Notre Dame UPSET by N Illinois, Texas STOMPS Michigan | College Football Week 2 Reactions!

as well who didn't leave the big house at half time but definitely wants to know where the Boneyard is even though he didn't know is a place until uh this afternoon Cody Williams content director fansided.com how the hell are you dude we're living on just pure Vibes right now uh my wife is upstairs trying to sleep cuz she's got a fight at 3:00 a.m. so yeah it's a it's a good day here in the in the household but man what a day of college football what a day it was awesome yeah we're back at um Boar's house it feels like living in simulation oh God shouts to boo bear Boo Bear he doesn't care about college football but we do yes we very much do that's why we're here yeah dude um we're doing obviously three yards in a cloud of Punt today after an absolute blowout involving the NC State podcast Sal moer uh she definitely stay up the whole thing oh yeah for sure no didn't watch a minute of it brother she could not care less the only I think the only NC State athlete she actually cares about is DJ Burns and he's no longer an NC State athlete so you know he's the big boy and he's our friend and uh this fall start so let's uh let's get the ball rolling here I'm G to run with this uh I feel Texas Blasts Michigan, SEC Locked Into 1-Seed really confident that the SEC is gonna get the number one seed in the playoff after what we saw U over the weekend um it could be Georgia it could be Texas it could be ol miss it could be Tennessee it could be missou it's not going to be Auburn it's not going to be Kentucky and it's probably not going to be Alabama we'll talk about them a little bit more later but um obviously the big game was uh Texas just doing whatever it wanted to versus Michigan yeah Michigan looks terrible I can't believe they won the national championship year ago honestly you know what that game really reminded me of was watching Georgia play Clemson last week because it felt the same thing like Michigan's defense was very good in that game Quinn ERS and Ste and Steve sarkeesian they put together a great game plan to attack it for sure which I think is you know credit to them and you know maybe the difference between SAR and a Mike Bobo starting out calling that game against Clemson but I do think like it just seemed like at a certain point Michigan's will broke just because they knew they couldn't do anything offensively and that's what it felt like with Clemson last week with Kade kumnick it felt like they couldn't necessarily get any kind of forward momentum with that and Michigan felt the same way and like as soon as as soon as Texas got up I believe it was 14 to3 I I was like this game's toast man because I like grany hindsight's 2020 and they didn't score 14 points but watching what Michigan was doing on offense it was hard to see them getting 14 points on the board yes it's exactly like the uh Georgia Clemson game last week and honestly it's basically why the Tampa Bay Buccaneers fired Tony and got John guden there cuz like the defense is like we're stopping everybody we can't score any points I don't know what Davis Warren does besides uh be the Wilton spit you have at home he's terrible Alex Orie can't throw the football um I feel bad for wink Martell side of the ball he's got Mason Graham and will Johnson they can't do anything you know your extends a few plays on Third and long gets a couple touchdowns and I'm just like yeah michig this is uh this is going to be maybe a seven and five team like you mentioned which is uh kind of frightening no it's I mean it's this team is against any type of elite competition any type of like I think the thing that we're really losing in all of this is like I'm high on Texas's defense like I didn't think it was going to be the drop off that a lot of people did but it's still a worse defense than it was last year this is not a top 10 defense in the country that they were playing today and they have to play a couple who might be top 10 defenses in the country like Penn State didn't look like it today against Bowling Green but I think Penn State wasn't trying to look like it today against Bowling Green and then they have Ohio State on the schedule obviously and we know Ohio State's defenses has has been and is still very damn good so like when you face those type of opponents like it's going to be tough and then you look at other opponents on their schedule you look at a USC like USC is going to be able to score on them just as much as Texas was because Lincoln rally is going to be able to scheme against this defense I think he that's going to be a fun chess chess match to watch with Lincoln Riley and wiek Martell facing off but I do give advantage to USC because I'm always going to give advantage to offense because the rules frankly give advantage to the offense so like I just don't like I don't see the upside with Michigan I think there's a high floor I really do because I think that this when you have a defense that that good it you have a high floor proposition but like you look back at defensive team one national championships are competed for national championships I'm thinking specifically about like the Jake Coker uh Alabama they atast had Iden this team doesn't have an identity on like they're not running the well they obviously can't throw the ball with Davis Warren and definitely not with Alex orgy so like I just don't know where like the SE like the ceiling and the floor almost seem like they're the same thing for Michigan which is not a good place to be as a defending national champion no less yeah I mean once you saw Colston