TexAgs Radio LIVE: FRI, AUG. 23 feat. Billy Liucci, David Nuño, Olin Buchanan, Reggie McNeal & more!

e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e you know what I love sports love sports sports sports sports sports sports sports sports sports want to comes to Texas A&M where are you getting this information let me tell you welcome to texags I need to talk a little sports with you a David newor here with texags radio Billy Luchi here on texags radio Olan UK Canan we will develop men we will graduate players and we will win championships on the field the best way for us to win is to do it together do you realize everybody knows who you are right now there thank for the 12th man they've won US game been in college baseball for a while now but I've never experienced anything like 12th man that's about as pretty a throw catch combo as there is I saw the safety rooll the slot fade I knew where I needed to put the ball our skill set worked great together like he was more speed and I was more power and then he put together it was like thunder and lightning you know you know if I'm betting on anybody it's the yies well hello everyone and welcome into Tech sags radio presented by David Garner Jeweler's r Insurance Studio the go presented by the warehouse at CC Creations two guys in a little room doing a show it's texags we are uh doing some stuff downstairs so we decided to take the show upstairs yeah my old office before I got banished to the closet this your your old office is the hottest office in the building yes yes and and in the winter it's the coldest one well uh too bad I hear myself three times anyway um we got a couple things to get into this morning that I wanted to start off the show with and one of those is my only hesitation when it comes to A&M's football season okay so today I'm looking at a bunch of stuff out there that somebody has A&M almost making the playoffs we'll get into some of that in a little bit somebody has is going seven and five and I don't agree with that here's what I think okay as I hey David hey I believe the only hesitation I have on the season I can't the only hesitation I have on the season is getting it right before the season starts okay so I think it takes time for a team to kind of develop its identity um understand a coach's philosophy so if I were to have a hesitation on the 10 wins the nine wins my thing is you've got two very tough matchups in the first three weeks of the season right and that's where I have a little hesitation I have a little hesit there because will they be the finished they won't be the finished product I think they're going to be their finished product come November right as they play even maybe when they get to LSU mid October early on if I were going to have a hesitation it's just that they haven't figured it all out the new system um and actually played against teams to kind of gear up for a Notre Dame to gear up to go on the road against the Florida yeah um yeah in a perfect situation I think You' be playing MCN this week and then Notre Dame next week but you're not and I've seen them come out in in uh season openers and you know shock everybody like in 2014 when they opened up at South Carolina and South Carolina was ranked I think nth eth maybe and they just wore them out and won that one uh but to your point that was the third year of a of a team but you had a new quarterback but it was your third team in third year in the program um I think my reason for for pause for concern is it's A&M's history it's the history the recent history of underachieving and not re not not playing up to your potential and and I think that this team has tremendous potential I still think there's outstanding players on the roster I think it's it's at least a nine- win roster probably 10- win roster but um is it going to be the team that's going to play like it is it going to be the team that's going to be coached like it are they going to be able to get into the fourth quarter of close games and make the winning plays which you haven't done in the last you know three seasons yeah um couple things that I first off I 100% agree with you it's because our history but I also think and you I know you think this too it's unfair to give this group others mistakes right right but back to being an Aggie you got to prove it to us right you got to prove it to us that you're not going to be the same you know good one year bad two years like or semi bad two years we've got to see um this group of players figure it out but it's not fair to hold them back for what has happened in the past absolutely I am cautiously optimistic uh like what I've seen from Mike Elco and his staff I've seen a lot of a lot lot of hard coaching going on without you know uh uh just a a a monsoon of expletives you know just actual teaching going on and uh I think they're were more efficient and I think they were just more organized and I think that will or should translate into you know winning some tough games um the games that you were had a chance to win the last few years and let get away but I've got to I have learned we all should have learned not to just take anything for granted you had the number one recruiting class in the country Twi twice you were ranked sixth in the nation to start the year and had extremely disappointing years you can't take anything for granted here until you can take something for granted so that's I I like the roster I do do I wish it was yeah do I wish an is and Adrian Cooper still here of course but every team loses guys I wish Mike Evans was still here to yeah every every team loses the guys over in up in Notre Dame wish jagas Shaw hadn't gotten hurt right every team loses guys so uh yeah you look at all those things I I think that A&M has a really talented roster yeah I think they have better coaches but A&M has to and and maybe those better coaches are going to put them in a better chance to make the plays that uh are the difference between winning and losing but I have to see it yeah and I think we're going to see some of it this year right and by some of it I think we can see it next you know this next week I'm with you on on Notre Dame I I'm I'm really overly optimistic or not even it's not cautiously optimistic I think we're going to win and I think it's going to be convincing um you know when I talked I talked yesterday to a Notre Dame Insider he G he he was actually really good he gave props to to A&M No Doubt he thinks their defensive Line's going to be really good he thinks their wide receiver group's going to be good and he says that um their secondary is if not the best in the N 100% agree but can you run on them I think Le'Veon m is going to be able to run on them I think Amari D is going to be able to run on them if the line especially the left side of the line which is I think it's going to be Stellar um can establish uh the ground game well and they're going to have to do it against a a a good Notre Dame defense right um I I have no doubt that Notre Dame is going to have a strong defense and you know there's going to be some uh some field position play going on and hopefully when you get a chance to score that means you close it out with a touchdown if not you make the field goal because I don't think there's going to be tons of scoring opportunities and all that said uh I think A&M has a bigger Advantage with its defensive line against Notre Dame's offensive line than Notre Dame has with its defensive line against A&M's offensive line and I'm I'm I'm I'm curious of why uh the folks up in South Bend think their receiving group is going to be elite yeah it wasn't last year they got new guys and they're excited about them I guess the guy from Florida International MH um by the way on the YouTube page WD says well this is a downer start of Friday while true just to kick in the right out the gate what what what's what's true what part uh I guess saying that uh A&M had in the last what tell like you said truth the last three years A&M hasn't uh the A&M has just flat underachieved there's no other way to put it we a we ask we bring up the question or the the feeling that maybe it's going to be different with a new coaching staff and I did say I think they got a 10- win uh roster I'm just saying until they I I don't I don't I don't know if that should be taken as a downer those those are the facts and maybe the new coaching staff that's why he's here to to do the things and to instill in this team the ability to make those key plays that you didn't make um last year and the year before and the year before that cotton hold Holdings yes long drive to to talk it wasn't that long but about an hour yeah a little more a little more than an hour yeah what did we find out uh we found out that the cotton Holdings is going to uh we don't know how much but they're sponsoring the lar lone star showdown Showdown yeah which is going to be a competition you know in all throughout all sports between Texas and Texas a&n but really what everybody cares about is football and I know that's kind of my opic but it's true because they kept talking about hey the game's back the game's back um and it is and that's what's exciting about it uh we found out that that uh perhaps in the future the the Texas Texas A&M game because I always say the best for last is uh maybe be played on a Friday I feel like it's going to be play Alberts is open to that because he wants to get the best uh TV window Friday night though right yeah and he says it's best for the State of Texas I'm like well I guess so unless you're a high school team that's playoffs Friday night or Saturday Saturday I would all I think you know I'm a traditionalist kind of guy and Saturday's a a football day a football day now you can say well you're a traditionist guy but you don't want the game played on Thanksgiving I have other traditions on Thanksgiving I like too but yeah I think uh I think uh Friday should be for high schools and Saturday should be for uh colleges even though I'm well aware that the high schools in the playoffs often play on Saturdays yeah I uh so growing up it was a tradition to watch the Aggies on Thanksgiving day for us like that's what we did yeah uh I prefer that as a fan as a work worker you know I would like to you know not necessarily work on that day but that's all right you can you can break bread with your family anytime uh maybe not uh I think uh look I like having my Thanksgiving just for my family um but if they play on Thanksgiving you of course I'm going to be there and looking forward to the game but I like the game plan played on Saturday and I always thought it was ridiculous when they played the game against LSU on Thanksgiving because it's one thing when you're at asking the other fan base whether it be A&M going there or Texas coming here to to drive 90 miles it's other thing when you're saying hey you got to give up for 300 miles yeah no no doubt about that hey if you want to be a part of the conversation this morning you can do it multiple ways our number is just joining the show they're asking why are David and Olan sitting so close to each other well because we're good friends so the beauty of texags is we can do shows I mean I've done shows from a CD hotel room in New York for the NIT yeah I've done it from a dark hotel room in Seattle to watch my daughter play soccer M um we've done it from a awesome Studio downstairs yeah at some point in the Miami Miami hotel room yeah we should do that one again we should just test the line there uh we've done shows from an awesome Studio downstairs in the next 10 years we might do a show from a even different studio and we have this upstairs Studio that sometimes we like to use for some of our n nil interviews or Texas aies United interviews and also just when the show's going on it gives us a different place so we're doing some work downstairs so we brought the show upstairs so that's why it's two guys in a little closet we're mobile we can go anywhere we will go anywhere we will go anywhere and we're not Divas like we're not going to complain about hearing ourselves twice we're not going to complain about being we might a little bit but when the show is on the show is on so yeah so you know if you want to like you mentioned Miami if some Aggie Club wants us to travel there and do the show you know we're open to it let's be honest how come nobody's flying us to do the show from somewhere like come on guys muster I mean guo I've been waiting for you buddy to send us I mean come on all right um let's uh show will travel let's say hi to the Nick Savage I think we'll be able to hear Nick Savage Nick good morning buddy how are you doing good morning yeah I'm uh I'm going to try to multitask and cut down on the feedback to y'all so good morning how are y'all well very well I'm well I I I I think I sounded a bit like a diva this morning and I apologize uh Nick I just you know I heard myself a couple times and I was a little warm but you know I know you you're you're taking care of us I'm trying my best yeah and I understand I tested it out yesterday it was kind of annoying but you know David you're talking about where have you done the shows from and all that stuff you know you think you're going to do maybe any more live shows is that is that a possibility oh I'm going live I'm going real live okay you know what we mean but when we say that yeah I do it means you're not dead this is true let's hope let's hope it wouldn't be much of a show people are asking what does that mean does that mean a new studio no they don't know anything really what I mean they don't know anything sorry go ahead it's just fine they don't know anything but yeah I'm good back to y'all that was short and sweet short and sweet no jokes uh we're not going to go to the social center right now and live oh yeah of course we will go to social Center at some point McKinley palansky will join us uh here for around agilan a little bit later all right uh let's see we still got a few minutes in this segment let's do this because usually my timing is a little off in the in the new studio 247 ranking every quarterback in the power four ahead of the college football 2024 season from 1 to 68 OB if I were to ask ask you do you think uh Conor is going to be in the in the mix there 1 to 68 yeah yeah he's going to be in the mix somewhere yeah he's actually in the in the top 10 he they didn't put him in an order right like they this is the first group the second group uh I'll read you a little bit what about what they say about Conor wigman at Texas A&M ended his 24 season in disappointing fashion after a foot injury in four games he threw eight touchdowns compared to two picks he looked like a future St at the position he's got the timing he's got the anticipation he's He's Got The Touch the zip on the football a healthy wigman in 2024 could mean big things for the agie offense yeah uh Conor wigman look you ever heard the uh the phrase if you have your health you have everything yeah well if you have a uh Conor wigman you have everything you want from a quarterback