season matchup for both sides we are previewing predicting breaking it all down and helping me do so my good friend Dave shoemate Dave what's going on man I appreciate you taking the time yeah appreciate you CP no this is this is a big one this feels kind of like a must we hate saying that week too but it does feel like it's a very big one for Sam Pitman in Arkansas from a standpoint of building up some momentum we've talked about it all season they need to get one of those first two Road games at okahoma state or at Auburn well at Oklahoma state is here we'll see it on Saturday afternoon I'm fired up to see this one I me this is a team an Oklahoma State team um that has some star power obviously Ali Ali Gordon this a team that played in the Big 12 championship game last year they're picked by a lot to win the Big 12 play in Dallas playing Arlington for the Big 12 title again this is an Arkansas team that people are kind of like yeah you scored every drive against Arkansas Pine Bluff but Arkansas Pine Bluff is a SWAT team tough to take a lot from it you look f on defense ton green kind of looks like he's going to be that guy Bobby patrino kind of molds into becoming a really good quarterback in this league especially throughout this year and on to next year how does Bobby P kind of scheme up an Oklahoma State team that was getting some yards put on him this past weekend a little bit I mean South Dakota State moved the football consistently on him Bobby Bobby patrino one of the best schemers tech uh T technical offensive play calls we've seen probably in my lifetime going back to his Louisville and arkas days when he was the head coach so I'm excited to see how he kind of puts together that game plan um against an Oklahoma State Defense that I think is very Su susceptible to giving up chunk plays and I think Travis Williams how aggressive will he be I mean they're in cover zero a lot they selling out uh to stop Oly Jordan I think that's gonna be a big question mark as well Dave like you mentioned early season implications on this one Oklahoma State a college football playoff hopeful and Arkansas well they're just hoping to not have to make a coach change at some point this year again this game you know what's interesting Dave maybe somewhat being lost in the shuffle because we've got like Texas Michigan and tennessy NC State and there's some other big ones but I am very excited to watch the Hogs and Cowboys do battle again a lot riding on this early season matchup this Saturday a noon Eastern Time kick on ABC again in Stillwater Oklahoma at Boon picking Stadium Dave the line in this one has actually come down I believe Oki State open around a nine or nine and a half Sunday that line is now down to Arkansas plus seven and a half so there's some Believers in the hogs out there the over under set at 62 and a half uh the series history Dave these two teams have met a fair amount Arkansas leads the series 305 and one but the last time they met 1980 when Arkansas beat Oklahoma State by a final score of 33 to 20 we mentioned the Cowboys Dave they're one and0 beat South Dakota State 44 to20 in week one that was a game interesting enough Dave lot of folks were on the jack rabbits they thought maybe the upset that was a low line wasn't it was it like n it was nine it was single digits it was single digits and Oklahoma State rolls in this one Allan Bowman their starting quarterback went 25 of 34 267 three touchdowns no picks Ali Gordon was fantastic you mentioned he is the star of this team 27 carries 104 yards he had two touchdowns on the ground and he had a receiving touchdown as well uh Brennan Presley deson stribling Rashad Owens they're all back at wide receiver they are their Bell Cals at that position and they are the guys that really shine in that first game Dave what'll be the big question mark for Oklahoma State this year is the defensive side last year they were 86th in scoring defense 111th in pass efficiency but Dave this is a veteran team this is an old team 20 starters are back they've got a quarterback that's like 30 years old right so it's a veteran team it's an experienced team let's talk about the Cowboys for just a moment what do you like about this group and how did you view them coming in this season uh Oklahoma State's a team I feel like they're just inconsistent year to year sometimes I feel even last year I me they got beat by South Alabama at home by 30 they end up going to the big 12 title game I mean they got beat bad in that but Texas was a playoff team but it's kind of every year under mik Gundy a lot of ups and downs roller coaster years besides their 2011 team that uh ended up just losing that one game to Iowa State and got left out of the national championship game I'll be interested to see how Oklahoma State kind of matches up from their offensive line standpoint against the defensive front that's probably a little bit under the radar for Arkansas outside of Landon Jack uh Landon Jackson they got some guys like Eric Gregory on the inside and stuff like that H how do they match up because like you said it's a veteran team for Oklahoma State led by a veteran guy Ali Gordon um I'll be interested to see how the second level of Arkansas's defense kind of hand hands up as well xaven Sor the Georgia transfer struggled to crack in at Georgia but