Loveland like fumble a pass that he caught that should have been a first down I mean it's in their head dude they they they don't know what they're doing um it's like Michigan's kind of like honestly it's closer to ruers than they want to admit this is kind of what ruers is when ruer is good and it's uh it's a little tough there but um you know obviously Texas looked really good I think the my big take away from them is like I mean it may have been more about like Michigan completely unraveling at times because but I will say that quins looked like an NFL starting quarterback he wasn't perfect he moved around a lot he had some throws that were kind of of Target but um he knew he was going up against a really good front seven and all around good defense I thought that he showed that yeah it's certainly going to be a top 10 top five pick maybe top two pick right now he uh he certainly looked apart there and Texas they've got running backs for days and um yeah imagine if they still imagine if they still had CJ Baxter it'd be crazy dude right it it's crazy and like you know I'm I'm probably the world's number one Quinn supporter here but um this was I think the at least one of the best games that I've ever seen him play and yeah you're right it wasn't perfect but against a defense like Michigan which is about as close as you're going to get to an NFL level defense on the college level he didn't make any big mistakes like he didn't make the throw where he's trying to play Hero ball or anything like that he played within himself he played within the offense and he made the plays that needed to be made and I think the other thing that really stood out is you know I think one of the questions like we knew Sark was going to hit the transfer portal and we know he had been recruit recruiting at a high level to replace guys like Mitchell savior worthy they replaced him man like Ryan Wingo is a stud as a freshman you've got Isaiah bond out here who I mean like I think they said it on the broadcast but I mean that's the guy who won the freaking Iron Bowl last year now you know questionable if he actually caught the ball but you know um uh he oh sorry that was the Georgia game forgive me um but regardless like Isaiah bond is an absolute gamer and like this this offense is still going to absolutely Thrive because at the end of the day you have a quarterback as talented as Quinn yers who is now in his third year in the program learning this offense behind an offensive Mastermind in Steve sarkeesian like Texas Is For Real Texas is not going anywhere no I mean you look across the board like I mean yeah Isaiah Von did not catch that Georgia looked fantastic they completely lit up Tennessee Tech again Carson Carson Beck through the ball he set a School record for most touchdown passes Jackson Dart continues to be amazing for all Miss they wipe the floor middle of Tennessee Tennessee uh eventually figured out just blew the barn doors off of viny State Mala um y malava gosh I went back had a whole thing about how to pronounce his name I'm silly I can't do it y malava yes um they looked really good Tennessee's got a really good defense uh mou's kind of quietly been clobbering people they're firmly in the top 10 I feel very confident that whoever gets to Atlanta and wins is going to be the one seed and like they're the Upper Crest of the including Texas is U unless Ohio State like continues to improve and then we'll see what happens with USC later tonight we'll kind of figure that out more uh tomorrow and probably talk about that more on Monday show but right now like I can't see a way where like the SEC Champion doesn't get the One sav no and I I'll take it one step further I think it's I think you're pretty much looking at the one and the five like I think that the top at large team is definitely going to be an SEC team with the way these teams look because like literally the only thing that's going to be separating them in my opinion is going to be who won the conference Championship like that's literally the only thing separating them but like when I I just you know I just published on fansided.com the projected AP Top 25 I moved Texas up to number two so the number two the two top two teams in the country right now by my estimation are SEC teams and like when I look around the Big 10 I don't see necessarily the elite team now Ohio state did absolutely beat the breaks like Western Michigan Western Michigan might be bad like real bad because akan looked better against uh Ohio State than Western Michigan did today now maybe that's Ohio State figuring some things out will how getting more comfortable but like it's going to be a couple weeks before we see Ohio State actually play somebody Oregon currently is down 20 to 14 to uh Boise State right now uh USC like I think that we think the defense has improved but we still think there's some cracks in the armor there we saw what Michigan is today we saw that Penn State has a let down game in them today we have not seen that from the sec's elite right now outside of like I mean the teams we've talked about like you said we're going to talk about Alabama here in a second but like you know all Miss has just look like a death machine at this point like yes I understand they have not played anybody but like they've played the dominant level you'd want to play Nobody with like Jackson Jackson Dart today set the SEC record for most consecutive completions he started out 24 of 24 like it was just pure domination in pure like they Middle Tennessee never stood a chance in that game yeah no Derek Bon thought he was a Vanderbilt again basically Middle