because he has a big strong arm he will uh test you downfield yeah uh he can run when he needs to he's smart he's mobile he uh uh can he accurate um yeah I don't know what you want from a quarterback that you don't have when he's healthy well I don't want you to say too much more about Connor cuz we might we might we might talk about him next when we do 24 and 24 brought to you by FBS suppliance we might talk about him we might talk about somebody else there might be like a wild card player that we have not you know that we didn't think about that like boom number one all right well I look forward to that then we hit a Break by the way this coffee talk Insurance Studio go hour presented by the warehouse at CC Creations David Nuno only be Canon here on Friday August 23rd 2024 and it be my friend our favorite segment I don't know if it's I think it's a very popular segment 24 and 24 our last day of it number one brought to you by FBS Appliance who are committed to delivering an exceptional experience from start to finish you can trust them to provide unparalleled service and support every step of the way because FBS Appliance is your trusted appliance store visit any other eight showrooms across Texas or find them online at factory Builder stores.com I do want to mention this because uh a engineering 12 did say that this office is awesome it is a it's sharp this monitor behind this it is a sharp looking office yeah I know it was oh I forgot that's right so this is where you were yeah this is the office that I had I thought you were there no I was here and got okay Logan was there ah and then now I'm in the broom closet well you know we we love you regardless number one on the list uh Olen we touched on him a moment ago his name is Conor wigman love him yeah I'm a big fan look I he may be the biggest kept secret in college football I know the people that really follow college football like the the the list that you just referenced know about him but I think uh nationally he's probably still got a stealth quality to him because uh of his injuries he hadn't been able his injury not injuries he hadn't had be able to play a lot but when he's when he's healthy games he started and finished uh he's been spectacular I I've talked about this if you look at the games he started and finished or seven of them and if you take the averages that he compiled in those games understanding that he did that as a freshman in one game uh in a Jimbo's offense and one of the in one game with horrific weather against UMass but if you take all those things together he still and and you take the averages of those seven games and then project it over a 13 game schedule because I think they're at least going to be in a bow game you're looking at a guy throwing for over 3,000 yards with more than 30 touchdowns and just three interceptions well what take that now but I think that may be conservative I think you uh look at Conor wigman and you start saying hey um 3500 yards 35 touchdowns you know th those are the kind of things that this kid's capable of and there's just plus he can run so there's just not a lot of uh a lot of quarterbacks that can do the things that that Conor can do the only question is the people around him and I think they've got maybe better people around him than you think and uh I'm expecting a big big year out of Conor wigman and that'll probably translate to a pretty good year for Texas A&M so he's often compared to the those other quarterbacks from that class U Kate kumnick at Clemson he's better than Kate he's better than Kate and Quinn Ur who's been really good Quinn Ur has been very good uh but I believe in homerism when healthy he's been better than those guys uh or you know I don't as as good um and I 16 and two is fantastic yeah yeah he's again he and and playing you know teams like LSU which I don't know maybe I shouldn't bring up LSU it's not like they've been uh they've had their def of late but he still had played games in the SEC and he's and not the big 12 he needs to win some big games right like well A&M needs to win some big games absolutely right he will help them do that and if they win big games he will be looked upon differently uh you know and we talked about that big win they had over LSU uh in 2022 uh he only threw for like 150 yards but he had two touchdowns and he had a and and he scrambled effect effectively he didn't go out and run for 50 yards or anything that's the game he connected with moose on that moose in the in the end zone with the perfectly pass uh Place ball and he also you might remember he had a touchdown pass to Donovan Green where he's under pressure when he held the ball held the ball to the last minute and then delivered a perfect throw for a touchdown so uh but but he ran effectively as well so again I think I think C wigman's the whole package of quarterback what strikes me about him is when the temperature gets hot he gets cool like there's a calmness to him right like that exact example you're talking about like that's kind of like a what am I going to do yeah he just all right I'm going to wait I see it I'm going to deliver the strike he's what you want in a quarterback I'm completely sold on him and uh uh I I just think that there are those out there in college football that that that watch college football that just don't know what A&M has yet at quarterback well Pro Football Focus by the way shout out to uh the crew in the back that put together our our packet today Pro Football Focus says uh Connor is on their list of breakout candidates for 2024 was considered to be under pressure on 55 drawbacks a dropbacks excuse me in 2023 which was 41% of all his throws the highest in the SEC well see and yet he was still putting up really good numbers that's look at the game against Notre Dame I'm Notre I'm sorry Miami last year every play he's always he's constantly Under Pressure I remember theot touchdown he threw to Crown he wasn't sa uh I remember the the touchdown passing through the uh crownover where he was under pressure and then puts it out there and it's just a perfectly thrown ball um and quite frankly had his receivers uh helped him out a little bit you know he would have had even better numbers I you know you know there's this one play that still sticks to my crawl from that Miami game I know which one I do Conor did what he was supposed to do receiver didn't here's some stats from last year 82 of 119 979 yards 68.9% completion percentage eight touchdowns two picks 56.8 passer rating is that good that's very good okay 87.5 qbr is that good I think it is yeah 12 carry 63 yards two touchdowns is that good that that ain't bad that ain't bad for your quarterback right especially because you know they're going to put sack totals in there too how about his Kyle Field stats you want to hear those yeah let's hear them 51 of 66 good yeah 643 yards 77.3% completion percentage 77.3 six touchdowns zero interceptions a 189 passer rating and does that include the uh the UMass game when when the weather was so bad this is 23 so no just 23 but 22 you want to hear 22 I'll give you 22 22 22 896 yards passing 55.3% completion percentage at Kyle Field eight touchdowns there you go yeah yeah and and again this is all abbreviated think of what he and he did this in a in a bad offense with uh and a lot of that as a in 2022 as a as a true freshman just giving better help around him as he grows as a junior uh playing in a better offense and imagine the numbers that he could put up over 13 14 15 dare I say 16 Game season keep them healthy guys keep in and I do later on when we do Bank on it I want to bank on some stuff you're going to be like of course you're banking on that but I'm banking on that line being significantly I'll Bank on something different but right now I'm banking on that line protecting him more than we've seen the last the whatever quarterback the last three years yeah I uh I'm I'm agreeing with you on that one did you know the difference is real it is real yeah the difference with Conor Wiman is real but you know what there's other differences that are real too is Jason and Jackson R are they kind of like Conor wigman when it comes to well they're probably uh they've done it longer even more proven proven yeah so they were like 20 years ago or however long it they were like Conor wigman they were about to break out and now they have broken out so you know when I challenge people to basketball I've done that before or people have actually they've challenged my ability so I go prove it one guy that I'm never going to go play basketball against yeah is Jackson R he played at a high level um I I feel like he practiced with A&M for a little bit too I feel that's part of the story like he like legit can hoop so I'm never going to play basketball against him but I will allow him to handle my insurance needs okay yeah well uh they're probably even better at Insurance than basketball they're fantastic 53 53 offices in the great state of Texas they're all over the place their headquarters though is on Highway 6 here in College Station they'll take care of you in Houston Dallas East warehouse at CC Creations maroon never looks so good with maroon you OB look buddy one thing we we know food yes we know food in different ways yes you you have a we have a different relationship with yeah you have a more romantic no no I think you have the more romantic okay yeah I I serin it's it's wholesome yeah it's it's a real relationship I care about like but I eat a lot you act like I don't but I think I but you're careful with what you eat sure you know my relationship with food is more like a toddy Affair it's like it's it's dirty it's it's uh it's all the your basic instin It's on Showtime you're Sharon Stone and Michael Douglas that's who you are yeah my Basic Instinct is eat as much food as can you close your legs as I as I like anyway um the reason we say that is people know that we know food in different ways yeah so we've been recruited right yeah we're we're like we're like Josh P being recruited by the gas stations but barbecue joints have been recruiting us because they know that we know food right yeah yeah know RP RI tips I Lov them we know mac and cheese yeah buddy especially you buddy at your wheelhouse no I'm usually sweet with food with macaroni and cheese I'm not sweet yeah it is more it is it is yeah it's what you do right yeah yeah don't say it because I I can see a thought coming I won't so we're going to drop a hint because we have found our new place we've been corded for months now right for months people like come David let me give you free food I'm like no no free food okay free food right but the place that we have decided to go to I double paid our our new place our our well our new barbecue place it's a place that I sampled before I'm like oh bro this is like a different level and then I took you to lunch there and it was it it too much in fact I took some home and then it was in the refrigerator and my wife got home that night and she ate it and she W and and she just raved about how good it was so we're not going to tell you who it is and I was planning to come home and eat it well sometimes you better go fast she beat me to the refrigerator so here's here's the thing we're just going to give a hint at what we're gonna talk but we're not gonna say what it is okay if you guys want to guess by by the way there's really good barbecue joints driving distance from us they're all great yeah this one we just found it to Be A Cut Above the Rest yes it uh man what's the hint I don't know I mean I don't know it's so hard to come up with a hint you know it I'll just say it's worth the drive but it's not far well it's not far but you might think like oh but it's not four literally seven eight minutes from here 10 I would think that uh I'm not going to walk there but I'm going to drive there yeah I would think that even if I was like living out in Austin I would drive all the way there you know I might I might even you know coming for a game day yeah I mean you know I might stop at the uh at at the cemetery and Snook and do some business yeah yeah you think our forefathers would like this place yeah I think all four of my fathers would you my mother was married four times I mean all four of them would everybody would like this it yeah uh give me barbecue or give me death since we're talking about our forefathers so that's the hit you're going to get that's it all right that's all I'm going to say yeah you know that's all you have to say yeah I could say more though I could the man those ribs I love ribs those that brisket was man that was Top Shelf the macaroni and cheese the macaroni is bro legit like I would have used it as a hot tub and just laid in that macaroni in queso it was so good anyway Philip yes you're correct somebody just texted the show but I'm not going to say it but I'm not going to say it don't have to say it I don't have to say it we'll say it eventually we we spent way too much time so but thank you to our our new beloved barbecue joint that's not far away thank you guys um you you guys are the best JD pel you familiar with him hey you've seen him JD pel that sounds familiar on three oh yeah yeah yeah kind of a stout strong guy hair he's got great hair he he's got the hair from the Remember the Titans kind of like that kind of here he's really good he's uh got a couple Clips there he talks about A&M's key is to stopping okay okay Notre Dame mm so here's the we're just going to play little Snippets because I want you guys to go support JD but here's a little snippet about A&M how they can attack Notre Dame all right for A&M are you able to set the tempo with the Run game and this isn't just the cliche take of ah whoever wins the line of scrimmage wins the game sure that's probably a way that you could phrase this but I think more more importantly like can you move the ball in the trenches with a levian moss and a EJ Smith and help Connor Wegman get acclimated and then also can you try and take resources away from that Notre Dame Secondary cuz like to be honest y'all I think Notre Dame Secondary is the best secondary in America not named Ohio State Benjamin Morrison Xavier Watts going to make a lot of money at the next level if you can run the football effectively guess what you do you have to add in more numbers if you're Notre Dame to defend really good thoughts there um I think Le'Veon moss and Amari Daniels can set a tone against Notre Dame what I hope happens is exactly what he said there that you established such a good running game against them that it does open up the pass later uh yeah you know I think you always want to run the football if you can and uh the fact of the matter is A&M has some good receivers but nobody that is that that we know of is a great receiver yeah uh I'm still going to not go in there scared to throw the football uh Conor's so accurate but yeah I think if you establish the run everything gets easier and whether or not they can establish run we'll see but uh I know uh I think there's a good chance