Thunderstorms leave some without power in Kansas, Missouri

ALERT WEATHER. WELL, MANY OF US SAW THUNDERSTORMS MOVE THROUGH ON THIS IMPACT DAY. HERE IS A TIME LAPSE FROM OUR SKY CAMERA AS STORMS DUMPED RAIN ON THE PLAZA. WE'RE ALSO SEEING DAMAGE AFTER SEVERAL TREES FELL DOWN IN KANSAS CITY. A TREE FELL ONTO A HOME IN A NEIGHBORHOOD NORTH OF THE RIVER. IT HIT THE EDGE OF THIS HOME NEAR NORTH BRIARCLIFF AND NORTHWEST SAGAMORE. A NEIGHBOR SAYS TWO PEOPLE WERE INSIDE WHEN THIS HAPPENED. THEY ARE OKAY. FIREFIGHTERS BELIEVE IT WAS A LIGHTNING STRIKE THAT CAUSED THIS TREE TO COME DOWN. HERE ARE LIVE PICTURES ABOUT TWO BLOCKS UP THE ROAD. AND YOU CAN SEE THE DAMAGE HERE. WOW, THAT TREE HERE BLOCKING TRAFFIC NEAR NORTH BRIARCLIFF LANE. AND HERE'S A LOOK AT THE STORM CLOUDS FROM THE KANSAS SIDE. MICKEY BRAY TOOK THIS PHOTO FROM LANSING. YOU CAN SEE ALL OF THIS IS WHY WE ISSUE THOSE FIRST ALERT WEATHER IMPACT DAYS. CHIEF METEOROLOGIST BRYAN BUSBY AND PINEVILLE TONIGHT. AND BRIAN, I STILL SEE THINGS ON THE RADAR RIGHT NOW. STILL THERE AND STILL SOME LIGHTNING STRIKES OUT THERE. NOT MANY MORE SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNINGS. SO THE WINDS AREN'T AS STRONG AS THEY WERE EARLIER. WITH 60 MILE AN HOUR WIND GUSTS. BUT IF THAT TREE CAME DOWN BECAUSE OF LIGHTNING, THAT'S WHAT MAKES THE THUNDERSTORM A THUNDERSTORM. AND RIGHT NOW THE HEAVIEST IS STILL ARCING TO THE NORTH TOWARDS SAINT JOSEPH, MORE SO THAN THE KANSAS CITY METRO. MOST OF THESE THUNDERSTORMS ARE STILL GOING TO BE LASTING FOR A LITTLE BIT LONGER. AS I ZOOM IT IN THERE. YOU SEE SAINT JOE, THERE YOU SEE STEWARTSVILLE, AND THIS IS STILL A LINE THAT'S STILL TRYING TO MOVE SLOWLY, SLUGGISHLY, WHICH IS CAUSING SOME HEAVIER DOWNPOURS. AND THAT'S ALSO LEADING TO SOME PONDING ON THE ROADS. SO WE DO HAVE THE LIGHTNING STILL GOING ON, AND WE DO HAVE PROBABLY MORE OF THE RAIN THAT'S GOING TO CONTINUE. NOT MUCH IN THE WAY OF ADDITIONAL SAY, HAIL REPORTS, BUT STILL SOME HEAVY, TORRENTIAL RAIN. AND THE OTHER PROBLEM, I THINK IS ONCE THIS STUFF MOVES OUT, WE'LL SEE A LITTLE BIT OF FOG DEVELOPING BECAUSE SOME. AREAS REALLY GOT DOUSED WITH QUITE A BIT OF HEAVY RAIN TO THE TUNE OF AN INCH OR TWO. OTHERWISE, WE'RE STARTING TO CLEAR OUT FROM THE RAIN, FROM SOUTH TO NORTH AND LOOKING FARTHER SOUTH. REALLY NOT MUCH. IT'S PRETTY MUCH HIT AND MISS AND STAYING TO THE NORTH OF THE 435 LOOP FOR THE MOST PART. SO WHAT WE'RE TALKING ABOUT IS WE'RE PLANNING AHEAD OVERNIGHT. STILL SOME SCATTERED STORMS ENDING SOON. FOG IS A POSSIBILITY. THEN ANOTHER CHANCE OF MORE WIDESPREAD RAIN AND THUNDERSTORMS. THAT'S WHAT'S GOING TO USHER IN THE BIG CHANGES IN THE TEMPERATURE. BE MUCH MORE COMFORTABLE HEADING INTO THE HOLIDAY WEEKEND. THOSE DETAILS COMING UP, AND SOME PEOPLE ARE STILL WITHOUT POWER RIGHT NOW.