Tennessee is the Vander belt you have at home man Murphy's the naturally have it home that's right uh they wish they could drink there but they can this is false start but yeah you think about the uh the Big 10 Oregon's been struggling uh Penn State had got scared by you know pretty good Bowling Green Team um I Iowa lost Alaska and shawk and um we think Iowa's um halfway decent too and um but I guess this kind of probably goes to like our next run uh Nebraska Definitely Maybe might be good but I Nebraska Proves Itself Emphatically vs. Colorado don't know if they're great but they uh they dominated throughout the entire time with their traditional big eight rival there in Colorado man what a s back of crap that isn't Boulder right now no dude absolutely like I think we can drop them maybe I think Nebraska is just definitely good like I don't think they're great yet we saw like we saw in this Colorado game that they they had some moments where you could tell that they weren't quite comfortable with being you know great or something like that like a lot of self-inflicted wounds penalties big plays that were called back by dumb penalties and stuff like that and like that's the type of stuff that separates the good from the great and like Matt rule is still building this program building it From the Ashes of what Scott Frost left there so like you know we'll give him that grace period the fact that they're good already with a true freshman quarterback in Dylan Rola that says a lot but when I was watching them play Colorado it was hard for me to escape the fact of like or the idea of it looked like when the the elites of the Pack 12 last year would play Colorado and Colorado just looked completely outmatched that's what it looked like for 60 minutes in this game like shador Sanders was under duress the entire game Travis Hunter wasn't running freely it just looked like it was a slog for Colorado whereas Nebraska was making things run very easily the big takeaway yeah I'm right there with you I would say the big takeaway that I kind of had from it that leads me to believe that Nebraska is probably going to be good again I feel this is like going to be like an eight and4 maybe nine and three team if they take advantage although I think Illinois looked pretty sneaky good they're beating Kansas you call that yeah yeah that team's uh also Brett be's daughter's names are B and Brickley which is like I I I have to imagine that was his wife's doing because like the idea of like Bert bulima looking into someone's eyes dead serious and being like I'm gonna name this kid brixley that's just not a thing I can imagine in reality I mean you know it's like the same the girls who like live in b that like dress up for the fall they have their kids named like Paxton and brenchley and py and stuff like that what a world we're living in man jiny is jiny is cursed I know dude shout out king broccoli gonna make debut tomorrow but uh I guess to go back to kind of with like Nebraska the big thing that was my takeaway is like Nebraska did something that I haven't seen Nebraska do since I was in college like when Georgia was playing Nebraska had like the the Independence Bowl and then the Gator Bowl back to back years it's like congratulations to the mar can play Nebraska B Pini that era of Nebraska and honestly now maybe the end of Frank Sol and stuff like that like Nebraska kind of got to the point it's like they make the other people make mistakes and um they they're getting in their head like Colorado is just completely screwed right now they're just they're making mistakes it's like this um this quicksand sort of thing and Nebraska was always doing those self-inflicted nonsense under Scott Frost then under Mike Riley and then you know little bit there at the balini and everything like that but like to get back to that point where like the script is flipped and now you're doing that versus a traditional rival maybe you do that in the Big 10 then that leads me to believe that you know Nebraska can you know get more W's and L's for the first time since Obama was in office and that'd be great no I mean I think like I think they're almost a bull walk at this point behind my estimation just because like like I think we no matter what you think of Dylan Rola no matter if you think he's going to be great or is great already like I think he's better than I probably expected right now but I think the one thing we really underestimated is how much of a jump even just getting competent quarterback play from Dylan Rola is from what they had with Jeff Sims and H Hinrich harberg last year because like that was like actively detrimental to Nebraska's offense whereas Dylan Rola is an asset like he made some throws tonight where I was like okay you're doing a little too much brother and he made some great throws as well where they those plays worked out but like I think just the sheer level of talent and the sheer level of experience playing quarterback at this high of a level even if he is like doing it for the first time at the college level but I'm saying like against you know Elite high school competition like he is he was such an upgrade that he gives Nebraska such a baseline level of confidence and like you look at Nebraska last year those self-inflicted wounds that they had that ended up you know keeping them from b game they weren't on the defensive side of the ball the defense has been good for two years now like quite frankly it's been the offense and you just need some baseline level of Competency they absolutely have it now so like when you have that and this defense to go along with it this is a