that they're going to be better I I I know uh uh Reed Adams was talking to us last week and he's he's extremely confident in his ability to run block yeah and I'm feeling good about a Chase bantes back where he's supposed to be a year older a year bigger a year stronger and I've always felt good about uh uh try zon so you know we'll see about the other interior line spots but um I other teams had did move the football on Notre Dame it's not like they shut down everybody they played last year well now let's talk about um how A&M well how Notre Dame could attack the A&M defense if you were to say something you worry about with Riley Leonard it would be his legs right uh yeah I mean I don't he had the ankle surgery in I think March maybe April uh so I don't know how if he's 100% or not um yeah I would I would think the thing I'd worry about most uh if he's out there you figure he's he's ready to play so if I was a notre damean and I worry most uh is are you going to be able to keep Riley Leonard upright well here's JDP on JD pel on Riley Leonard and that running game and in the perfect world for Notre Dame quarterback has a chance to knife up field or if that Defender whether it's a linebacker or safety is rolled up and tries to take away the Run dump it off to a playmaker let's get North and South let's have a first down keep this party rolling if you're Texas A&M that just that can't be the way that you lose this game it can't I the most important thing here to give you like my take on this do you have an answer for the triple option and not just do you have an answer for the modern triple option once or twice or early in the game I'm talking about like throughout the course of the game can you find a way to take that away think about that um I think if you win at the line of scrimmage you can take away the triple option I think if you win at the line of scrimmage you can take away a lot of things yeah what I worry about is over Pursuit from the ends and allowing Riley Leonard to get away like that's what I worry about more than the triple option those breakdown plays that Jackson Dart killed A&M two years ago with um that's what I that's what worries me about him you know I I know they're different with with Riley Leonard than they were with with Sam Hartman and yet last year they were talking about Sam Hartman being a Heisman guy yeah so are they really that much better um I think A&M has speed at linebacker yep um Riley lonard is going to make plays he's a good quarterback it's saw him Duke um yes there's all kinds of things to bring up are are they going to be able to do this Mike elco's a heck of a coach Jay baitman I I understand is a heck of a coach A&M has a heck of a defensive line and a lot more speed on defense I I think uh I think Notre Dame is not going to score a lot of points I'll just put it that way and I don't think they're going to be in the 30s let me read this text from Jerry good morning guys hey I'm a big Aggie fan but until that football team can show me something I'm way behind the baseball team and a lot of other sports that are winning national championships my response to that is there's time to love everybody the same yeah um and I know that's not what you mean Jerry but if you're not going to believe in year one of a new coach right like like but I but I understand your your point because show me something that's what we've been saying Jimbo did show us something until he didn't well he did again I've always say the first three years you couldn't complain uh and then the fourth year where well we thought okay he lost his quarterback so that makes sense but then you know the day they lost to uh to Appalachian State you know it it I guess exposed the emperor was wearing no clothes yeah let's hit a break here shall we yes dude so this is an interesting commentary from figurine champ teasing us with this meat yeah and sides there's sides there yeah a lot of uh I would probably wear my duck Camp gear to this barbecue joint by the way I I just I like to look cool and we're not wearing it right now we should be but um well I'm getting blood work done today and so instead of a long sleeve shirt but by the way you said cool I had on that long sleeve shirt like Co two days ago and uh yeah it's very airy is that the right word ventilated ventilated yeah yeah it does keep you cool it does keep you cool um it is it fits well it's not too tight it's definitely not too loose it just it's a comfortable fit and it looks good it looks like said my son wants them he's trying to confiscate them the hat looks good does the hoodies look good everything looks good there and by the way this is you can use it for fishing use it for camping I the some of the shorts I'm going to the gym in those bad boys in fact I already have like I've been wearing them so the clothing is Fant fantastic uh they fit good they feel good they're super comfortable not your run-of-the-mill baggy boxy fit and I'm telling you if you just like being outdoors you need to be wearing duck Camp gear they're made for people that live for the moments out there where there are fish to catch birds to hunt time to kill and football to watch which I know you watch a lot of football I do watch a lot of football check them out at duck camp.com that's duck camp.com e e e e e e it's my jam right here you like Toby Keith I do I was a fan yeah um it's texx radio we are presented by David Gardner Jeweler auto insurance Studio we got some bills to pay but I do want to answer it's a go out presented by the warehouse at CC Creations I do want to answer a question but uh my screen froze so let me see if I can find it here um Rico says is there a scenario where where'd it go where A&M goes 10 and two and misses out on the playoffs I'm sure there is a scenario there but I'm going to tell you no they make with that schedule with the teams that they would beat at 10 and two they're getting in yeah I would think so I would think a 10 to two SEC team's probably getting in and especially if you're A&M at 10 to two that means you you have wins over a combination you know LSU Missouri Notre Dame Texas you beat two of those four two of those four I think they get you in yeah yeah I I agree time the bank on it presented by Vera Bank authentic relationship based banking built for real life go see Joel Jackson and the team you can learn more at verabank.com OB next week we'll start banking on more like Notre Dame things I'm going to bank on something real big all right okay and it's not that big if you listen to the show you know where I am on this team I am banking on this team being better than we've seen the last three years and I'm going to and I'm not giving you a win total but the win total will be better than we've seen in the last three years okay okay um now that's not going out on the ledge I recognize that but you could be better and go seven and five you could be better you could be better and go eight and four if we're talking about a better football team I'm telling you we're going to be a better football team and the record will reflect that as well we're going to be better than we've seen in the last three years well if that's the case they won they won eight games three years ago so then you're talking about at least nine n wins okay that'd be awesome uh well that wouldn't be awesome that really good really really good yeah you know what we talked about him I'm just banking on Conor wigman this year I think he's going to have a big year I think he's going to throw for over 3,000 yards I think they're going to keep him healthy and uh I think we're going to be talking about Conor wigman as A&M's best quarterback since Johnny Manzel I think this is the year he actually proves it so Eddie and Austin sent us this tweet by Bobby football okay robore Paul small sample side but A&M's Conor wigman has moments where he looks like a potential first round quarter back ability to navigate the pocket handle pressure pops adjusted completion percentage at 78.4 a. 10.1 puts them in the same territory as Beck Jaden Daniels and Caleb Williams yeah so keep him healthy and uh you know unfortunately he doesn't have the he hasn't had the caliber of receivers that Jaden Daniels had right but uh keep him healthy and uh uh you know A&M's going to be able to throw on anybody and I I believe and that includes uh their first opponent Eddie uh provides us average distance of throw a DOT pretty pretty good he doesn't uh Conor doesn't mind throwing the ball downfield Derm do I'm not going to say it is he on to something OB uh yes he's on to something but we're not going to say it yeah we're not going to tell you what it is he probably has four fathers too yeah it's not that hard to figure out like especially if you've been there like yeah if you've been there you yeah D you know you know I had heard about this place before I actually partake partook partook in it yeah before I had partaken I don't know what's that I'd heard of before I at there but you know look I feel like this whole hour has been an advertisement but it's it's a legit thought when somebody over rates a place and you go like it was good but you left you're like dude you were right yeah yeah that was it was it was legit yeah yeah anyway all right guys so um what do you got going on this weekend well I'm going to rest as much as I can because we the grind we work every day for the next what 13 weeks three or four months uh so I'm going to rest as much as I can but I'm going to watch Georgia Tech in Florida State and probably eat some food that I shouldn't eat you know yeah I'm going to probably eat out more than I should because again it's it's going to be that grind you know we really don't slow down at least I won't until uh what April when the basketball team finally gets finished and they finish at the final four take that to the bank but there's nothing better than having football to talk about for what we do and for what our community it is it now I'm looking forward to that one season where we get to talk about good football because I haven't been able to much the last couple of years it's been kind of a grind but I mean when a& was good in 12 and in 13 and then uh even the year um and some other years 2020 enjoyed it the whole way all right thank you OB we'll come back with Bud Elliot next on Tex a e e e e e e it is Tex a we are presented by David Gardner Jewelers here in the r Insurance Studio we are doing our show from our makeshift Studio this week or at least today and potentially another day or so uh as we get the I'll just say remodeling done we're remodeling a little bit so so our next guest is somebody that I wanted to talk to for a long time in fact I get messages on the boards like when are you going to talk to Bud Elliott well we're going to talk to Bud Elliott today from 247 in CBS Sports Cover 3 podcast here on the boss Firearms hotline bud man what's going on on what's going on man just uh just getting ready for college football season looking over all these you know preseason notes and kind of figuring out some of our coverage for the year I'm excited yeah we're we're super excited too and I'm excited for football this weekend how much uh Intrigue or interest do you have in this match up between Florida State and Georgia Tech we've got our former quarterback Haynes King going at it versus dju uh pretty good bit I it's you know kind of the the match up of of the weekend you week zero is kind of a nice little little appetizer for the regular season kicking off U you know I thought Hayes King was pretty effective at times last year I think Tech has a really good offensive coordinator in Buster fauler and they bring back you know quite a bit on defense of a really bad defense but like maybe they'll be better this year I think there's certainly that you know that possibility um Florida State's a very different team this year that they are uh I don't think anywhere near as explosive at receiver as they were at times uh last year but I think it's probably the best offensive line they had like since 2014 so maybe a decade all uh all seven of their their top offensive linemen are 23 years of age or older and they're like finally healthy whereas last year they were pretty banged up and then defensively I was a little surprised by I I knew they were good up front you know I've seen them Pete DL said uh they're the best defensive line in the country period with A&M kind of the only one in the conversation and he expects all four of their defensive lineman to be drafted in the top 100 next year so uh if they play like that they will win in Ireland right uh and and the corner combo is I think very good um probably the only two I would take over in the country as far as you know one two would be like vek and and Ohio State so there's some pieces there but it's going to be like a much more like defense Run game you know physicality type team this year than it is or than it was last year but I do want to move to the SEC and A&M specifically here in a moment but for the ACC are you one that buys Florida State winning it is it a Clemson year even though dabo's kind of taking his his time with evolving with the game if you will or potentially Miami who's added all these guys and we're still waiting for Miami to reach that potential I David I I really have all three of them about even I like I don't want that to sound like a copout answer but I I think myami probably has the highest ceiling if it all really comes together in the right way but also that kind of counts on Mario Chris of all coaching well and to me like when I do my power ratings I start with talent and then I make some coaching related adjustments and I'm sure you can guess which direction that coaching related adjustment for Miami typically comes in so they certainly could win it Clemson could like NC State vatch and Louisville could win it if everything clicks because they have the path to get there especially vek like they could be a surprise you know team to make the playoff if they run like 11 and one you know lose the conference title game type thing or or maybe win it so I think it's kind of wide open When you mention uh teams that may be losing some points for coaching I was wondering if you're talking about the previous staff that was here at Texas A&M because there's always been Talent um I saw you took the over on the eight and a half in Vegas for A&M uh tell us a little bit about your thoughts there yeah I I I I like how the schedule falls for the most part for A&M I I feel like where they get the games and when they get the games uh is generally favorable to the type of team that I'm projecting for the agies this year it's kind of like the conversation we just had FSU right if if they're going to be good it's because the defensive line needs people alive they scr together enough points on offense they you know they punt well they kick well they they play you know sort of smart football execute in the Red Zone um I I like I like a lot of where the games fall uh for them um like I kind of like how they match up