B.C. power demand peaking during heat wave

Intro demand for electricity is up in British Columbia as people look to beat the heat blanketing many parts of the province it's very tough to stay cool in this weather BC Hydro says it saw a 20% BC Hydro increase in Peak hourly Demand on Sunday compared to the previous Sunday before the heat wave began and it says it's expecting demand to get higher on Monday and Tuesday as temperatures do remain Peak hourly demand high and British Colombians stick to their uh weekday routine we may see a record-breaking number over the course of the next few days but the utility Winter peak demand provider points out it's a winter peaking utility and sees the highest demand for power on the coldest and darkest days of the year the record that was set in the winter months is around Summer peak demand 11,300 megaw and in the summer at its peak it's about 3/4 of that BC Hydro How to stay cool says there are ways to stay cool without raising your power bill this includes covering your windows which can block up to 65% of the Heat entering your home lines down Windows Doors closed AC up I Pool time have been going on the slip and slide with my sister and um we have like this little kitty pool that we like Splash in and like yeah and then we go on my trampoline too so it's really fun I'm in Air conditioner the shade uh we've got an air conditioner in the house but it's it's only on one floor and it works it works in fan and uh if it gets really bad maybe we'll go into the basement no air condition in my Fans building but we try our best you know hot uh cold cold towels as much as possible you know yourself no fans but we should we I should get one I've been saying it for a few years but I should get one yeah a heat warning remains in effect for various parts of the province including Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley with daytime highs in the low to mid-30s Inland and in the upper 20s along the coast temperatures are expected to moderate starting Wednesday in Vancouver Monica ghoul City news
