you're listening to the money mikee Syndicate Radio podcast how we doing how we doing Las Vegas Aces took down the Chicago Sky 90 to 71 uh Chicago Sky had an opportunity to battle in the game played a great first quarter uh control the tempo but then had a relapse in the second quarter and just went into turnover mode and that kind of took the Aces and uh were able to put him in a spot that they felt comfortable uh AJ Wilson again led the way for the aces another 30-point game and uh you look at the Chicago Sky it was one of those things came down to situational basketball where they just couldn't find their Tempo and Pace uh played a good good half of first half of basketball but just Mission critical turnovers allowed the aces to take advantage and again the sky were really beat themselves tonight they didn't have to do too much but uh they didn't want to play this game didn't want to battle it out uh if you take a look at the box score what happened tonight Chicago Sky onion wear played 31 minutes 6 to 10 finished with 15us 13 got a little ahead of the curve Angel Reese uh played some good basketball could have shot it a little better 4 12 uh free throw line four of seven pulled down 14 rebounds what I like about this is she got after it on the rebound on the defensive end didn't really hesitate or try to go after all the offensive rebounds put up three assists three Steals and minus 16 finish with 12 points cordosa 24 minutes got in fou trouble five of six four of six from the free throw line you know battled it out all night was able to produce three assist three Steals and uh minus five the entire night but you just couldn't get the minutes foul trouble kept her out Bam Bam just didn't find her way and banam just hasn't done that in a couple days okay banam shot tonight she went one for six okay one and five from the three-point line just critical turnover situational turnover minus 17 tonight and finished with three points that just really hasn't brought together uh again big notable is Harrison uh 3 for8 0 for two minus 218 points so you got something and you got the shields here couldn't find her way either so that what happened on the other end for the aces they just really went in and Asia Wilson again 30 points 35 minutes I talked about Hayes and Hayes is a different kind of player FaZe turned the whole clock on the game tonight at plus 29 so when you look at it from a whole standpoint you look at a player like hay Hayes is a just a different type of player you know the report came out and uh tonight was very interesting because Chelsea Gray played uh quick recovery from her fall uh Plum took the night off did didn't play tonight so you had uh Chelsea gay give it to you and they left it to Jackie young and Hayes and they just really just turned up Hayes is one of those players can beat you uh multiple ways uh get downhill shoot it uh but if you look at the Chicago sky and I'll break this down for you and tell you how did the Chicago Sky lose this game this game was lost tonight uh just in the second quarter uh they just went off on a turnover to ch sky tonight had 20 turnovers they didn't really play it as well as they could but they just got beat in bad situations you know you make a good play and they destroy it by making a bad play and what do I mean by that if you looked at it every time the sky made a good play okay here it is you get a good block you get a good defensive stop you're transition the other way you know you turn it over I mean banam had one of the crucial turnovers tonight you make a good stop on AJ Wilson you get the block Milo C do so you going the other way you got transition and then what happens is you turn it over trying to make a crossr pass I mean and Asia Wilson sitting back there for an easy bucket so did Asia Wilson play great basketball tonight I mean you could you say 30 points I wasn't overly impressed here's where I knew they'd have a problem to match up Camilo cardosa on the perimeter uh going out there playing against AIA Wilson that's a matchup you're going to lose every night uh let's be honest that's a matchup you're going to lose every night night that's why I'd say they got to split that Duty I really was expecting to see Angel Reese take Asia Wilson okay had a couple times opportunity there they really shut her down and then they went back to it and put cordosa and and here's the deal a if they're going to put you out on the perimeter and you're going to get to the Elbow obviously we know that okay you get to the left elbow AJ Wilson's going to shoot that going to shoot the right elbow okay I think they did a great job of putting a hand on her putting a hand in her face and I think that shut her down in the actual uh first half and and if you look at it if you go back to it and you look at it you say well what really happened okay you came out tonight in the first quarter okay Las Vegas won the first quarter 17-13 so you're making the plays you need to make it's just that you can't figure out how to get through that second quarter they exploded 30 to 18 okay but let's look at it the Chicago Sky did not lose that okay by playing aggressive basketball they lost that by mental mistakes and turnovers in the second quarter that the Las Vegas Aces were able to capitalize on you cannot play situational basketball and revert back to it I mean everyone had a crucial turnover you did see a little spark out of Evans okay was able to show some but I'll tell you the shields she can't find her way I mean it's just struggle points right now of The Shield is finding her way what should I be doing what can I not be doing and when you do that the only time you have to get back in the game is you revert back to 101 and it just doesn't work itself out um you got where wither spoon let it come out I mean you got the press conference and they let it come out they really just kind of Express themselves of what happened you know how are they looking at it how are they seeing it how is it supposed to all work out because this thing has got a kind of mystery to it and and when I say a mystery it's a mystery to say what are we supposed to do how are we supposed to do it