apparently they were really high on him it's just he needed to go play and apparently he's been a wrecking ball for Arkansas how aggressive will they be are they gonna send a bunch of run blitzes at Oklahoma State I'll be interested to see from that perspective defense I think Oklahoma State's gonna give up yards I think they really is I think Arkansas for them to win they're gonna have to scheme up and score from far I again it's too early to tell I think to really know how Arkansas State I mean sorry Oklahoma State's red zone defense is but I think it'll be in Arkansas's best benefit to score from far I'm expecting a a good amount of points in this game I think both teams are going to be able to scheme each other up well maybe it's early a defensive game they defenses are throwing some different looks both coordinators especially Travis Williams early at these teams but they're going to settle in adjust and I think some points are going to take off here at some point because I think you're you have two good of offensive play callers for them to not get into their uh kind of GrooVe settle into this game at some point yeah Dave to your point as we dive into this matchup I mentioned that over under total of 62 and a half it was 59 and a half yesterday so people are hammering the over they're expecting points and I tend to agree with them as as we dive into it Dave again the question in this game is can you slow down Ali Gordon I mean that that is really to have a chance you're not going to stop him Dave but you gotta slow him down you you have to be able to limit him because if he runs wild you you might as well just forget it I mean it's Oklahoma State's going to control the football control the clock control time of possession you're not going to get your hands on it enough and it's going to get out of hand it could get out of hand quickly um you know you mentioned zavan Sor you know po Paul Jr was one of the biggest losses I thought over the offseason that one really hurt Arkansas I am curious to see like you mentioned the second level I mean I think they can beat you Oklahoma State can beat you in a multitude of ways and to your point I think you're probably just gonna have to go back and forth and keep up with them offensively but you gotta at least slow down Ali Gordon right I mean that I feel like that's the key for Arkansas in this one yeah you probably do have to sell out on the R I think oklah state is a solid receiving group I mean bran Presley ton chatron nobody that Wows you but definitely solid yeah solid group kind of across the board is by committee approach if you want to call it it receiver from that perspective but you're right I feel like I mean if you're if you're game planning Oklahoma State right now after one game seeing them playing South Dakota State it's kind of like yeah I think we gotta go into this game if I'm Travis Williams we gotta sell out stop the run and from there we'll go if they can't do anything then awesome but if we got to adjust we will but I think we got to go in initially with the game plan hey we're slowing Ali Gordon down their best player is not beating us we're going to take away their best weapon we're going to make them beat us offensively with one hand tied behind their back and if they do that if Alan Bowman and those receivers I named can ultimately do that then you tip their cap you tip your cap to them at the end of the day but their best player arguably the best running back in college football is not going to go beat me I'm selling out on the run this running back is not beat me and I think Travis Williams probably would feel the same way if you talk to him and Dave it's much easier said than done certainly because again that's a big physical offensive line at Oklahoma State all five starters back like I think it's I think it's an offensive line Dave that could win the Joe Moore award I mean really if you're Paving the way for yeah if you're Paving the way for the running back that who knows I mean this kid may lead all of college football in rushing yards you're gonna be in that conversation you know I I think both teams Dave to your point they're G to be able to move the football I think obviously it goes without saying turnovers are GNA play a big factor I look at the quarterbacks though Allan bin for Oklahoma State we mentioned veteran guy that's an understatement and then TN green on the Arkansas side you know I don't know if it really got lost in the shuffle because T ton Green's going to be able to run the football I mean I know it was Pine Bluff but if you got ability you got ability Dave and the way he was able to scoot and get outside the pocket that run he had you know right at halftime to score the touchdown he was a wizard back there in the pocket but he also made a couple nice throws he he he fit a couple balls in some windows he had that beautiful lob pass to the corner of the end zone they're G to need more of that from T and green right they're going to need more of that I think to have a good game through the air he's gonna have to because I think both sides are going to make it a point to slow down the running games and I am curious Dave can Arkansas run the football conventionally right I mean all the questions were around their offensive line take nothing from Pine Bluff we learn