Tennessee vs NC State: The Next Day

[Music] [Music] n [Music] happy Sunday morning this is Frank rock this is the house of orange sports channel coming at you I've slept a little bit I've thought about it I've uh gone back over pretty much the whole game as I was there in person for it last night this is the next day Tennessee versus North Carolina State it's a night 5110 I did a post game last night it was um I got rushed uh PE the ushers people they were wanting us out of there so I was trying to get it as much in as quick as possible I wanted to do it into Stadium thought it'd be cool but uh you know got a little bit in didn't get to get fully into my thoughts last night because they they were wanting us out here out of there and I get it I totally get it so but got a little bit in that was kind of cool to be able to do that but um 5110 in a game and let's make no mistake about this okay we can go glass half full can go glass half empty on this one what I mean by that is I'm not going to go down the road of well NC State just wasn't that good no I think they're going to be fine Tennessee on the other hand is that good Tennessee is that good because you saw what they did to a top 25 team last night that will be one of the top teams in the ACC this season and they made them look bad they made them look bad in State got a little bit of a drive on the first possession Omar Norman lot got the sack it was nothing after that they got the one drive again after Nico's first interception T night and then um got pressure on the quarterback he overthrew will Brooks takes it to way what 85 yards unbelievable what a night for him great for him people question off season why was Will Brooks starting Carri Williams and I when we talked about it on air I think we were both kind of the same I was like listen I don't know that it excites me to see a walk on but at the same time these coaches are out there every day and I said we'll give him benefit of the doubt until I see something otherwise guy was where he needed to be last night he made his play and went to the house in two games we've not heard anything about these safeties other than night that's a good thing because they're not getting burned at any point um let's face it guys this defensive line is the top defensive line in college football you're rotating guys in and out keeping them fresh Rodney Garner was had whole units going last night who would have thought coming in who would have seen this coming that they would hold NC State to 143 yards their main running back Jordan Waters didn't even have a positive yard last night he was in the negative for the night I mean NC State stats these are insane 100 four yards passing 39 yards rushing on the night you look at their individual Grayson Mcall was 15 out of 22 104 the one pick three sacks Smothers six carries 25 yards uh Jordan Waters seven carries negative4 yards Grayson McCall nine um nine carries six yards of the two guys uh were on down the depth chart there as far as I know CJ Bailey Kendrick Raphael but just a dominating performance once again by this defensive line and you know the thing is kind of funny about it as well is you look at like the tackles who's the tackle leer just numerous guys had four tackles three tackles two tackles I mean a lot of guys played last night they had 11 tackles for loss three sacks one force fumble they recovered another one uh Tander recovered that one when McCall bobbled to snap this game could have been but based on what it was this NC State could have been scoreless last night they could have easily been scoreless the two uh turnovers led to 10 points for them last night elsewhere other than that first drive they did little to nothing I mean they were it was still a game at 10 to three let's make no mistake about it it was a game when Nico threw the interception it was a bad read on his part he knows it he said it after the game and uh you know he's he's on we still have to factor in as much talent as he has he still only made three starts now and uh you know if last night was a down night for him that's a pretty good that performance from him last night was still much better than most quarterback um performances that we saw for a long period of time down at Tennessee especially going from when Josh dobs left until henden hooker took over that was still better than any performance pretty much in that time frame there may be an outlier or two in there but otherwise if a down Knight for Nico eam malava is 16 of 23 211 two touchdowns two interceptions eight carries for 65 yards in a touchdown we're still going to win a lot of football games on that now I feel confident he'll I I don't know that you can blame him on the second one because I was reading about it it said javante spragin got blown up by the NC State Defender but you know maybe that's one where I don't know I don't know if Nico tried to force it or or what happened on that but obviously it led to the pick six for NC State as well he'll make better decisions on that along way the throw the first interception there were four NC State guys around he was really going to have to put that one on the money and he wasn't it was U it was a throw he'd like to have back for sure but a good night I thought