team that like I'm going to be like I'm not looking at their schedule right now I haven't looked at it yet you know it's been a long day it's been a busy day but like Nebraska is going to upset someone this year it's going to happen there's going to be a ranked team that either they visit or that comes to Lincoln and they're going to knock them off because they have such a strong defense and they have the Baseline competency that they're just going to catch a team slipping on a day where they may have an off day or where Nebraska just has a good game plan to punch them in the mouth and it's it's going to happen and so like eight or nine wins is not out of the question like they're not a playoff Contender they're not going even if they did sneak into the playoff they're not going to win a playoff game they're not on that level yet but like this is a team that can compete now and that's not something we've said about the Huskers in quite a bit they're going to sit Kirk fair and soft into retirement on Black Friday in corner copia dude that's oh my God it's be beautiful I guess I kind of got two thoughts about this before we probably go on to the saddest bag of crap from week two H although Dylan R playing at a bunch of different high schools including buur because who was that honestly for shout out your former high school teammate KJ Bolton looks fantastic for Georgia by the way that's right um he made the absolute right decision to go to Nebraska it's his family Zam moer yes he could have probably been like the start at Georgia next year I think he's a showing that he's better than gunar Stockton is right now certainly better than Brock Vander oh my God what a terrible quarterback he is yeah that might good call by Kirby being like hey Brock you're the one that's getting the hell out of here because uh wow wow because I you you know you were mentioning at the top of the show uh SEC teams that you're pretty sure aren't going to be the national champion or the number one seed in the playoff uh I think South Carolina I'm I'm ready to say definitively they're not but they put a hurting on Kentucky today so you know shouts to the [ __ ] uh shout out to them getting gamed day next week and shout out to Shane Beamer talking for three minutes but in the game that dude loves to talk D dude loves the sound of his own voice there's no question about it God he is Matt Sharp 1,00% it's it's very very true no wonder no wonder Rivers told you to kick rocks bro dude absolutely but no you're like yeah shouts to South Carolina for getting game day uh I don't know I didn't realiz it until today I don't think the week three slate is kind of booty cheeks man it's it next week's going to be a weird week for the show but I can't wait to get a little off the rails with it yeah we're gonna be doing this probably after Georgia Kentucky because like I'll be watching it and the other Prime Time games aren't like compelling so that's there's not a compelling game on the schedule dude there's Oregon Oregon state which like in theory is compelling but like not really because Oregon State's trash so like there's nothing compelling happening here and I forgot my other point about Nebraska it's late I'll probably bring it up later but uh we're gonna we're gonna pass on uh another Notre Dame Fooled Us All Again day yeah I'm I'm I'm an idiot with the gr idiots um this team's not a playoff threat because it's not making the playoff uh Riley Leonard is not making it's not going to be a first round pick I don't think he's going to get drafted and uh Marcus Freeman my God that guy is the Mike Tomlin of the NFL shout out my team is's playing Mike Tomlin tomorrow but Marcus Freeman will find find a way to lose a game you shouldn't when he's up like favor by 24 points it's unbelievable Northern Illinois Thomas hadock I think hammock is that Thomas hammock or Han I I can't remember off top of my head Thomas hammock I'm gonna get this right ni head C Thomas hammock yes he played there yes Legend yeah I mean shouts to him dude he got he got me a little emotional after the game like when they were interviewing him after this upset like he was he was in tears he was so happy that was Northern Illinois or at least his like first win over a top 10 ranked program on the road so like you know huge win for the Northern Illinois program big day for the Mac in general like the Mac had a lot of teams on the ropes like I was talking about Penn State struggling earlier that was against um Bowling Green so like you know big day for the Mac we love to see it but honestly I'm of all the things you said I can agree with but I think the one thing I'm going to push back on is this game to me was not on Marcus Freeman because the defense played well the defense only allowed 16 points Mike Den Brock what are you doing brother because the thing about Riley Leonard I like Riley Leonard as a player I was you know a little more open to the idea of him potentially being a first round quarterback perhaps than you but the thing about Riley Leonard that makes him special is his legs the things that makes Riley Leonard special is the fact that he's a dual threat quarterback who can throw it because he opens up the field with his legs they weren't running Riley Leonard they weren't using their run game at all they were asking Riley Leonard to basically dve back and be like a Lincoln Riley type quarterback or something like that you don't have the athletes in Notre Dame to do that even though they are improved you don't have the guys to do that and more importantly RI Leonard is not the guy to do that with so like you just set your quarterback