nothing this is where we're going to start to learn is the offensive line better did it take steps forward can you establish the running game with jindon Jackson who I thought looked really really good in week one the Utah transfer can you establish a traditional running game start working off some play action and can t and green fit those balls down the field like we've seen him do back in the spring game then of course we come but a different challenge Oki State not great on defense they weren't great against the pass last year but to your point they're gonna have to get the best version of ton Green in this one to have a shot yeah for sure like you said I mean newo offensive line coach Eric Mato his first year in fville um with Cody Kennedy moving to start B it's a big game except for guys like Fernando Carmona the transfer they brought in from San Jose State guys like Addison nck go at the center spot am Marian Harris Josh Brun like it's kind of their chance to go take that step another guy I would keep an eye on I feel he's kind of under the radar in a lot of people's list because he got hurt early on but true freshman or he's a sophomore true sophomore lukah Luke has he's a player I I feel like Bobby patrino would love to scheme up some stuff for this week because I think he flies under the radar because he was having a good season a good freshman season until he got hurt in that Texas A&M game last year go go watch the LSU game last year he was that was probably you know his best schemed up game now granted it was LSU's defense last year and everybody was put SEC unfiltered family our team was putting up points on LSU defense last year but to my point I think lucaz lucaz will be a a impact player in this game I think he could kind of come out here I I like Arkansas's receivers Who as a group not really a real dude either but again another group Andrew Armstrong Tyron Broden Isaiah sna Isaac Tesla guys like that or guys who could have a big game as well I I think the Arkansas wide receiver room is actually very I think they probably have the advantage at wide receiver in this game yeah I think I think their receivers are I think their receivers are a little bit slept on like I think it's a really really talented group um lot of ability in that room and I think they'll have a big day in this one you know you mentioned Dave Bobby patrino both sides are gonna score you gotta find a way to get some stops but it does feel like if Arkansas is gonna pull this off it's I think Dave we're gonna be looking back if I had to predict the storyline if Arkansas goes into still water and wins the victory that Bobby built because it it's it's going to come down to him scheming things up scheming some guys open you know scheming TN Green in the quarterback run game a little bit getting him outside of the pocket like I I just it's going to come down to that I think this is where we could really start to see that Bobby patrino effect Dave again I mean you go 10 for 10 on touchdown drives that's great impressive air yeah it is it is it really is um and you're not asking Arkansas to score 70 in this one but I I think this is where we'll really start to see if Arkansas gets the win it's like there it is like this is why everybody was so excited he's back in fville yeah this is the game everybody circled yeah even Arkansas fans realistic fans that keep up with Arkansas at all like it's the game that they need it's winnable Oklahoma State's a good veteran Squad you mentioned they're coming off a big 12 title game appearance this should be a very big win for s p but you're right feels like it's gonna have a very Bobby patrino feel to it if we're sitting here come 3:30 on Saturday afternoon if Aransas W it wins it's going to be a big day for uh Bobby Patrina I think on the defensive side of the ball we probably be talking about some turnovers some key turnovers because I again I don't think Arkansas's defense and their Styles fit to just be shut down lock down I mean it's tough for anybody to really play that kind of style of football in today's game but it does feel like they could be pretty opportunistic of defense this year setting up negative plays forcing turnovers wouldn't shot me if they're in that if they're plus two maybe three in the turnover margin if arets over to pull out that win probably closer to two but still I think they're gonna have to force some turnovers Travis Williams in that group and Dave good news it's still early in the season for Travis Williams so they haven't yeah it's not November yet you talk about their late season slides we're not quite there yet so uh we still should be able to get to see the best version of Travis Williams defenses I you know I'm also excited Dave again talking about the offense sticking with that again I don't care who the opponent is like I knew ton green could run but seeing him against Pine Bluff I mean again this dude is a magician back there you have to think how does that affect this ball game his ability to get outside of the pocket extend plays you know pick up critical third Downs with his legs it's just another thing for Oklahoma State defensively to account for obviously going to be a huge key in this game for both sides right ton green getting those plays and Oklahoma State limiting them Dave let's talk about we're