against Missouri Missouri's got a lot of turnover on their offensive line and I think A&M you know could probably score a little bit against that defense the the thing I liked better actually than the over for eight and a half uh there were some like plus 350 and plus 325 out there to make the playoff uh you know and I was like well looking at this I I think it's more like a 250 shot so I thought there was some Surplus value there so I ate some of that up and uh yeah I I like this A&M team um and you know like you mentioned I for a long time A&M fans did not want to have me on the air and then you know it it seems like now we kind of agree on on on the last Tire you know it's interesting with Jimbo I thought initially he got a little Flack you know I'm talking about the 21 season after 20 um because his quarterback was injured and the last three years you could say that but it did become apparent he wasn't evolving with the game did you see that early on even after the 20 season yeah I I I mean I had my doubts like I I remember talking to Billy uh you know in 20 whatever year that was 2017 I think it was you know pretty early in the season like like we we had Vibes that something was up um in Tallahassee and and I was like man he is not the same guy that he was as a coach in like 2010 to 2014 like like it's very different in Tallahasse now and you know guy is like really really stubborn you know we knew he had some guys on his coaching staff in Tallahasse at the time uh who were not forward State quality they just weren't and we were proven right almost immediately because he didn't take any of those guys with him to A&M I was like dude those guys are actually good and you're stubbornly saying I don't need to make any changes here take them with you right or like what what are you what are you doing and he took zero right I think or or maybe maybe one try to remember if Coy was on the staff or not at the time um so yeah I just I think he's a really really smart guy but like also managing people and communicating with people is is is an important skill set as well I think doubt about it sorry I didn't mean to cut you off there's a little bit of a the job that El did last year with that staff when Leonard was down and the their backup was down and they had to get like the third Stringer ready to play in that weight game and a couple of those game like I really was impressed mean third string true freshman kid he got him ready they mov the ball like they Elco just kind of finds ways to win and doesn't make excuses I I I like the guy a lot as a coach well but and I'll add to that the the staff overall right like you can have your opinions on Jimbo's previous staff I'm really bullish on staff that coach ELO's put together we know he's a great headman but he's put on some other guys around him to really make this I think offense pop with Colin Klein defensively Jay Batman's an extension of coacho Tommy Moffet strength and conditioning a lot of others as well and I I think baitman is an underrated higher here u in looking at this people want to say like hey he was benefited at army uh because of the tempo that Army plays with and sure on the surface numbers I agree with that but even if you adjust for Tempo like Army play well above its Talent score uh for me and then I don't think that anybody's going to have success running a defense at North Carolina uh because of the lack of physicality at North Carolina I think it's kind of a soft program and also the tempo they run with is is real difficult so I I really don't bang bman for that I think B Batman's a pretty bright guy and I I like that hire a lot I I think the staff that OKO has put together is is really pretty good if I have a question honestly it's uh the the receiver coach Choice was interesting to me I thought B's receiver development over the past three or four years has been horrid and I'm like that maybe he knows something there that I don't know uh but like that's the one that kind of stood out like huh kind of funny but the rest of the staff I love we we've been pretty uh bullish with Holman Wiggins he's a really good recruiter and unfortunately we haven't seen a lot of wide receiver development here ATM the last few years as well so we think it is an upgrade and also oine coach yeah no doubt I I thought the o line coach was a great was a great pickup too so I started the show with this thought if I have any hesitation on A&M this year it's the beginning part of the season because sometimes it takes time to figure the new system out against you know big teams and they're taking on Notre Dame early on they're taking on Florida on the road they haven't won on the road since 2021 when they beat Missouri that's the long that's a long time so how important do you think to their season this first couple of weeks of the Season really uh what what it'll propel them to I I I think it's huge for them if you look at look at the schedule here I mean if you get Texas a if you get Notre Dame in that opener A&M is gonna be favored to make the playoff like that that's how hard it's going to shift because if you can beat Notre Dame I mean at Florida I've been reading Florida's practice reports I'm sure a lot of agie fans have as well and they're doesn't look great so maybe they're not that much better than they were last year I do have them as an improved team but they played pretty poorly at times I like MCN I mean I picked bowling green to win the Mac this year mainly because I think the rest of the Mac has kind of cut like I don't know that bowling Green's amazing I just think Toledo and Miami Ohio have regressed a little bit from where they were last year but that's still a team that you should pretty easily handle uh I haven't read a single good thing about Arkansas's offense so far like other than patrino magic I guess but the scrimmage reports have been uh iffy I guess they do eight picks in the last scrimmage so maybe some work to be done there still I don't know how many plays that is like maybe it's 140 plays so you know it's like a four pick game and a 70 playay game right um and then get Missouri at home like I talked about you know going at Mississippi State off the buy so you get you get the buy to work on that interesting offense they're going to run and you we'll see how much defensive depth Mississippi state has getting off to a fast start is really important I agree with you yeah know talking about Elliott here on techx radio presented by David Gardner Jeweler's r Insurance Studio it is the boss Firearms hotline so let's look at these opening Week Games Beyond zero week let's talk about the the Miami Florida game when you see that game lot like we talked about A&M what it's going to mean for the rest of their season same with both of these programs so I think Miami is the better team but playing in the swamp is is really hard like it just it is like the fans will pack that thing out it'll be sold out there's a renewed hope for you know year three of Billy Napier they return a lot of production on both sides of the ball uh I just don't know how much better Florida is I think Miami is potentially a lot better you know and and who has the coaching Edge in this game I I would normally say Napier but you know Florida last year they they kind of played like dummies a lot to to be frank I mean they were dead last in the country for most of the season in both uh special teams EPA lost due to penalties and then short yardage penalties so in Florida critical situations just false starting not enough men on the field too many men on the field it was uh it was kind of a clown show over there so I think Miami is going to win this game um I I I trust their quarterback cam Ward more than I trust Graham Merz I don't know that Florida's weapons are all that amazing they took a lot of transfers in the uh the offensive line room I will tell you that Florida state is really happy with Richie Leonard who they got from Florida so you know the line from a lot of Florida fans has been they upgraded I I'll believe that when I see it because I I I I think FSU thinks that Leonard has a chance to be a draftable player so if they upgra if they upgraded over a draftable guy good for them I don't know if that squares or some of the practice reports that reading so far Miami like even people who typically are conservative on on Miami predictions you like guys that last year more than at like 8 and four seven and five range they're like all in 11 and one so the stuff they're hearing I think sounds pretty real but I uh I believe in LSU versus USC because I just don't believe in Lincoln Riley that being said LSU has struggled to start off Seasons the last couple years how do you see those someone kind of playing out yeah if I'm an LSU fan I'm kind of like what what are we doing in this transfer portal Market this offseason you know I said this on Twitter and I got some blowback for it but I don't really care like you got four linemen on offense who are probably going to be drafted you think nus me is sneakily like one of the best quarterbacks in the SEC and I do I I've been betting him 60 to1 55 to1 to go first overall because I just I don't really trust some of these early mock drafts you know you you think you got pretty good receivers to replace the two first rounders you lost why the hell are you not all in to to get an extra defense of tackle in the portal like why are you not going out to get another corner like to me that's a that's a Miss by LSU I think their High School recruiting is great I think their portal stuff is bad honestly relative to how good they they are at the high school talent acquisition stuff so um I think LSU's offense will score I think they'll be a little more physical I think they can probably push USC around I mean it's Blake Baker he's a good coach they didn't add much in the portal they lost three linemen to the NFL draft I believe so I don't know man I'm a little skep skeptical that this defense is going to be just magically fixed because of a coaching change you mentioned us there uh we didn't really get to talk about Connor wigman just your thoughts on Connor we when we've seen him playing those eight games he's been brilliant what do you think how that how does that look long term over a season yeah I think his ceiling's really high um I'd like to see I mean he's got to stay healthy obviously right I'm curious as can is A&M gonna run him cuz kleene you know ran the ball with the quarterback a lot both as a player and as a play caller so you know how much different does this A&M offense look because he doesn't look to me like a guy who's going to be a great rusher of the football uh so they're gonna have to probably call it a little bit differently I I heard in Spring he was kind of toughing through some stuff I don't know if that squares to what you guys had heard yeah but they were happy that he he got out there but he didn't look very good so like is he better this fall I I I really haven't read a whole lot that he's like killing it but I don't know that he's had a bad fall I I just I'll be watching an opening game pretty you know pretty closely but he's got some talent I think he looks great this fall from the few practices I've been to Billy's coming back and he's been to uh several their scrimmages uh he looks like the old Conor wigman at least from a Mobility standpoint and we know he's got a little bit of the stature the Swagger in the pocket so I I think he's going to look like the Connor we've seen before we got to obviously see it in in a game time nice man I'm I'm I'm excited about that then uh I want to ask you about something fine bomb said the other day he said that the Alabama Dynasty had ended during the Sabin run not after what what do you think about that because I think he had his best coaching year last year and I know I'm not the only one who thinks that that's interesting um I guess all great coaches eventually see their runs and either because of like some you know like a rule change in the sport that they were previously exploiting and they could no longer do so or uh you know maybe a um various factors right but one of the ways that often times these like legendary coaching Runs run out is you just kind of your connections dry up as far as bringing in assistant coaches you know um I think it's pretty clear that they have a better staff now than they did they did last year overall now granted like losing next sain is a is a pretty big thing to lose but the rest of the staff I I don't think was all that great personally and you know you saw it you saw in tallah has with Bobby Bowen eventually like your your tree is going to kind of run out because you haven't personally worked with these guys at other stops and maybe you're like some of the new guys you're bringing in haven't worked with guys elsewhere and you know at that point you're like you're really relying hard on your agent to suggest guys to you and sometimes those hit and sometimes they don't but I think your hit rate is higher on on guys that you've worked with before so you actually know and you know Nick sustained for so long bringing in guys with whom he really had no connection which is mighty impressive but eventually I think it kind of ran out I think he had some guys on his staff who you know probably weren't the quality that he had on his staff maybe a decade ago uh but I mean the the way they got Bama last year to the SC title and winning it was super impressive so I I do agree like they adapted during the season and would it have sustained like probably not the the nil stuff I don't think B embraced that as early on as as some other schools did and I me clearly like you know Kirby's doing doing his thing in Georgia So eventually it runs out so I'm conflicted when I talk about Texas for obvious reasons but also because of their recent history not last year which obviously Stark was able to hit it but they have in his three years here his numbers are similar to what Jimbo did in his first three seasons at at A&M so when you talk about Texas and the issues in the back field but I think a very manageable SEC schedule uh I'm curious what Michigan's going to look like there in week two when you look at Texas how high are you on them yeah I I uh to me there's like a top two in the sport right now and then everybody is pretty consensus Oregon Texas in some order for 34 which from like an you know a number ranking standpoint sure I I get that uh but I think that like three and four is also really close to like 12 13 14 personally I think there's a lot of clustering at least in my model and it'll it'll start to separate as the season goes on but in the preseason I'm not super confident that that Texas is is you know three with a bullet they could be nine who who knows uh I'm a little concerned about their red zone offense they were poor in the Red Zone last year relative to all of their their other metrics and think about who they lost at receiver think about who they lost at tight end like they got a lot smaller now I mean Balin is 5'8 bond is