up for failure and you got caught doing it and like I understand Mike you know Marcus Freeman should have some authority over J Brock to say what the hell are you doing in this matter and so maybe a little bit on marus Freeman but that game game plan from Den Brock is what really stood out to me I was just like this doesn't make any sense as to what you're trying to do here and you like you paid the price for it and like now like you know we talked after last week beating Texas A&M was a huge a huge moment for their schedule because their schedule set up so advantageously and you just completely erased any margin for error with this loss like you have zero margin for error now and on top of that with that margin of error gone you also like now just look like a worse team and there's many more questions about this team than we had going last week so like yeah it's hard to look at Notre Dam and take them seriously at this point I mean could Northern Illinois win the group of five I'm not rolling that out they've got the best win right now they're going to probably be ranked uh starting next week they're two and0 they look pretty good I mean I'm not they're two and 0 right yes please be two and 0 yeah they're two and0 I do believe okay thank God thinkk that would be that would be stupid but uh you know I think it's hilarious I think it's like uh the Marshall game and then the Stanford I think U those are both at home for uh NRE Dame so there's nothing like having NBC there and they're interviewing like somebody else's coach on a neame telecast dude like it is I think the funniest thing in the world was at least for me as a Cowboys fan which uh you know can't wait for another Cowboy season that's going to go great for 18 weeks and then just end horribly for me I looking so forward to it but um watching Jason Garrett just like tear Notre Dame to shreds like that tells you everything you need to know if Jason Garrett can see obvious flaws with what you're doing coaching wise like that's a problem because Jason Garrett has plenty of flaws himself I watched them firsthand he's not a good head coach and so like seeing that be like and like me not really having an argument no push back against Jason Garrett that's that's not great for you Notre Dame like and this was like this is becoming very a typical for Notre Dame Under Marcus Freeman which is where the blame can come on Marcus Freeman you've got to have your team prepared particularly if you're going to remain independent you've got to have them prepared 12 weeks out of the year that's just point blank period you have to have them prepared and to see them consistently go up against in your competition because like you know again hats off to Northern Illinois but there's no world where Northern Illinois should win this game when you look at the X's and O's and the talent on paper there's no way they should even be in this game and the fact that you're losing to these teams you're losing to a marshall team that was bad that year he was into a Stanford team that was the Pack 12 B like in the seller of the Pack 12 last year that's that's indicative of coaching that's not indicative of the talent you're bringing in because that Talent is there we've seen it go to the NFL constantly over the past few years but like it's I mean it is a coaching thing when you get down to it that way absolutely yeah I mean like I had Dame being like okay maybe they're like in the same grip of like Georgia Ohio State Oregon and Texas were like oh I think they can win the national championship it might be all miss that may they take their spot now at this point it's again it's like week two we're still trying to figure this out so it was Jason Garrett in the booth was it Jack cworth calling the game too or of course the nepotism runs strong baby so he was in Brazil and he flew back to call this game and his all the mod they lost God what a time to be alive I mean you know I hope you enjoyed Brazil um hope Jordan love gets better you know we're hoping Jordan love is healthy I guess but yeah what a NBC Sports coverage like they're all over the place like they've got to go to uh they're in Detroit tomorrow is that right or in there in LA it's Rams Lions I just don't remember where the game is I don't know we should ask all the people who left the big house where they're guy oh my God that's the hardest you've laugh for this show to date I mean that was great dude oh my God but I mean yeah Notre Dame Riley like I think like just circling back to the main points like Riley lonard had already heard his draft stock he did not look good last week against Texas Sanam they won and like he made some plays down the stretch with his legs you know as I've already mentioned but like yeah even if Notre Dame were to sneak into the playoff because the other takeaway I kind of have from this week is there aren't a lot of great teams in college football this year there's a few there are for sure but if we're feeling out a 12 team playoff field there's going to be some like teams that are above average above good like very good but not great that make it into this field and maybe Notre Dame can fill in that Niche maybe they can write the [ __ ] from this point 11 and one Notre Dame with wins that that would come along with that they're going to make the playoffs so like I'm not riding Notre Dame off as a playoff team but after what I saw today I am riding them off as we talked a few weeks ago about you know can Notre Dame win a playoff game maybe it was last week I don't know times's a flat circle I'm so out of my like we it's a long day but um I like they're not