"DRJ" notes Dollar General has faced significant share drops

Dollar General and again I remember when Pete uh people used to say well they'll do really well when uh people are you know tightening their belts in other words when they're cutting back well because Target and Walmart have come into their space So Hard Target and Walmart are taking a lot of customers even they had to identify that beep so shares down significantly uh concerns about financially constrained core customer core customer is what their um direct statement was that they are constrained that ain't good um and the next stock will tell you even more about how constrained customers are but Dollar General Pete that's a pretty ugly looking chart it is ugly it's very ugly they missed on the earnings that didn't look so good matter of fact year-over-year down a couple of percent John but the other thing is it's the worst earnings report in 9 years this is not something good at all this shows you a lot of the struggle and to your point I think a lot of it is they've been losing customers and the customers are going back to Target they're going back to Walmart and and Walmart has done an amazing job John of getting the folks that are coming from those dollar type discount stores as well as some of the higher end that's come down and gotten sticky and they're there I think that's part of the reason why Walmart's had such an incredible run they also lowered their guidance never a good thing we talk about it all the time on these earning reports but you lower the guidance the the guidance you're probably going to see some sellers come out there we have and this stock is Now 52 we lows that's not a good thing either so it's it's it's it's unfortunate for them they took advantage of it for a little while but not terribly long john and now they I think are a little bit stretched they got a little bit of a problem right now and they're going to have to figure out how are they going to defend themselves against some of the trade Downs their trade overs I should say over to Target over to Walmart and get those customers back if they can't they're really going to be in trouble going forward well it was 168 bucks Pete on the highs back in April and now it's 87 bucks at the 52e low they've lost half the value of the stock it was a $ 38 billion stock now it's a $19 billion stock so pretty damn bad [Music]