like 5'11 you know golden is six flat NL from from Bama is smaller than the tight end they lost his name I'm forgetting now to the draft and then you lose your bigger back right in in CJ who I I know he's from Orlando I've seen him play a bunch like are they better in the Red Zone because they like the narrative all offseason is they're gonna be better in the Red Zone most teams don't get better in the Red Zone by having a quarterback who doesn't run losing their big PowerBack and getting a lot smaller at receiver and tight end but that's just my opinion I mean maybe that they can find a way to scheme it up better that's possible but they're going to have to show me on that so like if I'm if I'm playing Texas man I'm not allowing the big Play Over the Top you got to show me that you can you can win in the Red Zone because I I don't know that the Personnel is set up to be better in the red zone and they already struggled last year but how hard is it to evaluate Michigan considering what we know obviously the offense is going to look different Donovan Edwards is back the defense should still be just as salty new regime but similar faces yeah I I think it's um pretty simple in most of their games and the analysis is you can't block them so uh you know for about nine of their 12 games I think that they will not always win comfortably but but wi because the opponent just cannot really handle what they have up front they I think their front is potentially better than it was last year adding Jon Barham from Maryland is not fair like if this was the NBA the commissioner would veto that trade like that that's not that's not allowed on a team that is already that stack the secondary is a little thin so that'll be a spot to watch right like if they start getting injuries there then maybe they're a little more vulnerable but you know offensively that's where I think you really call on the question in the three difficult games they play the you know the Texas game the Oregon game and the Ohio State game can they actually score 20 points can they score 27 if if they need to if something goes a little squirely my guess is they're they're going to run with orgy and run a lot of like spread option type stuff and play super slow again but there's been a lot of Davis Warren chatter to which I asked is that because orgy can't play or do you actually like Warren and if so who are you throwing to I mean I don't know that I love their their receiving options with the exception of the tight end levelin who's he's a stud butd man big fan of your work thanks for making time and uh let's do it again okay enjoyed it see you guys appreciate you but Elliot there on the boss Firearms hotline they provide high quality firearms and components to their civilians law enforcement Thanksgiving it can be your tailgating whatever it may be let chance tell that story the website is your heritage film.com your heritage film.com the phone number is 713 893 8341 again that number 713 893 8341 e e e e e e e e all right we're back here on texags radio we are presented by David Gardner Jewelers r Insurance Studio hour number two of the program and we're going to the angry elephant news and social Center which is right next to me because we're in this makeshift Studio McKinley palansky is with us she joined us just what two days ago two days ago yes sir um what what what brings you to techx I wanted to get experience with sports networking and I thought it'd be a great opportunity to inter in here I'm excited Cypress Texas right yes sir shout out to your cousin Colin Let's uh let's do a little around the SEC cuz you got some tidbits for us right yes yes sir I do the University of Florida announced that their season opening game against Miami has sold out Florida season tickets also sold out making 2024 the most Gator season tickets sold since 2017 that's interesting considering it is a year that Billy Napier may not survive and they're supposed to lose every game ever especially the A&M game that's an interesting thing but props to Gainesville into the the gator what else do you have for us michaa on Tuesday South Carolina officially announced that their starting quarterback in 2024 would be Lenor sers sers played in just three games last season and won the starting job over Auburn transfer Robbie Ashford yeah that was kind of expected Lenor Sanders was expected to be the guy and I've read good stuff about his camp for sure the SEC announced its preseason coaches all SEC first second and third teams yesterday Georgia led the way with 15 selections including nine on offense okay Alabama post Nick Sabin is not far behind with 14 selections and defensive lineman Nick scorton and Shamar Turner were the only two agies to make the list both on the second team defense all right I can I can deal with that I expect Connor to be on on that list when they redo it at the end of the year for sure in a recent interview Conor wigman says that he's 100% ready to go it's been a long time coming and he can't wait to be out there August 31st which is great news yeah look um we've we've talked a lot about Connor today for obvious reasons he's our number one in our 24 and 24 Billy will talk about him here in about a little less than an hour so we'll chitchat with Billy about that but I'm expecting huge things look I would love to have seen what a clean offensive line could have done for Connor what could have done for Haynes what it could have done for for Max and I think our offens line is going to be significantly better this year and Conor is going to be able to put up some big numbers Let's uh let's go to a couple more stories Texan and volleyball kicks off their season on August 30th at South Alabama at the Jaguar Invitational and Texas A&M Athletics and director of Athletics Trev Alberts announces celebration of 50 years of women's Athletics at Texas A&M yeah I saw that uh there there's some couple cool story lines behind that and I know you have some info I believe you Haven it am I seeing that correctly on the uh the press conference that A&M had yesterday no I guess not I I have that information um um cotton Holdings is going to be the proud sponsor oh okay yes yeah okay with the return of one of the oldest and most legendary rivalries in collegate athletics cotton Holdings has officially signed on with Texas A&M Sports properties and Longhorn Sports properties to become the title sponsor good stuff we will uh talk with Bly a little bit about that McKinley great job your first time on the show thank you very much when we come back on techx radio Reggie mcneel our interview with him but before we do that let's talk a little calwell Country Chevrolet Highway 21 in calwell online at calwell there at calwell Country Chevrolet Highway 21 in calwell on online CW country chevrolet.com e e e e e e e all right we're back here on texags radio presented by David gers Jeweler r Insurance studio so yesterday I had the privilege of interviewing Reggie mcneel he was here in studio we're recording some other stuff and I was like let's talk a little ay football shall we and we talked a little bit about his time U Beyond A&M he he gets into his time with the Bengals and some of the issues there and Beyond and uh we talk about coacho and Company he's very high on coacho and very high on Conor wigman here's my interview with Reggie the real deal mcneel one of the best parts of my job is to see people kind of grow up become men fathers and just cool dudes Reggie mcneel's in the house here who I covered I remember when he was in school then I covered him in college and then I blow up his phone all the time Reggie what's up man man same on man we doing good yeah yes sir life life is great and we we stay the road so it's funny um you've been interviewed by everybody right but I don't I don't know if connections right word but I remember when you were here playing and and I covered you in the 04 season yes sir I talk to you every week every week and then when you came to the studio you were like I remember you yes sir yes sir all all the old times man you say it's all that's what we that's what we built did it for back then to day it make it makes everything that much easier so tell me what you're doing cuz I'm kind kind of getting I used to be the guy that people said man you look so young now I feel like I live in College Station I look old right cuz everybody here's 18 you look the same dude your beard is dark your skin is the same like how do you look like you're 22 still when you when you when you deal with the kid type of kids that I deal with my son included they talk talk as much noise and run their mouth as much as they do man so I feel like I got I'm still competing and trying to keep up with and so I I know the day that that as soon as something go out the way cuz I get too skinny and my son like Po you need to go do some curls what I a got time to be in the gym like you fo but but yeah being around them man they keep they keep me very humble just to say the least do your kids realize who you were like watching you I mean obviously the Oklahoma game but just watching the high school highlights like the things do they know or they think they know my son thinks he knows my little girl I'm just poppy to her don't even think it matters but she she kind of gotta she cuz she have a car she put them all you know she do all that in her room but she don't yeah she don't she don't really know or have a real deal you don't know it's it's interesting I was never as cool as you right like I was broadcaster like journalists are never cool but like I told like my kids like they think I'm such a dork and I'm like girl you see me like 50 door like Dad you're not cool like what but you stayed cool man and like I say it's is the kids keep me up up to so I so my first first typ the first kids I started training one is OC and uh Corpus Christian memorial I mean veterans one is coach at forer CD lamb is one okay so that was in jayen Dart I got some kids that I work with that you know a couple in the leag with they all doing H stuff now so those are the dudes I've always so I've always been around youngsters so they keep me up to par on all the music which a lot of and I just can't stand yeah I mean that's just but that's that's what they listening to so I I I get to stay young on the mental side because of them and man my son them be always wan to be and seven I mean seven on seven you think I'm oh yeah I'm around kids all day long I got a we got the radios out there so we got to listen to their music so that's that's pretty much keep me going yeah the rap music ain't the same like it used to be I'm saying uh so we have a bit of content coming out soon I'm not going to tell you what it is but it's going to be really good so I know what we're going to get into in that but I so I want to take it a different place I want to talk about your time in the NFL for a minute and just what you learned and then the CFL as well um going to the Bengals as a wide receiver just the transition your mindset the the guy you play with some dudes right just talk a little bit about that whole experience man this number one is a business is a it is a it is a business and fun times is is kid bunch bunch of grown men with money yeah and everybody is you know you still that I mean you know how we are as men we still clowns and fool around and talk mess with each other so it's don't none of that change but man it's the game game don't change the most the the biggest part of it is the the politics and the business side of it so now it's is just a big business that you're dealing with so some kids myself included you don't you it's it it's not about if you're good enough MH it's the other things and coming so play the game right yeah so now when I get when I come out of college I was tab from franchon that I had an attitude issue and it followed me so then I never had any attitude Prouds of no issues no runin here but then that one time then something happened and then I snap and they see that attitude now I got attitude so now yeah what they were saying was true about me and that's that's how on my side of that's how that's I mean that's just what it was and then once they I was a a bad mental guy it it was it hard to sh so I so I I go to H I go to u ofh i mean you uh to to the Texans do a workout for him man he hell of an athlete but we don't know I go to to Oakland the best receiver there but but I don't know we don't know cuz of in my age kind like damn what what did you do to Marvin I a did nothing to Marvin what' you do to Fran I ain't do nothing to friend right yall I ain't did n of these people CFL I'm going tell CFL is they they are cuz it's not a big as a billion dollar business like we are here right so when you when you do things over there go out they let you be man like they if you're an American you get in trouble you're going back home mhm we don't care if you go out we don't care what you do but as soon as you get in trouble you gone so make sure you just make good decisions after the games we I mean you go on the road and counter you go on the road you spend the night right you don't get on the plane and go right back but they tell y'all go out and party y'all have a great time but you miss that flight in the morning yeah that's but so so I mean but I had I me I was in Toronto and I had a blast over there too I did it was a good time over there remind us some of your teammates in Cincinnati cuz you play with some dudes Chad Johns TJ y uh you got Chris Henry uh right Dexter Jackson um what was O'Neal and R Corner Marvin Lewis was your coach yeah and he he he had no control over team really we had we had a ton of talent but had no control over team not at all and then um let's kind of look at A&M Athletics yes sir and your time so little bit of a tease we're going to talk about his time at A&M and this other bit of content but I want to talk a little bit about what A&M means to you right because at times you've had a weird relationship withm there's parts that you know you you mentioned you didn't love the way things ended with that last coaching staff right but overall some of the best friends of of of your life yep um wide receivers quarterback room like just there people the street I was like outside of football like two of them two of my best friends that I work with do business with that's helping me put stuff together Janice agie Nat Parson agie I deal uh guys that run White Bridge Capital some Aggies and so is is the the afterlife here I mean you can go anywhere in the country cuz one one of my business Bo she's in Mexico wow one of them she one is in Uruguay so the the camaraderie the the life after football and after school here is it's is next level I mean that's that's the biggest thing outside of sports and football all the me memories and stuff that we made on the field it's everything else after that that really matters because you can only you you can only play for so many years so I'm going to ask you this because I asked this when when the former players come by this town is