winning a playoff game there's no way like I can trust this coaching a quarterback who is clearly Limited in what he is capable of doing even if I do think he is a a unique and very good talented player I just think that when you get to the playoff it's a different level it's me going circling back again it's what we saw with Michigan and Texas today there are levels to this stuff and Notre Dame is not on the right level to do that yeah they'd lose a playoff game at home like they'd lose the 710 to missou like that's feels like pretty likely here you brought up a great point there so you know you got that huge win over A&M you thinking like oh we can go 12 and0 by losing to Northern Illinois it's like drops you down to 10 and two like that loss counts double so basically you have no margin Affair you can't lose because you need to go to 11 and one to and hope that NIU you know gets goes like N9 and three or better and and Mac Mac player to get there but um you know I was thinking about this with Riley Leonard like I hated his body language uh during the A&M game it's not like Kyler Murray pouting but it just kind of looked like I'm not taking any accountability it just kind of looked like kind of just look like a Nag on the sidelines I'm like do I want that quarterbacking my team in the in New York like I do do just want to draft that I don't think so maybe he I don't know if he's got any more eligibility but um I guess you bring up another good point there like you know there's gonna be teams who make the playoff that maybe that aren't that good including these Alabama, Utah Leave Us Perplexed two teams which I think we got a punt on we really have no idea what Alabama or Utah are about we think they're good but at this point it's like Alabama struggled with USF for the bulk of the game then they blew B the barn doors off you know at tus loo in the fourth quarter Utah looked awesome versus Baylor then cam ryzen got hurt and then they became they completely fell apart hellacious ass to bring back another another phrase like they were up I think like 23 to three and or 23 to5 or 23 to six or something like that and then cam Rising got hurt and they didn't score another point the rest of the game like and like let's be clear like cam Rising you know his x-rays on it was in it was a hand injury and x-rays on the hand came back negative so like it's not a broken hand it's not going to be longterm he may miss next week against Utah against Utah State not particularly worried about that for Utah because Utah State's not very good so like that's not a game I'm worried about if they don't have Cam Rising for it but like after the 20 years of of college football that we've seen cam Rising play at this point he's a little fragile like we've seen him get hurt quite often in his career but like not even like disregarding the ACL injury I'm not even talking about that he's been banged up quite a bit because of the style he plays he plays a hard-nosed running style of football so he's been hurt pretty frequently and I think this year more so than a lot of years that we've seen that like we've seen this Utah team they're worse a quarterback than they have been before behind cam Rising so if that if something were to happen it's just going to be it's gonna be a problem oh for sure I mean cam Rising is about as old as my car yeah the 98 the 98 Grand chair K the r is still out there running I guess and uh yeah C Rising is a little little brittle out there so this came in the part of the day when I left my apartment to go to Boar's place and U I come by I'm like oh yeah I'm like oh yeah Utah looks hella good this is what we're going to talk about and I get there and I'm like okay it's kind of falling apart here and then I look over there cam risings over there are the sidelines in Regular People clothes I'm like he te is ACL again is that thing they had like a popsicle stick what's going on here is this the eing Rose Bowl again and I'm like okay I dquan Finn and Baylor and Dave Randa that just looks cooked I mean Utah's defense is fantastic Morgan scall has got that side of the ball humming Andy lwood couldn't do much of anything once Rising went out and they go to the I forget exactly there was Brock hu Jason B game I forget he was on the sidelines it might have been might have been Allison Williams know I think about it or something like that she's asking Kyle Kyle Whittingham after the game how it's going on there and he's got the pincher he's back here he's like oh my God I just want to retire my quarterback is falling apart I just want to make the playoff so I can go to sleep I'm not the most injury-prone person on this sideline it's my quarterback damn it oh God but no like it it like I do want to talk about the bayor part of this real quick like hey I'm mad at David Randa for wasting dquan Finn I loved watching dquan fan at Toledo he was the only reason I watched Toledo because we sure as hell no it wasn't Jason candle so like I really enjoyed Quan Finn and like he looks impotent in this offense like it's terrible and it like that roster top to bottom looks like it is completely out on what whatever dve Randa is selling but you go back to the Utah side of things like they are another team that is going to have a high floor because of what that defense is capable of that defense is very good that defense has improved from last year as well too like I thought the defense was weaker than we're used to seeing from the youths last year not the case this year that defense is legitimate and but again much like with Michigan if you don't if you have either a compromised or not at all