Sooners in the 2024 college football season as we pull up their schedule and each of my selections now Oklahoma folks bear with me because what I've learned over the past couple months what I learned talking to Oklahoma media types at SEC media days is this speaking on Oklahoma football to win seven or eight games is Blasphemous but hang in there with me hang in there with me and hear me out as we take a look at Oklahoma's schedule the SEC did this program no favors in their first year in the SEC I I mean this is one of the most difficult slates that the Southeastern Conference has to offer right we start beginning of the season right nonconference play you open up on that Friday August the 30th against Temple you're G to get a big win there Houston on September the 7th they're not what they used to be you're G to get a big win there then you've got to Lane all these games of course in Norman Oklahoma Saturday September the 14th I think you get a big win there if we see any issues in the non-conference early on things may be more dire than we realize even with the offensive line questions though guys and you know Jackson Arnold is he quite ready to set Oklahoma's got enough topend Talent guys they've got enough on the defensive side alone to ride those guys to the first three weeks of the season it's an elite level defense and I know Oklahoma fans are about tired of hearing about it but it's all about that offensive line it's all about line of scrimmage play and of course the question surrounding Jackson Arnold supremely talented Gunslinger could maybe put the ball In Harm's Way especially if he's under duress Under Pressure I don't think that's G to much matter the first three weeks Oklahoma's gonna start three and0 I don't think there's much debate about that then you've got I don't want to say the biggest game in school history for Oklahoma because this is a program that's won national championships conference championships definitely not go in to say that but one of the biggest games and one of the most highly anticipated matchups I'd have to imagine in recent memory for Oklahoma football you've got the Tennessee Volunteers Coming to Town the SEC opener the SEC debut for Oklahoma football as a whole oh also by the way Tennessee is a preseason college football playoff favorite Tennessee's head coach Josh hyp was the starting quarterback in Norman the last time the Oklahoma Sooners won the National Championship you talk about hype you talk about anticipation you talk about excitement and oh by the way let's sprinkle this on Top This is an Oklahoma program and an Oklahoma fan base that is pissed off been hearing all off season about the offensive line the quarterback the SEC grind the schedule all of this and you can bet that Brent ville's program is coming in with a chip on the shoulder this season I think all of that culminates in this game against Tennessee guys I'm high on Tennessee I like Tennessee I think Tennessee is g to be right there fighting for the college football playoff but in this one early on in the season I think what also benefits Oklahoma it's early on in the year your best of your best will be available on your offensive line fingers crossed right you're not going to have you're not going to be worn down from that SEC grind I mentioned right I think it's going to be a fantastic quarterback duel between Nico IAM malava and Jackson Arnold I think Oklahoma's defense and the crowd there in Norman is the difference in this one as I think Oklahoma edges out Tennessee to win their first ever SEC contest and if you think I'm crazy if you're a Tennessee fan who stumbled upon this tell me why Oklahoma's favored in Vegas right now you mix that all together the environment you mix together Oklahoma the matchup as a whole I love the matchup for the Sooners I think they do start one and0 in SEC play but like I mentioned that SEC grind I do think it's going to be kind of up and down for the Sooners this year guys and that's evident in the following week right so Oklahoma feeling good 4-0 one and0 in conference play then you get hit with the reality that is going on the road in the SEC and experiencing that Madness can occur Oklahoma fans have talked about all offseason guys they're excited not to go to Iowa State and go to Kansas and go to you know whatever other schools in the Big 12 well you're not doing that but you're gonna have to go to Jordan hair you're gonna have to go to Auburn a place where the unthinkable occurs do I think Auburn's a better football team than Oklahoma top to bottom no I think Auburn could be solid this year but I don't think they're better top to bottom that being said first SEC road trip I do think it's going to hit different and I think Auburn is going to pull the upset this is going to be a hungry Alburn team A desperate Alburn team I think this is where you could see some of the issues on the offense line start to show themselves I could see Jackson Arnold having a multiple interception kind of day and you give them folks down there on the plane something to go crazy about they'll go crazy and make your life a living hell for 60 minutes and I think that'll happen I think Oklahoma drops their first SEC Road contest to the Auburn Tigers tough loss then you've got the by week which comes at a great time ahead of the Red River rivalry the the Red River shootout as it's better known as down there at the Cotton Bowl Oklahoma taking on Texas and listen I'm going to acknowledge the fact that Texas for whatever reason is the bigger brand Oklahoma is the better program let's call it for what it is look at the history they've been the better program more Big 12 titles more national titles you name it and I'm not running away from that fact but in 2024 and I understand Oklahoma finds a way to beat Texas more often than not they've dominated this rivalry it seems even last year Texas goes the playoff who' they lose to they lost to Oklahoma that said guys I think Texas revenge on the mind I like where Texas's roster is more than I like where Oklahoma's roster is I'm not saying it's not possible because we've seen U do it before but I am siding with hookham in this ball game I I think it's backtack losses for Oklahoma I think Texas is on a mission this year I think they've got the team they've got the pieces to be a big- time Contender this year win the SEC go to the playoff maybe even win a National Championship I don't think