[Music] Studios hello I'm Marin and I'm the movie monster like a category 5 hurricane stirring in the Caribbean Seas the rings of power season 2 is forming twisting the lore of tolken into a destructive force that is coming for us all no matter what we may do to try and avoid it the first season of rings of power was an unmitigated disaster the single season of this one streaming show had a budget that was more than all three of Peter Jackson's Masterpiece films combined and it was pure unadulterated dog water it was despised by tolken fans with only 37% of the initial audience sticking around from the premiere to the finale now a lot of that had to do with the fact that it was a clumsily written dumpster that pushed hacky social and political agendas while desecrating the established law set down from the single most prolific fantasy writer of all time but a lot of it also had to do with the lead into the show the diverse cast of activist haors droned on Non-Stop about how this show was going to change the world for the better and save lives through the power of diversity every interview was basically an attack on tolken and his fans saying finally people can see themselves in Lord of the Rings and all that jazz which is Hollywood for listen we got nothing and we got to make sure that when people talk bad about this we can deflect by calling them racist and sexist so all of that led to disaster in fact it's the biggest streaming disaster of all time but a season 2 was always going to happen after all this was the vanity project of one of the world's richest men Jeff Bezos and the studio paid over a billion dollars to acquire even The Limited rights that they got so what do they do to promote season 2 well the diverse cast of activist Haas is droning on nonstop about how show is going to change the world for the better and save lives through the power of diversity yep they literally can't help themselves and they've learned nothing from their past failure the same tactics that spelled the destruction of season 1 are making a big comeback for season two and we're going to talk about it today on Tony Town TV so here we have an article basically a Fluff piece but but when you look deep down into it you find little nuggets like this it's a genre that was closed to me before says British actor Sophie namet who plays dwarf princess daa diesa who diesa nuts no I'm kidding uh growing up there was nobody that looked like me in front and center of fantasy I have a four-year-old daughter she was watching a Disney program the other day and she said Mama I wish I was white because then I would look like this character but what was so fantastic about this time which is not what my mother was able to do is that I was able to go but you can be this character let me show you these 10 other examples the importance of it is Monumental okay I'm going to press X to doubt here and take things that never happened for a thousand Alex this story is beyond fake and if it's a real story then shame on you as a mother because your message should be it doesn't matter what you look like we can all be heroes you want to talk about we all talk about how beauty isn't skin deep and I'm pretty sure that this actress is one of those people that says that a lot because everything about her is all body positivity and blah blah blah and never mind the fact that her heart's probably in trouble but you know all of this is you can be whatever you want to be your skin color doesn't matter so what she did instead was she said to a little girl in the in the you know the false reality with this is a real story she said to this little girl oh no you're right you're not white so you can't be this character but you can be like these other characters that look just like you because race is the only thing that matters not like hey no you can be like Princess Anna because you love your family and you're honest and you're brave no it's no you have to be like Princess Tiana because she looks like you and now they say when the rings of Po's cast was announced a racist backlash followed which led to the cast being deluged with threats harassment and abuse it was really hard says n it was a little bit of the shock because I had skipped into the role with excitement and naively didn't expect it okay no you all expected it you corded it you were counting on it because the things that idiots said to you were racist and sexist and homophobic these are the things that you guys cling to and use as your Shield to to deflect any kind of actual criticism to get dogwater show uh the vitri all became so extreme that Elijah Wood Sean Aston Billy Boyd and Dominic Monahan who played the hobbits and Peter Jackson's Trilogy banded together for a campaign called you are all welcome here there was also a statement from the rings of power cast themselves which stated that a world has never been all white fantasy has never been all white Middle Earth is not all white bipo belong in Middle Earth and they are here to stay the attacks came in drove says namet but I am honored to be in the battlefield I wear those scars with pride can can we relax please acting like you're Rosa pox or that you're getting actual rocks thrown at you some some idiots said some really harsh things to you on social media but then you got paid very very well to do the thing that you did can we stop pretending like you're in the middle of the civil rights movement no one cares that you're black no one cares that you're a woman all they care about about is the fact that you're a dwarf and they wanted a good Lord of the Ring show and you didn't give it to them because instead of talking about the Lord of the Ring show and respecting token's law and and telling a decent story you filled the entirety of of of the the time before season one by talking about how groundbreaking you were you talked about how you were the first female dwarf which by the way you're not and you spoke about yourself as though you were some kind of pioneer some kind of hero you're not you are an adult Pretender standing in front of a camera pretending to be in a world that doesn't exist exist and you're talking about it like like you're a civil rights hero stop it did some people say stupid racist things I'm sure they did some people are stupid and racist but that doesn't mean that you get to attack all the fans and shield your stupid horrible show from any and all logical criticism you've made the show about race so don't get upset when people comment on the race of the characters in the show McKay and Payne the two hacks that are the showrunners of this are reluctant to be drawn into negativity the internet does breed some toxic Behavior says pain we're not going to justify it with a response that's all you've done all you've done is respond to people that's your entire marketing plan is you responding to hate with more Hate by attacking the fans by saying they're all terrible people uh the kind this kind of definitive shutdown is not uncommon for the showrunners they're friendly and polite but they are not pushovers yeah okay these guys I don't know what they did to get this job they had absolutely no major writing credits they had JJ Abrams disciples and then all of a sudden they're given the keys to the most expensive television show ever created what the hell happened uh at one point I asked about the involvement of Amazon CEO and tolken obsessive Jeff Bezos good Lord if he's obsessed with tolken and this is the show that he allowed to air then shame on him because he truly doesn't understand tolken uh