SO TELL ME LITTLE BIT ABOUT WHAT WE ARE SEEING HERE, WHEN IT WAS FOUND, WHERE IT WAS FOUND AND HOW IT WAS FOUND. >> SO QUITE A MOMENT OF DISCOVERY. I THINK FOR MOST PEOPLE, IF YOU HAVE MOVED, OR SOLD A HOUSE AT SOME POINT, EVEN AFTER JUST A FEW YEARS, YOU ACCUMULATE THINGS, TUCKED AWAY IN DRAWERS AND SO ON. SO THE FAMILY THAT OWNED THIS HAD LIVED AND CARED FOR THIS HOUSE FOR SEVEN GENERATIONS. AND AS THEY PREPARED TO MOVE IT OVER TO STATE STEWART SHIP TO PUBLIC PROPERTY, THEY WERE CLEANING THINGS OUT AND SO ON, AND IN A FILING CABINET, IN A STORAGE ROOM, OUT CAME SOME DOCUMENTS. AND THROUGH THE COURSE OF PULLING AN APPRAISE ERR THAT CAME, TO LOOK AT THOSE THINGS, AND THEN BRINGING US IN, THIS SORT OF MAGNITUDE OF THE DISCOVERY CAME TO LIGHT. AND YOU KNOW, IMAGINE LIKE GOING THROUGH YOUR FILING CABINET AND FINDING WHAT IS A CORNERSTONE OF AMERICAN DEMOCRACY. IT IS QUITE A MOMENT. >> Natasha: I CAN ONLY PLANNING. >> Reporter: AND THE IMPORTANCE OF THE DOCUMENT REALLY IS THE RARITY OF IT IS PRETTY REMARKABLE, ONLY EIGHT KNOWN COPIES OF OF THIS DOCUMENT. >> Natasha: AMAZING. HOW OLD IS THE DOCUMENT? >> SEPTEMBER 28TH, 1787 IS WHEN IT WAS PRINTED, AND CHARLES THOMPSON SIGNED IT. WITH THIS SHOWS, MOVEMENT FROM PHILADELPHIA, WHEN THE CONSTITUTIONAL CONVENTION IS DONE, TO NEW YORK, WHERE CONGRESS IS, AND SO THE CONVENTION IS ONLY REPORTING TO CONGRESS, AND THEY HAVE NO AUTHORITY TO DO ANYTHING, IT IS CONGRESS THAT DECIDES WITH THIS RESOLUTION TO SEND THE CONSTITUTION TO THE STATES FOR THE PEOPLE TO DECIDE, AND, YOU KNOW, HERE YOU CAN SEE, PAGE ONE STARTS WITH WE THE PEOPLE, THE PREAMBLE TO THE CONSTITUTION. BUT IT IS ONE SHEET OF PAPER SO THIS IS PAGE ONE. PAGE TWO AND THREE VIEWABLE ON THE BACK. AND THEN PAGE FOUR HAS THE COOLEST PARTS, AFTER THE SIGNATURE, IT IS GEORGE WASHINGTON'S COVER LETTER, AND THE RESOLUTION TO CONGRESS SAYING HERE IS OUR PROPOSAL, HERE IS WHAT WE THINK YOU SHOULD DO WITH IT, AND IN THE COVER LETTER, GEORGE WASHINGTON TALKS ABOUT THE NEED FOR CON COMPROMISE, HOW YOU HAVE TO GIVE UP A SHARE OF LIBERTY TO PRESERVE REST. SO THEY'RE EXPLAINING IT, AND SENDING IT TO THE PEOPLE. >> Natasha: WOW. THIS IS AN AMAZING DISCOVERY. SO JUST TO SEE THIS IN PERSON IS AMAZING. THIS IS EXPECTED TO FETCH WHAT AT LEAST A MILLION DOLLARS AT AUCTION? >> WELL, THAT'S THE STARTING BID, WHICH IS ALREADY MET. THERE IS NO RESERVE. IT WOULDN'T SURPRISE US THAT IT COULD GO FOR $20 MILLION OR SO. COULD BE LESS. COULD BE MORE. ANOTHER COPY OF THE CONSTITUTION SOLD AT SOTHEBY'S FOR 43.2 MILLION. IT IS NO MORE IMPORTANT THAN THIS. BUT THE PHILADELPHIA PRINTING NOT SIGNED BY ANYBODY THAT 500 COPIES WERE MADE, THIS 100 COPIES WERE MADE, BUT ONLY 26 WE THINK WERE SIGNED. AND ACTUALLY USED AT THE TIME TO GET THE WORD OUT, NO TV, NO INTERNET. HOW DO PEOPLE FIND OUT ABOUT THESE THINGS? THE GOVERNORS AND EXECUTIVES OF EACH STATE GOT ONE OF THESE DOCUMENTS SIGNED BY THOMPSON TO SHOW THIS IS THE OFFICIAL CONSTITUTION THAT YOU THEN HAVE TO DEBATE AND SHARE WITH THE PEOPLE.