Oklahoma's quite there yet so I've got Oklahoma dropping that game as well but I do think think you'll bounce back you're on the road the following week South excuse me you're at home the following week South Carolina comes to Norman Oklahoma uh if there's a team that potentially has more issues in the line of scrimmage than you offensively it may be the South caralina Gamecocks who knows what that offense is going to look like um again I I I think here's the thing Oklahoma's got top in Talent like there there's no debate there's no question again that defense is an elite level defense I think shut down South Carolina I think they make South Carolina onedimensional I just don't think the Gamecocks are going to have the weapons needed to move the football and I think Jackson Arnold Dion Burks uh the other wide receivers out there on the outside which there are plenty of Gavin Sawchuk in the running game I think you're gonna see that offense even start to click more and more Jackson Arnold's gonna get better as this season goes I think you'll see that in this ball game against South Carolina big win for Oklahoma the following week you take on the Old Miss Rebels and again guys this schedule the SEC just did no favors I I mean having to go to Old Miss Old Miss I'm I'm I'm a Believer in the hype I think Old Miss is as good as advertised I think they show that in this game I think the rebels and I know Oklahoma fans excited for the trip to the Grove you should be I think the old Miss Rebels get the win here I think they've just got too much Firepower as good as Oklahoma's defense is this is a game they may struggle in and guys as we get further and further and further into the season I think depth is becoming more and more and more important and I think on the offensive line is really where you could see it start to show you could start to see it show later in the year that man the lack of quality depth because the first five on the o line solid beyond that things get dicey and I think you could see that starting to take effect at this point in the season following week you get a breath of fresh against the main black bears at Gaylord family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium you get a big win there then you go to Missouri Saturday November the 9th Bad Blood game folks lot of bad blood in this one a lot of bad blood I'm not saying it's a rivalry so don't come at me for that but a lot of bad blood in this one with the way the off season's gone the whole Caden green thing Eli dritz with his smug self in trash I think Oklahoma puts together one of their best performances of the season I think coming off that main game it's not a bye but it kind of is right I think you're able to rest recover you've essentially got a week and a half or so to get ready for missou I think Oklahoma puts it all together guys again I I think they're I think they're going to have that kind of potential too when Oklahoma puts it all together they can beat anybody in the conference I just don't know that we're going to get that consistently week in week out and I don't know that the schedule is conducive to that for of that team showing up week in week out but I think it will here I think Oklahoma maybe some will consider an upset probably will be considered an upset in Vegas but I think U puts it together I think offensively they have a field day against Missouri and I think Oklahoma gets a big big statement win on the road in Como then you got a bu we the following week couldn't come at a better time because the following week after that on November the 23rd you got the Alabama Crimson Tide in Norman this one's going to be a lot of fun because guys at this point what is Alabama we have no idea what version of are we getting depending on the answer to that question you could flip this game to a win because it's going to be a hostile environment there in Norman Oklahoma afternoon or night game guaranteed essentially that late in the year it is a night game either way I am gonna side with Bama right now I'm guys I think the demise and the fall Alabama's greatly exaggerated I I think Bama they're still one of the best most talented rosters in college football I think they will show that this year but a very very interesting matchup there in nor but I am siding with Alabama and then your final contest of the Season speaking of bad blood I know Oklahoma fans have got a bone to pick with these LSU folks after the 2003 what was it Sugar Bowl where I've talked to folks in Norman they said they've never been treated so badly by an opposing fan base all I'll tell you is this you might want to keep that to yourself because if LSU fans catch wind of it before this game they're G to be even worse than normal tiger bait chance of tiger bait will be raining down and I think LSU is one of those teams listen up and down very up and down lot of new pieces I think Oklahoma could go on the road and win this game but it's a tall task it is a very very tall task guys night game at Tiger Stadium good luck they call it Death Valley for a reason I do have LSU in this season finale getting the win and I think this late in the season guys like I mentioned you finish up with Bama and LSU depth I think depth is going to start to show itself especially late in the year and I think that could lead to some struggles four Boomer Sooner and that all results in a seven and five overall finish three and five in conference play now again I I know this is not going to sit well with Oklahoma fans and that's totally fine I get it having an offensive line held together by Scotch tape and a brand new quarterback is not a recipe for Success guys it it's not trust me I'm somebody who knows seen it time and time again now if Oklahoma's offensive line if they turn out for whatever reason to be way better than we all expected that seven and five I'm predicting very easily could turn into an 8 and4 or a nine and3 very easily but until I see it this league has a way of eating you alive if you're not solid in the trenches and I think there are going to be some Growing Pains Oklahoma got the short of the stick when it comes to schedules between they and their arch rival Texas this is a gauntlet I think Oklahoma is gonna feel the effects of it I think Oklahoma's going to be a really really solid football team but a really solid 7 and5 football team so guys do you agree with me do you disagree how do you feel the