cam Rising on the field I don't know what this offense is capable of and frankly I don't think it's a lot so like it does it does create a little bit of a power vacuum in the Big 12 the crazy part about that is I'm not sure who's ready to fill that power back vacuum especially after what we saw today in the Big 12 no Oka State almost lost Kansas state is looking pretty pedestrian with ay Johnson a quarterback can lost West Virginia's already lost Arizona's uh they may pull away with it but they're not playing particularly great right now they can't play defense Arizona so no I'm trying to think who who would it honestly be I state with Rocko probably yeah honestly it may be because like you know in the shawk game elasco our one of you know one of our personal phase like it was that was an impressive game from Roco Beck an impress an impressive game from the Iowa State Defense which it's a weird thing to say when you're playing the Iowa offense but the Iowa offense has looked good they looked good for six quarters and then the Iowa State defense turned up the heat and Kade mnam looked like the Iowa offense of old so like really impressive effort from Iowa State it they you know I think we kind of pegged them as like a Definitely Maybe team like a Darkhorse team in the Big 12 they look like they could be emerging as the favorites if things go right like Utah is still clearly the favorite for right now but again I think today showed us just how how fragile that is for for Utah whereas I don't think it's quite as fragile for some of these other teams yeah I mean we know Iowa State's got a very high floor but if Roco can raise that ceiling again with the fragility we see there with Utah with blackm smoke cam Rising just shooting aditions out into the sky yeah I guess I had like a thought about uh Baylor and we could probably talk about Alabama to finish the show up today uh yeah I why is why is dquan Finn not playing at Michigan like what why why didn't Michigan pursue Dante Moore Jordan McLoud or dquan finan I don't understand this at all it doesn't make any sense I someone was bringing up a quote today because I was looking up um I was looking for Chiron Moore press conference quotes for a pro for a post that we got up on fid.com and some people were bringing up a quote from after um or before spring practice excuse me and Chiron Moore basically said he was confident in his quarterback room so whether that was I mean there's two there's two answers to that one he was lying which we've seen a lot of head coaches do you know fair enough and like with the sanctions coming with the sanctions probably coming from Michigan maybe that was a hindrance in the trer portal and so he had to lie like you're kind of forc your hand is a little forced there maybe that's the case the other case is even worse for Michigan which is the case that shiron morch doesn't know what hell's doing because I think that's entirely possible at this point because you look at Jim Harbaugh and yes Jim Harbaugh by the end of his Michigan tenure was a CEO type like he wasn't you know an ex as an O's guy but the one thing I did always trust Jim Harbaugh to do was to develop and Coach quarterbacks and if that's just not a part of what Chiron Moore has ever had to do that's a problem that's a big problem for Michigan moving forward because when we've seen Michigan Elevate it's been because they've had a quarterback who could Elevate now they didn't have to ask JJ McCarthy to do a whole bunch but when they did ask him to do stuff he was more than capable and like that's kind of the difference of what I'm seeing right now with Michigan is like there's a chance that Chiron MO might be a little over his skis in this position yeah I they're looking this up I always get confused what his all mo is so he he played juko and then eventually he went to Oklahoma and he played guard so he played for like Bob stop so again it's kind of like okay is he like the is he like the uh the Andy Reid the uh the Jim Cheney uh type of okay I see the whole field I can call plays and do a pretty good job doing that Maybe not maybe he just likes to run the football maybe he's just Arthur Smith oh God oh God why would you put that evil on an arper I don't know man it's Lions football season right now man and uh go Tigers I suppose or maybe the Red Wings will be better than this that's a you know it's it's a low bar at this point I know man it's a low bar and um I the Alabama did clear the low bar by beating USF um again this is the ultimate pun here I really have no idea what kayin deor is doing here I think we think Alex GES is a good head coach he's got very he's got a talent disadvantage there at uh South Florida we think that like if he gets a bigger job he'll be really good but to hang in Alabama these last two years they got play one more time in 26 because like it's a it's a two in one so yeah good job Greg brenford doing that bud yeah I mean so I had two thoughts coming away with Alabama one of them positive one of them not so positive the one thing the one positive I'll start you know I'll keep I'll keep the vibe at least semi high for I would say the first three quarters of this game it very much seemed as if Alabama was trying stuff not necessarily throwing the we need to win game plan at at USF it seemed like okay we're gonna you know let Jaylen milro throw the ball a little bit we're gonna let Jaylen milro not you like we're gonna basically M ask him to not use his legs quite as often as we would in like a big game a big moment late in that game they just pounded The Rock and ran all over and that's how they pulled away so