and how is this supposed to work out and I don't think we found that edge just yet and I don't think they actually know what they want to do in that Arena but let's take a listen and we'll see what the thought process um so I guess now in this moment what's what's kind of the message in the locker room amongst the players um it's just a a next game mentality this league is so good if you soak in this loss and you soak in it you you will not be good for the next game so we just got to be ready to play I mean it doesn't stop we don't give up we're not going to quit we want to get in the playoffs that's obviously the goal um so just stay focused and St together and then Izzy just for you D another veteran presence on this team like what's the approach to making sure that that mentality that Dana just described stays like up there stays kind of existing I think it's just having that belief within oursel too though because we can say it but you truly have to like grasp that and obtain that for yourself and as a team we just have to continue to remain positive and continue talking to each other on the bench and in the locker room and um yeah we can't hang hang our heads right now because the season isn't over we have so much more work to do and this is a great group I don't care what anybody says this is a really good group and I we're going to figure it out I truly believe that now folks that's where you got to you got to kind of find your way and you got to kind of draw the line it's a great group we we really appreciate the effort that everybody's giv on the Chicago sky but also you got to be willing to accept the fact that you know the great group is not getting it done on the court and when you get that kind of situation no matter how great you are no matter how great you play when it comes to being a professional you have responsibilities and duties and that's what these players are got to get to an understanding of situational basketball because you actually got into the right sets tonight you got into the right offense you were into the right defense when he came time to make a player the Chicago Sky needed to make a play the play wasn't there for them to make and I think that was a big consolation and a big loss for them tonight on the court the message specifically tonight after pretty much the same thing that we saying we can't we can't hang our heads we can't give up um we still can get in the playoffs so we gota keep just remembering that like it's not over for us we still have a fighting chance so just staying together um blocking out the outside outside noise and just being ready for the next game we got La next so la there there's there's a question point I got for you right there and why do I have that question point because if you're talking about your goal is to get to the playoffs and you've got a higher reach of verbal verbal um gymnastics going on there when I say a higher reach of verbal gymnastics you're saying you're trying to make the playoffs the only way you can make the playoffs is to win a game so you have to bring the playoff level down and actually speak in the right term of saying we're just trying to win a game okay that that's where the Chicago sky are and and the winning the game tonight the game was lost in situation obas okay there were certain key moments in the second quarter where the Chicago Sky defense held its own but because of a turnover okay of not making the correct decision that's where the game was lost and that's where the accountability has to be brought in and has to be accepted by the Chicago Sky Go Carly Bell on Zoom hi players um this question is for Izzy Izzy what's uh progression have you seen out of Camila cardoso's growth both inside the paint and just as a post player especially here in the second half of the season um back to what I was saying earlier I feel like mill is getting more comfortable with her size honestly um and being able to play in this league and she's always had that physicality but to be able to pair it with her um footwork and just being able to take her time I think she just has so much more trust in herself and using both hands um equally and she's doing really well and she's starting to finish more around the basket so we continuously look for M and because she's a huge Advantage for us so I think that's also given her um the confidence that she's that she's having and then this can go to either of you um turnovers again today but you had 11 in the first half and only four in the second half what was the messaging that was said in the second half to just try and limit those turnovers and how do you want to carry that moving forward take care of the ball we we got to be better I got to be better um just unacceptable we just been saying the same thing we just watch film get in the gym and be better and I and I told you this folks and I told you when you get to this stage and you talk about walk watching film as a player okay that's the ball game right there great job by the reporter coming forth and saying in the second quarter you had 11 turnovers situational basketball the Chicago Sky lost this game in the second quarter with the 11 turnovers okay and here you got Evans has got to realize that's where we lost the ball game you can execute you can manufacture points that's exactly what the Chicago Sky were doing okay and they had a great Tempo they were playing G great defense against the Los Vegas Aces however when they got to the stage and it got to the point okay in the second quarter after being in there battling out holding the Las Vegas Aces I'll say this to Chicago Sky defense get a great job tonight containing the Las Vegas Aces they got in there 17 to 13 in the second quarter they lost their way with 11 turnovers second half they played them pretty much even basketball but that's where the game was lost and that situational basketball you can't overcome what your mistakes are but you can understand the mistakes and how you must manage them as you go forward thank you any players or thank you Izzy thank you Dana [Music] than yeah yeah coach um yeah like mentality how how do you how do you keep them up seven games well