different than the town you play football at right yeah right like you texted me like where are you guys like this it's like busy it's a big city now right like a real it's it's a city city now it's sobody look I be riding through I like man that what oh yeah but I like it you like it yeah it's good though you see the growth you see you see where it's headed and hopefully it it rolls right into the program too well let's talk about that program because um you say you already know coach Elco what do you think I think he's I think I two things I think our season I schedule Falls perfect for us it's not the toughest his first year easy it's not easy I mean anytime you go to SEC is not you know it's not going to be easy but we did Escape some big time names and no b no Georgia no Old Miss yep and so you and ELO he when he was here the first time you he was amazing defensive coordinator y went went to doke same deal and I mean I think it was a great high for us I I love the the trajectory that we that we headed to and man I just hope we just put it all together now and that's been our problem we always the team and the pieces but we we just got to put it together for week to week and be consistent with it you have an opinion why we haven't put it together consistently we'll have one year really good then a couple bad years then a really good year why hasn't it been consistent man that's a tough one because I go to I I I I you can take it back to the to how we kind the recruiting game goes because I I see a bunch of kids and I see a lot and so we Chase Stars instead of players and I think that's I think they're doing both right now though they're getting the right star so and and that's what we need you have to have cuz all them all the stars and I I was talking to a coach from Miami he said R you were a five star you ready to come in and play day one he said man re if a kid is not ready to step on the field now he's not five star like so they need to stop putting those labels on them kids as far as five and four star you're like now you get a five star a socalled five star that's not very good now that coach that think he's a five star not coaching him as hard because he's getting paid he's the five star he's the guy now I can't just get on his head like I want to because next thing you know he going to transfer so now that's we have to that we the we got to put it all together as far as the the stars and the kids that's not star we have to fun cuz it's is some studs out there that ain't Stars yeah I see them on the regular and I don't I don't want to I I just don't like the fact that a lot of coaches Chase those Stars instead of athletes and kids that can actually play and then you start having them same star to be attitude problem they have issues that don't even last because they pre McDonald's they expect everything to be given to them and don't want to work yeah and with nil involved and the transfer portal changes all right let let's close out with this because I know you've got the eye for a quarterback when you see Conor wigman love it yeah yeah love it been been been I I love snapping this from his release I quick get the ball out the mental aspect of his game now we just got to keep him head together and I I I like our back up too the what's his name the the one that played in the ball game you talking about Marcel Reed about jayen Henderson re yes sir and I like him too he the one that played in the ball game right well uh Jaylen start of the ball game got hurt and then that's he he reminded me a lot of myself yeah that he what I watch play I say he he reminds me a lot of myself do do you find yourself I don't know what kind of relationships you have with former quarterbacks but did you find yourself watching everybody from Stephen to to Johnny to all of them Trevor like we've had a lot of good quarterbacks here do you find yourself a talking to them and B watching their games when they were playing yeah yeah as far as now so I stay h i watch more high school football or anything like kids that my that my son got to play against and seeing them type of kids now but man I I yeah I watched every last one of them knew I knew stepen was you know H he Texas kid anyway so he I was a fan of him at Long View watching him come out I was I came back to school when Johnny was here so that was yeah so I mean we've had some good ones come through it's just we have to put it all together Kellen by the way another one who who did it ke Kell played S7 with me okay M yeah before he before he left San Antonio and went to I AMG I think okay so when he was in San Antonio he played he he was one of my quarterbacks on my on 17 look at that man yes sir yes sir re you have an age today man thanks so much for coming in and we're going to do this more often all right no doubt about it thank you brother yes sir all right Reggie you CU we're really close how are you enjoying the little quaint setup I actually enjoy different environments I do like doing a show just mixing things up every once in a while why not right like let's throw in who wants eat spaghetti every night exactly I like it too it's a it's a different look we'll always remember the show that we did up here maybe it'll be more than one show maybe maybe maybe it'll only be one maybe it'll be a long time and maybe one day we'll go live maybe I don't know and maybe Tex radio sorry you're giving you're you're you're talking David all right let's get into some around auland so mckenley did a great job of touching all bases with soccer volleyball so I want to get into some of the men's and women's basketball schedule that was announced this week uh their SEC schedule was announced their full schu schedule and men's basketball has quite a loaded slate with a bunch of Saturday games including a I mean you couldn't get any better than this Saturday January 4th uh will be against Texas at Texas A&M so we will be at home that'll be an awesome way to kick off conference play as well as a bunch of Saturday games you have Saturday versus Alabama here uh Saturday game versus LSU you will play at Texas on another Saturday South Carolina missou Arkansas Tennessee Florida LSU so those games are all again Saturday games that is quite a loaded slate and I know agies are looking forward to uh playing them also to note they play Oklahoma in the second conference game of the year so that'll be interesting to have first conference game Texas second conference game Oklahoma at Oklahoma all the newbies okay it'll be so we're starting off strong then that third conference game is Alabama so we're you're jumping right into it uh there's going to be what a tough start of conference it really is guess the fourth theme is at Kentucky oh my we'll see what there yeah we don't have Arkansas is a little bit later down um but that'll be a heck of a schedule for them and then women's basketball schedule was also announced little thing to note they will play Texas and Texas A&M will play here but they will not play at Texas in this schedule um that we have and also and then they will play at Oklahoma Oklahoma will not come here this year um so quite a little bit different change um but we're excited for men's and women's basketball especially with this new schedule coming out just a reminder for for some people the Alex kuso Caruso Foundation he was a great guest this week uh is hosting its inaugural golf scramble at Miramont Country Club that will be on Monday he said there were a few spots available when last when we talked to him um so if you do are interested in that uh email ask cuso Foundation gmail.com great stuff KK thank you very much of course when we come back on texags radio Billy Luchi will be joining us we've got Connor to talk about we've got football to talk about we got life to talk about that and more we'll see you in a bit at STX radio e e e e e e e it is texx Radio we are presented by David Gardner Jewelers r Insurance Studio got to send a shout out to Rod Reed who's listening Rod we love you too man thanks so much uh if you want to be a part of the conversation this morning you can do it couple different ways 979-6962 n69 31150 you can talk to us on the uh YouTube page hopefully you guys subscribe to our YouTube channel and you get all the updates that we put on YouTube from all of our great content and hopefully you guys go to texags.com and become a premium subscriber get all that Insider information that billy gets us here on texags and you can get that first before anybody else gets it and then people leak it on Twitter uh but Billy is the source when it comes to All Things Texas A&M Athletics so those are the multiple ways you can be a part of the program I know we're working on getting Billy on the show I do want to go to a couple text messages that come in let's see if I can find it here's a 713 that says what if I love this what if because this is optimistic wh ifs what if m beats Notre Dame then Notre Dame goes 11-1 and A&M goes 10-2 on the season will Notre Dame keep A&M out of the playoffs thanks and gigum and my answer to you is uh no uh look no nobody knows how this committee is going to do every year is a different and I know that we have um committee battered committee syndrome whatever it may be right for what's happening with football and basketball in the past but no I don't believe that will be the case at all U I think if A&M goes 10 and two and look that's a that's a mighty big ask is it a possibility um yeah with the talent that we have why not right with the hard games at home why not but I I've said this multiple times not only do I have to see it to believe it yeah that's I think that's all of us but I also do believe that um when you have that many what ifs it's going to be hard to hit on all the ifs and if we went through the ifs on this it's uh it's kind of a difficult one to say right like when we go through the ifs if the wide receiver group is Elite well it it's certainly possible Noah Thomas can absolutely take a huge step moose some people were asking why I didn't mention him yesterday when I was asked about wide receiver we know moose can be elite when he plays right um I just want to see it consistently just like I want to see it consistently from Noah Thomas you know what is Cyrus Allen going to provide you is he going to be similar to what judai brought you last year can Juday build on what he did at the end of last season those are legit if questions right um and Jab Barber is is he the guy that we heard about during the Spring before he got injured can he be you know a 1B onea type receiver those are all questions that I think are part of the ifs other ifs to talk about right um the off offensive line I feel much better about the offensive line because there's some new guys on on the line and I think that is certainly a big part of it but the the offensive line is something is still an if right and if for the offensive line if the tight end room you know provides the same kind of value that you had last year because look um you know Max Jake's not here Jake Johnson's not here I about to call him Jake Maxwell but Jake Johnson is not here and he was really good for them last year Donovan Green is still coming back from an injury I am super intrigued by uh what we're going to get from Theo like I think Theo is going to be really nice addition Trey Watson seems like he's the legit but those are still ifs when we're talk about the offensive side of the football I don't think there's any ISS with the defensive side of the football or excuse me the defensive line I think they're going to Marvel that Florida State defensive line that uh Bud Elliot talked about earlier in the program I think that is all part of it um I also is there an if for the linebackers yeah I mean you don't have Edge Cooper so I understand the ifs but I think torian York takes a huge step and all the indications of that linebacker crew next to him seem to be pointing in the right direction so there is is that um there's some also some other areas to point at uh secondary I think is still an if because we don't know these new pieces I do know that they're deeper healthier and they're more comfortable than they were a year ago different staff but you know you didn't even have Tony Grimes last year you just didn't have them so that is part of the conversation for sure um I think Billy's calling by the way um so those are my wh ifs that have to answer special teams I think they're going to be significantly better but it's still an if right but they have a coordinator right um that makes you feel significantly better about the position so that's why I can't go all in on these 10 and two talks because there's too many wha ifs to to have a feel for let's go to the boss Firearms hotline I believe we are joined by Billy Luchi Billy good morning buddy morning David no I'm not guys I'm not getting Billy on my headset so if you guys can fix that up for me that'd be great Billy good morning hi Dave how are you hello hi hello hi uh we got a delay is that what's going on yeah are you coming in or you gonna be on the phone well I guess I'll come in if we're gonna have a delay but I was hoping for not I'm sorry go ahead and come over well we could chitchat a little bit right the air yet David yeah we're on the air this is the show yeah all I've heard is y'all complaining about that little room o glitched out earlier I thought we were gonna have to reboot him apparently versus the word Monsoon is one of the great battles of all time man's greatest battles is Ol versus the war Monsoon I like this room Billy it just the delay becomes an issue when you're talking but I can can handle it I've done it before yeah you handle it very well let me tell you really oh I hate hearing myself laugh five seconds later anyway Jake crane our buddy the craniac right he hasm fifth in the SEC and Texas 6 in the SEC and you got our buddy Josh Pate who's got Texas winning the SEC make sense of what these predictions are Billy I believe P also got Texas playing for the national title um listen you know here's my thing on that I think that demonstrates not only the balance in the League this year that you know in terms of the the parody we likely to see but also I think it demonstrates Texas uh in terms of you know when we've talked all off season about teams that that we care about what's their ceiling what's their floor and Texas I think that I think that's right there those two guys gave you their ceiling and their floor I think if everything plays out you know great for Texas and they take advantage of that schedule and they're able to they don't even have to beat Georgia at home hell they could lose to Michigan on the road and Georgia at home and in theory lose to the go 0 and2 against the two best teams on their schedule and they could be they they would be playing I don't think there's a world where they wouldn't be playing for the SEC Championship I guess in theory you know somebody could go undefeated Georgia could lose one or could be three Lo one lost teams in Texas left out but you get