TELL ME LIES Season 2 Cast Interview! Thomas Doherty, Alicia Crowder, Sonia Mena Meaghan Oppenheimer

I have to say I am obsessed with this series it was my number one series of 2022 and I'm not kidding it's going to be my number one series of this year so Diana and Pippa have always been two of my favorite characters so congratulations to the two of you first of all thank you yes yes I mean Pippa and Diana don't have a lot of interaction in season one or if they do it's not a lot of positive interaction so I'm curious Alicia when you read the script for season 2 here were you were you going in completely blind and were you surprised about where Diana's storyline was going this season oh yeah like the you know I had like before reading the actual script I had like I think like a brief conversation that like this was going to happen but you know prior to that conversation like all during season one like I had no idea like it was a huge surprise but something that's so juicy and like I also live for the drama and like the plot twist so I was like let's go like this is awes awesome like I I was so excited yeah I mean I was very excited about all of the stuff with Alicia um it's so fun we had so much fun doing those scenes together and you said it's cool we didn't really get to work together season one so it was like such a treat to have that um in terms of the other parts of pppa storyline you know like I mean I think it was a little scary and I wanted to make sure that um I was just doing her justice and and and doing my best to take care of her and her narrative and uh um it's a very diff like delicate thing the way that it's it's threaded through and so like finding places to can remind people that it's still there even if it's not like on the page you know front and center so yeah you really do a beautiful job Sonia with your performance it's like even when you're not on screen you feel like what Pippa is going you know throughout throughout the season I am you know I am curious though I do want to ask a spoiler question because I am totally shipping Pippa and Diana I'm here for it long term so what was it like just being able to kind of switch gears and play lovers this season yeah it was really fun like I you know I think it's awesome exploring that relationship I've never gotten to do that on screen like I'm always paired with a male partner um and it was just something really like beautiful and pure about it um that I really enjoyed and that like I think the show really benefits from that a relationship that like for the most part is like healthy you know like there are you know things going on we have our own issues but um it was really it was really really nice um and like going like back to the 2008 stuff like seeing like where that started from like the very very beginning um which was really fun too like weaving that in there this actually one of some of the first things that we shot is like that that when you see us together which was it was like we were like oh my God wait okay shoot are we ready like we just we want to make sure we get it right but I mean Alicia's such a great actor and it's so fun to like it's so fun to like you said like finding this tenderness and it's just like fundamentally different um obviously having two women um together romantically in a scene like that and yeah there's just so much depth and tenderness and and just such a contrast and I I think it was just really yeah it was fun and and trying to sh they're like there're such small scenes when we see them together so trying to like throw as much color in there as possible because we don't get to know a lot about them so like just peeking it in yeah it's so fun to like you said like finding this tenderness and it's just like fundamentally different um obviously having two women um together romantically in a scene like that and yeah there's just so much depth and tenderness and and just such a contrast and I I think it was just really yeah it was fun and and trying to sh they're like they're such small scenes when we see them together so trying to like throw as much color in there as possible because we don't get to know a lot about them so like just peeking it in yeah yeah no absolutely I'm hoping more for I'm definitely like you know hoping more for season 3 well they are wrapping me congratulations again to the two of you I am so excited for audiences to see this season I told Megan I'm going to need to go to therapy after that finale Thomas Brandon and Spencer how are the three of you today doing well how are you good good congratulations to you on this season I have to say I'm obsessed with this series it was my favorite series of 2022 and it's going to be my favorite series of this year I've seen season 2 twice already so again congratulations to the three of you thank you it's yes one of the best scenes that I don't want to keep away from spoilers as much as we can but one of the best scenes this season is the Thanksgiving episode The friendsgiving at evans's house and by Wrigley's suggestion Everybody Plays slapshots so Thomas I have to know what was it like getting slapped by Jackson in that scene and take me back to set that day because it seemed like one of the more fun days on set yeah he's a strong man yeah a big hands and he wanted to practice for some reason it was H we weren't actually not we weren't allowed um but it was fun you know he's got this kind of intensity and Leo and Stephen's tension and drama kind of like really like that was like really a climax there and it was he didn't really know what was going to happen right and so yeah I really loved filming that scene and watching the scene yeah but yeah we didn't slap each other I think he might have wanted to but you couldn't Brandon you know the events of season one and like it it seems like Evan did have kind of a crush on Lucy obviously they hook up and that becomes a big plot point of the a lot of the Season 2 events with like where do you feel like evans's mindset is at like with the Bri and with Lucy because to me this season it still feels like he does love Bri but he's still kind of tiptoe you do a really great job with with your performance and playing that oh thank you uh yeah I think I think I think he's in panic mode a lot of this season uh not really knowing what to do and how to handle it and trying to do like I think at times the right thing and um I think by always trying to be the good guy you end up not the good guy sometimes and uh I think he has to learn that lesson um and is yeah is learning that lesson so it was very fun to play Just essentially stressed out the entire season uh but it was fun it was fun I had a lot of fun yeah you're not as nice as you think you are ex that that hurt that one hurt yeah that one hurt well Spencer I love Wrigley I think he's hilarious but sometimes I want to hug him sometimes I want to slap him but but no one yes the way you deliver his dialogue is so funny do you ever improv any of your lines or do you really TR Megan script A lot of the time uh I do um I don't know how much makes it in um you know some sometimes they're like hey that was funny and then a lot of times they're like hey cool it a little you know um but no no uh not not uh yeah sometime I I don't know how much make it in though yeah much made it in during uh during the Thanksgiving episode Thanksgiving episode yeah laugh a lot of that made it in yeah you're like this sucks we're playing this game that's so funny well Thomas obviously your character Leo is a new love interest