according to Brad's uh according to Brad Stone's 2021 book Amazon Unbound the billionaire has a pension from micro managing Amazon TV projects he's even said to have 12 rules that every successful TV show should follow including a heroic protagonist who experiences growth and change well then this one was a swing and a miss because there was not one single heroic protagonist and no one experienced any growth or change throughout this ridiculous Foss of a show uh we will not comment on any input or feedback from Jeff bezo says McKay oh good lord God forbid you actually say something interesting as though reading a pre-prepared statement this entire interview is a pre-prepared statement it's a shill article from the shill media it's a puff piece we can only say that we're very lucky that he's a fan of it th uh this inadvertently conscious of the image of Bezos tapping away in the writer's room okay I say trying to clarify what's being said so does that mean he's not involved creatively you've got to ask him replies McKay oh good lord it's a moment which speaks to a laric question concerning the rings of power one themed around big budgets and big expectations the show is officially Amazon Prime video's most watched original series I would like to see the numbers on that because I call uh Bull on that as they're going to say here The Hollywood Reporter claimed that only 37% of American viewers who started season one reached its finale we I would assume that The Marvelous Mrs masel kept most of its audience because it was a good show which by the way was female LED had issues of race surrounding it and spoke to sexuality in certain times but nobody can because the show was good it was Charming it was funny it had hot it had Humanity it spoke to Universal truths about family and and responsibility and Parenthood and and so much that that show gets an enthusiastic Mar the movie monster recommend in response Amazon Prime video head Jennifer sulki another JJ Abrams disciple said this desire to paint the show as anything less than a success is not reflective of any conversations I'm having internally yeah of course no one wants to talk to you about how you show bomb because you're the boss uh before adding that season 1 naturally required a lot of setup season two will be when the rings of power really sawes yeah that is the key to success bore everyone to tears with a pandering season one and then just hope they stick around because season two is when you're really going to hit your stride come on you have to you you have to I know this show got two seasons right out the gate but you always have to write like your first book your first season of TV your first movie it's going to be the only one you have to tell a complete story and if you didn't then shame on you but then again these are things that experienced writers would know and nobody involved in this show is apparently an experienced writer Peter Jackson off to help and and his phone calls were never actually returned onset today there's an understandable reluctance to talk about numbers yeah one does not speak of a rope in the house of the hanged either uh data is on am data is Amazon's side says producer lindsy Weber creative is our side before eding that we've never felt the pressure of data at any point I seriously doubt that I seriously doubt Jeff Bezos isn't knocking on the door and being like hey we spent a billion dollars on this and nobody watched it I'm pretty sure that merits a conversation at some point but McKay does concur with su's assessment of season one's inherent challenges the first season was always going to be about the heroes and bringing the audience back to Middle Earth he says season two is about the villains the chessboard has been set the game is now a foot oh my goodness yeah this is not how you write a show you don't just hope that they all come back for season two and that's when you start your storytelling season one should not just be a big setup it's not a prologue it's a season of television it was eight entire episodes what are you people doing why does no one on this set understand basic concepts of Storytelling and you you're adapting the work of the most prolific Storyteller to ever live this show irks the crap out of me the rest of this article is nothing but putrid uh fluff garbage this was the only this is the only portion that was actually worth pulling out and talking about but guys this show I can't believe they're doing this again that they're attacking the fans they're blaming the fans they're talking about race they're talking about gender like stop it it doesn't work it d drives people away we you saw it with your first season the acolyte just got a heaping helping or what that's like and I and it's not the fact that you've already filmed it so you can't do it they're doing these interviews now they're doing it now in an environment where we know that this is toxic speech that's going to basically be poison to any television show and they're doing it and they're doing it proudly and loudly and it has to stop focus on telling your story focus on transporting us to a world in which we can forget about this terrible world that we live in stop focusing on things like race because all that does is further divide us and Silo us as a society into little groups that never cooperate unless that's you know what you're going for when I was a kid we used to talk about the future like it was going to be this utopic Society where we were all going to come together as a Melting Pot we were going to be one people one human race uh you know for humans I'm a monster but we were all gonna we were all going to join together as one and be citizens of the planet Earth together what happened to that and so folks what do you think happened to that and also comment below are was able to relate to characters like Buffy the Vampire Slayer black panther Zena Eddie Winslow Mulan The Fresh Prince and plenty of others because they spoke to everyone they didn't speak specifically to women a people of color they spoke to us all through very human stories that centered around things like heroism family the value of hard work and the challenges that we all face growing up and becoming the people that we were meant to be and above all else being a good person and these are Universal truths that could be displayed by any character whether they're white black male female straight gay or a felt puppet frog with pingpong balls for eyes and a 7ft tall yellow canary and that's not me saying every character needs to be a white straight male or an orange monster far from it I'm saying that fictional characters should just be who they are without the actors in studios having to do a whole song and dance about the importance of someone's race in other words as a great man once said how about we focus not on the color of someone's skin but on the content of their character you can present this same cast in a show that's well written and speaks to actual human issues the kind of universal truths that we can all get behind and it would be great unfortunately the creative team behind this show has no vision no imagination and clearly no idea what it means to be selfless Brave hardworking or kind and it shows in the Bland cardboard cutout characters they created for the rings of power so when you got nothing else to bank on when you have no Universal message that can inspire a diverse audience of human beings you do things like make up fake stor stories about kids seeing someone who looks like them and suddenly getting inspired by it