like I do think there is kind of some of that at play the thing that did worry me is if I had concern I had some concerns about the turnover on this Alabama defense I've you know voiced them pretty heavily throughout this one of my big concerns was the Youth of the secondary now USF didn't take advantage of that because Byron Brown for talented as he is is still not developed as a passer he's a fantastic dual threat player but he's still not developed as a passer I did not have those concerns about the front seven with the linebackers in the defensive line and USF ran the ball all over them for three quarters and part of that is definitely Al GES like we we think very highly of him as an offensive mind but part of that is Alabama just not being able to stop it and if you're not able to stop it against usf's offensive line against USF skill position players and I understand Byron Brown is a you know he's kind of an X Factor in that but even still that's a worry that's a big problem because when you go up against the Georgia in it's three weeks I think if I'm not mistaken um two or three weeks so it's yeah Georgia it's like week week four maybe yeah that might be okay yeah no so it's week it's week five because what it is is uh Alabama plays Wisconsin at Camp Randle next week which is GNA be an interesting game I G have my you know in terms of games next week in in a light slate interested to see what happens there then Alabama has a buy then they play Georgia so it's week five regardless when they play a team like Georgia who is going who has a dominant offensive line if you can get into that front sevens grill and push them around a little bit Alabama's not going to have answers and then you're also going to put that young secondary even into even more un advv positions against better receivers and a quarterback who can make those thirds and Carson Beck so like I have I have a lot of questions about Alabama and like I think it's we're smart to punt on them right now just because like there's enough Talent there that we can't rule them out like and I think they they showed that at the end of the USF game but the first three quarters of it it's not just o vanilla game plan you know R it off completely because the defensive side of the ball it may have been a little vanilla but they also had a lot of trouble containing a USF offense that frankly should not be able to compete with them totally agree uh I think my big thought just thinking about this so they have four coordinators they got a lot of cooks in the kitchen right now with ran grub just going back to Seattle to be on Mike McDonald staff there with the Seahawks that put kayin deor in a tough spot it's like okay my my guy my play caller is gone so he gets Nick Sheridan who did not do a good job calling plays in Indiana and he's more of a tight ends coach and then Jamarcus Shepard's kind of more the receivers coach and kind of like recruiter and everything well now they're both Co and neither of them are quarterback Whispers so they're trying to figure that out we saw last week with Alabama really doing a great job there with uh um you know Mari linguis and Kane wak you know former like G5 head coaches but again it's like who who do you look to to like fix it when there's a problem it's gon to take a longer time to get going you look at Georgia for example if the de isn't figured it out cir just tells Glen schan to figure it out the offense is working he just tells Mike Boba to figure it out just having like a quicker to be able to you can you can fail faster and fix your problem much quicker when you have too many moving pieces there and too much um it just I feel like create some sort of communication breakdown and uh but I will say there one thing that I really liked about Alabama was like they just leaned on Justice Haynes and uh Jay no on the Bal and they broke uh usf's will that'll work against pretty much everybody but they play but like if you're playing somebody like Miss were better I don't know yeah no 100% like when you get to the top third probably of the SEC like that's when the questions are really there for me I think that their talent is going to win out in most of their games but when you get to the upper e Line when you talk about playoff Contender when you talk about winning the games that you need to get into the 12 team playoff that's where I still have some questions again we're not ready to write them off like this isn't a you know dogging Alabama segment like we're we're just we have some questions and I think Wisconsin next week and a tough place to play like Camp Randle is a good place to answer some of those questions absolutely and uh we still have more questions than we have answers here in the early part of the college football season again we're basically in the early hours of the morning here on the east coast and uh good old 1010 10 TI in 10 in uh mountain time right now but uh yeah this was H three yards in the cloud of Punt here we went Marty Ball with run run pass punt um so yeah we're gonna be doing episode 107 on Monday um it's gonna be ber birthday week yeah I'm gonna be old enough to run for president on Wednesday on shout out 911 day so um my V on Monday we're gonna be doing a graphic design is my passion and then um we're going to be doing um Queens of the Stone Age just like noan on Thursday and um I think we've kind of got it figured out where we're going to be going for um Antonio um let's just say he's goingon to be going back to the state that uh we ended uh last year that's right baby that's right uh he's he's gonna watch the gy see where sloth is man sloth love
