thing I will say you know that that hammer is real for real that that that uh celebration I see him every day this boy come to work uh I mean you can already tell that just from what he do during the offseason with his dad but I just know that uh for him I was happy to see him get an interception happy to see everything starting to slow down a little bit oh and speaking of rookies Cooper Dee you probably saw this on Twitter he was back at practice he had his pads on as well although not a full participant had some light individual drills he obviously won't play on Thursday preseason game but I expect him to kind of ramp things up the next couple of days and get next week during training camp and I think he a real chance to play in the bird's final preseason game a little over a week and a half from now next Saturday versus the Vikings again it's just one day of joint practices just like every single day we put a giant asterisk on it's training camp there's only so many things to go ahead and take away from but Philadelphia dominated the Patriots and that is always going to be a very very good sign in case you're wondering I am back for my little mini vacation myself my dad my grandpa we went to Alaska to go fishing on the keenai river and we had an absolutely incredible time we destroyed the salmon up there scky pink salmon silver salmon seen some video right here at one point we caught at least 40 salmon in a span of about 20 minutes and it was double hookups triple hookups it was an absolute blast shout out to Chadwick Charters they're the ones we went out with on the keenai river if you're ever going to go up there they did an incredible job our captain Aaron and Andrew as well were fantastic but overall a great trip to Alaska we're back though and ready to