not going to dance around this issue you mentioned this game you mentioned the Auburn game but let let's focus on this one the importance of this game to the Sam Pitman tenure in F bill you know even if you you don't win it Dave even if you don't win it we just saw it in Gainesville last weekend there's a difference between losing and losing right like looking bad doing it it definitely feels like this is a game Dave that all right cool you took care of Pine Bluff now let's see how much of strides you've made has the offensive line gotten better is the offense as a whole better does this look more like a product Arkansas fans can be proud of winter lose it feels like it is a massive game for Sam Pitman and the Optics of him extending his tenure there at Arkansas yeah remember remember they were competitive in games last year on the road at LSU Old Miss Alabama they were they Dave they were better on the road they were far better on the road they kind of that screw into the they were away from home for like four or five straight weeks remember and they were getting crushed at home and so you know they were actually happy I think to leave uh the great state of Arkansas so any this is one of those games again like it's not something that Sam Pitman just has been getting embarrass his whole care he's been on the cusp of getting big wins before I think obviously going into this game you got like you said you can't get embarrassed you got to go in the road and show out but I do think Arkansas fans are to the point now a little bit like let's get over the hum man we think we're on the same level as an Oklahoma State team the only reason why they play for conference championships is because they're in an easier conference if I'm an Arkansas fan I'm probably thinking that it's like hey man I knew they got a lot of guys back but pit it's year four baby we we got to step up um and go win a big road game under year he beat LSU before in the road but I think this is for the Sam Pitman tenure and maybe for the potential of like maybe longterm Bobby patrino this is the first step in that direction we still have 10 more games after this one but it starts this week in Stillwater we've mentioned it they got to get one of these first two Road ones why not go get the first one um who knows if it's the easier one probably too tell too early to tell with alurn with auburn but it's a very it's a very winnable game because I think they're going to be able to move the football against Oklahoma State it's just can't I think they're going to have to score from far I I think I'm going to want to see them have three to four explosive plays for scores again once you start getting in that red zone obviously the field gets more condensed more mistakes are likely to happen smaller compact you're making tighter throws I I if I'm Bobby I'm sitting there I'm kind of like yeah we need to score from far we need to score far I'm saying Pitman It's Kind like we're not gonna play possession away from these guys at Oklahoma State we're not that scared of them offensively but I think overall it's a big it's a big game this like you said one of the more under the radar games in the country and you mentioned too Dave for the Hogs their schedule you know how the back half sets up this is important to stack some wins early it is because the schedule is I mean it gets crazy there starting about yeah Midway and some of the SEC match ups you have so this is one I mean again give Oklahoma State their credit ranked in the top 20 you know favorite to win the Big 12 but this is a pretty damn winnable game compared to some of the others you've got down the stretch so you take advantage uh Dave let's go ahead and lock in some predictions I'll let you start Arkansas Oklahoma State in still waterer who comes out on top I love Arkansas and the points and I've gone back to who will win this game I I just I trust Bobby Betrina I mean I saw how South Dakota state was moving the football in Oklahoma State last week and I think Arkansas has much better personel to be able to move the football in Oklahoma State as well I think it may start off a little sluggish but I think they really get it going towards the end of the first half through the halftime adjustments I I think we're going to see some I think Arkansas gets the job done 3430 I think be something like that 3430 um I think Travis Williams and them get a big stop at the end turnover on Downs defense plays a little bit better than expected but they're going to give up their own it's today's college football is what it is and they're aggressive style they're in cover zero a lot I think they're going to sell out to stop the run where they go from there Oklahoma State an adjustment I don't know they're probably going to take their shots against the secondary in Arkansas still has some question marks in itself but I think overall like you mentioned the story is going to be Bobby patrino and them think ton green we talk about Nico eay lava we talk about Jackson Arnold I think ton Green's that other young guy we could be talking heading head talking big time a headline standpoint heading into next season hell Arkansas maybe having to fight off people to keep him out of the portal this is that kind of game that goes the right the step in the right direction for ton Green in