what I'm saying um that's the upside you know those receivers end up being as good or better than the guys last year uh SAR just lives up to the hype as a play caller that no one can stop uh he keeps it all together this fall and then uh that defense gets better than they were last year where the secondary was torched pretty regularly right up until right up through their final game of the season against Washington with penck and Company humiliating them um and they get better and there's your stealing to me the floor would be Quin yours continuing to be up and down with his performances and I know people disagree with that I personally think he'll take the next step I think it's just part of a natural progression for for him uh but there's also a world where that is what we've seen from him is who he is which is he has Saturdays where he's very inaccurate where the pressure gets to him he misses deep balls down the field uh far too often and and he struggles I mean I could give you probably five games last year where that was the case and forget about stats like just watch the game and be honest and say how good was this guy and then there are other games where he looks incredible like Bama um so I think if that happened with their injuries in the back field if that secondary only gets a little better and it doesn't make that massive leap that it needs to make then they're a team just like A&M and LSU and Tennessee and uh Florida all you know whoever they're going to be a team that probably looks up and realizes man we lost a few close games well why was it well it's because of the aggregate cuz we're a good team but we weren't a great team good teams in this conference there's going to be a bunch of them and it's just going to come down to how many games do you win or lose in the last four minutes I think their floor for Texas is like eight four type of seats Billy I started off the show with some thoughts on if I had a hesitation at all on A&M is just the fact that two out of the first three games are very difficult matches or matchups I should say for a program that is rebooting and restarting but it's not a complete reset obviously because you got half your team coming back and your core players coming back but if I were if I was to hesitate a little bit that would be why I would hesitate yeah no I'm there's a world where I would tell you to me I'm much more worried about Notre Dame Florida than I am Missouri LSU and I'm not sure Missouri or and or LSU might be better than Notre Dame like if those teams were playing mid season on a neutral sight field I'm not sure both of those teams wouldn't beat Notre Dame um I don't think we'll ever know that because even if the Aggies beat the Irish I think Notre Dame's GNA kind of roll their way into like a 10 two playoff first but as I sit here right now I look at norre Dame and I watch them I look at them from last year what they have coming back what they don't have and I'm like man I mean I don't know how they're any more you know more of a tough game than than LSU and Missouri but because of what you said because it so early game one game three one of them on the road I'm not sure I wouldn't tell you right now today if you said odds of going two and 0 Notre Dame in the opener and Florida two weeks later in the swamp versus missou and LSU at home in October I I would put my money on the October game even though I think that's a tougher assignment in terms of the teams you're play if that makes any sense at all and I think it does 100% it makes sense bill I uh I worry about the beginning just because it is a uh transition and whatnot but I I do think they're going to be a really good product by the time you get to those harder games follow me on this because I find this this pre-season and this offse David yes sir David that's why that's exactly why I said get back to me if they win those two games in September then I think the whole world college football not just us here have to start going A&M has a very real chance to make a playoff because then you look at games like Auburn on the road Texas LSU and missou at home and you can go two- two in those four and you're in the playoff or you could go three and one you'd go three and one and and drop one at South Carolina and maybe be in probably be in the playoff so point being if they get these two early wins then the whole nation opinion of Texas A&M as a as a playoff Contender completely changes do I think they can roll like into the title game this year no I I just think there's there are too many there are too many question marks and there are too many contenders this year that a couple of those teams are B to roll to like any one or two lost conference season um but I do think yeah if you look if they get those first two games you could start looking at can they get to can this team get to 10 wins and the answer would be yeah it's doable um especially if it stands to reason like you're saying like that they're just going to get better and you're one under Mike oo but I kind of agree with en and too to a lesser extent he talks about we haven't seen it they haven't done it they they they they they've been on this trajectory of not getting it done and I go yeah I I there's some truth to that because a lot of these guys coming back they've had to adjust to elco's expectations and and what he expects from them on and off the field throughout this off season and they've gotten there but like ELO said to us the other day when I asked him he said it's more of like a whole calendar year thing you get through a whole offseason you go through Spring ball you go through a portal session you go through a full football season because now that's different too what they're about to embark on they haven't been through with him yet he hasn't been through it with them so there are some of the same guys that just don't yet know even though they they've been coached that since January they don't yet know like truly what it takes to go in week after week in the fourth quarter rather than let it flip away so can a clean break those habits that would be really tough um so for that standpoint you that's why you kind of don't pick them I think to you know to be an SEC title Contender but I do think if they start strong they can be a playoff Contender see what I'm saying yep Billy follow me on this because I I know I'm going to do a Nuno ISM it is but it isn't but follow me I I feel that this has been an extremely long off season from a football sense because I have never been through this coaching change and new administr so I've been waiting for this new brand of football since December but because of the success in other sports women's tennis uh baseball obviously and and all the other sports right like and basketball having a nice run because of that I feel like it's been a shorter off season at least for talking points for when it comes to A&M Athletics but football I just feel like we're we're a week away from the mcken brothers being here for The Final Countdown it's finally here it just feels like it's been a really long time yeah it does it see to me I feel like it it's kind of zipped by actually for all the reasons you said it made it seem faster to me so I'm here n Go to a commercial okay don't be mad tired of this tired of this delay I want you joining us here in a moment to chitchat um with this what we've been doing he's having a laugh in the background uh it's time for 24 and 24 our number one guy brought to you by FBS suppliance who are committed to delivering an exceptional experience from start to finish you can trust them to provide unparalleled service and support every step of the way because FBS Appliance is your trusted appliance store visit any other eight showrooms across Texas and find them online at factory Builder stores.com and number one on our list is the Connor wigman Conor wigman number one I see hesitation as you're sitting as you're sitting down okay this is absurd this I'm glad you wore your tight pants to give us a little extra room in here today and by the way what is this wait you're waiting for laughter I already got it I know you can't do a joke twice yes you can't do it within four minutes of each other it doesn't play when you can't see how tight those things are they're not that tight um and what is this what is this Cuba propaganda on the desk people what are you doing so we needed something so the oh God what are we doing here we needed something so the fan didn't vibrate why is this are they still communist uh what are we I still love the beaches there I've never been to Cuba believe it or not but you love the Cuban beaches I well my parents do you love them but you've never just so you're aware you love them but youve never seen them no I've seen pictures I my parents would not allow me love the beaches I love the beaches in Vietnam you ever seen those no look amazing movies but uh my parents will not allow me even at almost 50 to go to Cuba until the Communist Regime is gone cuz we're America okay well yet here's the brochure well it's just showing the beautiful beaches in the I took my parents house we got this weird pink fan blowing on Miranda's fan I don't even know what to say let's talk Connor wigman can we talk there's no way to transition into that look I I've said this all week the top five you can kind of Shake It Up however you want there's not a lot of separation between these guys Connor wigman is qb1 he is our guy uh we voted him I think we all voted him number one I know Nick scorton was close in that in that conversation as well some of us may have had him I'll have to look at the the breakdown but Conor when good I mean when healthy and it's only been you know eight games he's been healthy um for eight games but he only started a few games as freshman year I'm I'm doing a ob ISM right now no you're not I'm hesitating um I'll let you take it from there we've seen him for eight games 16 touchdowns two interceptions the only game with interceptions was the Miami game and there are reasons for those two he protects the ball he takes hits he gets rid of the ball quickly as well uh just break it all down I think Connor I've said this Bunch this off season um just putting it simply had he been healthy last year uh not to go too deep into the weeds of what could have happened had he been healthy um because injuries are part of a team season you say well Jimbo would still have a job well but the year before quarterbacks got hurt the year before that quarterbacks got hurt so it was not a conducive environment to QB's not getting hurt and there was some bad luck like you know I I do remember I think I remember talking to Jimbo after that injury to Conor and it's just like just got sacked yeah it's just unfortunate that that sack broke you know and it was from a missed block but that happens how many times in a game does a lineman miss a block even on even on good you know championship teams you know I watched A&M sack Bryce Young when did B I think they won it that year right or they but B Adam sacked Bryce young like seven times they sacked milro a million times last year and and lost that game so it that stuff happens um it just happened that Conor suffered a season ending injury on the one so with that said if Connor was healthy last year I believe we'd T be talking about him along with the rest of the country as an First Team all SEC candidate at quarterback along with Jackson Dart and Quinn yers probably at the at the top of that list um maybe milroe in there as well because I I do think he doesn't get talked about enough I think he's one guy in this league that you combine him with kayn dbor and I don't think enough people are thinking what if Jaylen milro makes a giant leap right uh but anyway Conor wigman had he been healthy all year last year I think the whole country is saying well A&M led by all SEC quarterback All-American candidate top 10 Heisman list guy in Conor wigman I think that's how people would have been talking about him because that's how I think his season would have gone and do we have a large body of work to show no and look we've seen Conor struggle in games too he he was he was struggling a little bit in that first half against Auburn Miami they his team lost by a couple touchdowns but he had no no protection was getting abused and I thought if you go back and watch at Miami game and now people are starting to but you know how long I've been saying this right now it's become in Vogue on Twitter people go oh hey look look at Connor's thr and I'm glad to be able to provide that by the way because we have been talking about this for a long time Jordan Rogers has been talking about that for a long time I think that was where the conversation actually started it did yeah it was it was I've said it before it was dinner the night before that game and earlier that day I had talked to TBO and all three of us all well those two believe I was just the one talking about that game A&M Auburn and the conversation was at that time who's the best QB in the SEC and Jordan's like I got some really nice highlights tell tell me you know like wigman Dart Jaden Daniels now obviously Jaden Daniels sword ended up winning a Heisman should have won it deserved it he was incredible no one's saying that would have been Connor particularly on this team uh there was no Malik neighbors to throw to last year there was no Brian Thomas but what Conor wigman was trending towards was to be an all conference Contender I think that's what he would be because and why number one he's a gamer okay you go back and look at how he played in his first ever career start against a good old Miss team where he outd Jackson Dart you know uh the running back uh quinan Jud went crazy in that game Jackson Dart did a lot of scrambling with his legs had a hell of a game but Conor wigman he his production in that game was like that of a an All-American yes it was you look at his numbers you look at the throws he was making the way he started that game then you go a few weeks later that LSU game and that was the divon a chain show but you watch some of the throws Conor made early some of the scrambles he made early to keep games alive when it was closed and then trusting moose muhamad to go up and get it late and not being scared to throw him up there and let your guys score touchdowns and make big catches he was I think it was like 12 for 18 but he was A+ Plus in that football game he looked like a veteran he looked like a fourth year starter he was a freshman and then we go and talk about that Miami game so the small sample size is why I understand if you don't have him ran ranked up that high but the small sample size is also why I think you can go if A&M is to reach its upside this year and if A&M is to let's just say enter that Texas game with with a shot outside shot legit shot whatever at the playoff it's going to be because they Rose above the LSUS and the tennesses and the uh trying to think of these teams that I think so much is going to depend on their quarterback oh you with Jackson