BC United suspending campaign ahead of October election

Kevin Falcon and BC United won't be on the ballot in the upcoming election the party leader announcing he was withdrawing all candidates and suspending their campaign John I may only agree with about 75% of what you might uh believe in but I do know this that on his very worst day John rustad would be a far better Premier than David E on his very best day the endorsement a stark contrast from BC United messaging as recently as last week which had characterized the BC conservatives as the party of consp theorists now the leaders say they want the best chance against the bcnp with a combined slate of candidates but gave no details on which from each party would run we aren't going into any details today we are putting together a group between the two parties to do a review and to make sure that we are Fielding the best team possible many BC United and BC conservative candidates have already been nominated and it's not clear which of those candidates will hold the BC conservative Banner with just 7 weeks to the expected election date one political Observer calls it totally unprecedented in Canadian politics when asked to speculate on the reason just the realization that this car was uh about to go over a cliff and instead of Thelma and Louise going over with the cliff they they've decided to bail out of the car it isn't a guarantee voters who still support BC United will move over to the BC conservatives so it's not clear what impact this will have on the upcoming election Premier David eie was asked about it at an unrelated press conference shortly after the rumors broke I really uh don't see a huge distinction between them except that that neither of them are running as BC liberals this time because of their record they are so embarrassed with how they ran the province they both have changed their party names Falcon says BC United was facing fundraising challenges though he maintains the party will have enough money to pay off its suppliers and staff he also says money over that won't go to the BC conservatives per elections BC rules the Hope expressed by the two BC right of Center Party leaders is that this will move the needle enough to give the BC conservatives a shot to form government in Vancouver Jack moris City news