this Arkansas offense I think we're going to be talking about t green as a big time quarterback after this game I think Arkansas gets a big one I think they get a big one I think when it came out the line nine and a half that's way too many give me the Hogs not only just in the points but I think they win the game up um up straight up as well Dave first off I love the over in this game I think there's going to be a lot of points I I took it at 59 and a half it's up to 62 and a half I think it's going the right way there's going to be points in this game both sides are going to move the football game what I saw from Oklahoma State in week one against South Dakota State you got a big win but they gave up yards I mean almost 400 of them so I think Arkansas is going to be able to move the football no doubt I've gone back and forth on this one I I really I really have because I think to myself you know what Arkansas did it's it's Pine Bluff it's take it with a grain assault a lot of encouraging signs the opponent though you know you can't draw conclusions Oklahoma State on their home field veteran ball club like this is an old very old team with 20 starters total back I mean their their entire team from last year is back and I like Mike Gundy he's kind of off the wall but I do like Mike Gundy as a head coach Sam Pitman desperately needs this one and like I told you if Arkansas gets the win I think it's going to be the game BBY patrino build if you will their path to Victory he's gonna have to scheme them up old team on their home field but what I will say Dave Oklahoma State early in seasons has been wildly inconsistent kind it feels like it always takes Oklahoma State to kind of get going in a for whatever reason I don't know I'm not that plugged into Oklahoma State football from that perspective internally to tell you why that would be happen but you're right it always seems like they either play really ugly against Bad teams and win or it's like you said like South Alabama wasn't a bad team last year but they got rocked at home against South Alabama who ended up just being like a six and six Sun Bel team but you're right it feels like they get a sluggish start I think Arkansas is goingon to be really hungry for this one as well early in Seasons Oklahoma State wildly inconsistent it's a veteran team it's a team with star power with Ali Gordon but Count Me In as a believer of Bobby patrino and the Arkansas Razer backs I think they're going to be hungry I think they're going to be desperate it's a game they have to have Sam Pitman desperately needs it especially when you look at the back half the schedule the other challenges and Conference play they have coming up I hammered Arkansas in the off season I was picking the Hogs to win this game months ago I'm gonna stick with that pick Dave I like Bobby patrino to scheme it up I think the difference in this game the Hogs are able to slow down Ali Gordon enough but it's going to be a couple big turnovers I think Travis Williams they took strides last year defensively I think they're going to do so yet again this year it's not that late season fade quite yet that and Arkansas's as healthy as they're going to be all year so like you like you're mentioning if this is midye Arkansas's depths taking a shot yeah probably not especially up front I think they could probably Le but you're right this is as healthy as Arkansas is gonna be you're getting them early in the year that's that's a tough again it's like non conference game it is what it is but yeah I mean I'm with you I I just get a weird feeling just get a weird feeling yeah Arkansas needs it I think they will get it lock me in give me Hogs 31 or excuse me Hogs 34 Oklahoma State 31 so you and I very similar in our score prediction that was by accident but I I do think again I think Bobby patrino has a great plan in place I like what I saw from ton Green in week one I know who the opponent was but the dynamic nature in which I think he'll give Oklahoma State fits with his arm and his legs jaquin and Jackson in the running game both offenses are going to succeed both offenses are going to put up points I think it's Arkansas that gets a couple key turnovers in this game and they get a much-needed win I mean I think for Sam Pitman and Company this is going to be a huge huge boost and does it mean he's gonna keep his job does it mean Arkansas is gonna win seven or eight games we have no idea but for a Hogs team that has to have it Dave I think they will get it 3431 Arkansas gets the dub so and I think it again would spell a massive early season win I do think I I think the game being early in the day too Dave you know you love these 11: am local times as a road team yeah think they'll take advantage I don't I don't think Boon pickings is going to be I don't I don't Factor home fit Advantage really in this one so yeah Road team looking for an upset I mean it's not a major upset but like to go get a road win and in a spot people are predicting you against or a lot you're right 11: am's a solid spot if you're a road team coming into it's not gonna be sleepy because it's the first big game for Oklahoma State at home but I'm with you 11 am spot you can come up kind of shock them hit them in the mouth real quick to start out the game so guys what do you think Arkansas travels to