Nico still good uh did good things how about them tight ends man how about them tight ends there would have been another touchdown if it wasn't for the illegal man downfield that point kelman would have had a 57 yard touchdown I think it was that got called back but these tight ends man they look good and I think I was reading about Kitman said he in two years at Alabama had two catches for 18 yards well last night alone he had uh three catches for 39 yards and a touchdown so in one night he had more catches than he did the whole time he was at Alabama and I thought he looked good too I thought all the tight ends I think they've looked good so far I know there was a penalty UNH holding stays earlier in the game when they were driving but I mean other than that the tight ends have look good I think the offensive line has done pretty good it was a weird formation of course they were seeing last night you know Nico was rushed at times um but there was times I mean you know you still you run for last night 249 yards um that's that's a pretty good night against a power four team running the football I think you take that all day long with them as Tennessee last night went for 460 and it was a night I was texting some buddies this morning I would almost give that performance a see on the night it was Dylan Samson was excellent Dylan Samson I'm going to release some content later today talking about just a spoiler alert about maybe we're talking wrong guy for the Heisman in Knoxville maybe we're uh we should focus on another guy for it that's nothing against anybody that's how good Dylan Samson is so you know last night for him once again another 100 yard game for him as he had 20 carries 138 yards two touchdowns and in the passing game um he had three for 37 last night so I mean 169 yards of total offense for him that's a pretty good night for him uh the dude's the man he is he is good he's going to have a huge year this year you got Kent State this week an Oklahoma team that looked bad last night you got to feel pretty confident I think you're Tennessee going out to Oklahoma in two weeks Arkansas um you know this defense so this this line This defensive line man it is the real deal it is the best defensive line they've had since early 2000s early 2000s what they've built overtime here is just really fascinating with Rodney Garner and Company the way they built it um I don't know what what more you can say about this team just you know the way they scored last night um you know look at to box score going back on that Samson with the nine-yard Run NC State got the field goal that was after Nico's first interception Max Gilbert hit two field goals 3245 he missed 53 but there's one thing about it Max Gilbert's got the leg the leg is not an issue will Brooks had the 85 yard interception returned kelman with the 15 yard touchdown reception uh what about that call Nico in the third quarter third down they just call straight up quarterback draw perfect call NC State was bringing the house the line everybody did their job and hit the blocks he went untouched uh for the touchdown great call by Josh Hy great run by Nico on that play uh let's see third quarter still Aiden white interception return 87 yards then the fourth Samson 34 yards and then Holden stays CA tonight 18 yard touchdown was after six straight runs and then they faked it stay is wide open he took it in for the touchdown but I I mean I thought Tennessee's offense was efficient I thought they were good um I didn't think they were great I don't they definitely weren't bad they they were good last night uh a c might be a little harsh but you know the turnovers that's kind of where I go with it maybe a b maybe a low B on B minus but defense a plus theyy NC St I think I saw Jason swing on Twitter at some point he said after that first drive they didn't want any more of that that that defense man they um I I can't say enough about them I did a video earlier in this off season can a Josh hpel team have an elite defense long way to go in this one so far this is looking like an elite defense Josh Hy said it in the postgame last night said Tennessee is known for elite defense he said Reggie White Al Wilson Eric bar so it's not that they've not been trying to build an elite defense it takes time it takes time and that's what it that that's why it's gotten to this point now we'll see when they go against your Alabama's we'll see what they do against Oklahoma I I've got a lot of confidence they'll shut Oklahoma down uh Alabama you know what's Florida going do with their new quarterback he looked pretty good of course it was not against good competition but you still you know they still took care of business what are they going to look like when they come to kn um you know just a lot around the SEC Georgia of course that's going to be the big one to go with but this Tennessee team man they're they're the real deal they are the real deal the question what was the deal last night Tennessee is that good they are that good of a football team they're solid everywhere around and you got to think about this as well Nico's going to keep getting better along way he's pretty dang good now you just wait till he gets later in the year where he's at you just wait till