for Lucy this season and we do see that he does have a darker past a deep dark past how was it like for you to into that mindset as an actor and playing Leo kind of where we meet him in the series yeah I mean when I read the script and I read the sides and read Leo that's what really and I spoke to Megan we had a zoom call um and I was able to kind of see a lot of my younger self in Leo kind of where he is right now in his journey very very similar to to to what I experience and dra next um and so that was yeah I mean quite cathartic to be able to to kind of tap into that and express that and I mean it was already written so well the Dynamics were already really well set up um so all I had to do was kind of end out with with my own experience my own emotion and try and personalize it as best I could and yeah it was quite a cathartic experience and I loved I Lov I loved it I love I love doing that um and that's a beautiful thing about being an actor as well CES but a lot of the time you do play characters and it makes you look at yourself and and question where where you stand on certain things and you already preconceived notions and ideas about life and about situations and Leo definitely made me do that oh can we learn to stop trusting Steve and everyone yeah right exactly exactly maybe maybe one maybe one day all right I appreciate you all so much have a wonderful rest of your day thanks Lauren Megan you on Season Two Season Season one was my top show of 2022 this season is going to be my top show of this year I don't need to watch anything else I'm totally obsessed so congratulations to you first of all thank you so much have you seen the whole season I've seen the entire season and I was just speaking with Grayson Jackson and I was telling them my toxic trait is shipping Lucy and Stephen and I love a good pop culture ship I'm curious for you I know your Creator and writer who are some of your favorite ships in pop culture Growing Up R now my original was Buffy and Angel I mean my most recent one was definitely flea bag and hot priest oh oh my God I love I've never wanted two characters to have sex more than I wanted them to I was just absolutely um a very important this is actually probably so the Labyrinth um with David Bowie yeah it came out before I was born but when I was like six I saw that movie and I wanted to be kidnapped by him so badly and I yeah he was my my my everything I mean he was my first my first funny butterfly feelings for sure I love that that's so cool well if season one provided Cliffhanger season two let's just triple that 10 times that I need three immediately do you have the story for the characters kind of mapped out in your head already or is it still a creative process for you it's definitely still a creative process you know I I had more of season 2 figured out from the beginning season 3 is definitely more unchartered territory but I I have there are a lot of ideas of of what could happen I think that certain characters I don't want to give any spoilers but certain characters definitely deserve justice that I think need needs to happen in if there's a season three um yeah yeah I think there's always more story to tell I need to see what happens like right now it's like the biggest Cliffhanger ever well I love the soundtracks in both season one and here the way you do soundtracks and the songs are just perfect here I think with Nightfall there's another gorgeous version of Mr bright side how do you pick the soundtracks for because it's it is a big part in telling the story it's such a big part for me um I mean it's funny because so much of I was in college at the time of this show and so so much of of the show is you know it's like my high school and college playlists same for you and I are same age so same so it's very nostalgic and it's it feels great um to be able to do that but I I create a playlist at the beginning of each season um um and there were a lot of songs I wasn't able to fit into season one that I just moved onto the playlist for season two and I do as I'm writing the episodes or planning the episodes I do kind of know what songs need to be with certain moments I I had that Montage in my head but I felt like lond London Grammar in general a lot of their songs just felt like breeze storyline this season um and like strong the other song by them just felt like a Brie moment um yeah and then you know that cat Miss who plays Brie actually sings the cover of crazy and sings the cover of Mr bright side at the end of the season the two yeah that's cat and Cat demos yeah I cat's an amazing musician and I had uh talked to them before we started and said you know I want let's create an original song for the season and then um I realized like let's do a call back to something we'd already used and yeah they came up with those demos and it was just great and then Jay Wadley are uh composer worked with cat on them and they did a great job I love the score the score is so good the score like haunts me you know when I'm driving my car Jay is so talented and he's so good at what he does yeah no so good I feel like I don't know myself right now that cat's saying that but I'm obsessed now and I need to listen to it after this interview um well I loved Tom this season I recently spoke to him for his Netflix series exploding kittens and of course I mentioned this series in that I could not wait to see the rest of it what was it like being able to work with him and just direct him here because I loved the character of Oliver and how you wrote the character there's just so many Surprises with that storyline thank you um it was so nice to have him on set we work really well together um we're really I mean we just we have a lot of fun we make each other laugh and I think he's definitely a calming energy to me it's so stressful running a show and having my best friend there is just like so so great but also I think um it it's such a delicate storyline and we were asking a lot of cat to have to be in that vulnerable storyline and so I was really relieved that I had an actor I knew was a good person um and that was safe in in that Dynamic and so that was um really freeing and I thought he did a great job he was just too friendly at first I was like you got to stop smiling so much ol of is not that nice stop and he'd be like I don't think I'm being I'd be like you're being too 30 and too nice and he's like I don't think I'm being nice right now I'm like you are you're smiling too much I love that that's the One Direction note that you gave him do not be as nice such a nice guy he can't help it but well they are giving me the WAP I am so genuinely excited for fans and audiences to see season 2 I'm going to be like looking for the fan reactions after every single episode because there are Bombshells in every single episode and so many spoilers so so nice to chat with you Megan and I hope that you're still developing the series with Emma and Tom's second wife are you still developing that H we are hopefully we'll have news we can put out about that soon it's um it's very fun I'm very very excited it's uh it's as toxic I would say but it's a lot funnier it's it's it's much more of a comedy than but it's it's it's dark it's a dark comedy oh I'm excited well I love Emma and everything and I spoke with her for last season I love that she you guys have been working together of course on this well congratulations again make again and so nice to chat with you today so good to talk to you thank you so much say hi to your cats for me I