they you know they spoke well of uh what messages have been uh they know what the goal is uh and we're going to stay up we're not a team that gives up we're not a team that's going to throw in the towel we know we still have a fighting freaking chance and uh we have to get out there and play the type of basketball we know we can play in order to win games now when we talk about that the most important thing is to protect the ball value possessions value possessions at least get a shot no matter what at least get a shot up and they recogniz that but we have to be better with it you know can talk it but when you're playing it you got to do it so we got to be and that's a key point right there folks is what she's saying is you got to get better with what you're doing okay it's easy to talk about it but you got to go out on the court and do it and when again when you take the second quarter uh Chicago Sky you know they end up in the first half 11 turnovers you only get four turnovers okay in the second half so you played that one out pretty even you just lost the ball game in the second quarter and there's not a whole lot you can do to overcome that okay there's not a whole lot that was in the decision making that coach Witherspoon could jump on the court and play for the players uh they were just flat out just situational basketball turnover what do I mean by situational you make a great play on the defense but then you turn it over and you give the buckets off the easy turnovers and it's hard to overcome that as a team and that's really what they faced and be able to get the ball where it needs to be like I always say to the right person at the right time when talking about your two rookies specifically I mean both of them have come in and talked about how they come from like extremely winning programs they they didn't lose much and obviously being a rookie in this league is a challenge losing seven straight is a challenge how are you talking to them and keeping their confidence high at this moment oh yeah when you're honest with it losing is not is it's not a cute thing it doesn't feel good it's not a feel-good thing so you take that feeling that you have that doesn't feel good to lose and when you step into practice that feeling that you have is a I don't want to feel like this I don't want this feeling that's a harder fight that has to be in us to go get a win it's a harder fight everybody's fighting not just us but everybody's fighting in this game you just have to fight harder and be smarter in the fight and that's where we are right now and that's a big step for the Chicago Sky that's a huge step to be in the fight okay understand and it's like a box where you're training but you also have to understand why you're throwing punches as the Chicago Sky did tonight against the aces you also will be taking punches and you got to make sure you duck and those possessions in that second quarter I mean that's just flat out the ball game folks and I and and and when I look at that and I say okay how much better can you get from that I mean the players have to take ownership but if you look at it the Chicago sky tonight played a a perfect first quarter they held the Las Vegas Aces to 17 points 13 points they scored they went into the second quarter they picked it up scored 18 but the turnovers allowed them to play get 30 points off of that so they took something of a lead okay that the they couldn't overcome okay so you go into halftime 4731 what happens in the third you play it straight up 2120 you play the fourth about the same 22 to 20 okay that's where the aces got it and the collapse down at the end carried him a little further I I I I'll I'll say this now I'll say this going in the future the matchup is really Angel Reese and Asia Wilson and that and and Angel Reese has got to take that matchup I understand there's not much gas left in the tank Angel Reese played a great ball game tonight really got on that on the defensive end really really stepped up play some manto man and again got a little tired winded at the end and and you can't you if if you put Caro cordosa and you have Caro cordosa guard Angel ree they're going to win that matchup every time I mean this matchup with AJ Wilson I'll tell you from a basketball perspective you're going to have to switch that up you're going to need almost like a wing okay or another a smaller power forward someone who could stay in front of AIA Wilson because if you've got her lifting up and she's got you going up and then she's going to put the dribble drive going to go right down there and get it off the bounce I mean that's downhill and of course the thing is when when AJ Wilson can go downhill here's the most surprising thing I see when you play the aces this is something um that's got to be corrected anybody that's scouting you got to have a Wilson running into another body and there's got to be somebody that's not fearful okay that can step in there okay and is willing to accept that play because AIA son cannot have players reaching and giving her up easy laps and that that's kind of what they did the Chicago Sky played as well as they could okay they were disciplined they had a bad quarter they're they're still talking about in the press conference the players uh we want to be in the playoffs but it's more than that how about we just want to win a game okay cuz when you drop seven straight the playoffs cannot be something you're thinking of this is a young team but it's got some veterans okay and again I'll mention bham I mean Rachel bham just didn't I I don't get it I don't I don't I don't understand it and you make a crucial turnover to just really shut your momentum down okay but you're also not knocking down three-point shots it's a different way of playing basketball wither spoon is stomaching it this is uh coming down to the Chicago Sky fans I can say this trust the process trust the process that that'll be my motto going forward I expected an upset they had it in leverage they had it within the reach the second quarter they folded uh but nevertheless they played some good basketball there were some positives that I did see from the Chicago sky