Arnold um Tennessee with Nico and then and then obviously with uh LSU with nus Meyer I think I think Conor wigman can be better than those guys this year and if he is then I think A&M I think the team out of those four that moves up is which quarterback is best and I think that could very well be Conor wi so I spoke for you I don't know if you heard my interview with Bud Elliott from uh 247 he mentioned I haven't really heard a lot of good stuff about Connor this fall he wasn't speaking poorly of it he just hadn't heard a lot and go and I know he he struggled a little bit in the spring um movement wise so you know that's the question and I was like well actually Billy's reported that Conor looks great um he's had a really good fall so well he really is he really has uh he's looked good on the foot all fall but I think his performance within Colin Klein's offense as this Camp has gone on has been a very very steady progression so sometimes I would say trust the guy that's here trust the guy that sees it trust the guy that has people to ask that ain't saying every single guy looks great yeah that's not the way it goes but he is a guy that I think throughout Camp has gotten better and better and better he started off good he's gotten better and better and better as he's got in command of Collins offense but what I think Elco Colin Klein like what they haven't seen yet is that I think Conor wigman is such a gamer too yeah he's just got that dog in him whether it's on the football field or on the on the diamond where his energy level his his Focus his competitive Drive goes up exponentially I I look in a perfect world and I'm not saying he's not those things in practice but it is I think it's a noticeable jump I it's this dude that just hates to lose and he wants to walk off the field with everyone knowing like he was the best one out there that day let me read this thing from Trevor syo before we hit a Break um NFL draft analyst says my early scouting report for the qb1 title led me to names such as Carson Beck from Georgia shadur Sanders from Colorado and Quinn ERS from Texas all three in my early top eight with Beck and Sanders both in my top three but another less lotted player barely edged them out for the top spot heading into the 2024 college football season Conor wigman of Texas A&M I know Trevor's been really high shout out Trevor and Alyssa Lang um who will be doing the MCN game oh okay here Liss is on the call there so um no he's been high on on Connor since he wrote that article this summer and and he he did a pretty deep dive into wigman and the numbers and the tape and he's not he might be the most bullish on Connor but he's not the only one that started to come along on that front and people that talk about the spring I've said it before the single biggest thing I think for this quarterback and maybe this football team was Conor wigman and the decision by Elco kleene him probably his family trainers everybody to say he can go and for Connor to say I want to go in spring right because he wasn't hurt but he wasn't 100% And he practiced all spring not 100% And if your quarterback's going to do something or send some kind of message that's the message you want to send I'm all in guys I'm I'm qb1 and I'm all in the worst thing that could happen is for people to wonder or for you to have that opposite message and not only that but what it meant for his development within this new offense and what it meant for his ability on that on that foot and ankle just to take those un choreographed or rehearsed movements that you do during rehab and to kind of have to cut or see a pass rusher coming and kind of you know spin that way and put different angles of pressure on that thing I think really helped strengthen uh and get him back to normal which is exactly what he's looked like throughout fall Camp all right we'll hit a break we'll come back with more it's Tech sags radio presented by David e e e e e e e e all right we are back here on Tech sags radio we are presented by David Gardner Jewelers r Insurance studio um Billy will be with us here in a minute got an email over the uh week that says lowest average college football ticket price A&M among the priciest where we're looking at these numbers the priciest ticket if you take the average of the Season uh is Colorado U they have six home games cheapest average ticket is $172 second on that list is Tennessee at 15643 Texas A&M third on the list at 983 so uh third most expensive ticket and then um there's also the amount we'll get into here in a minute on the just the Texas game and the Notre Dame game how much those tickets are going for Billy I wanted to uh run this by you so I talked to OB about it earlier have you seen that A&M is in the top five of teams that are attracting the most money to win a National Championship no yeah they're they number five and I'll give you the list Georgia's W miss two LSU 3 Miami 4& M5 I found that to be an interesting number I guess LSU Miami and A&M you know as people are searching for team outside that you can get the good enough odds on uh I it does surprise me to see A&M on that list as prominently with a first year head coach QB coming back like you said and uh not an easy schedule by any means some pretty tough um I've seen tougher SEC slates for Aggie teams mostly because of the home games the aies get but I've been pretty vocal about how difficult I think some of these Road games are again not necessarily because of the teams right but because of the venues and the timing Florida early Auburn late the swamp Jordan hair I'd like to flip those and get Auburn early Florida late you might have a Florida team with an interim coach team that's quit or a team playing a freshman quarterback um Auburn I think is a team that's only going to get better as the year goes on with those newcomers at receiver so and in year two under Hugh frees where I think they're going to ascend under him I don't know what their ceiling is going to be but I do think they're going to ascend and be a lot better than they were last year when they should have beaten Georgia and Alabama right actually nobody nobody thinks about that they 1,000% should have beaten Georgia the week after A&M drubbed them they obviously should have beaten Alabama had they called a better defense on that play uh Mill wrote a bond so I I think the A&M schedule's tough at South Carolina at night that's always a tough one um in Jerry World against Arkansas it's always a year after year it's it's tougher than it should be almost and then even even Mississippi State Labby in year one Blake shaping at quarterback probably a pretty offensive football team that can score cowbells all that I mean so your road venues you didn't get Vandy um you're not going you know you're not going on the road to well you know I don't know who it would be this year besides those Kentucky they're tough but I mean I don't think of that venue as the most daunting over there what is it Kroger field or something but anywh who I just think I I think the A&M schedule is tough It's surprises me that that they would be in there I would have thought maybe somebody the picks would be going in on somebody like Tennessee which I think I think the vs are getting a little undue hype and I think LSU is getting a little undo hype I agree with you I I don't know that those two teams should be getting hyped as much as they are it has nothing to do with A&M I I don't think A&M should be getting hyped up anymore I think the ranking that we've been seeing is generally in the fair range of where I think with what they have coming back Year One under a coach like I think do I think they can be better than that ranking I absolutely do I almost expect that they will I do kind of expect they will but I understand it I think Tennessee and LSU are getting a little too much LSU lost Jaden freaking Daniels they lost two first round level receivers um and that was kind of their whole thing they sucked on defense they were historically defense and they lost good players off the defense and I know they brought in Missouri's defensive coordinator and they're they will try to convince you and Baton Rouge that house is better you know than he is I mean this what what did Missouri do defensively that they were known for their offense they were known for what they did at quarterback tailb and receiver last year way more than anything they did on defense I watched them in LSU play in that football game that no one could stop the other one it was like 100 to 90 uh that was his defense so to me like I'm I'm sitting here going where I I know their o Line's going to be really good and I Conor wigman has shown so much more than Garrett NM has he shown so much more than Nico has now Nico is it's a much smaller sample size Conor wigman shown so much more than Jackson Arnold has so these are the teams I'm looking at where people are going oh okay yeah let's let's this could be a Hyo and Tennessee what they were around seven and six maybe in year one they had an amazing year two led by henen hooker then he got hurt I believe they ended up a three loss team and then last year they weren't very good and again I'm an Aggie sitting here saying this so don't don't go there better they beat a talking about the SEC and in the National picture so two of the three years they weren't very good do I think they're on the on on the rise under Hyo yes I I do and I think the way he's recruiting right now what that place is pumping into nil I do believe there's a you know you know hate to quote bronny but the rising tide raises all ship thing going on with baseball winning a national title I think you could see you know that basketball team's got it rolling by the way you look at A&M and baseball and Buzz Williams should have a great basketball team this year with Wade Taylor leading the way and all those veterans I do think there's a that happens I do think there's a carryover effect from sport to sport there's a culture thing that goes on Texas has that going right now the day after we talk about they're going to start this uh lone star showdown again right right well Texas you're starting it when Texas on top quite literally they've won the last three director's cups right like they're as good as you can get athletically across the board and A&M just going sign me up to go head-to-head with them in every sport and let's keep score that's a daunting task but you know you got to start sometime uh hopefully soccer volleyball I mean Texas volleyball is a big part of why there's good two back-to-back national titles but kind of makes the football game even that much more important though that's not what anyone's going to be thinking about uh at that time my point saying all this is I think Tennessee is on the upswing but I don't know why they're getting so much more love I think I think that uh unless you just say well it's a first year Under head coach you said that's your whole thing I'll go okay I get it if if that's if that's your whole thing you don't want to sit here and go into the how close A&M was with all the dysfunction the last couple if you just want to say on the surface on its Face's got a first year head coach LSU same deal like why are we going all in on Nar and an unknown defense that has to come from being one of the worst in all of college football to being probably good yeah probably like top 20 good because offensively they should be nothing like they were a season ago and by the way don't tell me that those two coordinators are magically going to snap their fingers and be better than Den Brock but Kelly wanted to push them and wanted to keep them and push them up and that's why Den Brock was looking around and a lot of LSU fans don't understand that because they refused to believe that he would have left LSU for A&M they think he just left to go home to Notre Dame it if it wasn't Colin Klein I think D Den Brock a I think he would have taken the job regardless um because he was looking to get out because he knew that there was a push to get those two guys in there it's kind of the almost cooc role and he's sitting here going right yeah did you not see what we just put on the field last year hopefully that doesn't get he doesn't get that going in Notre d right away no all right let's head a break we'll come back with one final segment is Tech sags radio presented by David Gardner jewers e e e e e e all right guys it's time to end the day with double Daves caller number 12 979-6962 with your favorite pizza and of course those world famous roning rolls reliable in-house delivery bringing piping hot goodness straight to your door just click on double days.com and your favorites are on their way we have about two minutes left on the program Billy um so let's see I'll read a text here Joe sends us good morning I think one of the more frustrating things is the fact that we have been in the SEC for now a number of years in Texas enters as first year they're ranked ahead of us and seemed to be further along than us in their football program I really wish we could have used this time to take advantage of the opportunity yes don't we all two coaches for six years each both of them produced a top five finish um you were very close under each coach we thought to getting that thing over the hump and they were unable to do it and they were both fired as a result and it's it's just it is a tremendous what if if you look at certain games you look at certain Decisions by the head coaches you look at kind of these moments where you could in hind even at the time you worried but in hindsight you definitely can go well that's when it kind of went off the rails you can name the players that got hurt or the players that left there's a bunch of programs that sit around and say that you know uh Texas said that for a long time after m brown left LSU said that for like 30 years before Nick Sabin got in there uh Alabama said that for 15 years from Jean Stallings to Nick Sabin or whatever it was USC's been saying that uh Michigan said that for a long time before Jim Harbaugh got there you got to get your guy you got to have a lement I do think A&M has alignment president ad head coach I think it's been a while since we've seen that much of that here um they've got I think the infrastructure in terms of facilities uh donor enthusiasm athletic department uh trying to be Forward Thinking in terms of nil and what's coming I think nil in terms of what's going on right now A&M's highly competitive roster they're up there so it's I believe it's starting to come together I agree though the timing you know you wish A&M would be at a higher spot and not breaking in a new coach as Texas enters but it worked out for Texas and OU because they had two whole years and three Cycles in recruiting to recruit off the SEC while playing in the Big 12 they got a great situation there uh but it's okay because this season I think there's going to be a lot of teams that rise and fall from what we see them in the preseason thank you Billy we will see all of you on Monday
